I use Bolter consistently on T5 Auric and win also quite consistently (if I am not actively running it down)
There are easier to use weapons such as Plasma, Revolver that overlap a lot of what Bolter can do. I would recommend those. That said, Bolter is perfectly viable at any level. You might want Deadshot + Suppression Immunity with it though unless you are already very comfortable with the handling.

As is Veteran can do hybrid stuff the best out of all the main stuff, Ogryn and psyker get locked out of certain talents if they don’t go middle tree, and each branch of the top part of the zealot tree has 4 points you have to invest to get the next main skill
There’s a reason why every veteran build can so easily afford to take demo stockpile and the skill for cooldown reduction on elite kill in pretty much every build
You can do something like krak grenade, ammo regen aura, and infiltrate while picking out skills in between without thinking as veteran, while zealot for example can’t do that, I know from playing a knife zealot without the throwing knives
