#Dry spots on the puck

Hey everyone, I've got a Silvia that seems to produce pucks with dry spots at the periphery. I use a VST basket (rated for 15g and dosed to 15g as well) with bottom paper and a top paper + puck screen; shower screen is stock.

At the end of the shot, I see a couple of spots where the bottom is nearly dry.

Troubleshooting steps:
I checked flow through the screen and it seems to be fairly even.
The machine is placed mostly even on the table as well.
Tried a backflush, but did not seem to help.
Added a top paper under the puck screen to aid distribution, but did not help.

I use the same grind as I do with my Flair 58 with the same basket. Puck prep is manual WDT followed by a tamp with the Normcore leveling tamper.

On the flair, I never had dry spots. I also use a profile with a short dwell between the soak and percolation phase which I would imagine helps with full saturation. Any other suggestions on what I can do to fix this issue?

Only thing I have yet to try is a flat 6 bar prodile to rule out any weirdness with how I've programmed the soak.

Is it maybe just looking dry due to the solenoid? And have you tried the same setup on the flair (paper sandwich + puckscreen)

Ah, should've added - these spots are on the bottom of the puck.

Havent tried a filter sandwich on the flair yet, mostly because I didn't feel the need.

Could try cutting into it to see if it’s actually a dry spot. Might just be because of the solenoid pulling the water out.

Can you measure your flow rate grams in 30 seconds?
