Today I did Amulet's recipe on the O1 with Ondo's Strawberry coffee. I did a 1:17. The flat bottom melded the flavors more and supressed the funky backend taste that V60 can give with heavier processed coffees but the 1:17 gave me a bit more separation in flavors

That's what I do. The mindset I subscribe to regarding PO geometry is: Flat bottom drippers are good for harmonizing and melding flavors hence great for coffees that have very tropical, more developed, or heavily processed. Conical is good for clarity and separating flavors in turn making them excel with coffees that are washed, aromatic, or roasted on the lighter end

Doubt they are using “artificial” flavors but more likely naturally derived flavor additives or concentrates. Gonna be hard for even tests to know the difference if the compound is naturally occurring. Outrage about lack of transparency is justified, though. But solution is same as always: buy from trusted sources. I wouldn’t put it on regulators to figure out (cuz they won’t ultimately).

@fiery crypt just tried four pours of 60g on the O1 with the same Ondo Strawbery coffee had this morning using Amulet's recipe. I got much more body and less present acidity in this cup. The texture is noticeably thicker hot and more so when cooled. Acidity is playing second fiddle or background notes hot and as it cools. Amulet's recipe is not as thick (I stretched the ratio from a 1:15 to a 1:17 because I don't enjoy high TDS filter brews so that could be the culprit onto why I found the texture to be lesser with this recipe) however acidity is front and center. It's juicy and salivating. I find the cup with Amulet's recipe lingers more between sips.

So it depends on what you want and are looking for! Both are good!

I think Perc roasts too dark. I also think both Reddit and EAF discord have their own ebb and flow of roasters that are dominating their respective zeitgeist. After maturing in this hobby I think EAF tends to recommend better but also more expensive roasters. I find EAF goes for the ultra light and aromatic focused roasters while Reddit just wants flavor punch which is why Dak's milky cake, Perc's latest ethiopian, and B&W The Future is often omnipresent.

I find the pure excitement and energy that Momo shows when I come home absolutely lovely and heartwarming. It was a large factor on why I wanted to get a dog over a cat. I wanted to be welcomed with love and excitement and happiness no matter what happened that day. To this day, no matter what happens, I still smile and get giddy with anticipation of Momo being all excited and happy that I'm home.

That being Driftaway, Isle, Passenger, Tandem, or potentially Ondo if he ever sells larger bags (please @cedar otter !). Majority of people here are light roast drinkers on all style of coffees buuuuuuuuuut last I checked MadLab had some Santa Monica Colombian coferments.

I don’t like anything from Santa Monica’s farm quite frankly. I don’t like how he coferments almost all of his harvest. I think it’s a way to cash in on the crazy flavor hype while also turning over poorly grown product. S&W had his beans as a washed process for a bit (maybe they still do). I found it to be not good. Furthering my suspicions that he’s cofermenting to cover up a poor seasons yield.

Absolutely loved the Z2 with red speed CVS they were great, slightly difference in the silver knight but only had two brews for comparison.

Probably gonna end up grabbing one this year, ordering this month will get you a July order according to their team.

Didn’t mention it yesterday but timemores espresso machine was fun to use and solid build quality for 1.5-2k price point. The coffee was ok for the shot but the shot was nice and had texture. Comes with a lay flat portafilter and HE basket with purchase. Very boxy looking but all black set up was nice.

Wendougee’s booth was a complete let down and clearly didn’t care to show the machine. Sounded like they were reading a Que card and didn’t know what it meant despite being who they were talking about. Didn’t even bother to pull a shot for people or discuss the pairing grinder.

And the very end of the hall there’s a hand grinder company called molomill that just launched a kickstarter and it was fun to use. Pietro competitor with similar build, was so much more pleasing to crank than the pietro but needs a lot of work and some people to join their team cough cough @desert stirrup cough cough that could maybe give good insights into things

it's really hard for the RPM to go too high. there's only so many Rajas Per Minute which the taco trucks can pump out.

highly recommend sey house. think of it as very similar to the first LA meetup but a bit more spread out and more people

also didn't realize 01's circuitry is such that it does a high rpm purge automatically upon clicking the knocker. twas pretty neat
