Artesia
aw hard maybe for me š
I thought he got hard cancelled. Cool to see him still going
Yo somebody buy my fellow Aiden, tally, or J ultra!
Iām thinking of selling the ZP6 too
Iām just wondering if that would be useful to have for camping purposes
Donāt think the Pietro will do well in that scenario
i still haven't made it to any ondo since i'm stuck in my westside bubble
Did he? No idea my friend got the tickets
I ended up selling my zp6 fwiw.it felt like a waste of a grinder only using it for two months out of the year. Iād probably sell them all and get something like a q air or k6 on the cheaper side.
But to confirm your suspicion, I also would not camp with a Pietro.
I daily my zp6 but also use it for camping
The oasis is dayglow
so true, love it over there
Depends how you're camping. As long as you have a table though.
there's 5 coffee shops on my street, they're all coal š
I'm so glad for dayglow. They bring good foreign roasters too
Aw let it out
we gotta know
My main problem with Dayglow is that they generally mark up imported beans to a point that itās not really worth while for me.
I havenāt been there to order a drink in a long time now though.
this and
many more....
I'm still yet to go to dayglow but have heard that the warhol drink is good
Vs Dak it was comparable, like a couple bucks. Idk about Canadian beans though
I think they have an exclusive contract with Dak for the area or something of the like? If they were able to negotiate that in they probably got a good rate.
I mean as a whole, theyāre priced higher. But Iām sure thereās exceptions
I also dismissed them pre tariff so admittedly the world has changed a lot
last time i went to dayglow the barista was very clearly high and barely functional š was also like 3 years ago thou
havent been back since
coffee was fine though it was a weird experience to say the least
I was thinking of getting a zp6
Who's not high in socal tbf?
Will be sending a pm.
the servers at one of my favorite (rather expensive) restaurants near here were ALWAYS high
food was great, but they closed recently. coincidence surely
Yeah didnāt he get called out for the domestic violence joke and that overly sexual ad?
Iām aim to not be online too much so my awareness is limited at best
I could be hella late to all the Mat Rife news
Those 1ZPresso air or whatever they call their plastic body model might be ideal
I feel like for camping it will always be mid at best
So no point in having a good grinder
I also would most likely use a French press while camping anyway
Camping V60 might be cumbersome
Qair is the one youāre thinking of. Itās light and also conveniently fits inside an aeropress(which you can use the extra money from the zp6 to buy for camping)
DM incoming!
put a coffee shop where parking isnāt an issue š
Having the adjustment known inside is annoying. Thatās my gripe about the commandante. I wanted to try out the zp6 for soup
Ondo Artesa had a lot of spots when I was there. Getting in and out was a little annoying though.
The Hollywood location usually has parking too
The servers at Saffyās are always on Jupiter when I go š. Super pleasant though
yeah high workers isnt a surprise but it was a solo shift and they were going super slow bc high š
Iāll probably head down this Saturday, I need some beans
I wish there were more accessible options on the west side. We like to take the kiddo to the beach and parking is so meh out there that I end up going to whateverās walkable from Redondo etc. which is usually pretty meh.
should go glamping
bring your Zerno
LOL.
That's what I did š
ah yes.
espresso in the woods
featuring Decent de1 and a zerno
no mid coffee here.
I mean, the de1 has a carrying case for a reason
I donāt think you guys know what camping is
If you arenāt tracking your equipment weight by the ounce gtfo
Iām risking my life or Iām not camping at all
I was kidding of course. The suggestion for the qair was more serious
Although i have been morbidly curious about the whirly.
Just wish there were more legit reviews for it out there
risk ur life for some good espresso by bringing a 1000kwh battery, decent, and zerno?
If Iām car camping Iām bringing a whole set up. Thatās the whole fun of car camping.
If I were actually backpacking I would bring instant and call it a day.
i got an OutIn Nano and was using it until some seal internally exploded and water started coming out the charge port.
up until then, it worked great
If I didnāt already have a robot I would go that route. Super convenient
i liked that it heated the water for me. was also thinking of a Picopresso (or a Pixapresso w/ heating), but didn't try those yet.
paired great with a K-Ultra Plus hand grinder.
I was just convinced into getting a day pack which is overkill for our usual out and back hikes.
But now I'm thinking I'm going to bring a canister, burner, and stuff to brew coffee on hikes š
OutIn support was also really nice, and immediately sent me a replacement.
Yikes. Pretty new isnāt it?
Glad theyāre replacing it.
yeah, they replaced it immediately (while i was still away).
Just gave it a test run and it works great. and i got to pick a new color š
25L daypack the perfect size for overpacking or underpacking tbh
Bripe time???
Bripe would be a lot easier. But I'm thinking bigger. Possibly pour over
Itās the kettle that kills space for camping/daypack. I canāt find anything small, durable, and pours slowly for a v60.
I couldnāt endure the endless ridicule of friends mocking me using a bribe around the campfire.
Just fill a camelbak with Japanese iced.
Hario Air?
I think mine is 25L? Not sure, I got it used
The problem is then you still need a heating vessel like a pot. I need a SS hario air. That would be amazing actually
I wonder how well something like this would work. https://a.co/d/5n5cDag
I have a titanium pot. It fits a burner and canister inside
Something like I linked above would be a lot better with usb c and a lithium ion battery. I suppose that would cost a lot more though
main reason i didn't get that, along with Picopresso is space. even the silicone kettles which collapse flat were just one more thing.
seemed more compact to just have K-Ultra + OutIn Nano w/ larger basket add-on
For sure. I agree with that assessment. When traveling I usually just rely on the hotel having a kettle handy for me. Doesnāt help much for camping though.
i guess also the "benefit" of both OutIn Nano and Wacaco Pixapresso is they both heat water themselves, and can take Nespresso pods too.. so that would be even more compact.
the one bean I got from dayglow I remember was 6 weeks old and thus on discount so I think cheaper than from the roaster but uhhh
I have a tendency of forgetting to charge things so I try to avoid battery reliant devices when camping.
two years ago lel
any suggestions on how to keep crab somewhat fresh for transport
when we got a bunch fresh, we just put it in a cooler with ice, and it was fine for a 30 min to 1 hr drive
it's just jaundice
I'll be crabbing/fishing at 5am, return 5pm, flight out at 9pm, arrive 10pm
maybe just kill and ice?
idk if I can keep em alive for 24hours
I mean worst case scenario they just eventually die and you put them on ice.
yeah but I dont think the meat is as good
i think it's better to keep them alive / on ice for as long as you can..
yeah.. true.
maybe just go fishing, then stop off at a market to pick up crab ?
Iām vegetarian so Iām out of my depth here.
i don't have a lot of experience keeping them for that long
hell nah, imma have massive dungeness
somewhat sadistic thing but we have soy sauce crab in korean culture
and I didnt know but the crab is drowned in the marinade pretty much
so I had a heart attack when I opened the fridge at 3am and the crab was hitting the tupperware
omg. poor thing.
it was 100% alive for like 6-7hrs in soy sauce
but also I heard dungeness perish super easily
so idk, I probably need to ask a crab expert
I dont want em suffocating or anything
but also the korean soy sauce one is blue crab and theyre usually invasive as hell
interesting. Gemini Pro suggested that you cook it before flying.
(to stop the blah blah from degrading)
Googled it and I guess the keeping them alive in the marinade helps with texture and flavor. Totally fucked up though.
I think outdoor boys cooks them first before flying
here's what it suggested:
https://gemini.google.com/share/10cda6cebedc
it even lists a timeline, wow.
I think youāre supposed to kill em before you dunk in soy sauce
Yeah that's kinda what I was seeing for Ganjang-gejang
But also I only learned of this food 5 minutes ago
u know what, this might have been the case š
my mom was just freaked out as hell handling crab
that was the one and only time we made it here in LA
Youāre also supposed to cut them in half
Except the top
So the exposed bodyparts can absorb the marinade via osmosis
also just checked with fishmonger friend and it should be ok to transport even without ice
but pretty much just boil when I arrive in LA
nice ! hope you catch a bunch
Maybe declare it incorrectly and CBP will kill it for you
Fresh crab goes crazy
Getting some es-chocolat from Momos soon btw @eternal birch
when
I'm down to about 300g of spro and 400g of po beans
What blends?
Blends are great
Ondo sub wen
sheesh. Did they fix it? And how's the coffee out of it, if you have the non-pressurized basket?
Busan, Es-chocolat, Fruity bonbon, mucho berry, and seasonal autumn blend
i'm good on that. That's why car camping is ftmfw. Bring much of the comfort of home on the road.
I love momos SO but for some reason I never get any tasting notes
Other than super generic stuff like fruity, floral, citrus, tea-like
Like I can never get anything specific. Even w the bag in front of me I'm getting like 1 note max
Diff water
Korea is blessed with too good water
They usually have brita filters to add more minerals to their tap
Because tap water is like 25ppm

Quat
after taking down the batch number and some vids, they apologized, indicated it might have been part of a bad batch, and sent out a replacement.
I wanted to fix that unit too, but didn't feel comfortable flying with it (I was overseas).. so my friend just e-recycled it.
coffee from it is superb, imo. (for what it is) the larger 18g espresso basket does have only 1 hole at the bottom, so I'm not sure it's pressurized..
Busan and the mucho berry are fire. I do a 50/50 blend of that every now and then.
great that they fixed it. Influencers online talk about using dark roasts because it brews so cold, has that been your experience as well?
ive steamed crabs beforehand and packed with ice on flights from LA to ATL before..
mine stopped heating water before it completely broke, so i ended up using a kettle for a bit, but when i did, even with mediums i really enjoyed the lower temps (prob around 90 to 88 C, or below). i did not have any light roasts to try.
one med peruvian decaf did taste a bit grassy, but i think that might just be this bean.
i think that the Wacaco Pixapresso which has more variation on temps might actually be a bit better.. of course itās a giant company, vs OutIn which is a recent startup with 50 to 100 people.. and i kinda like supporting small businesses, so iāll stick with it and see how it goes.
Now weāre talking
Let me fight forest fires, disappoint Smokey, AND enjoy a damn fine shot all at the same time
Whatās the thermal loss like when using the kettle? If you can up the temp with that method you donāt really lose much.
Since the others require a kettle anyway
thermal loss: didnāt seem like much..
OutIn has a ādouble tapā mode where it brews immediately, so that turned out perfectly when i used the correct temp water from the kettle..
In other news I think I just fixed my magnetic switch keyboard via clumsy. The usb cable caught on my bike handlebar when I was bringing it out to the garage and it fell on the concrete floor. Decided to connect it again and itās now fine. Even though it was having the same issue a few minutes before š¤¦āāļø
So uhhh⦠I donāt know.
The Nurses striking have a DJ and hella loud speakers. Itās pretty wild. Half annoyed half envious.
Club KP
which campus ?
For San Diego theyāre at San Marcos today. They rotate between San Marcos, Zion, and San Diego medical Center.
Yo @cedar otter
New coffee shop for sale
See posts, photos and more on Facebook.
lmao I know where this is
it's too close to where we're at and it's such a shitty location
It's Melrose and Western
Wack but understandable
Iāll continue to be on the lookout
There is a cold stone for sale
$80k
may need to look for a new apartment
ours got bought out
and our renewal is coming up in 2.5mo
guessing theyre gonna jack it up like crazy
I thought there was a law against this
Like 2.5% max a year
Or is it only with current landlord and not new landlord?
Naw youāre gonna get hit with 8% if youāre in LA
idk how miserable east hollywood ish to torrance would be commute wise
Definitely miserable.
dang
Would not
DTLA to Torrance is super nice rn :/
If it's not a SFH you should have rent control. So 5% max + up to 5% depending on current inflation
You currently make this commute in the morning? That's the opposite of traffic so I'm not too surprised
Next week, try checking the time on Google maps for prospective commute times. Do it for a few days.
You could do it today (Torrance to East Hollywood) but I find Fridays are normally lighter
The boba shop a three minute walk from my house just left that plaza. Itās a get IE opportunity for you.
My spending alone would pay your lease.
EH sucks bc thereās mad traffic on the 101 all day
Alhambra-ish would be nice too
altadena is crying in no coffee

the tierra mia in pasadena finally opened
not that i would ever go there š
Alhambra hm
https://documentcentre.ey.com/#/detail-engmt?eid=667
ssense owes 36k to fellow
I personally like it but my fiancee doesnt because its "too chinese"
azusa is super nice
bro my work is in torrance
Thereās plenty of cafes there
Just not good ones
Highlight is decent
damn I'm looking at housing and its grim
I kinda want like a townhouse or something so I can fix my car and not pay $300 a month for parking
renting grim, dont think we will be buying down here
idk I'm kinda spoiled with current apartment so its hard looking for anything lower
thinking about like... san pedro maybe
i downgraded from a house to a hotel room overnight
u adapt quickly
Artesia
strong contender tbh
maybe even like buena park
but then I'll just be another korean in buena park
cerritos is like a 25-30min commute and its also not bad to pomona which is fiancee's school commute
This really depends on what part of Pedro š¬
Townhouses count as SFH and lose rent protection, just fyi
damn
Our landlord has been cool but theoretically they could abuse that
that's little korea outside of ktown lol
yeah didnt bp get officially called little korea
not shocked to hear that lol
sick
Not for anything where you will feel good about buying
Thereās no where to build in LA, and if there is it will be apartments
When we were looking only like 10 homes in the last 3 years fit our criteria.
my reqs were nonexistant but also im single w no rlshp so its easier š
even then i had it hard finding a place
also when I was at paper son last wknd this guy was talking crazy how the la coffee scene is ass and the bays is so much better
I used to think this too
ondo the glue holding LA coffee together
What happened to highlight coffee
highlight the only one
and parking is ass
only been twice and i had a hard time finding parking and even went during off hours smh
I found parking fine. But both times I went at like 8am...
But this is a long time ago
I feel like OC/LB coffee enjoyers are finally finding out about ondo artesia
Weāve been having random groups of dudes who come in order 4 coffees and buy a bunch of bags this week lol
I sent a couple groups inquiring about our old partner cafes to Artesia. Probably didnāt amount to much though. But Iād rather they go to you than most of the others.
Thanks for doing that!
Trying to grow the roasting side now and take on wholesale little by little but thereās hardly any resources on how to do that lol
I donāt know man. Most of the cafes and popups I had were word of mouth tbh.
I attempted giving our samples and courting a few places but nothing really panned out when I initiated. I gave away so much coffee for no reason
Iām speaking more so of
How to price things
And etc
Cashflow strategies
Like the business side of coffee roastery
Iām only doing it with people I have prior relationships or who have been my cafe customers
I had a spreadsheet that accounted for green pricing, shrinkage, batch roasting time, batch size, and packaging.
Same
Itās almost exactly the same order
I also had separate entries for the bullet and the Yoshan as well as coroast costs to see what was more effective for orders
The annoying thing was trying to compete with established roasters like klatch in the area on price. I had to pay myself like nothing to match that without sacrificing quality further.
We really canāt do that
I know.
Thatās why I just buy more expensive greens and microlots that the big guys canāt touch
Klatch did work out in my favor a few times though. I got a tasty watermelon coforment that they hired Hacea to import for them before the additional quantities were listed by schmoozing with the brothers there during local pickups.
Tbh I thought it was a little weird they used Hacea at their size.
But eh, it was a fun green.
They prolly saw Haceaās offering and saw oh cool lemme pick up some coferms and mess around
Gonna carry more inhouse roasted co-ferments
My āprocessedā retail shelf is cleared out
is it tho?
Canāt wait to impress my normie friends with this one trick
I just found infinite money glitch
Made a coferment blend with majority washed Ethiopia
It tastes just like coferment

But I save a lot more money
It lacks the intensity which I actually prefer
Heh, on the positive side coforments last forever. This Diego red plum and tropical from last year is more or less indistinguishable from when it was fresh
@valid robin this you? lol
š
Is this how you achieve the parmesan note?
Anyone else watch the Dodgers game?
Ohtani might have played the best post season game ever
He is a god
pitching.. and so many home runs ?!?
Why is the line for Tierra mia into the street
I was going to say just go to mandarin but that line is prob longer
Iād rather they go to Tierra
Mia. Heck the Copa vida line goes into the street too.
Tierra Mia is for sugar milk drinks and Frappuccinoās. Totally a different crowd.
Iāve noticed Tierra Mia also gets busy at different times than most coffee shops. They would kill it at 8pm in LB when I lived there.
forgot about the no-kings protest and now dtla on semi lock down
too assed to go back home
My area shops shutdown prettyās early aside from Dunkin/Starbucks/dutch bros sort of places
The long in LB has a drive through. It must make a difference. We always thought it was interesting how busy they got at night. We just assumed dessert frappes
We live pretty close to Chaffey and the Starbucks is always full of college students in the evening.
But other than that not much demand
Interesting. I wonder what contributes to them being busier on this side. I also noticed that Dutch bros in Huntington can get a crazy long line as well.
Tierra Mia > Dutch bros
I like Tierra Mia for what it is. Better vibes than their competitors
Horchata frap pretty yum
Havenāt had it in years though
Horchata was bomb and the Mexican mocha. The guava cream cheese pastry was the hidden gem imo.
I probably would skip the drinks nowadays but Iād definitely cop a few of those pastries to take home to pair with my coffee.
Damn dude $30 for coffee is nutty
It looks like 2 cups, one PO and one spro
I guess that makes it more worth it!
I think itās a cortado using freeze distilled milk.
Panama coffees can be pretty steep in general though. Particularly the geishas due to the hype and demand at auction.Bourbon from the area is a good bargain and really high quality as well though.
I think it was a split shot. One served as a spro the other served as a cortado with freeze distilled milk.
This is what a 1 and 1 is
It's surprising to see it for $30 though
Originally it was "we can split this shot into two cups, throw some milk in that we probably already steamed for another drink". So typically it's not much more than an espresso, like $4 instead of $3
$30 for a double shot of espresso and some milk is crazy work
Ok good
Iām glad Iām not the only one thinking this is some wild pricing
I never heard of a 1 and 1 so I didnāt want to judge harshly
It started in Santa Cruz at Verve, by the guys who went on to found Cat & Cloud
So it's most common in the Bay Area, sometimes around LA. But you won't often see it outside that. It's also sometimes not on the menu but the barista can help you out
I personally hate serving one and one
Especially for like an expensive coffee
Bc we donāt use spouted portafilters
And we have to waste so much milk
First time I came across it was in Orlando of all places. Cool lil specialty scene there
The original idea was to use waste milk but in practice I'm not sure how often that happens
Personally, I don't find specialty coffee, good in milk. Only the cholatiest stuff works imo.
yeah the permutations of different kinds of milk out there and all the different temps... never really happens
I see it on the menu at the cafe in denver I'm in right now
We have to go back to milk being milk. Not this nut juice bullshit
Where can I buy beans in Pasadena
angels?
Are you in my hood
Thought did cross my mind but a tad late for the fam
the fat dripping off looks so good
Ah
The pastor looks better than my spot
50% hit rate so ymmv. Not a recommendation but gotta survive somehow here on the west side
tortilla was ass today, but asada had good flavor
I thought u were in nela now
4 weeks! Canāt wait
ohhh
just ordered nomad
I can't sell it at artesia

there's no exclusivity contract but nomad is just doing it out of courtesy for play lol
Lame.
Small investment to recreate the ānever seen beforeā japan espresso preparation

You should try https://www.quietlycoffee.com/ keep the Canadada roasts coming.
Beautiful coffee roasted in the Ontario countryside. Our mission is to re-imagine the possibilities for a cup of coffee. Through meticulous sourcing, careful and precise roasting, and an unending dedication to always do more, we want to show that each coffee is unique because every cup quietly tells a story.
oh no the roaster
I already own the nomad espresso
It's at east hollywood
Oh yeah i totally forgot
I had it for like 3 years lol

Thought you were just trying to make a quick buck off of normies who saw that ig reel
Only saw it via BANA
On another note, I noticed on the drive between Knotts and Ondo the last few weekends, there were a lot of Korean restaurants. Anything youād recommend checking out @cedar otter ?
Just at me bro
We eat at the park a lot. And itās fine for convenience. But could be fun to check something out that isnāt in Knotts or Buena Park.
han yang
their tonkatsu is so good
iono why/how
it's a soup place
Brah my coworker just recommended me that place
Will go try it soon
they're good
I don't know the area super well sorrie
2 of my coworkers gifted me a jinsol gukbap giftcard
@mellow sonnet
might chop chop someone
time to quit hospital?
just need someone who's available more than 2 days
Uggh, I hate having to let people go.
i only want to do slow bar
also new modbar is ass i like the pourover wand more than a shower screen
this person is only available on weekends, but has life so they take days off and we can't find cover
Ahhh thats valid
yeah it's just a company thing
we're at a point where we actually need people who can be dedicated
Im guessing you gave them a chance too
and we would love to work with people who are passionate about coffee
Before they worked out fine bc we were looking to get any help we can find
Ahhh i see
but Ondo is growing so we also need to find people who also can grow with us
not just offer their services so to speak
Yeah makes sense
Oh, I havenāt had galbi-tang in a long time and it looks like itās on the menu too.
that's all I get there
it's galbi tang + tonkatsu and I split it w/ my kid
Galbi tang so fucking good
i used to skip my morning classes in uni to get galbitang instead
it would be me and then random ahjummas gossiping and nobody else
I actually prefer seolleongtang though
Love pho. But itās super common here, lol
I want to branch out for the kiddo a bit
The only Korean places left in Rancho are kbbq. Which has its place. But itās sort of its own thing
It strange Korean fusion places.
Heard things, but menu never sucked me in. Good?
surprisingly good
just went because I needed resto with decent vibes and the food was good as well
i mean ofc as always not all things
the cinnamon roll was meh
No longer me looking at the NELA crew
oh wow i was reading the top and thought darn i'm a year too late
mandarin, kumquat, ondo time
Who here in tech enjoying the day off bc aws eating shit
Is this why I canāt download files on Adobe ā ļø
Welcome! The chat is generally just LA things. Lots of food talk, some cafes, etc.
The meetups are organized in here and usually happen once or twice a year?
welcome ! yeah this is mostly a food chat š
time to bump my list
I was somewhat thinking of working weekends tbh
come for the coffee - stay for the restaurant recs!
Imagine I worked in ondo mornings and then went to hospital after š
Elida enjoyer š«” maybe I'll drop by again this week
I haven't opened my bag yet
I need to wash my car again big sad
A bird shit on the driver side window š first thing I see when I walk up to my car now
just clean the window? or is it on the paint too
i would just use a quick detailer spray solution with some ONR and a microfiber
Some of us paid $20 this weekend at mandarin
Stealing this
Planning on shutting down the shop and doIng a reservation based omakase
Rip am working
Morning?
Is that the stone filter that's porous so you don't need paper?
Nah thts a ceramic UFO
Yeh ceramic UFO with sibarist fast

Itās def fast
Like it doesnāt matter what grind size I set it to
Brew time is the same
Was it coal?
nah
blue jays abt to win lmfaoooo
Tuned in literally right after the choke
cant wait to see our starters pitch
wow USA vs CAN
WS watch party??
Kendrick vs drake š«
i mean the jays have a trash banger on the team
so we know who's gonna win
damn they pulled it off and won
Being a Toronto native and sports fan is tough. Youāve got Drake being associated with the Jays and Bieber being bffs with Matthews.
Please donāt hold drake against us š
If I want buy a used Casa Do you know how much they sell for?
If I want to sell a Lagom Mini I was wondering how much they are worth with the new adaptor.
average is over $1m now I think š
Rip lol
idk, im guessing like 400ish?
Did you sell yours for that price?
Wondering where is the best place to look for used one?
Where did you list yours so I can be on the look out for another? Thanks for the info
I gave mine to a friend
facebook marketplace, r/coffeeswap, buy and sell channel here
Iāve had some luck creating looking for posts in marketplace on this discord for various things. Canāt hurt.
Just make sure you vet the seller and ask for pictures/videos etc. as well as try to meet up locally if you can
Long time no cup is this what you taught us @cedar otter
Lovely cutting board and knives
jack simpson finally won the barista championship ... he's been trying so long i think.
And somehow Jamison Savageās coffee won again
howwwwwwwww lol
@cedar otter please tell me which savage coffee you have thats good? i dont think ive ever had one that "wowed" me considering the savage pricepoint
i actually want to find a good savage to try
Damn
Savage Iridescence 2025 from H&S was okay. Not my pick and not worth a premium imo
its funny bc competitor and roasters seems to love savage
custies don't seem to love savage
when I went to cokuun in Tokyo, they sold me like a 100g bag of the coffee they used (savage iris) for close to $100
and it just tasted like corn

say no more fam
hydrangea savage at sherrys popup was the most lackluster of the 3 POs for sure.
lol speaking of sherry, I had a SO spro and pourover at mandarin 2 today
I dunno if my taste buds are jacked up (I had breakfast burrito before coming in) but my cups had almost no acidity
too much apax minerals? š¤
the spro was nice initially, but I felt like it just fell flat
thats my sus sometimes ... also @crude citrus saw what happened to my brew when i added too much apax too hahahhahaha
Yea it just killed the coffee. Clarity and acidity disappeared. It was just bean water
imo it doesnt even look that good
Dont think youāre missing out
This is coming from a big Sei fan
oh dont worry, it wasnt for me. i was under orders from the SO lolololol
How was it?
Bean and Bean is somewhere on my radar but long down on the list
Yea you should blame the bots then
They were all pretty good and clean coffees but you realize at a certain point that, just like with wine, you can pay top dollar and get really good drink but the thrill is in finding/making a good drink from a cheap bag
Do you guys really get pour overs when you go out?
Or is it more a specialty drink?
Specialty only on 95% of shops. Espresso on a select few. Never PO unless thatās all they sell @š¦„š
I drink my PO at ~5:30am so i aināt raw dogging my morning for a PO
tbh at most roasters I go to I just go to the drip, more likely to be dialed in and often lighter roast than espresso
if I'm forced to go to a starbucks or something like that I get a hot chocolate
sherrys esmeralda was the standout for me, but tan's TNT was also really good.
might not get a 1&1 in the future if the cost is that crazy though lol
During m @lancehedrick 's recent video, Lance and I talked about common processing terminology and the ideas that we attach to the most-used processing descriptions.
"Washed," of course, doesn't always mean the same as "washed," and "anaerobic" might reference one or two different fermentation stages.
In the comments of the video, many people ...
158
im even more confused now lol
If you want to get rid of an extra deep27 let me know
i just buy whatever beans people tell me taste good
I just got blue and clear brown in today
Donāt tempt me. Wife says she canāt understand the $50 I spent on beans from you last weekend when I have a bunch of burlaps full
Sometimes I just donāt want to drink the same thing ok
All the more reason to launch subs
I joined the secret Santa. Someone here is getting a final release ragdoll
āWhat is ORC LLC and why are they billing you $25 every month?ā
āThatās webhosting for my cv dearā
Heh, sheās a budget hawk though. She knows every penny that goes in and out of our accounts.
Ngl that was helpful. The philos, linea mini etc were totally ragdoll purchases for instance.
Now I need to pinch coins for a handgrinder for our trip in December.
If you plan on drop shipping budget handgrinders in the next few weeks let me know btw. Preferably 1zpresso or kingrinder.
Ay what shade you throwing at me this time bro

I basically only get PO at shops
I've been getting disappointed recently at mandarin tho
Learn Cantonese
Christina wanted pandan latte bro
Itās ok, gf cookies made up for it
time to get into tea
You and me brah.
The hs Kenya bag that 𦄠gave is pretty guud do
Skill issue.
Kidding, you probably just need to mix it up.
One of the Chinese coffees I cupped today was interesting. I put it on the bottom of my list bc it tasted like soy sauce. When it cooled it tasted like lemon tea and it shot up to the top. Hence the ice in the cups
The ice was an interesting move
Yeah I never thought to do a iced cupping
Also your boy is still unemployed af so I guess Iām in
As long as itās $10 I should add
Itās in the SCA fine print. Trust me bro
Thatās my budget for outings now š
There a cool place up in the Seattle area that does something like that. Its called Open On Most Days
https://www.instagram.com/openonmostdays/
taste a bunch of bad coffee for a week to reset palette
Donāt have the luxury of doing that
Go out drinking and kill the taste buds for a few days
me at Counter Culture tastings
You still go on these
I drink bad coffee all day at work and then enjoy my orb brew mid day
Tasting at Ten is giving me good memories
Meta or bust
I saw these in Alhambra costco
unfortunately not in the budget to upgrade š
idk i really wanted 703 s3 as my speakers
but i think its a good speaker for hte price
bruh thats a diff tier
might as well focal it up
i think b&w speakers are so nice aestheically
I don't think speakers in general look that great and I'm fine with sonos quality
future house going to have built in speakers in wall and ceiling
i think built in ones are fine for actually just filling a room or having ok surround sound but in terms of audio quality sometimes its meh until you get super whale
Eaf secret Santa? Sounds fun. Is that a š only thing?
Oh, maybe. I have no idea. Perhaps I let the cat out of the bag. Maybe we could do a SoCal secret Santa though? Then all get together to slam Ondo and exchange gifts š
No worries Iāve seen a few people mention it.
It already sounds chaotic so probably best to limit those involved
Yeah I skipped on doing that
Getting acoustics right was going to be a pain. But if you just want sonos quality then for sure go for it
Itās not hard as long as you have decent attic space
If you remodel to studs then itās super easy
My parents did a built in set up throughout the house with Sonos. They loved it for 10 years. Then Sonos stopped supporting the gear and paying for the tech and new modern stuff started to add up.
So my take away from that is - make sure you try your best to future proof it and make it easy to work on.
future proof and tech belong nowhere in the same sentence together
10yrs is long enough for me
Don't build in anything with smart tech, all that's built to fail when the company needs more money
I suppose my take away is more so; have it be installed so itās not a major remodel if you need to work on it.
When we install imaging machines like a CT we run extra cables to be able to pivot at a later time.
I decided not to do tier because itās just more effort when it comes time to upgrade. I mostly just have crappy Google assistants throughout the house other than for my PC, projector and television though.
What Iāve been procrastinating on for like five years is wiring this house for Ethernet
would you guys even be able to park tho
unless you're biking here
time to bring out my scuffed as hell bike
I used to ride a lot but I'm having too much stuff to spend money on
@desert stirrup I want that Aiden but cheaper
new batch š
Maybe you can get him to trade it for coffee or cafec filters š
What if you barter?
Coffee for aiden. š
Or ondo gift card
How much is your budget?
Iām down to work with you
I also have a Prusa Mini+ if someone wants to buy that for stupid cheap
Fully functional and prints!
@glossy sail @mellow sonnet plz hype everyone else about the Picolot Elida

sibarist fast=loses some body, some "deeper" fruit notes, but turns brighter and cleaner
@cedar otter o ya can I ask what your paragon + ufo PO recipe is for most beans?
after like 2 months of doing 60/60/60/60/60 I don't think its the best method tbh
12.5/200 40+40+40+40+40
only the bloom is 40 sec, other pours are 30 sec interval.
So 0:00, 0:40, 1:10, 1:40, 2:10
First three are circle pours, last two are center pours
tyty
the 3rd pour, I pour in a bigger circle to clean out the stuck particles on top
to reincorporate
do you know why 20/300 60/60/60/60/60 isnt as good?
ehhh just more coffee
more coffee = requires longer brewing time = muddies the cup
also thicker brew bed
yeah thats pretty much it
it works somewhat fine on v60 but I noticed its not that viable for ufo
yeah
UFO was created to achieve shallower brew bed depth
so it doesn't work as well
maybe it can work with the sibarist fast filters
v60 I actually prefer 20 gram
16g or less can introduce too much bypass
2 months of drinking coffee to figure out
v60 my recipe fine but whenever I used ufo it just didnt taste right to me
yeah UFO is best for 12-16 grams
It was developed with those. It's how UFO works best.
Can confirm picolot was good
Am on the fence for UFO bc I just use v60 or origami for everything
Occasional colum and deep27 for small
Jay told me he is testing a new line of filters that is faster than th-3 but slower than sibarist fast
Was this the upcoming release he talked about within the last few months?
Maybe
Nice. Last time I talked to him, which I think was like April? He was talking with different paper suppliers in Korea for bespoke ufo papers. So maybe thats it.
mucho good. go get some!
ceramic UFO does look nice in person haha
Yesss
Sonos has lossless on Spotify now hmmm

Oh man I just stopped in there recently it was pretty run down. The place is pretty big, big enough for a bakery and coffee
Forgot to hit reply to this
Thereās also a former pizza spot on Union next to Union the restaurant (between fair oaks and raymond)
And a former brunch spot on Holly haha
Would love to do something like that lol my ideal set up is having a back āprivateā dining room that is a coffee omakase room
Oh did that place close down? It wasnāt bad. Itās a big spot though. Prince street mustāve took them out
Like 4-6 seats with all the coffee toys
Design it like cokuun where you have to crawl in and say itās part of the experience
š
Huh, their original location was in Upland and they have another in Rancho Cucamonga. Surprised they tried to move out there.
Birria focused place.
Birria is alright⦠though a little different from the Jaliscan style Iām used to.

Now this is what I'm talking about!
In this video, I take a look at the 51mm and 58mm Ikape Portable Espresso Maker. While this is not the first of its kind on the market, I do be...
this + zp6 is sounding like a great travel setup
Psa: donāt get burrito at mid east tacos. Itās all Spanish rice
wow, that is wild. almost exactly a copy of the OutIn Nano.. but i think it's slightly better, in that it has some nicer elements.
options:
- OutIn Nano
- Ikape K2
- Wacaco Pixapresso
I think if you want to brew at lower pressures or temps, then you may want #3.
I've liked using #1, and it's kinda cool how #2 has 51mm and 58mm options, but basically you're stuck with the pressure and temp that it gives you..
- unless you use "brew immediately" feature on both, and use a kettle to set water temp
Looks a lot like the trek as well. https://espressooutlet.com/products/turintrek-portable-espresso-machine-and-grinder
Turin TrekBrew: The Ultimate Portable Espresso Experience Take your espresso game anywhere with the Turin TrekBrew, the all-in-one portable espresso solution designed for coffee lovers on the move. These things are getting more common.
TBF i bet they are from the same factory in china
I mean.. all the turin stuff is just slapping his label on something from alibaba
yea
So in that case for sure it'll be the same as some others
i think for the ikape you are really paying for the app integration
which is neat
changing parameters (preinfuse time, flowrate, etc) is definitely a new feature yea?
wish temps could be higher than low 90s
ah, searching their site i couldn't find options.. but that's cool if you can alter temp in the app. (didn't watch the vid)
i'd want to be able to alter pressure too..
you can alter flow rate
theres no pressure sensor
so change grind size
mmm.. yeah, i guess a proxy of flow rate + grind size changes would be "good enough"
yes
i mean pressure is just a measure of resistance to flow
so grind size is what determines pressure anyways
cool, that paired with altering temp is quite nice. I do feel the OutIn Nano is a bit too limiting.
grind to fine and nothing comes out anyways
the smily face on the Wacaco Pixapresso is hard to beat, tho š
why would you choose ZP6 hand grinder over.. say.. K-Ultra or J-Ultra ?
i've really enjoyed pairing the K-Ultra with the OutIn Nano, but i do like a more traditional (chocolatey) espresso taste.
no idea - havent looked into handgrinders lol
but its intriguing for my camping purposes.
Zp6 is a weird choice tbh. It doesnāt go fine enough for anything but soup which is not what most of these are designed for.
P100 seems like a great travel grinder:
#setups-archived message
So you can grind for espresso
I meant. If it's strictly pourover, and tea like is your liking. Then maybe zp6 is best
I'm currently liking the m01
^ yeah, that's why i looove the K-Ultra for mobile espresso for travel/camping
Thatās the opposite of what he asked
you had me confused for a sec
i havent dived into handgrinders but id like one for spro and PO setup
But the issue is that it can't grind really Coarse
orea z1 for travel PO
Yeah. I answered. But should have answered differently. But I sent it
Kingrinder k7 is about to be available. Espresso capable.
You gonna be the guinea pig
I want to get another handgrinder for some upcoming trips. But Iām sort of spoiled.
M01
Lol
I guess I should rotate it a bit.
If the k6 is almost always $100
What is a k7
what do you use this Timemore M01 for ?
espresso ? pourover ?
M01 is clarity focused pineapple burrs.
Nice grinder. But honestly I probably want to spend less since my goal is something for two or three vacations of two week duration per year lol
My problem with the zp6 is that I felt sort of bad that it just sat in a drawer most of the year
M01 is also sort of big
Someone reported that it was on taobao for $85.
Can do both. But I lean towards pourover with it
Big and heavy
Iāll wait for the m01 whirly.
I mean itās all coal except datura š
Im literally at 5g of coffee, not even freezer stash anymore
Might have to start fishing for the random beans underneath the fridge
My backlog is majority panama gesha right now š
I have 1 bag of prodicoal too but it's bc I haven't had a Honduras coffee in forever so I decided to buy it
need more room for coffee?
ill buy ur backlog off u if u dont enjoy it as much
Is that like $54 for 18g? Lol
Do we trust hydrangea roast? Heard mixed reviews about $$$ coffee
In last bought in Jan and it was a botched roast
Yeah that's why I'm scared š¤”
It looks even better than when I was there
My 1 and 1 was fire! And not $30
$194/50g but owell it'll be on d27 only
Personally I haven't been wowed by them. But lots of others like them so ĀÆ_(ć)_/ĀÆ
Also I think they scan for mentions of their name here
Iām aware š
All roasters here do, but I would too so not trippin
š
Were u the one that bought Nomad?
We sold 4 bags even without any announcements
No I'm tapped out right now
Hydrangea hit recently for me
š
o shit did u get that peach co-ferment
jk
Did they do that again? I think last year that was with mandarin
Weāll take care of it.
See yall this weekend?
Brewing washed gesha from flowerchild and elida aguacate natural lot from Picolot
my wallet hates u
That traffic coffee is highly underrated, Iāve had a few different bags now and enjoyed the hell out of them all.
Yup, they are a little bit developed but really good value and really good.
good for newbs and experienced drinkers alike
Like this guy froze this Mate Matiwos lot for an entire year
(green)
I enjoyed that everything was so different, it keeps everythingās fun, and Iām a sucker for good packaging. I get
That nicer coffees tend to have ācleaner/minimalistā looking packaging but itās what kind of makes me overlook them for something else.
that was a mistakeeeeeee lol
Is this at Artesia?
yep
yess
hopefully soon at East Hollywood
gotta set up one location at a time
whats missing at east hollywood? gotta drop by harbor freight for a leveler? š
I also have Nucleus Compass but looks like my supplier no longer carries it
LOL staff that are willing to do manual pourovers
which can change soon
since I promoted someone to a manager position
dude nucleus compass
we'll just push down agendas
Leaves Coffee Roaster status
how mcuh is a compass?
like $180
holy crap
lmaoooo
I bought it like 1.5 years ago

but never really followed thru
it's basically that infrared thermometer
