I thought he got hard cancelled. Cool to see him still going

#

Yo somebody buy my fellow Aiden, tally, or J ultra!

#

I’m thinking of selling the ZP6 too

#

I’m just wondering if that would be useful to have for camping purposes

#

Don’t think the Pietro will do well in that scenario

boreal solar

My main problem with Dayglow is that they generally mark up imported beans to a point that it’s not really worth while for me.

#

I haven’t been there to order a drink in a long time now though.

eternal birch

I'm still yet to go to dayglow but have heard that the warhol drink is good

junior bobcat
boreal solar
#

I think they have an exclusive contract with Dak for the area or something of the like? If they were able to negotiate that in they probably got a good rate.

#

I mean as a whole, they’re priced higher. But I’m sure there’s exceptions

#

I also dismissed them pre tariff so admittedly the world has changed a lot

I feel like for camping it will always be mid at best

#

So no point in having a good grinder

#

I also would most likely use a French press while camping anyway

#

Camping V60 might be cumbersome

boreal solar

Qair is the one you’re thinking of. It’s light and also conveniently fits inside an aeropress(which you can use the extra money from the zp6 to buy for camping)

If I’m car camping I’m bringing a whole set up. That’s the whole fun of car camping.

If I were actually backpacking I would bring instant and call it a day.

vivid violet

up until then, it worked great

i liked that it heated the water for me. was also thinking of a Picopresso (or a Pixapresso w/ heating), but didn't try those yet.

paired great with a K-Ultra Plus hand grinder.

#

I was just convinced into getting a day pack which is overkill for our usual out and back hikes.
But now I'm thinking I'm going to bring a canister, burner, and stuff to brew coffee on hikes 😈

vivid violet
#

OutIn support was also really nice, and immediately sent me a replacement.

boreal solar

Glad they’re replacing it.

vivid violet

yeah, they replaced it immediately (while i was still away).

Just gave it a test run and it works great. and i got to pick a new color šŸ™‚

low mantle

It’s the kettle that kills space for camping/daypack. I can’t find anything small, durable, and pours slowly for a v60.

I couldn’t endure the endless ridicule of friends mocking me using a bribe around the campfire.

boreal solar
#

Just fill a camelbak with Japanese iced.

dull adder

# dull adder Hario Air?

The problem is then you still need a heating vessel like a pot. I need a SS hario air. That would be amazing actually

boreal solar
dull adder
#

I have a titanium pot. It fits a burner and canister inside

boreal solar
#

Something like I linked above would be a lot better with usb c and a lithium ion battery. I suppose that would cost a lot more though

vivid violet
boreal solar
vivid violet
#

i guess also the "benefit" of both OutIn Nano and Wacaco Pixapresso is they both heat water themselves, and can take Nespresso pods too.. so that would be even more compact.

any suggestions on how to keep crab somewhat fresh for transport

vivid violet
eternal birch
#

needed to clarify

#

oh rory ur orange now too

vivid violet
#

it's just jaundice

eternal birch
#

I'll be crabbing/fishing at 5am, return 5pm, flight out at 9pm, arrive 10pm

#

maybe just kill and ice?

#

idk if I can keep em alive for 24hours

low mantle
#

I mean worst case scenario they just eventually die and you put them on ice.

eternal birch
#

yeah but I dont think the meat is as good

vivid violet
#

i think it's better to keep them alive / on ice for as long as you can..

#

yeah.. true.

#

maybe just go fishing, then stop off at a market to pick up crab ?

low mantle
#

I’m vegetarian so I’m out of my depth here.

vivid violet
#

i don't have a lot of experience keeping them for that long

eternal birch
#

hell nah, imma have massive dungeness

#

somewhat sadistic thing but we have soy sauce crab in korean culture

#

and I didnt know but the crab is drowned in the marinade pretty much

#

so I had a heart attack when I opened the fridge at 3am and the crab was hitting the tupperware

vivid violet
#

omg. poor thing.

eternal birch
#

it was 100% alive for like 6-7hrs in soy sauce

#

but also I heard dungeness perish super easily

#

so idk, I probably need to ask a crab expert

#

I dont want em suffocating or anything

#

but also the korean soy sauce one is blue crab and theyre usually invasive as hell

vivid violet
#

interesting. Gemini Pro suggested that you cook it before flying.

(to stop the blah blah from degrading)

eternal birch
#

hmm

#

will be last resort

low mantle
#

Googled it and I guess the keeping them alive in the marinade helps with texture and flavor. Totally fucked up though.

# junior bobcat sheesh. Did they fix it? And how's the coffee out of it, if you have the non-pre...

after taking down the batch number and some vids, they apologized, indicated it might have been part of a bad batch, and sent out a replacement.

I wanted to fix that unit too, but didn't feel comfortable flying with it (I was overseas).. so my friend just e-recycled it.

coffee from it is superb, imo. (for what it is) the larger 18g espresso basket does have only 1 hole at the bottom, so I'm not sure it's pressurized..

short condor
junior bobcat
glossy sail
vivid violet
# junior bobcat great that they fixed it. Influencers online talk about using dark roasts becaus...

mine stopped heating water before it completely broke, so i ended up using a kettle for a bit, but when i did, even with mediums i really enjoyed the lower temps (prob around 90 to 88 C, or below). i did not have any light roasts to try.

one med peruvian decaf did taste a bit grassy, but i think that might just be this bean.

i think that the Wacaco Pixapresso which has more variation on temps might actually be a bit better.. of course it’s a giant company, vs OutIn which is a recent startup with 50 to 100 people.. and i kinda like supporting small businesses, so i’ll stick with it and see how it goes.

cedar otter
#

Thanks for doing that!

#

Trying to grow the roasting side now and take on wholesale little by little but there’s hardly any resources on how to do that lol

boreal solar
#

I don’t know man. Most of the cafes and popups I had were word of mouth tbh.

#

I attempted giving our samples and courting a few places but nothing really panned out when I initiated. I gave away so much coffee for no reason

cedar otter
#

I’m speaking more so of

#

How to price things

#

And etc

#

Cashflow strategies

#

Like the business side of coffee roastery

#

I’m only doing it with people I have prior relationships or who have been my cafe customers

boreal solar
#

I had a spreadsheet that accounted for green pricing, shrinkage, batch roasting time, batch size, and packaging.

cedar otter
#

It’s almost exactly the same order

boreal solar
#

I also had separate entries for the bullet and the Yoshan as well as coroast costs to see what was more effective for orders

#

The annoying thing was trying to compete with established roasters like klatch in the area on price. I had to pay myself like nothing to match that without sacrificing quality further.

cedar otter
#

We really can’t do that

boreal solar
#

I know.

cedar otter
#

That’s why I just buy more expensive greens and microlots that the big guys can’t touch

boreal solar

Klatch did work out in my favor a few times though. I got a tasty watermelon coforment that they hired Hacea to import for them before the additional quantities were listed by schmoozing with the brothers there during local pickups.

options:

  2. Ikape K2
  3. Wacaco Pixapresso

I think if you want to brew at lower pressures or temps, then you may want #3.

I've liked using #1, and it's kinda cool how #2 has 51mm and 58mm options, but basically you're stuck with the pressure and temp that it gives you..
