We had a level bot a long time ago, and it encouraged a lot of focus on leaderboards, spamming-for-the-sake-of-points and gaming the bot to get more points. As a whole we prefer for conversations to be more organic and motivated by a desire to talk to folks

On top of what Sadbox said, the pings are just incredibly annoying
