what coffee is this?
you may find it bitter for your taste regardless of what you do, though i'd probably start with a shorter ratio if it is overwhelmingly bitter. something like 15:15 might be a good starting point
prep looks fine
wouldnt 15:15 be more bitter
more concentrated
anyways, whats the consensus on pressure? do i need to fill the basket to the brim and when i tamp there needs to be very little space?
i heard if you fill the basket like halfway there is channeling and basically like 4 bars'
well, the latter part of that isn't really true
the water fills a little slower and lets the puck soak gently so there may be some changes, but i don't think you're going to see a precipitous drop
15:15 will indeed be more concentrated but this doesn't mean it will be more bitter; compounds seem to extract at different rates
Also if it’s less bitter but too concentrated you can just dilute it a bit to 1:2 with water
Bambino doesn’t go that low
The Kirkland blend is a pretty darkly roasted coffee (Starbucks roasts for them iirc) so it will typically be pretty bitter. Pulling a shorter ratio would help, but if you keep hitting bitter, coffees this dark work really well in milk drinks 😀
You can also try to grind a bit coarser. This will make your shot faster, which can temper bitterness a bit.
So something like 15:30 in 20seconds
