Title, even if it's just a support gem/s. I currently have a few abilities that deal pure phys,a nd I'm scaling my pure phys, I took cloak of hidden daggers because it seemed a good fit, fast hitting for more bleed stacks, but the half of the damage being chaos bugs me, and would like a way to convert the chaos to phys. There was a mod for Grim Dawn that had an item augment for damage conversions so you could make some real wacky combinations, which would be neat here, in my opinion. Thoughts?

most of the games stats and balancing seem to be ripped straight from path of exile, which has a strict hierarchy for conversion : Phys -> fire ->cold ->lightning -> chaos.
you can convert any damage to another so long as it is to the right of it, in this case you cannot convert chaos to phys.
this is to prevent loops ie convert all phys to lightning, convert lightning back to phys, as the game wouldnt know what damage type to assign as the conversion loops
There is another way to prevent loops (which M&S already does, check trickster ascendancy) - convert each number only once. Which allows for non-hierarchial conversions
honestly not sure if cte2 uses that logic for damage types, i would need to test in creative
It definitely use that logic for defenses
This is how conversions work in path of exile. And you totally can convert the same damage multiple times, as long as it's within that order.
So you can have a phys to lightning gem on blade vortex with a hrimsorrow, and then support blade vortex with cold to fire support and it'll be 50% lightning 25% cold and 25% fire
(I'm a nerd and have done this exact setup for a blade vortex multi element build with all ailments. Don't mind me.)
I know I'm asking to skip the order and do chaos to phys, but I also would just like more options for conversions.
One step limitation is required then (like in GD) , due to phys-chaos conversion exist
imo i dont even like conversions, it adds too much complexity
