#pleace help with metasploit reverse tcp handler

Metasploit is stupid
Probably doesn't work due to false internet configurations or you're using wrong IP address
Try pinging the computer before testing the listener
might sound dumb but how do i do tha?
You know CMD?
on windows, press the windows key + R
Then type cmd
Then run the command ping <ip_address>
The command is identical on Linux
What is your VM software?
Maybe the vm client firewall is blocking the listener
viritualbox
Try pinging your computer from the vm
Lol you don't have to hide your local ip address
Anyways the fault is probably on the listener or the client side
I would probably test this by using netcat on both sides and messing around seeing what happens
If you're certain both sides are correct then it might be the vm firewall disallowing you to listen
whoopies
hey do you know how to turn off firewall on viritualbox
cant find it online
then it's probably just you misusing the reverse shell
@next gorge
@ionic sparrow think it's on the VMs side, did the tryhackme rootme ctf and did exactly everything right (following a youtube video to make sure), and i get the same problem. whet it starts to listen nothing happends and i dont get the "connection from 10.10.161.8"
you didn't say you were trying to establish a connection between a VM and a remote TryHackMe machine
please provide better details
@ionic sparrow ill tell you the whole story: I created a rat using thefatrat (in a kali vm using viritualbox). exploit: meterpreter reverse tcp, im 99% i did everything correct since i followed multiple guides and videos. the problem is when i start listening with metasploit and then execute the rat.exe on my real pc nothing happends on metasploit and no session starts. i reached out to you as well as multiple other people about my issue aswell as researching online but havent been able to find a solution. Today, i was doing a ctf on tryhackme called rootme, i followed a youtubevideo and created a reverse shell, did everything correctly again but when i started listening (with netcat this time) nothing happends.
if you're up we can voice chat with share screen and I'll try fixing your issue
Absolutely! would be nice
@ionic sparrow just lmk
maybe tomorrow or something
alrighty
hey i think i found the problem, i think its the ip of the vm, 10.0.2.15. Private IP address
10.0.2.15 is a private IP address which is reserved for private networks (such as Private LANs, Internal Networks etc.). Therefore, 10.0.2.15 has no physical location assigned.(from google)
when my host system connects to 10.0.2.15 port being 5555 it doesnt connect anywhere
do you think im on the right path
that the ip adress asigned to the rat isnt uniqe
im actually about to go insane
I'm really confused on what you're trying to say
@next gorge you can join vc
sudo recover
