Did 2 plates ( 120kg/265(?) lbs) on deadlift today for 8 reps >:D
8 reps is my usual for deadlift so thinking I could do it for reps next week if I'm feeling it 🤔
what exactly r reps i see it being said everywhere but dont exactly know what it is😭😭😭
Reps is how many times you lift the weight! So if you did 10 reps of 10kg, you lifted the 10kg 10 times
And sets is how many times you do the reps. Usually there's a break in between
So if you did 2 sets of 10×10kg, it would be you lifted 10kg 10 times twice
Started back to dumbell routine today after a 2 week break. Had some physio done on a shoulder issue but felt good getting back to it today, just had to cut out overhead raises and sticking to some stretching routines.

at least for ankle i do daily exercises i learned in physical therapy

balancing progression is 30 sec one foot, 30 sec one foot eyes closed, then 30 sec one foot eyes closed while stood on a pillow

We were doing 3 min at intensity 3 min low intensity and did 5 sets
Keep doing these on a flat track for a bit and then going to move into a nice steep uphill fire road for vertical training

@agile bear Check your soles of your oldest shoes for uneven wear, it can tell you a lot

Finished physiotherapy for my shoulder last week and feeling so much better. No random discomfort or stiffness after a workout. Made it to 3 sets today with no issue.

last year I tried a half marathon but didn’t train well enough so my legs shut down in the last two miles
it can be tough to break into longer distances, have to be a lot more mindful of refueling and such
so if anything I’m making a more concerted effort to do long runs
just run like you have been and the distance will come, im training for a 50k right now and a lot of the longer distance running really comes down to the mileage / hours spent running per week
a few years ago when i first tried training for a marathon i increased my mileage too quickly and burnt myself out
went from not running to doing 15+ mile runs in like 4 months
i had all sorts of stuff going wrong, my leg my back my hip lol
once or twice a week with shorter 5 ish mile runs mixed in
yeesh yeah that sounds like it would hurt
something i think is key if you run a lot is to just take it easy on long runs
dont go for a pace
just go for actively running and doing what you set out to do

ive been doing cardio for about a year but this january was when i setup a proper scheme for weights n stuff
I’ve found that doing short workouts more days in a week felt less mentally taxing than longer ones less days
push pull legs five to six days worked out pretty well. Was able to get in and out the gym in under an hour usually
I do push pull 4 days a week 2 each and run 5 or 6 days a week
Stretch routine six or seven days a week
I look forward to being able to recover quicker

Hello fitnessdome, I would like everyone to know that I ~finally~ have my own shoes that don't make me feel like my shins and calves will implode when I walk in them, big win for me and my legs health! Finally can do some cardio without hating it
Also, does anyone have any stretches/exercises they do to strengthen their ankles ? Feel like I could really use that
Been getting back into my routine since the start of the year, finally got two back to back 12min full body sets done. Gonna try to maintain that a bit more then up the weights I'm on.
Debating getting a kettlebell or just another adjustable dumbell for squats / two handed exercises. I'm using 8kg dumbells for now and while they're good for single arm exercises, I def don't feel enough difficulty with squats and tricep raises.
5 weeks into judo and really enjoying it, but definitely feeling the effects of it. My core strength is for sure lacking so gonna focus more of my workouts around that. It's been very fun though!

you can take protein supplements too and get protein powder for shakes
sometimes I’ll just make a fuck load of scrambled eggs and that’s a good amount of protein
or just eating hard boiled eggs for less calories depending on whether you’re bulking or not
i feel this esp bc im also veggie. i put protein powder in anything i can, like porridge, i put vanilla protein powder in yogurt, in smoothies, i been putting it in milkshakes when i have them also. like literally everything.
and then peas r acc sick for protein. been making savoury oats w peas and then u could also add an egg to tht
peanut butter is really good too, dont mind the "fats" on them cause theyre not saturated and you need them to grow anyway so
and of course, the good old chicken breast is a really nice source too, but there are others like tuna and etcetera
also, try to avoid the protein bars and the protein yogurts cause most of the time they have as much sugar as they have carbs so i would use them like a pre or post workout snack

Also this is really solid advice. Another excellent source of carbs is potatoes, which can be microwave steamed and seasoned in about 15 minutes. Add salt and butter to improve taste as well as add a few extra calories

we`ll, no big expert on the matter, but there's a really nice youtube channel that talks everything about injuries or problems with mobility, joints, exercises, etc. Used some of the tips on myself and solved it so it might help on your case, try to search more about core stability, and exercises that can help with bone density/strength.
also i don`t, but i had an Hip impingement once, and it SUCKED

Okie, I am not tracking calories in an evil way (and I usually forget to be honest it's too much work 💀💀) I just like to know what I'm putting in my body. Eating lots of proteins

In this case, if u're cutting, you should consider ditching that idea because smoothies tend to get you more calories than munching on the fruit, cuz all of that chewing reduces the calorie consumption (talking in numbers, you get 200/400 calories more than just plain fruit, cuz of enzimes and stuff)

If you're trying to lose weight without tracking calories and going to the gym, here are some tips that have worked for me:
- Intermittent fasting: OK, it's another strange term, but it basically means skipping one of your usual meals. I usually skip breakfast or afternoon tea/ snack, since I eat five times a day when bulking up. I know it sounds crazy, but it's an easy way to cut down. Also, if you usually eat three times a day, don't try this — try changing your eating habits, because eating three times a day and gaining muscle don't go well together.

Cardio: I usually aim for 10,000 steps a day, and after training, 15 minutes of low-to-mid intensity cardio (such as walking up the stairs or cycling) works well too.

it is easy schedule wise to run at that hour and cooler, and besides if i get into this race at end of july i will have to be running at night for a portion of it (24 hr time limit)

so it was quite painful
yeah in my case im more selective about that cuz of running shoes, the toebox in them screw my feet, and makes me lose balance in lifts like squats
so i stick to low to mid cardio, but from time to time i give a lil run for fun, used to do that alot too
everyone has their preferences, running aint better than any other chosen activity
and in some ways worse cause its so high impact and prone to injury esp at high volume

ok so funky drawing, but a toebox is the shape that your shoes have, most of the running shoes (or most of the shoes nowadays) have the toebox on the left, and despite being made for running and such, they don't take our feet ergonomics into consideration, so what happens to most of us, is getting bad feet, specially at an older age, so yeah, get dem orthopedics yall

idk id more suspect the fit of the shoes or the build of the particular shoe model over any overarching issue with running shoes and the ergonomics of our feet

Push/pull/legs , can show you the exercises I do if you want. I do 3-4 sets, 6-8 reps for most but I do 10-12 on some (abduction machines; they are really easy for me)
Thank you for the advice! I didn't know that about eating 3 meals. I typically aim for two filling meals - breakfast I like is plain yogurt with frozen fruit and nuts/granola. I eat a lot of chicken + rice/noodles...i like to steam veggies too! I need to be careful with imf ||because that was essentially my main "method" in my eating disorder, for very unhealthy amounts of time|| (Ed tw but hard to not talk about it with this stuff lol)
Low-key I probably end up "fasting" on accident because my meds make my appetite kinda poopy (better rn with gym) but it is not conscious lmao
I want to bulk/cut at some point so I can gain more muscle, but bulking can be a little scary for me BC of past experience :s

basically had to stop doing crunches and let the rest grow
this is real asf, deff take ur time w it, and for me focusing more on food science than calories has been helpful.
im focusing purely on functional fitness, like i dont rlly want to start counting calories rn as u said it can be a slippery slope. its cool we got a mix of goals here tho so we can all pick n choose n learn from each other.
Oh, that's okay. Honestly, I feel you because|| I did have a very strict diet once and it affected my health negatively||. Either way, it's okay to maintain and still make some gains, but i suggest taking your diet into consideration.
Doing a PPL split three times per week is okay if you're just starting out, but if you swap it for an Upper/Lower Split and go four times instead of three, not only will your legs grow more, but your upper body will too.
If you want to stick to three days, I'd suggest making it a full body workout and focusing on compound movements in each session (deadlifts, bench presses and squats). If you want to stick to the PPL split, turn it into a PLP split :), because most of the time, the muscles you used on push or pull day are already fatigued the next day. If you want to maximise growth, you should let them rest. Trust me, you'll feel a lot better and make more progress.

nah i do an asynchronous hybrid split, so i go 4 days a week (PLP, then one Upper), the next week i do 5 (Upper Lower/PLP)

Lift to failure
usually i go up a weight if I can do 10 reps with ease
and if my form dips then I drop it down and do more reps
form is the most important part
this is with uppers I add
not the same for legs
that too, but go for a 8 to 12 rep range, for first sets, do a strength one, where you go for 5 reps with heavy weight, try a wee bit less of that weight for 8 after two weeks, now u progressed 👌
i mean for arms, that rep range works best, but compounds, 6 to 8 is lit
but hey, each person has different muscle fibers, recovery, strength, etc, so everyone should adapt to what works best

id like to say im good at walking but having a license has definitely lowered my steps, though my job is standing (retail) . this is a good idea though!!
i was just kinda considering throwing myself into the deep end and waiting til it was ok (not a good idea) (this is how i do all my exercise for some fucking reason)
idk where you live but hiking can be good cause you can introduce more variable terrain that is more challenging than walking pavement
bonus you can run the downhills and you dont need good cardio for that
my driveway is steep incline, may be a good place to start
ive never been hiking though I also would like to (though havent looked much into it). I did go on a 4 hour hike with a friend the other day and was confused why i was exhausted the following day

well, tbh, been in the gym for 1 year and a half and i still figuring out the best technique for every exercise and variation, i would suggest going light and focus on the mobility of your squat to see what works or not, we're all different 👌
in my case if i ever buy some sport stuff, i would search for the actual manufacturer of the apparel, buy it, and design bcs the price tags are outrageooooous
like Prozis for example, they get a gazillion of shirts that are worth pennies each, stamp them with cheap flex material, and inflate the price for like 150 to 200% no joke
