gruul has a lot of ways to mana ramp. getting a lot of mana on the field quickly is a good way to make an X cost card like that worthwhile

if thats your only copy of the card you probably will want a way to search for it, if youre planning on building around it

or i could carry some counteracting instants/destroy creature cards too to just shut those down real quick

It doesn't technically ignore it. Double strike has two instances of combat, first strike and normal combat. Only creatures with fs/ds hit on the first combat proc, so a creature with dt but no fast combat gets hit first and dies, never getting the chance to "touch" anything. A creature with first strike (or double) and dt will trade with it because they hit each other at the same time

Old rulings used to also apply dt damage with effects like
↪️: this creature deals x damage to target
But I think that's been changed and dt only applies on combat?

deathtouch applies for any damage from a deathtouch source including pings

Deathouch became a keyword in Future Sight, solidifying that it’s non-combat damage as well. This is why basilisk collar with cards like ballista or goblin sharpshooter is so good. It’s a different effect than the versions that are non-keyworded pre-future sight.

If we’re talking stackable keywords tho, lifelink is different from the old version. Like Spirit link grants a triggered ability that can also be put on your opponents creatures to gain you life whereas lifelink gains life simultaneously with damage. If you were to place these two cards on a single creature, the effects stack and you will gain twice the life.

I used to run a 60 card deck around this, mostly flavored from mirrodin besieged block. I converted it into my mono-blue Jin Gitaxis EDH deck which is a heavy card draw theme. I load the deck with artifacts that have sac abilities, and if this card gets into play I try to forgo ‘no maximum hand size’ and start dumping artifacts in the bin. Graveyard hate trumps it but counter spells help -bojuka bog tho 😵
