I have a 14" late 2023 macbook pro m3 16 gb 1tb its the base model m3 with 8 core cpu and 10 core gpu and im wanting to upgrade to the 14" macbook m5 pro 18 core 20 core version with 1tb and 24gb of memory. im a student in college and i also edit 4k video and photo taken with my iphone 17 pro i also do a little bit of gaming on the side so im wondering if this is a worth while upgrade. Any thoughts?

If your current MacBook is working fine for those tasks, I honestly wouldn't worry about it
Honestly I’ve noticed it slow down over time when editing
It may be a ram issue
Honestly an M5 Pro would be a solid upgrade if you need one. I'd also consider upgrading to 48GB of RAM if possible.
id use it the rest of college so if im going to buy one im going to go all out

True, if you have an external SSD, you can probably get by with 1TB just fine.
The extra RAM (48GB) would be quite helpful though, now and in the future, especially with 4K editing and multitasking
currently on my 1tb im only using 397gb
