Did you change your password recently?
No this has been happening since I first got the MacBook 2 months ago
that would be in the Lock Screen settings on your macbook
Require password after screen saver begins or display is turned off

This just makes it so I don’t need to put a password in or use the Touch ID. My issue is that I want my laptop to lock but so that I can use Touch ID to unlock instead of having to type in the password every time

Can you share what your settings are on for lock screen?
Ill have a look when im back home. It would be whatever the default setting is I never changed it since buying the laptop
