#Partition an SSD for MacOS backups and ProRes Log

i currently have nothing on the SSD
it'll be a fresh one
Ah ok, then you can probably format the entire thing as APFS and use that
sorry what does APFS mean?
will that allow me to record ProRes Log footage onto it?
Apple Filesystem or something, it’s a drive format, like NTFS or ExFAT
Not too sure, it depends on if iPhones can read and write APFS, which I’d assume they do, but you’ll wanna verify
i see
If the drive is large enough, you should be able to record pro res log, to it.
If you open disk utility on your mac, and go to view > show all devices, you can select your external drive and press add volume group.
It’s like partitioning, but better as the different "groups" will share the space, so you don't have to set a specific size for each group like you would with partitioning.
However, I don't know how you can set your phone to record to a specific volume group (in the files app, they should appear as separate devices when the drive is conneted), so you might have to move the files each time to keep things organized between your backups and your recordings.
i see.
im pretty sure blackmagic lets me pick where to record to
