- We don’t know, but for a 15 hopefully not too long
- No
- Your choice, they’re both the same process, but it’s recommended to keep it connected to a charger during the update
about my 2nd question, doesn't it show somewhere in battery settings that indexing process is going on? I've seen that somewhere i think
I don't think so, I'm not fully sure tho
You could check for this

I hate discord embeds they take up so much space lol
- Anywhere from a few hours to a week
- No
- No difference
As long as it gets done, the current version you’re on is very out of date
iOS 17.5.1 is a very old version of iOS so it's recommended to update to iOS 18.4. To answer your questions:
- It will take anywhere between 1-7 days
- No, but in the Battery settings it will show a section saying "Update Finishing In Background". It doesn't tell you when it'll finish though.
- Personal preference, both update the same way. Update Now installs the update immediately, Update Tonight will download and prepare the update before it installs while your phone isn't being used while locked, on wifi, and plugged in or has enough battery
yep i know. well it won't take long for indexing etc i assume since i don't use much storage on my phone
-
okay so when that thing disappears it means that everything has finished and my phone should be completely back to normal right?
-
If i have automatic updates and automatic install enabled and plug my phone all night will it update or do i also have to press the "update tonight"?
- I assume if that disappeared, your phone should be back to normal performance and battery.
- Automatic updates will work, but sometimes you might have to wait weeks for certain updates to install as Apple does a slow rollout (this may take quicker if your iOS is super out of date). Manually checking for updates will give you the newest version immediately and will give you options to update now or update tonight.
And since you're using iOS 17.5.1, you should update asap.
yep i will tonight. btw do you know if updating iOS drops your battery health? some people say they lose 1-2 bh after updating ios
Updating iOS will not drop battery health, but it will recalibrate/update the percentage shown in Settings.
oh so that means that now I might have less bh than what it shows?
Not true. Your battery health will remain the same. But if the number drops after updating, it means that your battery health was going down way before the update, but it was showing less accurate numbers before.
You shouldn't worry about battery health unless it's in the low 80's or below.
yes so now if it shows let's say 98 it might not be accurate and i might have 97 or 96 but after recalibrating after ios update it will show it right?
If the battery health shows 98% in Settings, and the actual health is around 95%, updating iOS might update the health in Settings to be more accurate.
yes. well that's how some people still have 100% with 300 cycles. it's just not accurate
i see now
Depends on phone use, but unless your battery health is in the low 80s or below, you shouldn't have to worry about it
Updating your iOS will not harm battery health in any way.
If your battery health goes below 80% it will display a message recommending a battery replacement.
yep i see thank you. one last question. is the update ios indexing process the same as when you first buy and setup an iphone? which is doing some processes for like a day?
yep. when that happens it will be bad cause here there are no official or apple authorized shops that replace your battery
usually it's pretty similar, but the process will usually take anywhere from a few hours to a week. If you notice a drop in battery or performance, it will improve after this process finishes.
oh okay
guys something very weird is going on. it took only like 5 minutes to install when i clicked "install now" and it isn't lagging at all plus i don't think it does any indexing cause there are no messages about indexing on battery settings.
not complaining but just looks weird cause everyone has been saying that it has to index and it will take at least a day and even up to a week and it will lag and battery will go down fast so it seems weird for me
