I did that though but the steps are confusing, i had to wait 24 hours and it wanted me to enter the iforgot.apple.com website and login but I couldn’t do that since it’s the account im trying to recover

Someone on Reddit told me that I didn’t need to login apparently but they didn’t tell me how

We don't help with account recovery here, your best bet is Apple Support. You may also be able to send a code to your phone number assuming you still have access to the phone number linked to your apple account

Go to https://icloud.com/find and login (only needs user/password) and click into your old iPhone and click “Remove”
