Hello, I'm a French student, I bought an Macbook Air M2 (with 8Go) in april 2024 for my studies.
I was and I am still very happy of my purchase, but later in the year, Apple upgraded the base model from 8Go to 16Go. So that's why I'm wondering if it's better if I sell my Mac, bought the M4 base model, or if it's note absolutly useful.

My batterie life is still at 100% batterielife, it runs less or more exigent program (Davinci Resolves and videogames such as Minecraft or else). But like the base model is not at 16Go I wonder if in the future, my Mac will still value de the cost.
I want to stay with my mac the most of time possible because it's not an purchase of everyday, and above all I don't really want to add money to my Mac. So I don't really know what to do...
Buy an M4 Macbook Air, buy a macmini for exigent tasks + ipad. Do nothing...

The objective is juste to have a mac that I can keep with all the last upgrades for basic use (sometimes hard) (sorry for the language mistakes)

Apple Intelligence might suck even more of that

I think 8GB of RAM finally started taking a toll after Sequoia

#

The only time I would recommend upgrading from an M2 or even M3 model to an M4 is if you're hitting the RAM limits or are getting close to - 8GB is about to become what 4GB was just a few years ago.

#

For most people, it could take a couple of years or even months to hit the limits of 8GB.

#

I think the M4 was the first time I've recommended an Air model in a while.

8GB was dropped back in Oct 2024

I chose 8GB and it was a terrible mistake! Only choose 8GB if you don't need to use a lot of memory intensive apps.
