#MacBook Pro lagging like crazy
63 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Which MacBook Pro model is this happening on? Also what version of macOS are you running?
A regular MacBook Pro
What is the specific model? Go to the Apple logo, then click "About This Mac", you should find it there
Sequoia 15.3.1
Alrighty, what about the Mac model?
Oh so the 13 inch MacBook Pro, have you tried restarting it?
Yes
Problem kept reoccurring
And I updated too
Does it happen with certain apps or everything across the system?
Everything
If you go to Activity Monitor, is there any specific apps using more resources?
This is what the app looks like, it is built in to macOS
Alrighty, nothing seems abnormal. Try heading over to the “CPU” tab
WindowsServer is finicky
I’ve seen it jump alll over the place
When I open Excel it gets worse
Maybe cuz of the number of apps open
Yeah, I've heard of that being a CPU hog for some people. I'm not entirley sure, but I think the more app windows you have open, the higher the CPU usage for windowserver will be
I've had thi smany windows open before and never had a problem until today
Hm, weird. Let me see if @runic locust may know what could be going on
So Jim, this user is having an issue where their MacBook Pro is lagging, but they are on the latest software version. Nothing looks unusual in their Activity Monitor either.
The device is a 14 inch MacBook Pro (M2 Pro)
Oh that isn't good. Is it overheating by chance?
No. Fans aren’t blowing
Alright, I'm not sure what could be the cause. Let's see if Jim responds, he may have a better idea than I do.
One more thing, if you close Chrome, does everything go back to being smooth?
Is Chrome up-to-date by chance?
Here's something we can do, try clearing out your Chrome cache: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/32050?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop
When you use a browser, like Chrome, it saves some information from websites in its cache and cookies. Clearing them fixes certain problems, like loading or formatting issues on sites. In Chrome
Clearing the cache rn
Still slow
Clearing cookies and download history
Still slow
I’m not sure then
Alrighty
Also try finding your login items in settings and disabling unnecessary items
Forget where it’s at tho
my problems are back

shoot
Try this
And also try to move everything from chrome to safari :D
why does everyone think it's Chrome
well I deleted my history and my login and it STILL isn't fixing the problem
it's not a storage problem either - I have well over 100GB free
Chrome is RAM hog usually, but from the Activity Monitor, it doesn't show anything unusual.
@native wraith Do you have any ideas for why this users Mac could be lagging?
I’m at the Genius Bar rn
Oh, well hopefully they resolve the issue
I concur
The Genius Bar person does think software is overclocking the RAM
