i'd like to watch youtube videos on my 8th gen ipad, but the youtube app says i need to update it. however, in the app store the update requires iOS 15 or later. the popup that says i can download the last compatible version doesn't work, it just repeats that popup over and over again when i press download.

so i went into software updates and it allowed me to download the ipadOS 18.3 update, but when i press install now it says it's unable to install it. when i press retry the same thing happens.

is there a way to get this to work, or at least update my ipad to ipadOS 15, 16 or 17?

Also, there is no way to update to anything other than iPadOS 18. Apple does not allow you to upgrade to iPadOS 15, 16, or 17, and you also cannot revert to the previous version of iPadOS once you upgrade.

I'd also recommend getting a new iPad with more storage if you can as 32 GB wasn't enough in 2020 and is basically unusable in 2025.

try updating it through a windows computer with the apple devices app or on a mac with finder
