#iOS18 photos indexing taking forever

I rely on search within the photo app very often, as I search for a location (city or region) to find a lot of specific information tied to that place.

I have over 1000 pictures shot in Tokyo, but when I search for the city it only has about 34 location hits, and the rest is just images with the text “Tokyo” in it

It says at the bottom that the gallery is still indexing, and I hope when that’s finished it’ll fix everything. I updated more than 24h ago and with 20,000 pictures it’s still not done? I feel like iOS 17 already had a pretty good indexing, can’t I just go back to using that?

Hi there
Yes you can always go back to using IOS 17 by downgrading using a computer
However for the indexing
You should leave your device idle, charging and left overnight so the indexing finishes up as it’s got a lot a lot of photos to index
iOS 17 was good to pretty search up some photos yes
But iOS 18 has a more advanced search now so Yh it takes a while

Thank you for your reply. I’m noticing that the more I leave it untouched the more photos show up when searching, so it really is just a matter of time. Still not done btw.
