@charred turret, @merry berry What does that mean by 'depth effect' ?
This is for the clock on the lock screen, so the object on the photo goes behind it if you know what I mean 😀
Umm you mean like the clock goes behind the object right ?
Like this one ?
Ah sorry yeah, the clock goes behind the object. I'm at work and didn't read what I typed lol
Yep
I believe it has to be at a fixed resolution in order for it to engage. Haven't researched this that deep yet so I'm not exactly sure what's triggering it.
It's alright. I'll search on the internet. I'll see what can I do..
Will do some research on this today and report back.
Yeah I think the trick is in the resolution and that's it. Could be DPI too.
Yeah I think so. Alright, I got it. Thanks for the information 😇 👍
@charred turret Can I get your phone model please ?
I need to know your phone model to make sure the wallpaper is gonna fit properly @charred turret
Check my roles
@raw marsh 13
Ahh didn't check it sorry.. 😁
@charred turret You may check if it fits properly on your device. Let us know if there's any problems..
Doesn't it show the depth effect option ?
No
Just give me some more time. I'm in scl rn. I'll check it for sure...
@charred turret Could you check this one ?
No wayyy
😭
I haven't created a depth effect wallpaper before. I'll look into more and see what I can do...
Ok, thanks for trying.
@merry berry I think I need help..
My pleasure.. 👍
Was a bit busy yesterday, will look into it asap!
Did you create a depth map and background depth?
And the subject must be just a bit to the Center
I think no. I didn't do any one those things. So what I just did is I just created a transparent layer on Photoshop with the iPhone 13 resolutions als the PPI. And then adjusted the wallpaper into the new canvas resolutions. After, I used Generative AI to fill those empty areas. So that's what I did pretty much...
Doing this would only make the image fit well to the screen but not generating that depth effect
Busy atm could give you a rough idea
So uh pick your resolution to use
So add your image as normal resze if needed then select the subject in this case spderman and then select and mask it give it a bit of refinements just define the edges a bit then separate the subject so it’s on a new layer cmd j
As for the background you can blur it if you wish to make the main subject stick out a bit more
But be sure that the Spider-Man which is the subject pops out a bit more and is a lil bit centered to the canvas / background
Hopefully that should work if that doesn’t work
Might as well just get home and try other steps
Ahh appreciate that. I'll try...
@charred turret Can you check this time ?
I added a depth map, a bit of background blur and some more light adjustments...
It should work now..
I have the 13 and we don’t have the option for it anymore not even for a photo of a person!
Doesn't the depth effect feature work on iPhone 13 ?
Last I checked it does with incoming calls with contact photos
What about lock screen ?
I’m still trying to figure it out but here is what the contract portrait looks like
But it does work right ?
Only when the iPhone recognizes the photo as a person, so Spider-Man is not seen as a person so it doesn’t work
@raw marsh Bad news, that image doesnt work
More Bad news, its actually alot more complicated than that
Did a lot more digging now for that depth effect, its got to do with the metadata eg,Normally when you actually take a photo of something and it has a depth effect its cos some depth information has been captured by the cameras and stored in the Image. However this spiderman image doesnt have any form of depth information. And so im trying to manually add the depth information to the metadata of the image but IOS isnt still recongnising it, ive gone as far as using pre-trained Models to generate the depth and metadata, then adding it to the image but IOS still doesnt recognise the depth information
IOS usually recognises the depth information if the photo is mainly in PORTRAIT and the spiderman image doesnt seem to be in portrait. my theory is to make the spiderman photo a potrait then maybe the IOS system would recognise it
But I saw on the internet it does cover other main objects that appear to be more focused on wallpapers...
Mmmm let me look into something
That sounds way complex. But how do I make it a portrait ? Isn't it in portrait ?
Alr thanks..👍
The spiderman pic isnt portrait-styled image thats why theres no depth information for IOS to read, for that image.
Ahh , subject in focus and close enough
Here’s another (pixels are bad in some spots)
What if the subject(Spider-Man) zooms into forward ?
As long as the subject is in focus thats good already
Yes that could work, his head to be precise it needs to be in focus correctly
Hmmm
Sadly the one that is the subject starter picture does not become depth focus, I have tried multiple times
I've never touched on this depth effect subject before. This is the first ever time I'm doing it...
And it’s proved to be quite a challenge haha
Depth Effects should be a button option or when you go to editing, it should be an option to make the image a depth effect. You could make anything depth, a pet, a flower, a cabin, a vehicle, a group of friends or your fav Marvel character.
It is..
You mean the depth effect button on the lock screen wallpaper settings ?
I don't have a phone so I don't really know
@charred turret you photo you chose won’t Depth Effect however this one will. When you find a Spider-Man with his face in front instead of his foot, it should DE
Yes but I mean a DE button that forces the image to become DE
Still doesn’t work
The photo itself is the problem
I’ve made it even a portrait photo still the depth information is missing
Daaaaamn
pretty frustrating ik
Interesting in the same way...
@loud sparrow Did you try to zoom in and focus on the head area ?
Yeah i did, same result not working, im still trying though
Hmm hm
I just came home but can't access the computer yet.
This is interesting, even with the depth mapping, the image above doesn't work for me. @tulip flume could it be due to the DPI settings of the image? This was my first thought.
I think it’s because the system is picking up SpiderMan’s foot first and not the face.
See the difference in the depth perception
I still think it has to do something with the depth.
@raw marsh try applying this one.
The Spider-Man image with the foot has no depth information at all in its metadata for iOS to read at all , the rest of the images Claude-7 cayde posted had got it
And it’s libel cos of how Spider-Man is positioned his foot sticking out that way rather than his head being the main focus
Could anyone make the background night? 👀
Oh, right, the metadata. Sadly I haven't had a chance today at all.
Sam is AFK: Going to work , chat later - 28 minutes ago
I did this part...
Here's my PS file if anyone wants to see the way I did it..
I’m not sure how to do the whole photoshop thing or I would add the nighttime to the picture
Ohh I can do that
I didn't see the msg
But I won't be able to do right now. I have to go to sleep cus I gotta go scl early tmr 🙃
You can try though..
I tried to make it a night mode but it doesn't look accurate with the sun's reflections on the building and also the Spider-Man skin...
Ok
I’ll tag this post as “On Hold” and I’ll get to it as soon as I have more free time.
@raw marsh I’m watching some videos, working with depth mapping, it’s for sure not something as easy as changing the brightness 😅
Daamn you're still working on it ? I dunno what to do for it. Did you find a way to do it ?
Not yet, no rush though. We’ll learn one day haha 😂
Hell yeah 🤣
Any update
Not yet buddy. This will probably take more time.
If this is too hard you can just close it. It’s not a big deal.
It’s a challenge that’ll be done, eventually. No time frame at this moment as there’s other stuff around the server that need to be done.
If anyone’s willing give it a try, they’re more than welcome to 🤓
Maybe we can pin this post as well so anyone can see it...
We can only have 1 pinned post and that one is an example post. Members can always sort by a tag.
Hmm makes sense 👍
