How to check if the cable is good? Not too sure.
I have never revived a Mac’s firmware, so I’m not to sure how that goes.

Ok. Your saying the Mac isn’t reading it with that particular cable, so it probably doesn’t like it for whatever reason.
I’m not too sure why that’s be the case.
Unless it’s data transfer speeds aren’t fast enough

It can have fast charging speeds, but that’s not data transfer speeds.
That’s two different things
You may need to try a different cable, if not you can contact Apple Support. They could definitely fix that.
