Desktop does not work

my macbook desktop is completely non functional, i cant add files to it, my icons are gone, right click or anything. i tried updating, closing and reopening finder, restarting and nothing works

Completely shutdown the Mac using the power button

But did you hold down a power button? There’s a difference between just clicking the Apple logo and pressing shutdown/restart and holding the power button

Holding down the power button completely shuts down everything and anything running

ok so i finally got a chance to shut it down and its still behaving the same

Do you have Stage Manager on? That could cause items on the Desktop to disappear.
