A few questions for you amyHappy

  1. What kind of work do you plan to do at Uni (graphical work, development, video, etc?)
  2. Do you have a budget range for us to work off of?
  3. Any unique requirements / or things you care most about (bigger screen, need multiple monitors, etc?)

Base model M3 Air should do you well (M1 or M2 if you want to save money). If you’re going to be doing intense apps such as lots of video editing, heavy, heavy multitasking, etc, you may want to spec up to 16GB of unified memory. If you’re really going to be super super intense apps, you can get the M3 MacBook Pro (unlikely you’ll need M3 Pro MacBook Pro). But keep in mind that the Airs these days are very capable

I mean the only difference is that the M2 MacBook Pro has 2 more cores of GPU which shouldn’t make a difference unless you’re doing graphic design or 3d modeling and that stuff. It also has a bigger battery, but at the same time it’s already 2 years old, so the M3 may last you longer.

But keep in mind that the Airs these days are very capable. I just got the completely basic M3 Air and I use it for tons of things, but mostly Xcode coding and it’s perfect

In short, the M1 and M3 have faster SSD speeds than the M2. The M3 is 60% faster than the M1 and about 20% faster than the M2. M3 will last the longest because it’s the most recent
