remove a gmail address used for my Apple ID but switch the main email to a iCloud email

So I created a iCloud email with this Apple ID and I’m trying to change the main email to the iCloud one created with this Apple ID. Is this even possible?

Yes that’s possible. Go to https://appleid.apple.com, sign in, click on Apple ID, and then enter a new email address to be your Apple ID email

This doesn’t matter, I switched to Proton Mail and could change it immediately later on the same day

I don’t think you can set an iCloud email you made under the same Apple ID account possibly due to an event where you get locked out so you can’t reset your password?

That’s my guess.

Apple requires iCloud email addresses to be 30 days old. Just because you can do what you want with every other email on the planet, apple controls iCloud. They can set the rules on when it can be used as an Apple ID alias.
