# stable dust what exactly does mapzoomin and mapzoomout do? i've been playing around with it,...

mapzoomin

mapzoomin should allow you to set how much you can zoomin beyond the native 1x resolution. each additional zoom level is twice as zoomed in as the previous one.

examples

if you set it to 1, youll have 1x (native) and 2x (#1)
if you set it to 2, youll have 1x , 2x, and 4x (#2)
if you set it to 3, youll have 1x, 2x, 4x, and 8x (#3)
if you set it to 4, youll have 1x, 2x, 4x, 8x, and 16x (#4)
...
if you set it to 7, youll have 1x, 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x, 32x (#5), 64x (#6), and 128x (#7)
...

keep in mind that these are zoom in levels, aka, youre getting closer, so having 7 zoom in levels is way overkill

#

mapzoomout

i believe mapzoomout should do the opposite. you're specifying how many levels you can zoom out beyond the native resolution (1x)

examples

set it to 1 for 1x (native) and 1/2x (#1)
set it to 2 for 1x (native), 1/2x, and 1/4x (#2)
...
set it to 7 for 1x, 1/2x, 1/4x, 1/8x (#3), 1/16x (#4), 1/32x (#5), 1/64x (#6), and 1/128x (#7)
...

these are zoom out levels, so now it may make more sense to have 7 levels to fit large areas on the screen

#

combine these settings to set the total available zoom levels.

example

mapzoomin: 3
mapzoomout: 6

gives you

   Z O O M O U T I N
1 2 3 4 5 6 1 2 3
1/64, 1/32, 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1, 2, 4, 8x
#

i derived this from the explanation on the wiki and haven't tested it, so let me know if i was wrong 😂

as a quick sanity check, if you use 0 for both values, you shouldn't be able to zoom in or out at all. youd be stuck at 1x, always

so if i set mapzoomin: 3 and mapzoomout: 6, i can't zoom 9x from min to max

right, you can't do 9x, it's always a power of 2

stable dust
#

What do you mean exactly? every 2 steps generates a new zoom?

maybe i didnt understand your question right- each new zoom level is either double or half the previous one
