I'd recommend opening it up and cleaning it if your out of warranty, if not just clean it from the outside and the hard drive part.

It will stay exactly the same, it will create a copy of everything on your ps4 and delete the old one and clean up any corrupted files in the process

Just don't click initialize ps4, that will delete everything
