Yes this is true. But India is full of all different scammers who try and scam tourist. This is not a stereotype its just the truth. Not all Indian people scam tourists but the country is know for that. They may not succeed all the time, but they still attempt it. Also local vendors just tell tourists to throw your rubbish on the floor aswell. It's sad to see but they still do it.

Some try forcing you to take stuff from them and say its free, then proceed to request money after you take it and try and force you to pay them, even though they said its free.
