Yeah, guides aren't focused on how interested the player is. They're vague on purpose because they expect you to want to play the game a certain way. What you could do is take the instruction to "do this" with a grain of salt and if anything peaks your interest, you can look into it further. What I do is straight up ignore guides altogether and I do my own research depending on what it is I'm interested in. I enjoy putting in the work but can't stand the idea of needing to make repeating payments so I make decisions based on that.

Suggestions are a good start but they don't take your interests into account. Play styles are all different and what works for some may not work for others. For a new player especially, I really think they should figure out how they want to play this sandbox instead of numerous suggestions to doing something they may not want to do.
