The staff at your salvage yard allows you one extra staff. which means 2 extra car can be salvaged at once

This also helps woth your tier 4 reward, which is definitely worth it

Yes, there may be some characters who do play an important role in setting you up for starting up businesses/heists, but the focus is not on them, it's on the online character.

So yes, I would still play GTAO, regardless of any story mode character being involved in online.

Personally I think people sort of care. Especially after hearing how much people wanted Davey in the DLC. And other stuff that is crazy imo is that people care abt GTA VAs a lot. And recently when Kai invited Franklin and he called CJ, with CJ saying his iconic line. That thing hit the news. Ned Luke announces or does something on the internet, it hits the news. I mean, don't get me wrong, I got excited to see Franklin come back from story mode to online, and see that he's become this entrepreneur with the agency business, when about 8 years ago, he was just another hustler. As far as I can tell, story mode is amazing, and I'm ashamed to have been playing online for 3 to 4 years, and not really progress at all on story mode. Though, to be fair, GTA 5 is the first Rockstar game I've ever played. I do prefer the online experience, because you can build up your own character, who may not be able to speak, but can definitely make it big in the city of Los Santos.

GTA Vice City was my start, imo it is the ideal start. Set in the 1980s classy music. Kinda perfect. You get some idea on how GTA 6 will feel like

GTA SA - Real upgrade and deserves to be played. Some features even modern games don't have

GTA 4 - Really good. One of the most dark GTA stories yet somewhat fun to play. You'll have to sometimes force yourself to be consistent with it as it isn't immersive like RDR2 is where you want to keep playing. There are periods where it does get boring but if you are consistent, one of the best games

GTA 5 - Great Gameplay. Cool Story. Nothing too good about the story in particular but really enjoyable. Different from the others in a way as it didn't really have a direct moral.
