#Reinstall Packs in Tuner makes packs disappear from in-game menu

Possibly bc I had both Vanilla RTX 130 & 150 installed (but ofc only 150 was active).
Also the old tuned pack might not be uninstalled properly by the Tuner.

Full & maybe unnecessary lengthy recap:
When running both Vanilla RTX and BetterRTX 1.4, the fog is way too thick.

  1. Couple of weeks ago, I used Tuner to make the fog thinner;
    At first it worked fine as I tuned down the value bit by bit;
    Down to 0.1, fog was too thin so I tuned back up to 0.3 and even 1.0, but it seemed no longer changing as the fog was still very thin;
    I thought it might be broken so I just left it there.

  2. Today, I uninstall old Tuner then install new version;
    Locate Vanilla RTX found both 130 & 150 versions;
    Reinstall Lasted Packs, load the world and the red error message appears;
    In Storage menu, both VRTX packs disappeared, but other packs intact.

  3. Install VRTX 150 manually, packs are back in Storage, but the red message persists.

  4. Relaunch the Tuner, Locate finds two VRTX 150s and a VRTX Normals. I never installed Normals before;
    Again, Reinstall Latest Packs using Tuner, pack disappeared from Storage, red message persists;
    Also the fog gets thin, as if the old tuned pack of fog multiplier 0.1 is running.

  5. Install VRTX 150 manually, fog is thick again.
    Sometimes red message won't show for the 1st time of loading a world after game launch. But exit world and load again, the message returns.

Tuner is only meant to for Vanilla RTX 1.21.150+

Besides that, it can only remember a single instance of the pack.

If multiple versions are detected, it is likely the one that was detected later is the one actually getting passed down for Tuning -- the version detected before that gets ignored (even though it logs "Found ✅")

The best thing you can do right now is to delete up all Vanilla RTX packs using in-game settings, then use the tuner to reinstall the latest packages.

I delete Vanilla RTX & Normals directly in game installation folder, as they are not shown in Storage menu. Then install 150 manually and things back to normal.

However, now without 130 installed, Reinstall Pack using Tuner still causes the same issue:

  • Packs not shown in Storage
  • Red error message
  • Both VRTX & VRTX Normals installed
  • Fog is thin (or maybe completely disabled, I can't tell) in contrast to the thick fog of manually installed pack
    I also reinstall Tuner but the issue persists.

Fog tuning is still quirky: If I tune from 1.0 to 0.7, check in-game effect and tune again to 0.5, the fog is much thinner than what I'd get if go straight from 1.0 to 0.5.
Kinda not surprising since the thick fog itself is apparently a bug (and prolly on BRTX or game side rather than VRTX) and sth. tuning alone cannot solve.

Anyway I'm happy with the tuned down fog and without any error message. I really like the idea of Tuner. Thanks for the great work and look forward to future updates!

Pack updater was completely redone in 1.1, do you still have issues?

(re)installing the latest version of the pack using 1.1 will delete all previous instances of Vanilla RTX before installing the new one
It should be working correctly, are you sure the game is closed while you use the app? (it should be, launch the game only after you're finished with Tuner)

Yes, I always close the game before doing anything with Tuner.
I don't quite get wdym by "Pack updater was completely redone in 1.1".
I've been using 1.1.9.0. I checked GitHub just now and saw no new release. I did find a 1.1.0.0_Test and tried it. But the issues are the same.

Besides, maybe worth noting that, in "resource_packs" of game installation folder, the manually installed pack (downloaded from CurseForge) has the folder name "pack.name", while the Tuner-installed ones are named "VanillaRTX" & "VanillaRTXNormals".

Folder names are irrelevant.
Tuner should look into your RP folder, find root of all RPs (where manifest resides) if manifests have matching unique identifiers to Vanilla RTX, they get nuked out before latest pack installs.

Where are you getting the red error in? Realm, server?

Just in my offline single-player worlds.
I did some more tests:

  1. Install curseforge pack, and make a backup of the "pack.name" folder;
  2. Run Tuner reinstallation, "pack.name" nuked, "VanillaRTX" & "VanillaRTX Normals" added, and get all those issues, iclud. thin/disabled fog;
  3. Using Windows File Explorer, copy all content from the "pack.name" folder backup, into "VanillaRTX" and choose replace everything in destination, all issues persist;
  4. Using Windows File Explorer, delete "VanillaRTX" folder, and move the the "pack.name" folder backup into "resource_packs", pack shows up in game menu as inactivated, I can activate it and get the thick fog back. However red message persists.
  5. Delete "VanillaRTX Normals", red message gone, everything (seems) back to normal.
    Folder name seems to affect nothing as you said.

I guess maybe Tuner itself is running fine, except the unwanted Normals getting added, but the pack content it downloads is causing issues. I notice some files in it have different file size than the curseforge pack.

There are all the packs I'm using
