May be a me issue
Running linux opensuse with NVIDIA GTX 1660S and 4 x AMD Ryzen 3 2200G

It either is me making a mistake, which is very likely, or it doesnt want to start
After downloading alvr_launcher_linux.tar.gz, i cant seem to run the ALVR Launcher, it doesnt give any error or anything, just doesnt begin at all in the first place

Im not exactly tech knowledgable yet to figure out why it doesnt seem to want to execute

But currently cant get past this point

I know this arch but it sounds like maybe you’re missing a dependency

ember shell
#

I eventually found out by trying to force run it through konsole that it seems to not be able to find these

mighty basalt
#

means your environment is not sane

#

run it in a normal environment, not whatever custom thing you have

#

or maybe you have very old linux and dont update?

#

glibc package should definitely be there, everything uses it

ember shell
#

I've gotten round to updating my linux, as i did actually find out its rather outdated indeed

#

Still a lil ways away from being complete but if the alvr works or not after the update i'll mention it here

ember shell
#

Got everything to work but there's one problem;
The streamer keeps constantly connecting and disconnecting

mighty basalt
#

reboot everything then try again

ember shell
#

Also the quest 3 is frozen atm

mighty basalt
#

reboot headset as well

#

make sure alvr version on headset matches version on pc

#

use the alvr pc launcher install apk function

ember shell
#

Stuffs rebooting rn

#

Both seem to be the same version

#

V20.11.1

#

Install apk function mentions this

mighty basalt
#

run "adb devices" in terminal

#

and have headset plugged in via cable and authorised

ember shell
#

Ah via cable

mighty basalt
#

u can do it via wireless as well but needs extra setup

#

so long as it shows up as authorised device it will work

ember shell
#

Well it found it earlier but it kept connecting and disconnecting constantly

mighty basalt
#

thats probably firewall or network related

#

pc must use ethernet not wifi

ember shell
#

Runs ethernet

#

Dunno how to run adb devices btw

#

Im not familiar with many commands

mighty basalt
#

open terminal

#

and type adb devices

#

without it you cant install apks

ember shell
#

Well it seems to not be able to find it

#

So where would i aquire or find these adb devices

mighty basalt
#

its part of android tools

ember shell
#

Hmm, downloaded it, gonna give it a restart to see if it gets it this time around

#

Nope

#

Still says
"ADB install failed: adb: no devices/emulators found"

#

Is there a certain place i need to put the android tools files?

#

Though it seems to be in the right place, platform-tools folder is next to the installations folder in the ALVR-Launcher folder

#

I see in the logs of ALVR
'Client disconnected. Cause: Broken pipe (os error 32)'

mighty basalt
#

u need to run adb devices to start it

#

follow troubleshooting guide

ember shell
#

I dont see anything there about broken pipe or whatever

#

Also i tried to run the adb executable via konsole but i dunno what to do with that
It does do something but i dont know what

#

Just seems to be a explaination about what it is and what not

#

Dont find any session.json either or whatever

#

Dont understand it

#

Completely removed ALVR and redownloaded it and well, still that ADB problem that i dont understand

#

Okay i messed around and it is streaming now
But my screen in the headset is black

#

It seems if I display vr view on my pc, it tracks just fine

#

It just isnt showing it on my headset itself

#

Says not connected on ALVR dashboard in that meantime

#

Yeah it seems to be working in terms of connecting and actually sending data of what im doing to steam vr, if i open the vr view on my pc i can see im in the steam vr home and i can move around and do everything

But ALVR says the headset is disconnected and it wont stream it to my headset

#

Gonna do a restart of both devices rn to see if that helps

#

It seemed to have messed it up again

#

Back to steam vr trying to find the headset and controllers and ALVR constantly connecting and disconnecting

#

Some help or explaination would be nice because im not good at this stuff

#

Allright i got it to do stuff again
It says streaming and i can see the vr view via computer

#

But again, headset screen is black

#

Like i can do whatever really
But the screen in vr stays black which is very frustrating

mighty basalt
#

show ur steamvr custom launch options

#

as mentioned in guide

#

coz without those u get black screen

ember shell
#

Where do i see that

#

I dont see that stuff in the guide i got my hands on

#

If its this what do i fill in even

ember shell
#

Well i dunno what now

#

Require some info on what to write there

ember shell
ember shell
#

Ping me whenever ig

mighty basalt
#

this is not an optional step

ember shell
#

Well it returned back to displaying the os error 32 problem

#

Cant get it to connect like yesterday

#

Also constantly makes my headset freeze

#

Forcing me to reboot

ember shell
#

still got this problem btw with os error 32, will stream for 2 seconds, then disconnect, then it will stream again for 2 secs and disconnect, and this is on a infinite loop.

ember shell
#

Well i been looking through other people's posts, seems i need to set up firewall rules but thing is every time i click add firewall rules it says it failed
And removing rules it says its successfull, but despite that it still mentions error 32

#

Also imma change name of the thread since its not about alvr not starting, its about error 32

#

How to solve OS error 32..?

#

Will tomorrow probs look through firewall config and see if anything alvr related in there

#

If nothing fixes it then im abit lost
But thats a problem for tomorrow

ember shell
#

I cant find ALVR in the list of known services in my firewall settings

#

Some help with this would be nice

ember shell
#

Still kinda just waiting i guess..

mighty basalt
#

just turn your firewall off
