#alvr keeps disconnecting and reconnecting

These logs suggest a libcurl mismatch. I would recommend reinstalling these correctly to prevent those error reappearing!
You have an ambient cap error
sudo /home/felix/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/SteamVR/bin/linux64/vrcompositor-launcher
chmod +x /home/felix/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/SteamVR/bin/linux64/vrcompositor-launcher
sudo apt-get install [dependencies]
These commands will elevate your permissions, will check you have correct perms for running SteamVR and etc, and finally seeing if there are any missing dependencies during app execution! (Also make sure Steam is up to date: steam --version && steam -update
@visual void
Remind me your OS
So I don't give incorrect commands
Alright!
Those should work
replace [dependencies] with the name of the ones you need to reinstall!
Your log had a lot of output
I am currently going through it
Sorry?
oh lol
Chatgpt has a tendency to.... not be that well versed in specifics such as this
I tend to search forum posts
never hurts to go the extra step
If chatgpt could answer all technical queries correctly with fixes, there would be no point in this thread existing!
Also, it costs money
You have errors also relating to GTK themes
Something to do with adwaita
sudo apt-get install gtk2-engines
sudo apt-get install --reinstall arc-theme
sudo apt-get install libcef
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
To do with the GTK2 engine
You have installed incorrect sRGB profiles!
Normally not an issue. Annoying if it does popup though.
So that part of the log indicates issues with GTK themes, so a crashed virtual reality application! libpng warnings (related to your sRGB profiles), and missing shared libraries. Those commands should remedy this particular fault!
The libcef.so library specifically!
I am unsure how you went about installing this OS, but it appears you have some major issues here that could probably be solved by doing a fresh install rather than 101 different random commands that may not work!
Lots of missing files or files that don't have sufficient admin privileges to be executed!
Have you spoken to Axel or Plyshka?
They are the most well versed with these particular applications on Linux. Plysh develops ALVR for them after all!
Might be a simpler fix than what I am reading, however unlikely.
It appears you may have skipped some steps during OS install and application setup?
You could try.... Ubuntu?
🙂
Fair enough, sleep well!
Here is the output!
Which method are you using - standard port forwarding or the more complex USB connection...
the USB method has a bunch of different steps that just seems pointless if you have a good enough wi-fi connection!
You have already done this once, not sure this would make much difference.
Elevating your privileges should allow those errors to stop being outputted
As for handshake error, just be on the latest ALVR version
20.6 patched that issue to my knowledge!
Though on Linux.... can be a bit more complex
I am pretty sure handshake error doesn't make it unusable
as for the other errors.... not sure
I would recommend keeping your wi-fi on
Ah... I had that pop up on mine once and it just probably reconnected and then worked
fair enough
I think they went to sleep... the issue appears to be missing files and/or files that don't have sufficient privileges for them to execute in application
That can be rectified quite easily (in Windows at least, on Linux enabling sudo should sort it?)
Installing the missing files and bob's your uncle...! I'd think anyway
Some relating to GTK2 engine and libcurl
From a brief read of that log
That was it: missing shared libraries
"vrwebhelper" application is unable to find the "libcef.so" library
the third command I listed here should resolve that one!
Didn't consider this!
The error would suggest this hasn't happened?
That is rather annoying
I suppose doing it through system is a more risky way of fixing something like this?
Comparable to making edits to the registry editor on Windows!
(I'd assume anyway!)
Their admittance to not following the guide could suggest that they may have done the same on other areas of the setup/DE installation? - Sys32 is auto updated during installation.. so that is fairly standard
A more streamlined method
Do you have the git for it, I could link it to others who find themselves in similar technical upheaval
I must say, this is a very effective method
Very concise, kudos
Sorting updating and uninstallation into one command is also very effective - makes it much less of a headache
A constant bitrate of 400mbps though, that is a hefty ask... most connections struggle to main above 40
at least where i live
I normally pull 100-200 when downloading steam games
internet speed
on ethernet
I'm reading the distrobox page
recommends 350-450mbps for h264 wireless - cabled 700
ah
Speed from headset to app
the standard internet speed test normally pings between 600-700 for me personally. when downloading though, it barely reaches a third of that speed
Alright, well I will leave this here for them @visual void : https://github.com/alvr-org/ALVR/wiki/ALVR-in-distrobox - Have a read through of this when you return, it looks to be an extremely viable and safer method of running the software on Linux!
Having this issue, did anyone fix it?
