Hello! I am looking to get ZMK working on Nuinui's #34 PCB. I've been using the module in Pete's github: https://github.com/petejohanson/niuniu-zmk-module and have also tried with JLW's that Pete forked: https://github.com/josh-l-wang/zmk-jlw-keyboards.

I'm pretty new to ZMK and I haven't set up a new board with it yet, so there is likely a lot for me to learn and I'm hoping this won't be too difficult 🤞 CC: @uneven hazel since we talked about it in 40s

So... that source is likely GPL so not ideal to reference.

#

Let me see if that repo I made was in fact based on latest from nuinui, I'll check out backlog

#

So.. bad news, those were all written for the R1 #34

Aaahhh that makes sense!

I thought maybe, I had just confirmed that they design was planned for nRF52

I appreciate it, Pete!

But I hadn't seen schematics and updated anything.

#

Got a multimeter and some grit?

visual mountain
#

Grit in abundance ~ no on the multimeter...

#

But I can get one and do some leg work if I learn what's up!

High res pics of both sides of the PCB would be a good start.

#

I assume we'll find a similar design with shift registers.

#

I can also ping nuinui to see if they're willing to send schematics. Will do so now.

Hi Res PCB photos

Yup, shift registers as expected.

#

How about close up of the MCU?

#

Also, if you put it into the bootloader, can you get the content of the INFO.TXT that shows up on the mass storage device?

So... that looks very similar, hardware wise

#

Realy question will be what, if any, matrix or pin uses they changed.

#

Yeah, ok, so same-ish bootloader, at least.

#

niuniu is going to ask the PCB designer for details

visual mountain
#

Can't thank you enough, Pete!

#

Hoping to learn more and more, and then be able to help eventually peepolove baby steps

uneven hazel
#

Sent a follow up nudge to niuniu

#

If that doesn't get us anywhere, I can walk you through steps to use a multimeter to probe things.

#

Sweet! Thank you!

I want to see this thing running ZMK, and live vicariously since I didn't pull the trigger on one.

#

Got some details. Will compare with firmware for the r1 #34 and see where to go from here

To assuage any fears, this happened before I had the chance to try flashing anything so it's unrelated to the board definition I wrote.
Maybe something went wrong with the preflashed Vial/QMK jank, maybe I poked the wrong bits with the multimeter...at some point I'll try getting a debugger hooked up to it.
