#Slow speeds with 100m Cat-7 cable

Hello everyone,

I need to run a 100m Ethernet cable between 2 buildings.

I have a 1gbps switch, Cat-7 cable (shielded, rated for 10gbps), with cat-6 wall plates.

With this setup, the max I’m getting is 93mbps at my computer. I should be getting ~350mbps - which I do get with a 10m run of Cat-6 cable, and all the other setup exactly the same. The only diff is the 100m cable.

I thought it could be because the cat-7 cable is still spooled up and maybe causing some sort interference? But then, these cables run in huge trunks.

Ideally I need around 1gbps going through this cable as I’ve got this speed internet coming soon.

What could be the issue? Any advice would be appreciated 🙂

You should really be using fiber at that distance.

Yep, I was planning on getting pre-terminated. Cables. Ideally I would have liked to put my own connectors on so I can get the length just right. I’m planning on getting these for converters.

are both ends auto negotiating to 1gb link speeds ok? id check them regularly, 100m should be fine but i had one run about 30m that kept dropping off 1gb onto 100, so i redone the punchdowns further down the cable (only 1cm or so just to get fresh punches) and its been fine since, 4+ yrs now
