Principles
The purpose of a yearly task list is execution control, not motivation. The list must be verifiable, limited, and tied to real resources.
List structure
Levels
-
Level 1. Year outcomes
- 5–8 major results that must be achieved by the end of the year
-
Level 2. Projects
- Each outcome is split into 1–3 projects
-
Level 3. Definition of done
- Clear conditions under which a project is considered completed
If a point cannot be verified without explanation, it is formulated incorrectly.
Goal formulation
Required elements
- Starting state
- Final measurable result
- Deadline
- Minimum acceptable result
Bad example
- Learn 3D modeling
Working example
- By YYYY-MM-DD, complete 3 finished models with clean topology, ready for printing
Limits
Quantitative
- No more than 8 yearly outcomes
- No more than 3 projects per outcome
- No more than 1 new complex domain per year
Resource-based
- Account for time, money, and energy
- If resources are not specified, the goal is unrealistic
Deadlines
Rules
- All deadlines must be specific dates
- Use intermediate checkpoints every 1–3 months
- Vague wording like by summer or closer to autumn is not allowed
Verifiability
For each item, ask
- Can it be stated unambiguously as done or not done?
If the answer is no, the goal must be rewritten.
Rewards and consequences
Rewards
- Tied strictly to completion
- Defined in advance
- Must not interfere with subsequent goals
Consequences
- Simple and realistic
- For example, canceling a planned purchase or postponing entertainment
Review
Planned
-
Once per quarter
- remove irrelevant items
- adjust deadlines
- reduce scope if overloaded
Forbidden
- Adding new major goals without removing existing ones
Final check
Before approving the list
- Every item has a deadline
- Every item is verifiable
- The yearly scope is realistic
- Each goal answers the question why
If the list fails this check, it is declarative, not operational.

YEARLY GOALS (EXAMPLE)
Goal 1
- Result (verifiable): complete X finished units of output
- Deadline (date): 2026-12-31
- Minimum acceptable completion: X minus 30 percent
- Resources: time 5 hours per week / money low / energy medium
- Reward: purchase Y
- Checkpoint after 3 months (2026-03-31): expected result: 0.25X completed
- Checkpoint after 6 months (2026-06-30): expected result: 0.5X completed
- Checkpoint after 9 months (2026-09-30): expected result: 0.75X completed
- Checkpoint after 12 months (2026-12-31): expected result: X completed
Goal 2
- Result (verifiable): reach value Y on metric Z
- Deadline (date): 2026-10-01
- Minimum acceptable completion: Y minus 20 percent
- Resources: time 3 hours per week / money medium / energy high
- Reward: tool or equipment upgrade
- Checkpoint after 3 months (2026-01-01): expected result: 0.2Y
- Checkpoint after 6 months (2026-04-01): expected result: 0.45Y
- Checkpoint after 9 months (2026-07-01): expected result: 0.7Y
- Checkpoint after 12 months (2026-10-01): expected result: Y
Overall review
- 3 months: on track yes / no
- 6 months: scope adjustment required / not required
- 9 months: risk level low / medium / high
- 12 months: final status completed / not completed

I hope I didn't overdo it with the text...
For people who have decent attention spans, it's fine.
This is a very well structured and formally written template to make plans.
Highlights the right priorities.
