@dusky lily help me
hi ♡ can anyone give advice on those beginners in sketching? where do we start? what are the basics that we need to know? tysm for those who can help, big hug to y'all
uhm there are many ways to start
just try to draw one on one
to the best of your ability
and compare it to the pic
this where you train your eyes to spot mistakes and your technique , hand eyes coordination
or try basic shapes
Hii Anji, i think the best way its do what u like in the beginning
don't demand so much from yourself to avoid fatigue
and gradually introduce the fundamentals
like : perspective, basic proportion, anatomy...
@spring ore
Damn I get it haha, it's beautiful!
Not the best looking but get the job done
I think slightly bigger desk and you are golden for life
I'll be moving out in 6 months so not investing a lot
Be sure to show us too
Gn
You can pretty much start sketching with whatever u want. But from what I can remember, I started sketching people because I wanted to get good with people first. Well... technically I wanted to get good at anime (and somehow I really liked drawing ducks LMAO) because that was obsession until I realized later that to get good at it, u have to learn basics and rules so you can break them. BUT! since we're just talking about starting with sketching and as a beginner, begin with what you want to start practicing the most. I wanted people, so I drew people but I started with faces first because to me, it was the most familiar and also the gateway to eventually drawing a full person. Eventually, you'll move on to things that will support what u're good at like background props which for me, it was just basic perspective and flowers
I love me some flowers/plants to support the backdrops of my sketches.
TL;DR - Begin with what you really wanna draw the most and eventually everything else will come to you the more you do it and the more curious you get (that is, if u end up liking sketching/drawing)
Hey guys! I recently painted this but i feel like i lose so much from the sketch to the final art.. Do you all have any tips?
I like it, but i feel like the sketches always have more movements and life
something i've tried is not trying to get the perfect line or stroke on the actual piece and loosening up a lot more
prioritizing the feel and movement over the accuracy is ironic but it makes it look better in the end
starting out rigid in the begining limits you a lot, since you can always go back and refine it
you could also tilt her head more and let the hair fall more into her shoulders
if you're really hardcore and focused on improvement with a ton of suffering, definitely try drawabox
but if you're highschool or below just focus on practicing what you want to draw and do it for fun not for sole improvement
I feel like the cloth is kind of confusing. At least on her right arm
@spring ore
hey quick question does art include stuffs like Poem, literature and stuff 'cause I mean it is included in the 'Art' category
any NFT artists or collectors?
yes art is art 🙂
guys please keep this channel for art related stuff only, it is very annoying for those trying to use this channel for the right purpose and constantly getting interrupted with something off topic, theres always #general-chat for other topics 😉

I think this is the closest of a tutorial/study about this style, which I think it's all about texture, style and color pallete.
Everything seems so harmonious, the colors are never too strong but not too close to gray.
Textures everywhere, specially on the highlights.
everything looks floaty, the hair and drapery are always "underwater". Of course it's not a rule, but a lot of those illustrations have this, where even though the character is still, there are some floaty elements.
Style can mean storytelling too, which this painter (and the one in the video) are very good at.
When it comes to painting details, Ruan Jia seems to always go with a smaller size than I expect. And it turns out, it makes a whole lot of sense!

I hope it helps

Hey thx buddy it means a lot
you're welcome fren, you can always send progress here
refine the edges, give it some shadow and define the source of light
hmm yeah thats true i havent done anything for the light but for the shadows idk how to do that yet
welp time for another study
this is fking gud
I have about 20 hours in it
It’s not such a good job bc it’s… small
ohhh
for me this looks very beautiful
Ur friend has a great choice and that drawing is just chef's kiss
What about this?
Fanks mate you’re the best
If I decided what the best part is, I’d definitely say it’s the lips, I mean the blending is pretty decent, and the shades and lights are the right way they were
yes this looks so real
And the worst, I think the ears, consider I took as reference a really old picture so most of the time I was just improvising the things
ohh
Anyways I believe it’s good stuff but I still believe it can be way better than that
If you want to know what I mean with way better, just look for this Instagram: heather12ooney
She’s like colored pencil god, I mean the coloring level that I have right now, doesn’t compare not even with the drawing she’s made 5 years ago
is skillshare worth it? Im trying to learn graphic design
bro just use cookies
Do you guys have any tips on moving over to using color
I started line art, or just sketching and then using a stedter marker to trace and add depth
so I want to start experimenting with adding the correct colors and blending
I started to use copic markers for the coloring
Hello, you are all real artist! What a wonderful work you have done! I have always wanted to learnt to draw faces, do you have any channel or tutorial recommendation to start from zero? Thanks 😋
best way to learn is from watching others doing it, personally i use to daily watch a video from Drawholic or Heather Rooney bc for me they're both the best realistic colored pencil artists, but definitely the best tutorials for realism in colored pencils, are the ones of Kristy Partridge, she has literally an extremely detailed tutorial for everything, skin, hair, fur, eyes, lips
to make it easier this are the ones that have helped me the most

these 4 videos are literally all you need to learn to make realistic portraits, at least they were enough for me, and if you want to see different ways to do it, it is not too necessary to watch tutorials, just watch the channels that i already mentioned and pay attention to their technique and process and so try to recreate them
@arctic jetty Whouhhh thanks a lot buddy! They seems super nice the videos, I will love to learnt to draw!
no problem buddy gl
no matter what medium you use, you need to build knowledge on color schemes, hues, and tones. start with making color charts and identifying cool tones vs warm tones, complementary color combos and contrasting colors the copics. Experiment by making your own palette . Doing this will help you design more original and vivd pieces catering to whatever vibe you want your creation wants to have.
can someone help me out on how to do certain form of shading and the best clip studio paint brush?
i think you should add more shadow and have a confidence to show a clear difference between hard and and soft edge, i drew areas which contains shadow in the ref photo (green is like soft shadow and red is definitly a hard edge). I really do recommend this video about quick learn of shadows, i hope you will learn something new ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcCJ2CU-bFw&ab_channel=MarcoBucci

Thanks a lot.
The way I started on faces was learning on particular parts of the face. Such as a video on eyes and a video on ears, lips , everything. And with a bit peactice I started to imitate these styles better. Then after a little practice went onto reference photos. At first they will or will not be what you want. But drawing multiple faces a day allows you to experiment with facial proportions and hair. Here is one example of a face I did
Nose proportion is a bit off but I am still practicing.
something that has helped me, is litterly measuring your reference
sorry for the late reply but holy shit thank u so much
when drawing something like cloth it' should focus more on line quality, so try to add depth by showing variety in the lines. , you can fill in all the shadows u want but the impression you get in your drawings with line is what shows mastery. another thing i would like to add is breaking down your object into simpler shapes. even it sonthing loose like cloth or hair - thry do have mass and volume to them , so think in terms of shapes , break it down and put it together
Where's my juicy apple?
u get an apple🍎for that
Yum
what a waste of time bro I never did that, easily just took the colors of what I want to do and made a replic of them in paper, literally all you're gonna do with what you said is just duplifying your job
the ear looks like an ovni, the nose only has 1 nostril, the surounding of the lips, better known as
lip vermilion, is waaay darker than the color it should be according to the rest of the skin, neck muscles are terribly wrong distributed, and just a question, did you take frozono as reference?
it's not a waste of time, its how people that want to paint "have to" study
what if he wants to paint something that doesn't exist? how would you replicate it? what if you want to paint something with a different pallete/color? with the fundamentals, you can do that with more ease than just guessing
Hmmm do you have any tips how I can fix those mistakes, like a video or what main things to pay attention to. Also no it’s not frozone, it’s is a random model I found on pinterest.
Hello guys, i don't know if im able to share a link to the drawing, but i drew James and felt like sharing it here!
Don't know if rules allow to send an Instagram link
painting, colouring, I just can say it can be frustrating trying to learn stuff that's actually just crab, if his main goal is portraying, he'r better learn to blend the colors and the the correct tone
I was just kidding bro it's completely alrigh if you showed this to your class i'm pretty sure they'll be surprised but keep in mind there are some mistakes only a few ones can see, if you don't make it too good on a drawing just keep going and try harder the next one, and the next one and the next one, if you could do it perfect on your first trials, then what will make you special when you actually achieve greatness?
yeah, it's frustrating to learn
its not a waste of time, its how you build an actual knowledge of painting like artists have for centuries .
also, the thing you said about replicating, u can do the replication with any medium as long as you have a base knowledge on how colors work. that's the process especially if you'r drawing straight from life
learning to blend colors and knowing tone - is included in the curriculum like i mentioned. it doesn't take long to go through them tho
the frustrating part can be the experimenting process tho
where you try to use your own sense and figure things out
hey guys i want to learn the basics of art, like I used to draw but with no foundation and now I am rly interested in learning from scratch. By drawing I mean on paper, not digital, and anime style using graphite/water colors whataver is easier at first. I was wondering if there were any free sources that would help me get started and practice with them, and what are the materials I might need to kickstart ty ❤️
She's so adorable and cute
Yup she is🌸

You are awesome pd
We all are
imma delete it noww
I completley forgot that I uploaded a wip version of this a bit ago and never shared the finsihed result. My brother says the eyes look off and "derpy", do yall have any advice or critiques on how I can fix that? (btw the character is not my own; they're from the animation "PUPARIA" by Shingo Tamagawa).
looks really cool though you can try adding some depth to the eyes with black lines , make the pupils darker and add highlights
overall bro this is awesome
Thank you so much for the advice, it means a lot! I'll definitely try that!
I adore Puparia and have made art based off of it as well, not to mention the sound track is great. I think the colors used in the background were good choices(in general, the color choice is very attractive) and you've filled the image well. You could immigrate some sort of leading lines, even indistinctively, to draw attention to her(?). I would also suggest pushing the forehead further back a bit, to clear up the visible area of her face and let her eyes show. Its very beautiful, I hope this helps some. Lovely work bee.
I love the anatomy and expression of them, really cool.
Thank yooou! I thought something looked off about the forehead but I couldn't quite put my finger on it, so thanks so much for the feedback! I love Puparia so much too, I've lost track of how many times I've watched it 😅
Ikr, since I saw your art I had to watch it again. Its almost obsessively ethereal.
First time with markers, any suggestions of what to draw next. I want to start getting better with my line work
maybe characters from a certain movie or something?
look like char from Stranger thing 😆
Venom
Haha ....yeah 👍🏻
hey so i had physical education as my additional subject but then i change it to painting can someone guide me to good water color tutorials
She has a good scope of beginner videos to help you get started
I linked a playlist she made just for that, but there's plenty of videos on her channel that cover other things as well. Such as materials and how to use them.
This lady does demos and tutorials, Idk how current they are but i think her videos show how to paint intuitively and they're really interesting to watch! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYp1bgTAZL8

that's so cool omg
I wish I could atleast draw a normal heart diagram, this is wayyyyyy out of my league
Not that I'm bad at drawing, I'm bad at coloring (it's just too boring for me)
if you were the owner of a mechanic store, and you needed to hire personal, who would you hire?, a guy who comes and tells you he's learned everything he knows by studying, or the guy who comes and tells he's learned everything he know by just practicing and work, I worked at a truck workshop as a refactionary, and there were idiots that came and said that they were studying and shit but nah they believed they could do whatever kind of fixing just bc they had a lot of "knowledge" and when they got to work they couldn't do a shit, what i mean is that I believe practice comes before theory, first you have to try something to specifically determine what you actually need to study, im my case at drawing my only problem has been proportions and color tonifications
I guess everyone has the enough knowledge to know how to apply the correct colors in the correct parts
finally something you say that I can agree with, 25% of success is theory the other 75% is about practice
Correct!
It’s important to practice hands on, but theres a balance between study and action. Both should be considered when progressing through a new topic.
Hi
hey
Anybody have any tips on sketching quickly. Like, when you are in a bus and see people and get a pretty recognizable face and figure.
when drawing
simple answer would be practice; but thats not what you want to hear
if you draw slowly and are unable to draw faster on command, its probably because you aren't used to drawing whatever it is you want to draw, and you dont understand the structures behind objects. youd basically just have to do countless studies to imitate likeness to become better and faster,
but for a quick fix id recommend seeing objects through shapes, its hard to explain through words but this video explains it pretty well https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GG-WG6JeKNI

Yeah I suspected it had to be something in that context. Thanks for the info and advice, will watch the vid rn
My attempt at trying to draw the cover art of The Weeknds My Dear Melancholy
looks great
i totally agree but the thing is you need to study in order to know what to practice . they both go hand in hand. Im not saying they should just study and get on with it - the practice is part of studying it is assumed that the student is applying the knowledge .no? I'm just saying you can't start practicing blindly
omg its so noice

someon help me…
i want my line art to look like this
but all i can do is this
do you draw with a tablet or with a mouse?
Tab
Does it look like im drawing with a mouse?
QwQ
his thinnest lines are for some details like some hair, nose, cloth
thick lines for the outline in general or what you want to make more visible and differentiate the objects (mouth and jaw, hands and cloth) from one another
he/she can control the lines very well, and it doesn't seem to do any cross-hatching which makes the drawings very clean and readable but it can lose a bit of the 3dimentionality, so you got to do a good sketch for a very good looking lineart
not really, it looks like you do vector art since you don't add any pressure changes to your drawing
@normal robin what do you think?
really? i did once vector art but its REAL BAD
like
this look more like smth off of a anime scene
and i was happy with it for few moment
but honestly after 3 hours im pretty pissed
it lack… the flow
or smth
maybe experiences with more thick and thin lines are the key for you to achieve the style you want
@normal robin
honestly speaking, i dont have much experience with line art..
but i believe art is a way to express human emotion.
in this drawing the man's face doesnt show much emotion whether he is happy or smthing
whereas the girl's does.
i would suggest, you can try emptying your mind while drawing. dont worry about how the final result will look like, whether, you would match your goal or not. enjoy the proccess....
hope this helps!
@normal robin Need to implement Line weight
objects in the foreground have thiccer lines than those in the back
also Highlight overlaps
all your lines have the Same Weight
No matter the distance or placement
which makes everything Look very 2d

Ultimate Guide To Character Design:
https://www.udemy.com/ultimate-guide-to-character-design-from-beginner-to-pr...
look how the lines from the hand in the foreground are way thicker and darker than for example the Hair thats in the background
also a little trick you can use If you wanna make lines darker and everything visible after you applied Line weight is to Just copy and paste your layers
Like this for example
its the Same drawing but i Copy pasted the layers multiple times to make everything a bit darker
but then like i said also needs Line weight to work
what i like to do to give the artwork a bit more depth is to highlight overlaps with these little shadows Here
hope some of that is useful to you and helps
cant enjoy it at this point when the more passion you show the worst the art is
its just a down hill slope
take a break then,
i write poetry, and every artist does get stuck every once a while
dont worry!
whenever you naturally feel like coming back to your art, then only do it...
yeah maybe its just a fact that i stuck in a art block
i almost completely stopped drawing for a year due to personal issue and study and now I can't do "ok" things anymore coz i lost the habit. ^^"
Concerning your line art , as ppl have said earlier lineweight is important to apply, even though many anime studio do use it that much because the goal ain't the same as u.
During your "break" keep practicing just don't be a mad scientist ok? No hard composition or serious character design or any of that kind. Release pressure from your mind doing warmups, observation, gesture, and exploration.
The worst thing to do is being like me, Searching way too complex, Overthinking, Being Perfectionnist when u don't have the experience or the knowledge to do so. All of this leads to Art block, depression, surrender, and increase laziness.
I can only recommend to make a step back from serious work for few days to get back at it as fresh and free as possible.
Here's some basic video you might have not seen which are great:
Mad scientist… arent i already can be confirmed as one?
Anyone knows graphic designing...iam beginner and need help
Hey guys, someone wants to hire me to do some NFT art and they are asking me how much I want them to pay me but i have no idea!!
Anyone experienced in the area?
They are asking for all of this:
4 different face shape
5 different backgrounds
5 different HAIR per Character
5 different Eye per character
5 different Clothes per character
5 different Hat per character
5 different accessories per character
3 different face mask per character
i dm'd u a server link that would probably help
Atleast:
Hourly/daily fee
price per character
price per background
also, ask them how many characters do they want, how detailed does it need to be?. It seems that they want a lot so do not be afraid to ask for money. It is also your time and skill that goes into this. Talking with the client, designing, cleaning up the design and presenting is a lot of work + time
If it goes well, ask for a payment upfront, about 50% of the price. Getting scammed sucks
Thank you so much that actually helps a lot!
np np
Also, don't send sketches/designs without watermark / something to protect it
thank you they did ask for a sketch so I'll be careful with that
hey ppl!
i needed some help. i wont call myself a "proper artist" but i like to make these paintings on plastic sheets. basically i draw the outlines and then fill them up with special paints..
has anyone got any tips on what i can draw or any tips to improve them in general?
constructive criticism is appreciated!
Thanks
80% to 75%
If you don't know who the client is and would rather submit photos taken with your phone camera, don't send screenshots.
If you have information on them, such as who they are and where they live, you can come to an arrangement with 50 percent payment in advance
and because it is for NFT you're kinda safe if they tried to stole because the copyright belongs to you (Mention that the copyright will only be transferred to the client after full payment)
By the number they asked they can make nft characters above 1000 . i don't much about how it works but the minimum bid i saw for this kind of nfts are 0.1 eth which is approximate 362 $ (and there will be minimum amount of fee for the platform) . So they get X1000+ $. so try to propose your payment by depending on there profit not only your work and the time you took , and ya don't over shoot they are the ones who take risks only a small parentage, which is greater than your usual work/time dependent payment ||@warm siren ||
good points
You can draw cartoons on a little-big sheet ( remember to poke a hole near the cartoon) and then burn it with a lighter or candle so it shrinks down to small and you can use it as a keychain then. You can make bookmarks too.
I tore the paper while drawing the lips, since they were so small and I tried to get them perfect. I can never draw lips
is that the parle g girl?
Idk I found the reference picture on google
ye
ahh, it's p good :)
also i just joined my art coaching so i might need some help
yeahh
liar
u know its the parle girl😆
Did you try changing brushes?
all look the same if not worst
Mmmh
I'm good at line art and I can tell even the slightest difference
Also if you want to improve your line art, start with a good sketch, and no thin lines, keep your brush at different sizes, I'm always around 15 and maximum 30 with a round brush, sometimes less but rarely
I feel like in your drawings you barely change the size of your brush?
And make sure the pressure of your pen does work
I used 3 or 4 different brushes
powerr
hi everyone, im trying to draw this man holding a piece of paper and i cant get the hand to look right, anyone have some tips?
the index finger
use a ref. picture ig
If you can't find a good reference picture you can make one yourself, have someone take a picture of you in the pose you wish to draw and use that pic
Can someone give inpiration to draw a building??
Pen pressure
Any American here participating/has participated in Young Arts? If so, do you have any advice for how to organize a visual portfolio?
hi, i study visual arts
well, is a portafolio of photography or painting, sculpture ?
how to make alphabet that can have different colour, but it still one character? can someone help me how to do that??
Hey this looks really good
thanks :)
Who is he?
It's mainly painting but I also have some edited photos.
BTS jungkook
Do they have a theme or connection with each other?
This is art??
maths is art too!
Please post your art in #math-help
did no one replied
its from design entrance exam thats why i asked here
No one would answer here
Is this some phone application?
Fixed. Pls stay patient, our lives don't revolve around the math help channel
There's no need to ruin this channel full of beautiful creations with our ugly math problems 😉
Yeah, I'm mainly doing environments, but I also want to create a narrative out of them. From what I've heard from other students tho, is that young arts judges don't really favor narratives/stories/comics etc.
These are so creative and outstanding 💓 love them
What's that in the mouth anyway?
Thanks! Those are cigs btw
Oh are these made on canvas or device?
Oh nice they are dope
Also what do these depict? I guess it's the cigarate smoke from her eyes? And what's the injury from?
They're all digital; I was trying to pull a traditional-like painting on all of it
Oh
I can't really explain what all of these depict, I guess maybe I'm trying to give my works some trademark to it.
Her hair in this one is so perfect
And btw the last two are stills from films!
Oh nice
the drawings look g8
ig the eyes could you a bit more work
the flame looks like a sticker pasted on the face 😅
do you want to enter a contest ? is of visual arts?
Yes, I agree! I'm learning how to make these flames glow. But for now, I think I'm sticking with it sticking like a sticker hahaha
you must recognize the theme of the contest
the intentions, if it is a traditional painting you should focus on the use of materials and colors and the form, if it is a contemporary painting you should focus on the concept or the medium of painting.
In looove!
It looks really good! 🤩
the bigger ons eyes are not in line
i wanted to ask how do poeple figure out how to draw hair?, theres this hair style that seems super complex ive been wanting to draw
I guess take help of technology. Apply black n white effect and increase the Sharpness of the picture. That will help
hmm i wil ltry do that thank you
yeaa thanks
Focus on the general shape of the hairstyle and the movement of the curls
Also try to know where the hair starts
You're not supposed to draw every single hair, but the more visible ones
ill try its also a matter of i dont know how to draw the curls im very new to art
Same
I think you should Try to look and figure out the hair type how its like and then start drawing, draw an overall extrior structure then just hair in it
like this I made a structure first now I can add hairs in it, with the bend to make it look natural
also Just like I said it depends on what you are making like it this one its hardly any depth of quantity of hair, i haven't filled it yet its complete.
Yeah, it's kinda like a contest, but it doesn't have a theme. The students themselves choose concentrations, they can be new or from past years of highschool. Students have to explain the meaning and processes behind their portfolios. And thank you so much for the advice! Really appreciate it!
Mates! I want learn manga art,how I can? Any tip or any you tube channel name?
oh, an art help channel! this is cool 😍
Excuse me guyss how to scan the skeches to digital easily eh?
you can use a printer if available
or use a good phone camera
@knotty flicker
@knotty flicker

5am things
Ohh okay then thank you so much
today I drew my character in anime art style (btw I used myself for reference)
Not sure if I can call this done yet but can I get some feedback / general thoughts
Hello everyone 🌸 if anyone needs help with drawing, as a student of an architecture uni, i can help you
Eyes are a bit bigger than they should be, and I couldn't shade well cause my ballpen didn't control the ink flow. Im thinking of switching to a brush.
Something is wrong with the lower half of the face, not done yet tho so i might be able to fix it
anyone know how to paint castle walls?
tell me where did i went wrong
The cat
Also, all the objects on the right lack of 3 dimension
i guess you should learn about perspective
ye bro ill learn it
im just starting my art journey ive been stem student all my life never really drew shit
do you have any tips for a newbie
Just practice everyday , make a drawing a day and you'll be good
okii thankyou
:)
Draw cubes, spheres, circles, break things into basic shapes, it helps a lot, and watch others' people process and tutorials
I personally think you don't have to draw every single day to progress, you just need to train your eyes, but yes of course you also have to practice at some point, but avoid the artist' burnout by practicing every day
Yea you are right practicing too much is also not good , It can lead to artists block but what I was trying to say was practice consistently..
Oh okay, yes consistency is important
I draw every 4 months since I don't have time to, and it's detrimental because I can't progress at all
which design exam u preparing for?
Red and pink tinted pencil colors are helping me, I think I will get used to pencil colors more, never thought I would like it so much 😌
looks beautifulll
these flowersss dayum lit
ya looks so good
@spring ore
I agree
But It was so tiring to make the nose that I didn't wanted to erase anything else
try using pastels it would be lookin nicey
I can't use pastels for shading, I mess up all the time
but u did great
great work. Looks absolutely stunning teddy.
Well done teddy. Good work
Go back to calling me Karan 👶
Will do😂👍
@spring ore you did great work teddy 💜✨
yall its like 3 am and I need to finish this painting by 11 and oI have no turpenitine
Please critique
This is a design I did for a mural.
Woah that looks great 🤩🧡
@spring ore Thank you 😊😊
learning perspective for arch entrance tests... how is this?
Josuke?
From part 8 yes
Ty ty
the perspective is good, but its a little bit out of scale. the usual height of the window sill is 800-900mm and the door should be no less than 2100mm
aight got it
It's lovely, I would suggest u refine the structure of her face and also, work a lil bit on the bg as well
thank you
My old acc
You have two cat shadows
its good tho
:)
Guys is this garlic okay
looks like garlic
i love garlic 🥰
actually this line looks a little bit weird
But, the rest looks nice
Oh man, it's been a hot minute since I shared here, these are some of my inktober arts. Crits are valuable.
Oooh, these look dope
Thanks mate
Okay noted thanks for the reply
Sight size
With a proper mirror easel set up
This is assuming you don’t already have a decent grasp on observation/ proportional accuracy
Intuitive simple forms in perspective and light and shadow on form
And a decent knowledge of constructive anatomy
Then sight size is the best way to achieve a nice drawing that is accurate
Poopoo imagination
How can i erase the guidelines without destroying the pic ✋😭😭
You can’t you should have started out light
1# rule
I mean you can but they will still be visible
thats cool
thank uu"
Can I have some feedbacks please? Ty
I'd say the right arm looks almost invisible at 1st glance and the area where the left arm connects to the chest/pecs looks a bit thin(not too sure about this one). really cool work though
Add more shadow under the chin if you want to separate those forms, it now looks like she is pushing her head back into her neck . (I suggest using a triangle-ish shaped shadow since it's roughly the same shape as hear chin and triangle is a really good form to separate forms)
Looking at the highlights we can see that the light is coming from top/right/behind.
But your shadows on your fence are showing us that light is only coming in from the top. Her right arm/hand is/are also catching light from a different angle/lightsource.
Define your lightsource, find out which planes are facing towards/away/etc from your light source, that way you can have consistent lighting and shadows.
Planes facing the light are the lightest whilst facing away are the darkest. Everything between these two states will never be as light or as dark. (excluding castshadows)
IsteBrak has some really really good video's explaining this 100x better than I can @trim vector
working slowly on things
Wooow I've been so impressed by what you guys have been sending over the last few days
You're all so great, keep it up ! 💪
If you don't mind a one-time purchase, Clip Studio Paint is apparently affordable and popular. Gimp is free, as well as fire alpaca. SAI is a one time purchase too, and also popular. Personally, I use Photoshop, but it isn't cheap.
In terms of actual art, it depends on what your skill level is at right now. What are you familiar with so far?
Basic anatomy, color theory, etc.
Also, materials wise, you'll need some kind of tablet.
The Wacom brand is what most everybody uses. I'd either go cheap and look for an older model on ebay, like a Bamboo or Intuos draw if you can find one that's guaranteed to work. They're cheap and last a long time. Don't go spending a lot of money on something big and grand. Smaller ones work just as well. You can also buy one of the cheaper, newer ones if you really want. Up to you.
If you have an iPad with an apple pen, you can also use that.
@split tartan I'm just starting from no skills what so ever. As for the tablet would you say the One wacom is worth purchasing?
Yes, that's the newer cheap model they have. That'd work just fine.
Since you're just starting out, there's a bunch of approaches you can take. If you're enrolled in a college, they might offer some courses called figure drawing or life drawing. These are the basics for any artist, and can be transferred into digital art very easily. This is if you want to start getting into drawing characters, monsters, etc.
Here are some resources that will really benefit you. I suggest watching the videos a few times to actually soak in the information, then try doing some experimental sketches:
-
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3BE843C2DE5DC6AC & https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLflflDShjUKH4EfZyf0vuKEuqeqvlV0Qd Playlists of videos from Sinix, a well known artist. These are short and mostly supplementary, but they go over key topics really well.
-
http://figuredrawingdotinfo.blogspot.com/ Michael Hampton is another highly praised artist. His anatomical prowess is incredible, and he breaks down the human figure to its most basic shapes, up through the skeleton and muscle structures. If you're looking to go hard with it, I suggest looking through his blog. You can also buy his book.
Consider studying the elements of art to get a good starting grasp on art as a whole. Explore art history, maybe find some artists that speak to you, or ages in art that resonate with what you like. My biggest recommendation is to do something called Life Drawing. I mentioned this earlier--it's one of the most important things you can do when learning art. I'm a bit hypocritical, as I don't do it anymore really, but it's something they pushed when I was in college.
Basically, you sit down and draw from life. People, nature, buildings, etc. The more you do this, the more you come to understand perspective, how less lines can be more once you figure out shape language, etc. Light and shadow. All kinds of stuff.
When you start exploring drawing from life, you'll start learning about gesture drawing. This is also very important.
All of this can be done digitally, btw. But try experimenting traditionally when you can. There are people who draw just with a ballpoint pen on a cheap notebook. You don't need fancy materials for traditional art, and it can be a great way to practice if you don't have access to your computer.
The thing you're wanting to improve when you first start out is draftsmanship and your understanding of how things work in the world. from there, you can start exploring things like stylization, animation, etc.
This can seem like a lot, but I'm always seeing people just look at those 'do this not that' tutorials and it upsets me a bit--they're not helpful at all imo.
If you want to 'get good', draw everyday. But if you value your physical health, take lots of breaks and don't push yourself.
Links to art tutorials and learning resources, structured in a way to help anyone to learn to draw and paint to a professional standard.
This is what I'm loosely following
@split tartan Alright thank you as for the sometimes doing traditional art are there any special pencils and paper you can use to make the process more enjoyable?
So you can use anything, really. Here's some suggestions that can be found on amazon or in craft stores:
-
Graphite pencils. There's a bunch of sets on amazon with different lead types--each lead type has a different feel, weight, etc. You can watch a video on it. Staedtler or faber-castell would work. When it comes to picking the hardness of lead that you think will work best, it really just comes down to preference, which is why I suggest buying a set so you can try all of them out.
-
Prismacolor Col-Erase Pencil. These are often used by animators and are erasable colored pencils that are great for underdrawings/sketches, especially if you plan on drawing on top of the sketch with a pen or something. I typically get 'non-photo blue' or 'red'.
-
Zebra Pens (Ballpoint, 0.5mm). These are used by a lot of artists for life drawing. They have a surprising versatility to them and, unlike Micron pens (which you might see a lot of artists use), act more like a pencil. I have a few myself.
-
Micron Pens. You'll see these used a lot, and I also sometimes use them. I don't think they're necessarily the best, but some people can get a lot of mileage out of them. They also come in packs of different sizes. I personally use the really fine ones.
As far as paper goes, I prefer one kind of sketchbook that has never really failed me:
https://www.amazon.com/Canson-Heavyweight-Texture-Sizing-Sheets/dp/B002NQ5P36/ref=sr_1_37?dchild=1&keywords=sketchbook&qid=1634576859&sr=8-37&th=1
These come in multiple sizes. Mixed media is great because you can do painting, sketching, etc. The paper is on the thicker side, which helps prevent bleeding, and it's usually on sale.
As you get better at art, you'll start to find that you don't need a bunch of tools. And, like I mentioned before, some artists use REALLY cheap materials like plastic ballpoint pens or even shitty school pencils. It's really up to you and how you use your tools to make art. But it's always fun to experiment and see what you like and dislike.
Try blending out your shadows and midtones by doing this sketch technique:
Define the edges of each object within your image with a heavier line weight (thicker), in areas where you've got shadow, and then slowly fill in using the same technique I did. You'll want to define a lightsource in your image but
it can be tough since you're doing a snow globe and that's got a few different materials going at the same time.
Always define your lightsource first.
Im also guessing it's nighttime in this image? In the snow globe.
So this is a bit of a severe light source, given that it's in a snowglobe, but here's an example of how shadows might work with the moon being positioned that way.
You make it look so good

ahh, thank you! it's tough to get the hang of light and shadows, and midtones too, but you'll get there soon enough. It's good that you're getting the basics down!
Im the one who have to thank!!!!
Yes for now its still hard for me but ill practice. Then i Hope itll get better
Taehyung'u çizen var mı?
its g8
ig there is some proportional or postion problem with the head/neck part
i feel this may be a bit harsh, esp when you are in artblock, so please take this with a grain of salt :) your enjoyment for art is more imporant than improving.
the face and colors are very pleasing to look at, but the body could use some fixing.
i feel you were atleast subconsciously trying to draw a front on body with a 3/4 face, so some issues popped up; if you try to draw the body underneath the clothes, it lacks structure and the clavicle is at a very awkward position, and the neck attaches toward the front of the skull instead of the centre of the skull. With just a little bit of structure your art will be super amazing :D

u should become animator or smthing
nothing confirmed though, just possibilities
how do I draw things what do I need
in my opinion it is beautiful! maybe trying to add something that will highlight more the transition of frames you know (maybe lightnings) so it doesn’t feel like one big thing, but honestly i love it
srry english is not my mother tongue
Sure thnks I feel I need to refine it more
depends on how you want to do it like traditionally or digitally
i want to draw hinata
Ok step 1
Take a easy refrence
Break it down into shapes
Draw the shapes in the postion
Fix positioning, shape sizes etc
Draw erase draw erase until you feel it's good to go and you're done
okay
Something like this
What do you mean?
It's Kakashi

Hi! I am russian and i know eng so-so, sorry for that, but! I learn animation in russia and wanna know, somebody learn this too?
Anyone here would like to be a kind of mentor for me? I have a lot of difficulty with visual things and I wanted to improve a little by learning to illustrate I can't even draw a frog
I don't know how to draw or simple drawings like stick figures or simple characters I just wanted someone to talk to and try to figure out some of my problem
Thanks
I seem to not have been away for long! Here you go as said, a timelapsed inking video. Enjoy!

like are u teaching because I would love to learn . Im a huge fan of russian animators especially Yuri and Francisca Norstein .
It's very cool, I'm in college as an animator, we're studying the history of animation, and it's really very interesting and inspiring, who else do you like?
sketch in paint
how do i stop feeling like i want to quit art while i'm alraedy on the 5th semester of art school
idk it feels like heavy burnout
If you want to help you at your home work in theory music u welcome !!!!
You gotta push through it. 😕💜 You know, in the end it will all be worth it!!

so sorry ure going thru that. Im assuming it's creative burnout.. that's rly soul-sucking. Have u taken time for urself lately? :c
been a while so i wanna share a snippet of current sketch (trying to not do my actual illustration hw
) however, does anyone have a good ear-drawing tip I can follow or something cuz damn. I hate not being able to remember a friggin organ that I look at everyday whenever I put earrings on.
no
i think that's why, i haven't really focus on art lately,
I'm not sure how u feel about art currently but maybe try spending some time doing what u like to do in art with quick sketches or whatever u do. I know that not everything u do in Uni is really what u want to do and we can lose ourselves in the process. Or if u just want a break completely, spend time somewhere else with friends or just watch a movie or show. I like to avoid burn out by just hanging out with my older sister/friends or be by myself and shop or just go to the park to jog, bake stuff, etc. Do anything else that's productive besides creative work.
yeah i think i need to do that too, i've been really neglecting my emotional needs lately
can i have any improvements or critics please😩 this is for an assignment but it really really looks sloppy imo
It may look sloppy but in my opinion I enjoy light drawings like those
It reminds me of fun textbooks they’d give you in pre school
Also the female looks like the main character in In this Corner of the World
this looks cute
ohh the female is supposed to be a granny
but i know that movie
yeah, i was supposed to adapt a children's short story into an illustration
so i made the artstyle look like a children's storybook
aww that’s wonderful
is it a short story you create?
i like children's styled illustration too, and no, it's a short story from a local kids magazine in my country
ooh
the picture above wasn't finished though
i did a little adjusment like doing more thick lines
i'm studying visual design btw
there’s one children’s short story I barely remembered years ago but it was about some boy who was once a peach??
omg that’s great
yes I grew up with many Japanese tales
there's like a local version here
that’s why the illustration is so familiar haha
there's similar themes on asian countries
mostly about children facing adult problems unexpectedly
it's so common here
there's one called "timun mas" here which is about a child who had to face two demons sent to kill her
i love princess kaguya
the ghibli adaptation was beautiful
the ending was really sad though
i know about japanese tales from imported manga back then
imho, most asian folklores mostly center about the same themes
coming-of-age some sort
it's to taught children to face real problems
yes I only realized that when you mentioned it hm
i live in America but I used to live in Okinawa when I was a toddler
In school there were many festivals
wait i'm gonna censor my name in here
One of them scared the heck out of me
i don't want irls to know me here
ah makes sense
half japanese?
ohh yeah it's common to get drafted to japan i guess
but he moved around while we were stationed there
america built a military base in japan
ooh i see
well i'm asian but nowhere near japanese
but i know the language though
yeah i am southeast
i don't really like japan in general actualy
except their fictional media like manga or anime
I’d say the same based of the high rates of a few things
japanese people think they're the "best" on asia
I never realized how people idolize japan saying it’s better than many countries
they only think of their culture but never the people that live there
like what about the high rates of suicide among young students?!
idk after hearing that japanese people really look down on southeast asians.. that made me lose respect to most people there
it’s crazy how they don’t see that stuff and try to hide it
yeah japan has many problems around the work culture
yeah never go to mainland
Unless you wanna learn about the culture
wow
they’re still closed to many countries
yeah
which sucks
like other east asian countries in general, i don't really like them tbh😭
but i'm cool with their pop culture
well not really but i tolerate the pop culture at least
i got so angry learning that east asians look down on southeast asians
it may seem weird but the only reason why I keep interest in East Asian countries is because of the architecture and history
most of them are just too snobbish and rude in general, idk, mostly just consist the elederly there
even with their clothes from back then
that's fine
sorry i don't mean to sound rude above... that doesn't mean i hate them but it's just,,, i hate their goverment or something
the fact they respect the elderly yet lately no child has been willing to take care of their grandparents is crazy
you’re fine
one thing that bothered me was that whole one child policy in China
I understand they wanted to drop the population but
now theres way more males than females
and the social credit system
and idk everywhere I go theres always a Chinese female adopted into a white family
😭😭
I have had 3 friends
east asian countries are just too serious compared to southeast ones
in indonesia maybe it's because the religious influence is strong here, so no one feels like they're taking life too seriously
For the food 😭
but again, southeast asia (except singapore) feels like they still had a lot to catch up to fit in the modern society
esp. indonesia
what are some things I should learn about when it comes to south east Asia
Tbh I really only know about the food
i'm sorry but i was never proud of my own country as well
😭😭
indonesia still had a long way to go
oh hmm idk
their lifestyle i guess?
in indonesia it feels like no one took life that seriously
or else you'll be called an "orgil" or some sort here
I mean if you look at Korea, it wasn’t until the end of the 20th century when they starting revolutionizing
"orgil" means "crazy"
yes yes
korea was once really poor
i know that
korea seems like a horrible country before
I wish those countries could help the Philippines
they're a small country and always annexed by it's neighbors
but it's incredible how modern south korea is now
oh man
my friend brought back souvenirs from South Korea. Most of it seemed to just be about Kpop??
yeah it's no suprise
kpop is like their main industry
wait are we okay talking about this stuff here?
in the art channel i mean
if you mention korea to anyone. It’s only about kpop
and the whole kpop thing is messy too
You have people calling one person ugly and another not
bruh I had one friend who said “they can do that because they’re also Korean” what??
yeah ik korean culture is messy
that's why i never really went deep into their fandoms
but i mean it's ok to like kpop
just try not to obsess on them
same goes with any other content
obsession is bad
yeah me too like we got too serious on the art channel😭😭
😭😭
yea
sorry again i hope none of east asians dislike me after this
i sound so racist im so sorry😭😭
am i?
idk
no
I remember someone saying “you’re racist if you dislike kpop”
I actually don’t like any pop genres
That goes with Korean pop
😭
ok man sorry but im doing my work rn
u can add me if u wanna talk more btw
sorry am busy rn😭😭
I’d love to try gouache ughh
bye btw im doing ma work
The movement is very good, I also want to(
coulda moved it to ur dms ahhaha but it's aight. Just do it for next time i g
thank u thank u
oh ok sorry 😭😭
I think this is absolutely adorable and the way it is done sits well. I don't think it's necessarily sloppy, maybe certain areas just need more contrast to complete the look. Up to your judgement
yeah that was unfinished
aaaah isee i see
i did more shading afterwards
i really wanna study architecture
i didn't take it as my major because i'm bad at math
but i'm really curious what architecture school is like somehow
you could perhaps visit a university or college and listen to architecture classes? 🥺
for free? i hope so
ah yeah forgot about the money
money
😭😭
i mean now you can learn anything by yourself
but
architecture seems like hell and torture
that's why i didn't take that major
i'm scared of either k wording myself in the middle of the major
😭😭
Does anyone here use a IPad for drawing? And which model are you using?
This is cute
