Do hit the body so hard
sedentarism is so unhealthy
indeed
totally agree, obesity is a risk factor in every disease says while sitting on his chair for 6 hours straight and snacking every 20 minutes
haha exactly
being a student is very unhealthy
during the blocus i sit like 15h at my desk
Well im from jordan
In the map it says that we have between half of 1m to 1 one
That actually alot
Yup that why i try to workout in my breaks

Well good night people
Good night!
Good night. Iāll go to sleep too. Iāll visit the library tomorrow ^^

Hello I am a first cycle medical student, recommendation to be able to survive these 7 years of challenges?
find your why, study bc u want to know these things bc u like it
Lets see
-First focus on knowledge more than grades
-Don't over stress ur self
-Avoid the negative students whose job only to break the mental state of people
-Ask the older students for help if u can
Always remember mental health above everything, grades come and go
There is no shame in finding you boundaries, better now as a student than later on in your carreer
hi! dont know if this is the right place but i cant seem to grasp the difference between prevalence and morbidity, anyone who can help?
Avoiding negative students, that must be the best suggest šš»
any youtube channel recommendations on immunology?
Frank Lectures
I guess,
Prevalence is like commonness of something.
Morbidity is prevalence of a disease.
guys what is lactational amenorrhea?
Basically,
It is a period of upto 6 months (usually),
Post parturition, where the woman who has just given birth is not
menstruating provided
She breast feeds her baby throughout this period
So she is basically infertile for that period because the breastfeeding disrupts the release of GnRH
Which in turn prevents the release of LH and FSH which prevents ovulation.
So this can be considered as a natural way of birth control
However the chance of conceiving increases after 6 months,
Also this period can be lesser than 6 months in many cases
Hope this helps!
tyyy!!! š
hey guys, im a 1st year medic and i was wondering if any of you have recommendations for online question banks/self-assessment resources??
the main things im looking for are locomotor/cardiopulmonary
Hello can anyone help me in bio, please an thank u!!
what do you need help with in particular? x
Cellular respiration and its steps
oh boy
You can just google
you can find recommended resources in First aid for USMLE book
how important is it to know the pathogenesis of a disease to UNDERSTAND the variaty of treatment available
Does anyone know what ADH does
do you mean Anti diuretic Hormone?
as far as I've been taught in school, it helps to control blood pressure by acting on the kidneys and mainly conserve the fluid volume of your body by reducing the amount of water passed out in the urine. makes the urine concentrated if you're dehydrated. hope this helps.
It's also called Vasopressin
Which roughly means "vessel constricting"
And so it increases Blood Pressure too
Diuresis in essence is excess urination
And it is anti diuretic
This is an explanation using the words by themselves ...
So it might make it easier for you to retain this info
Well hope this helps!
Hello
I need to know what exactly a psychiatrist does..... I googled it but it wasn't clear for me.....if anyone know plz help me....

Hei guys, I have a question : is beta blocker/adrenaline an example for physiological antagonism ? I would say yes but I am not sure..
of course, function and competitive type of antagonism, depends on the receptor
And what about the effect of an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor (compared to the adrenaline)? It is the same ?
hello all i'm a 1st_ year medical student ......and we have exams on the 27 of june anyone can give me sites to study biochemstry and physiology
i supose for BP, it is antagonism but function type, since they both have opposite effects but by different mechanisms
What BP stands for ?š
Do you speak French? If yes there is a channel on YouTube "biochimiefacile" with interesting videos :) it may help you

Okay I see, thank you š
yes i do i study medicine in french ....thank u so much
Hello I wanted to ask if the light intensity increases will the photosynthesis increase as well?
Please let me know, thank u
nope
Cause when I searched it up thatās what it said
photosynthesis is saturated at only 10% of sunlight
more intentisty then chlorophyll will get oxidised and destroyed
Actually Iām writing my hypothesis on light intensity
And I have to relate to the photosynthesis
If itās weather gonna or not
Thatās why I was just wondering
light intensity increases photosynthesis upto a extent and beyond that photosynthesis decreases
Ur asking this question on what context ?
If there is a reaction then there is a saturation
Can someone pls help with this question I can't found the answer..
Cholera toxin :
A) activates phospholipase C
B) activates adenylate cyclase
C) inhibits guanylate cyclase
D) indirectly activates PKA (protein kinase A)
I was thinking that B is correct and C is wrong but I am not sure at all and the others options idk :((
i made a drawing. AC stands for adenylate cyclase. So cholera activates adenylate cyclase(AC) ->AC stimulates transformation of atp into ampc->AMPc activates chlorine channels, then chlorine goes into the lumen. Na and H2O will follow Cl and this is how you get diarheea in cholera. Thus, the enterocyte becomes from an absorbtive cell, a secretory cell.
so its B as far as i know
B
Thank you so much guys š

I wanted to ask when it says Krebs cycle 2 acetyl-CoA and 1 glucose

Hi guys my name is Amaan
And I'm a 3rd year medical student.
I'm searching for a study partner.
The thing is we're gonna study whatever subjects we have to and after we're done we can have a little chat on whatever we've studied. We can try to set a mutual study time and study together on vcall or general call.
This way we can stay focused.
So anyone who's interested kindly dm me.
Hey i am not much of a biology guy i just came here to ask if anyone knows what is the best way to sleep and never wake up
Iām in!..from tomorrow tho
I didnāt get this..Acetyl-CoA is the raw material for krebās cycle if that is what you meant?
Itās ok I already get it
How do you overcome procrastination š©
M regretting for not studying effectively these days and still not studying
š š
G protein coupled receptors can
A) activate protein kinase A
B) activate protein kinase G
C) activate protein kinase C
D) everything is correct
E) everything is false
I am pretty sure that B is false and A and C are correct, can anyone tell me if I am wrong ?
G protein activate the , Cyclic AMP synthesized by adenylate cyclase. Cyclic AMP, in turn, activates protein kinase A.
The synthesis of phosphoinositol which binds to a receptor in the endoplasmic reticulum, causing the release of calcium.
The synthesis of diacylglycerol which activates protein kinase C.
@ruby badge
G protein activate the adenylate cyclase wich transforme the ATP in AMP cyclic and amp activate protein kinase A
Thank you for your explanation @molten root :) If you don't mind I have another question about inhibitor phosphodiesterase :
A) lengthens the half life of AMPc
B) lengthens the half life of GMPc
C) can cause vasodilation
D) can cause vasoconstriction
E) is used to treat asthma
I think A B and E are correct (pretty sure about the E)
Hi, does anyone knows the difference between primers forward and reverse in PCR? I was searching but i dont understand at all, ill be so thankful that someone could help :).
they work in opposite direction
Hey is chemiosmosis and ETC same??
i don't really know i didn't study this yet i'am sorry
Don't worry š
ETC is chain of electron carriers where electrones are transported from NADH and flow from high electronegative to more electropositive components.
Chemiosmosis or chemiosmotic hypothesis stats that when electrones are transported through ETC, at same time protons are pumped from matrix of mitochondria to intermitochondrial space. This creates high concentration of protons outside inner mitochondrial membrane creating proton or electrochemical gradient. This electrochemical gradient is responsible for generation of ATP from ADP and iP through ATP synthase.
ETC creates the proton gradient across the inner mitochondrial membrane which is used by ATP synthase to make ATP in chemiosmosis. So ETC allows the chemiosmosis to happen after. At the end, O2 is the final electron acceptor to begin the next round of cellular respiration starting with glycolysis.
If there is no oxygen, well I guess our good friends of fermentation will help us make less ATP than we can with oxygen.

Why abrupt withdrawl of beta blockers dangerous?
Is it due to upregulation or increase in sensitivity of receptors
@deep root Because after long time of using it the amount of B-receptors is increased and the amount of noradrenaline being released is increased too. (So more like 1st option)
hope it went well
aww thank you, i just finished and i think it went ok!! š

Hey guys. I wanna ask. Is erythema multiforme an autoimmune disease or not?
@ancient bridge skin immune response to allergic or medications
Im confused because i found a journal that said
"Severe erythema multiforme (major type) is mostly
caused by autoimmune process. In histopathology
examination, autoantibody on desmoplakins 1 and 2 are
found, which show the involvement of humoral immune system" but couldnt find further explanation
Since i thought EM is hypersensitivity not autoimmune. Does anyone know why major EM said to has autoimmune process?

hey i got 12 h ago my second vaccine. Iam having 38 grad C temperature now. Iam I allowed to drink a paracetamol?
Are you better? Did you take anything? Theoretically you just have to go through the process, 38 is not that high, def not high enough to panic. But paracetamol is better than anti-inflammatory drugs if you really wanted something.
Hello

Which book do you use for immunology?
Hey i use Cellular and Molecular Immunology written by Abul K. Abbas
anyone in optometry in the US here?
All that I remember is that DNP was readily prescribed. The side effects are like malignant hyperthermia. The hydrogen ion is unable to contribute for the ATP productions. Causing atp depletion leading to continues production of kreb and tca cycle within the mitochondria unable to still make atp. Causing the use of calories and weight lose which comes with hyperthermia.
Get amboss and start using that for everything
Erythema multiforme is a type 4 hypersensitivity. Now thatās doesnāt mean that all type 4 hypersensitivity reactions will have erythema multiforme. Example HSV goes to dermatomes or nerve endings. Retrograde and anterograde. Now once itās replicating, itās near the skin surface hence the patient is able to demonstrate erythema multiforme. Type 4 hypersensitivity is also a transplant rejection. Which doesnāt initially present with erythema multiforme. Type 4 just means activation of Th1 cells. Has a memory of previous or been sensitized to the antigen or trigger prior. Still type 4 can be triggered by an APC. Which can be autoimmune. Presentation of self antigen to Th1 cells.
I maybe be wrong in my replies. I hope someone can confirm or deny.
could someone please convert either one of these structures into a balanced chemical formula?
Thank you so much for helping me @river kayak @kind fox š„ŗ
So erythema multiforme can be type 4 hypersensitivity and autoimmune depend on the process. Its so hard bcs many journals hv various answer. Some says EM is HS type III too. Thank youu for enlighten meāŗļø
Thatās the fun part. Type 4 means the over activation Th1 cells. Type 3 in a cascade by making antibody/antigen complex activates the Th1 cells
Type 3 is where u see the nephritic syndrome would occur and arthritis
anyone can reference a good aldosterone antagonist video or article? something for nurse not doctor

anyone preparing for USMLE stp 1 ?
if yes you can dm me.im starting to prepare for usmle.
it also reduces pain
does anyone know why ABO incompatibility transfusion leads to disseminated intravascular coagulation?
Type 3 hypersensitivity. inducing or smth blood vessels or forming rhombus plugs causing DIC
And true yes decreases in prostaglandins does reduce pain.
Prostaglandin does cause vasoconstriction. Smooth muscle contraction and can be used to help in uterine contraction.
that didnt answer my question. i was asking for the mechanism of DIC due to transfusion incompatibility
i dont see why there would be clot formation since there is no endothelium damage or anything related to the platelets since its a blood transfusion
Deciminated intravascular coagulation in my understanding it systemic/diffused activation of intravascular coagulation. Which has multi role triggeres.
The questions ur asking I think itās the similar concept where a pregnant women has a secound child with different RH incompatibility leading to abortion.
Thankss a lot it really helpsš„ŗ
If the Blood type/ABO doesnāt match the host recieving then the immune system wonāt be able to recognize them as self leading to activation of systemic coagulation
Or am i not understanding ur question.
i didnt know that wrong blood transfusions can lead to systemic coagulation
i thought its just hemolisis
but it makes sense now that i know that it triggers systemic coagulation
With the DIC I believe there are subtypes and the most common example i see is that the obgyn didnāt scrap the uterus well and leading the placenta DIC. I believe thatās bleeding DUC
thanks
Yes thatās true, HUS is a cause of wrong blood transfusion but doesnāt that leave components of cytoplasm and and other materials (IRON - Hemochromatosis) in the plasma leading to more interactions with neutrophils and cytokines and triggering of coagulation due to the dmg caused by the immune system.
Like itās a perfect example saying gram -be bacteria with endotoxins that induce HUS and the main cause of death is DIC
I think the idea of DIC is to differentiate the clinical situation ( or the body of the question) from ITP and TTP.

How is chemiosmosis related to ETC?
Bruh does anyone have any tips for cell bio? I have about a month left till exams but the slides are huge like 120 sometimes or even more and the topics are kinda difficult to find in videos :/ I have pre exam questions too and I'm trying to read the questions to get the topic then read the book quick for that understanding of that particular tested topic also making notes (might make mind maps for each chap if I have time to review the main stuff quicker) so I know what were the main things tested previously. I have been advised by seniors that these mcqs are wat will come and to memorize blindly but tbh to me that seems harder and more of a risk :/ what do u guys think I should do? I have like 12 chapters left bruh
yes. ninjanerd recently made some cell bio videos , check them out
3rd generation beta adrenoblockers are used to treat heart failure. So, as far I understood, the point is to reduce heart load but at the same time stimulate heart's performance. 3rd gen. BABs cause negative chronotropic effect -> increase ventricular filling time -> increase preload (Frank-Srtarling; the bigger the heart-chamber filling in diastole, the greater the blood volume will be ejected into the subsequent systole); heart pumps blood more efficiently. However, 3rd gen. BABs also induce venous dilation -> more blood accumulates to periphery -> less blood to heart -> decreased preload. Aren't these effects countering each other or is just one of them more dominant?
Iām not quite sure I fully understand what u wrote and ur precise question. But I will try
Is a send. Heart failure. Complete heart failure. There are stages for heart failure with the last stage being stage 4 is where the addition of digoxin is added. Now digoxin or digitalis can be added at the 3 stage as well. But before digoxin. The patient should already be on ace inhibitors, beta blockers and the most important with congestive heart failure the patient needs to be on a diuretic
Now why beta blockers right? Well the heart B1 receptor and M2 receptor
And B2 receptors are in the peripheral
Metroprolol is a selective b1 blocker and lotaprolol or other can be non selective meaning it can vasodilator the peripheral artistries and have an effect
At the same time beta receptors are also in the lungs hence we use beta agonist for asthma
So really u have to a brief idea where all the receptors are located and what sequence they can. Is it a G I,s,q protein? Where first alpha 1,2 are beta 1,2 muscuranic 1-3 vasopressin and dopamine receptors
Each with different action or the same and the location
So now beta 1 is in the heart. If I give the heart failure pts beta 1 blocker it will reduce the hearts consumption requirement and so on. Now if I give my patient a non selective beta blocker the peripheral vessels will dilate as well as bradycardia with decrease preload
Atropine adenosine, phynelpeprhine, etc.. autonomic drugs are very highyield due to correlation with cardio, renal, respiratory and GI system
Digoxin on the other hand doesnāt correlate with calcium influx but how much the calcium can leave the cell. So it doesnāt help contact but stay contracted for a longer time.
Calcium channel blockers are used as well but keep in mind what the dihydropyradine type it is. And only effects AV node.
Iām sorry for the spelling mistake Iām typing on my phone š
All good haha, I appreciate your help! I am just trying to formulate my sentences better
Lol sorry. I have a slight adhd problem so my answers tend to deviate a lot
Dont worry, kinda mess in my head so I am having hard time figuring out how to explain myself
So in heart failure, the heart is not able to pump out sufficient amount of blood to the rest of the body. We can improve this by stimulating cardiac performance (increasing ejection volume) and reducing heart load. Increase in end diastolic volume (increased preload) would lead to ejection of greater volume of blood, by reducing the heart rate, ventricles will have more time to fill up -> greater end diastolic volume. Non-selective beta blockers decrease heart rate but they also cause vasodilation (through alpha 1 block), vasodilation causes blood to accumulate in periphery so less blood will go back to the heart -> decrease in preload. So non-selective BABs increase preload by reducing heart rate and at the same time they decrease preload by vasodilation.
I don't know if it came out any better lol
So I think, the confusion is or the real question is that do we give non selective BAB for heart failure.
And thatās a no. Non selective bab are a good consideration for hypertension unable to be controlled by diet and etc.
Angina
But for heart failure
Non selective beta blockers would be contraindicated
Interesting, my material says that 2nd and 3rd gen are used :/
Idk what that means
I know them as selective and non selective
And I know the beta blocker used for heart failure
Is metroprolol
Which is selective beta 1 blocker
carvedilol is 3rd generation BAB so nonselective
2nd gen - Metoprolol and Bisoprolol
3rd gen. e.g. Nebivolol and Carvedilol
Yup
Now carvedilol is a non selective but thatās now why itās used for heart failure but itās used because of its antioxidant properties and decreased the heart failure progression
So hence
Beta 1 blockers used in heart failure and non selective are contraindicated except carvidolol due to its antioxidant properties
Make a thesis paper on it. The hypothesis is in the chat lol
I see, but the effect on the receptors remains the same no?
It he only reason itās used itās for itās other effect, but the prescribing doctor would have to decide if the patient is at stage 1 heart failure
alright
Then itās perfect for carvedilol and wonāt effect the cardiac output to much due to its peripheral dial at ion
Dilation
Iām sorry thatās not what I mean
The patient would be given carvidelol as a beta blocker but itās not that strong due to its non selective properties so the patient will less likely to feel bradychardic during their day. But it would be given as a primary drug or the initial stages of heart failure due to its effect of reducing the progression of heart failure to stage 4.
Once itās reached the stage 3, then carvedilol would be contraindicated because the heart failure reached to a point where there is no return and mortality wonāt change.
Alright, interesting. Thank you for investing time into this :)!
But it wouldnāt make any difference if the patient was given metroprolol
Itās just hope to delay death
No wrrys. Good luck
damn, enjoy the ride kiddo
Hi guys, do you recommend this book? how good is it? Thank you
The facilitated diffusion of glucose consists of the entry of glucose into cells in case of hypoglycemia?
any tips for learning drug names?? im only in first year and thereās already so many to learnš
flash cards and routine tbh
keep repeating them start with a certain number that you're comfortable and then just keep adding them and rehearsing at some point you'll just know them all, what i do then is pick 10 random names and rehearse them each day..
Idk depends really. For United States medical examination they removed drug sames from the exam but will ask based if MOA and side effect
I used that book alot in my embryology classes š my teachers love it š
I used Langman too, but I don't know if it exist in English š¤
I have the book in physical and in Spanish, just because people speak English here I have to do it in English š thank you!
jajaja same, I don't know who talks in spanish. Those 2 books saved me in embryology. My teachers hate the Langman but I think it is useful
what country do you go to med school in?
In Chile š
Damn
what's bio alive ?
i studied embryology from BRS Embryo
wasn't too shabby, i recommend it
Anki!
if you have patience and discipline, it's dense as well
pretty sure by the time you're in year 4 or 5 you'd know all mainstream drugs from the sheer number of times you come across them

i have a physiology exam coming up, any suggestions for some books ??
@slow crag guyton and hall textbook of medical physiology
yeah im currently using that one
its the best imo, but if you think that its too big you may want to try its short version
tbh it doesn't feel big but i wanted to explore more books for more information.
Boron is pretty comprehensive
thats completely up to you then, but if you want my opinion guyton's the most complete book about physiology
whoever reads it is completely fine
But I'd suggest using guyton and reading articles on ncbi if you wanna go into more detail
i agree ^
Or you can use system specific books
JB West for Respiratory physiology
Pappano and wier for CVS
Koeppen and Stanton for Renal
thanks guys !

hello, i'm new here! may i ask if there's any tips on studying anatomy? im currently a first year medical student
my finals is in 2 months :')
I really enjoyed studying with complete anatomy app/software by 3D4medical. I also recommend youtube videos, for me visualization was the key:).
i see!! thank you so much
it'll be great to see cadavers irl though, because of covid my entire first year is online and it sucks man
I had my course before COVID hit, but I can imagine your situatio:(.
I used https://anatomytool.org/ a lot, for the rest i used schematics that were provided by my uni and ofcourse begin early and keep rehearsing.
i see i see, thank you!!
anatomy is really easy if you really try to understand the subjects, it's not all bout memorising.
Seeing that you still have 2months left. It will prob be fine :)
hopefully hahaha so many things to study D:
I read only ncert ...
Use netters atlas, every structure, every relation you read about , try to find it in the atlas, if you can't find them, try Google images, but most of it is in the book, by the time you're done and you're asked to recall a particular relation or the course of an artery/nerve you'll remember the pictures from atlas like the back of your hand, also studying this way is immensely gratifying
NCERT = GOD
Anatomy is easy for me to understand š I just love flesh
Yup.. for those chapters ncert is more than enough
you cant really understand much of anatomy without visual memory unless you know your embryology
honestly anatomy is just about visual memory, there isnt much to understand unlike physiology

ha sanyone here read greeenfields scientific surgery
if yes then plz tell me i have some doubts related to a chapter in that book
Any neet aspirant here?
is anyone taking the september MCAT?
Hey guys just wanted to say I wish you all the best for your studies and y'all can do it , I believe in you . I know it s very tough, but we all do it for a reason ! Thanks for providing a supportive community !
Thanks

I really recommend you watch Acland's Video Atlas of Human Anatomy - all parts are on youtube. Takes a few hours but it's worth it. Also Acland teaches you like you're basically in the lab with him, so no sketches and pictures but all real tissues and cadavers. Really helps with topography as well š
Do you know whether Beta 3 Receptors are located on fatty tissue in general or only specifically on brown fatty tissue ?
I think overall adipose tissue is with Beta 1 receptors and Beta 3 are specifically on brown
no problem, good luck with studying šŖ š
Any high schoolers in HOSA? Iām thinking about doing HOSA during junior year, but idk much about it. Could yāall please tell me more?
Ayyo someone with even an OUNCE of knowledge on atropine come thru and HELPPP
atropine stops the parasympathetic system by blocking all the muscarinic receptors. So, in a way- it causes sympathetic response and activates fight or flight response. Pupils dilate- so more light can enter, secretions decrease( both in GI and respiratory), decreases urinary and gut motility.
does anyone have tips for memorizing arm & leg muscles? :ā) I always forget half of them again after two days or so...
how do you tell the difference between arteries and veins in a cadaver
arteries have thicker walls than veins
ye sure but external appearance wise
sometimes on the cadaver they have the same thickness
or like they look like the same type of vessel
I drew forearm muscles on myself and it helped me remember
ohh yeah you're right, I forgot about that
arteries hold their shape and veins collapse
also sometimes there is dried blood in the veins so they might appear a bit darker
i see thanks
Thanks, I might try that
@tranquil axle theres a program called complete anatomy its like a 3D simulator of the human body its free:)
are you sure it is free?
i mean i have it for free
Ok, me too but because university bought license for students
It's a good program, unluckily it's poorly optimised
it takes some second to get the input, when you "UNDO" it counts also movements of camera, there aren't the shortcuts that all other programs use (like CTRL+Z)
you can clearly see it was made for Apple devices and from people nearer to the medic field than the informatics.
I think I sweared more using Complete Anatomy than in my entire life (used it for hundreds hours).
So true hahaha
Hi guys. I need some advice. I am thinking to go for healthcare and hospital management as a post grad degree. Do you all have any information about this. Any comments are welcomed ā¤ļø
Can somebody tell me whats the difference between hair follicle and hair bulb on longitudinal section?
helew
@proud sable
i am taking it in january
by memorizing which one is more medial if they are close, and see from where they are coming from where they are going to.
hi folks
hi yolks
I don't think there might be much of a difference but hair follicles attached the hair to skin and hair bulb forms the base of hair follicles And in the point of longitudinal view hair follicles are located on the upper side while hair bulbs are deepened inside the skin which we call Reticular Dermis
Hello, I'm currently studying at university and I have a final exam in biochemistry and microbiology next week, can you recommend some sources for me to practice. And I have learned that the ap test is quite similar to this test, can I use this source? thanks in advance

I wish we had something like this in Italy..practice questions are useful. It seems at least at my university they don't provide them I could create my own, but if professors created them for students it would be good. Then I could ask someone who took the exams already or use some practice questions in English and translate them into Italian..they work best if they are specific for the program of study anyway

Hello I wanted to ask what is reflex arc in nervous system
Please let me know asap thanks
@fallen badge you asked "asap" something you can just google
I mean, it makes sense to ask for an explanation, but definitions can be found easily
Yea I meant to say the explanation
here's a quick simple explanation

hey theree does anyone by any chance have GAMSAT resources they could share please?? thankyouuuu
positive signifies the presence of Rh Antigen and negative signifies the absence of Rh antigen. The progeny will inherit both the genes, one for the presence of Rh, and the other for absence (as one parent is +ve and the other -ve). Simply put, antigens are nothing but certain proteins on the membranes of our blood cells. As the progeny will be inheriting 2 genes, one to express the Rh antigen (ie, make that protein), and the other not to express the Rh (ie, not make that protein), the cellular machinery will, in the end, make that protein (express Rh) [hope you can understand why]. By this notion, we can say that all the possible progenies will be (Rh)+ve.

Hi guys is there someone who can explain the difference between Action potential and end-plate potential??
Positive Potential change in muscle fibre is End plate potential
Thank you!!
@jaunty glacier did you really understand?
@odd hound i tried to understand what you wrote by searching the internet, and would you check whether my understanding is right?; EPP is graded potential (not all-or-none) at muscle end plate , changing the membrane into positive
@odd hound thnx!! im self teaching with brs physiology for next semester
Ohh nicee all the best
Hi guys
i'm wondering something
so I slacked off the whole semester of med school and idk how did i pass but now i wanna get back to studying, idk if i should learn the subjects from the last semester first or should i start learning this semester subject?
First of all have a solid basis: anatomy, path. Physiology and pharmacology, reading Sono, X-ray CT, MRI and labs
Then go into the clinical stuff
And yes, histology and path. Anatomy are important as well, but for those you need to understand the basics and only go deep in the field of your future speciality
thank youu
Don't know if this is the right spot to ask this but i was wondering if anyone has a good ankideck for ENT ? . Zanki isn't as specific as i like . Especially not for my university tests.
Make your own if you want to, but the better alternative is a notion file with the toggle feature
And then do it for the disease as a whole, don't just open a file, which becomes an accumulation of different facts
Alright. I was making my own for ophthal regardless but i wanted to see if there were any supplementary decks maybe. Regardless thank you for the advice. I haven't tried segregating the deck itself. Will do so.
hii!! umm im not in a medical school nor majoring medicine or anything like that, however, i AM intrested in becoming a PA. As well as intrested into learning about the basic human body/functions for the last 2 years of my high school years (to let see college how passionate I am working in the medical field) and I was wondering, what are your guy's recommendation for starting off/learning the basic?
If you wanna learn some basic physiology i would recommend the book physiology by Linda Costanzo. Great overview of all the bodily systems and a lot of med students swear by it. It's not overly detailed but i've been using it during med school with great success. There's so much more to medicine like patho, anatomy, biochem but this is a great start if u just wanna get a feel for the basic functions of the body and organs
And if you really wanna know the how chemical reactions happen in body and other (kinda) detailed stuff you can try reading clinical chemistry
Really cool book
Clear and show you the idea straight without being complicated
I really recommend it if you want to work or study in the hospital labs
And it have some stuff about organs not that detailed at all
If you want a fully detailed book about organs i think their is a book called "hareson's" i think its the name of it
Rh-ve blood group is homozygous recessive

does anyone have a tip how to retain all the info that i studied or a tip how to study anatomy and neuroanatomy.im struggling really bad cuz there is just toooooo much of it
study by chunking
start with one segment and make references of what they are
then move to different segemt
thats what I do any ways
im already doing that, even anki. theres just so many things and so little time
unlucky
besides repetition, your brain will only work soo fast and soo hard
there is legit no secret technique besides more repetition
well then thank you...ill try my best
good luck
@jade flame make notes and practice a lot with diagrams for anatomy atleast
Hi everyone has anyone here done anything related to dental reasearch?
@jade flame maybe tryining deep work could work
??
first. active recall and spaced repitition.
Second. Stop being a P****. There is nothing virtious about being weak or failing.
First
Dont stress your self
Second
Have a good sleep amount
Third
Try reading some of the info that you red from time to time to keep it in your head
It's rude calling someone a p*.You don't know my situation or anyone else's situation so u sir don't have permission to call me like that.I only asked for tips and not for u to use offensive language, there's no need for that.
Have a great day
have u tried kenhub?
Hey guys, I have a question about Psychiatry. Could anyone help me?
(Please @ me or dm me if you can help otherwise I won't be able to see your message)
Hi everyone! I'm a med biotech student and I'm in need of help with haematology/blood banking. A critical information lacking in the picture would be that the patient was transfused with irradiated blood products of packed rbc, platelets, FFP and cryoprecipitate only on the second transfusion. Could transfusion-associated graft versus host disease still happen with compatible irradiated blood products transfused into a immunocompromised patient? Also, could results of the reverse grouping be caused by the production of ABO antibodies by the B cells of the engrafted bone marrow typed O+? My team and I are in need of serious help with the explanation of the progression of his situation so any help would be very much appreciated š DMs are welcome!!
hello guys anyone know about Developed approaches for using induced pluripotent stem cells for in vitro modeling?
heys guys I am making an assignment discussing the adverse effects of Astrazenica and whether they r too much to prevent ppl from getting the vaccine or vice versa....any help is appreciated
not cool, that person was just asking for help
"Try reading some of the info that you red from time to time to keep it in your head" worst advice ever. Never waste time "re-reading" things, it's a passive form of learning and you won't keep anything. Instead do active recall as @cloud linden suggested you. The only time you read something is the first time, before creating flashcard (or questions), and eventually if you actually forget that subject completely and you're not able to active recall.
I did told you a well knowen cause it always help people if you want my personal advice i dont recommend you cause that will be hell
You have to be used to sleep 1 hour a day
And 1 hour for full day not 12 hours
And you have to think of the subject every single second no matter what happen
You gotta question your self about the info that yoy learned to see if you memorize it or not
You gotta talk about the info that you learned to make it remain in your mind
You got to ignore any convos except your "info" convos to make it better and easier to memorize
If you gotta go to talk to class mate , friend , etc you gotta talk about the info
Whut?
Yeah
No
Just treating you the way i treat ironic people
Yeah
Im personally dont need sleep in my life so i just sleep 1 hour as a break
Nice, hope you'll be fine with your dementia if you achieve to survive some years more
Bruh i can stay awake fir 1 week straight with no sleep at all
And i have been like that for 5 years
No problems
Functioning good
So why you adviced "Have a good sleep amount" before?
Not all the people same as me
Their is people that cant even think well if they only have 7 hours of sleep
And also depend on what they do
You would be dead now with 1hr/day of sleeping
Not every day
I use this system in my busy days like final exams and i do a sleep a good amount every weekend so
In my daily life i sleep 3 - 4 hours
And my maxim limit is one week with out sleeping
dude
If i try to push my limits i just might pass out , faint , broken thinking , weaking
My body is wrong but idc
multiples of 1.5hrs is best
like 3 hrs 6 hrs etc
4.5hrs
u wake up energetic
but no sleep at all isnt the best
and ur mind organizes the info u study while u sleep
Ik that
hence the idea of ppl memorizing in their sleep and how subconsious works
and thats why puling an all nighter before an exam is the worst thing u can do
I just do that while im awake idk how but their is no issus
so tell the guy that altho normal is ..... u can reach my point and say what u want
ik u r trying to help but dont give the guy tips he can't follow
Ok i just told him a well knowen tip cause people can handle it normaly with no issus
I would say 7-9 recommended
Depend on the person
if i were to sleep (and i got the time ) i would sleep 12 hrs a day cuz fk yeah why not
but in medicine u dont have that time
and read something about "sleep deprivation" and the role of sleep for memory (which is everything for a med student)
exactly
I do have actually. Not sleeping at least 7 hour, is like nerfing my performance the next day
so better not finish the work, than being slowed down to 50% the next day and starting a never-end cycle of not finished works
but, it depends by you
i am sry if i sounded rude or aggressive...i mean no such thing ā®ļø
thats very true...
1 hr/day anyway is insane, I think you should tell it to your physician, just in case it could cause damage
No you didnt
Thanks also im bad at english so i cant always say what i want so thanks!
ur english is quite good
I do this only in exams day
which is hard on ur body btw
Nah its not
My writing is baaaad
I suggest you using Anki. Since I use that tool, I can remember almost everything for the exam, without renounce to sleeping time
i wont go over every grammatical nuance u make...but i can understand what u mean so this is enough
Not always
I dont do exersizes usually so i dont feel tired or anything like that
Aaaand, I'm gonna go to sleep now. Hope you the best guys for your exams
K goodnight
ANKI is amazing but for example in my country, I make my own cards and it is so time consuming
gn
Yeah i know
I taught myself when i was kinda young
Im very good at speaking cause i used to watch alot like really alot of british movies so
why do RBCs dont have Endoplasmic Reticulum?
it simply has no use of ER...what is the function of Er ----> transport ptns produced by the nucleus to the Golgi Apparatus...thats smooth and rough has ribosomes for ptn production... ANyways if u focus u will find RBS are denucleated so no production of ptns so why the use of ER?
oh nice, thanks!

hello guys so im preparing to take my engineering exams later on this month and ik its already late but im trying to do my best but i cannot for some reason i cant even sit and study for like 30 mins even. So what i think is the case is deep in my mind i feel like im going to do awful for this examination(which i will if i dont start studying) so to justify the bad marks in the exam my brain restricts me from studying so when i get those bad marks im going to be like ha i didnt even study for the exam yet i got these marks which is kind of a mental excuse for not performing well and ive done this before i used to study like 2 days before a test and get bad marks even then so, what do you think about this more over how do i try to beat out this lazy self harmful mindset. Any advice will be very helpful for me thanks and sorry for my bad english.

how do you guys manage your time? how do you discipline yourself not to procrastinate/slack off?
Did you read Can't hurt me by David Goggins?
In short: it's you Vs your inner bitch(the mommy voice)
Dail it down and dail up the voice that calls you out on your bs.
as much as i agree with @cloud linden , sometimes you cant get it under control. the best thing you can do then is to do at least something, even if its low effort or not within your usual capabilities
⢠Remember that from the inputs you put in your mind you will get outputs so build and healthy environment, for example I used to procrastinate much on YouTube cause of recommendations so I installed a plugin to block them (in this way I watch only things I choose to watch, not things an algorithm propose me to make me addict to their system - and of which I don't really have a real interest other than not doing an "harder thing" like studying). Apply a similar solution for any kind of social that drains your time. Another example of inputs-outputs: if you have a background of your favourite game or girl it will be easier for you to play that game or masturbate, not because you really wanted it, but because environment suggested you that.
⢠If you start the day watching something on social and watching TV you're just creating more dopamine receptors than harder actions like studying will give you. You will find studying more boring in such a way, so it's harder to discipline yourself in not procrastinating. If you want to boost your cortisol, have a run (or exercise): https://youtu.be/sxwgR6rrjNM?t=160
⢠The basic thought behind procrastination is "I can do that later" until the evening comes and you only then understand the "later" become "tomorrow", moreover you enter in a sort of cycle that repeats day by day.
Understand this:
- You can't do that later. "But there is still time" even if, there won't be time to do thing that you REALLY wanna do, because procrastination is just avoiding the work doing anything and not actually the things we would want to do in a normal situation.
- Each time you stop from doing what you're doing to get back later you lose more time than you think, so when you study start a "deep work mode" conscious that you will ONLY STUDY until "x o'clock".
⢠Sharpen the axe. Take some moments to improve your study methods (or other goods behaviour, like stopping procrastinating). If you're reading this you're just sharpening your axe now.
This video compares two days: one with exercise in the morning and one without, along with some of the science behind why you should exercise to improve productivity.

this way you keep getting into your habit, which will eventually become automatic
I'm gonna go to sleep so I finish that there. But know also that it takes 66 days to create a strong habit that you will keep over time. So, each time you procrastinate, you're breaking your streak (and the habit won't create).
Suggested books:
The One Thing by Gary Keller
Deep Work by Cal Newport
Atomic Habits by James Clear
read atomic habits and reading deep work atm xD
You won't regret. Save the best parts on your computer and review them weekly and they will be even more effective on long term.
Good night everyone, hope you the best š
good night m8, thanks for the extra tip š
Thank you so much for answering my questions!! I really appreciate it @molten hollow @serene vapor @cloud linden
F*** that shit "you cant get it under control". You always can. Your mind has the ultimate advantage over you. it is in exactly those moments, when it pulls every bad memory or thought out, that you need to double down, give every ounce of your being and persevere. At one point it will shut up.
Okay, In my experience it happens some times. I'm not saying you should lie down and give up, but doubling down CAN (not saying it always does) have a negative effect.
Again
in my experience
not saying what i say is true
or the only "truth"

ANKI and MNEUMONICS
all the way
there is nothing spaced repetition cant fix...and there is no better algorithm for spaced repitition than ANKi
why do i feel like I am actually sponsored lol
but ANKI is that good
LMAOJSDF but yeah i already use anki
thats actually why i ran here out of frustration it took me like ..... more than ten tries just to remember palivizumab
like it kept coming up on anki and i was still strugglin loool
but its all good now hehe dk how i did it but it stuck mehehe
I dont know if this is the right place but i have to write a motivational letter for University for medicine and i wanted to ask if there's anybody who's good at writing those because I just dont know how to start
some stuff u need to change the anki settings for
so that u see more frequently
i spen time actuallly trying to understand the algorithm and change the frequencies
altho it is really big game
sometimes it helps....if u want i might give u the screnshots of the settings i use to cram certain stuff
mark stuff that really annoys u and put it in a separate deck and change its settings hopefully this helps
sorry my dear........ :((((((
omg yes pls that would help
well be honest in ur writing really no matter what the subject abt.

hey guys, at the end of august I will pass an exam to enter in medschool, but in mid august I have 1 week of hollidays with some friends, do I need to try hard right now, and fully enjoy my vacation without working on this exam ? what do you think about that ?
Hey! Did you have just one week of holidays during the summer ? I don't know the level to enter in Medschool in your town.... but globaly, medexam are pretty hard. So, I think you can start to work hard now, take one week if you need it and continue to work just after.
actually I have 2 months of holidays but I spent most of this time forstudying
If you spent 2 months studying just chill and revise a bit in this time, don't overload and overstress yourself right before it

Vigorously
??
@vocal dock pls help
To be honest, don't even skip the brush. Follow the doctor advice is utmost important.
if u gargled too vigorously, it might affect ur braces too. maybe a slight displacement. but it does affect.
any medstudent from india who is currently in final year wants to be study buddies? š„ŗ
Well not brushing it for one day won't do any damage but dont let that become a habit.Having braces demands taking care of ur teeth even more than u usually do, since its more likely for food to get stuck.
You can skip for one night because it isn't adequate time for bacteria to develop
If swisshing water in my mouth would cause my braces to move they would come when I eat or brush lol
Yes totally I never skip it only once or twice when I am extremely tired
@proud sable -donāt skip
Though you are tired, you still have to brush bro, brushing is actually compulsary for your case.

if you do the cross for all the f1 gen with normal people there would be 2 sons in all the cases out of which the carrier daughters of F1 gen will have one colorblind sons
I think because of the concentration gradient. If glucose was stored as just glucose, the liver would not uptake it after the limit was hit. Because glucose is stored as glycogen (in the liver), liver can uptake more glucose because of that (like it doesn't recognise the glucose stored in glycogen).
Also glycogen is very easy to break down back into glucose, because of it's shape. That is why it is the first "fuel" for the body in times when we don't eat (for example during sleep)
And when talking about glycogen, be sure not to confuse between liver glycogen and muscle glycogen! Muscle glycogen can be only used by muscles, while liver glycogen that breaks down into glucose, can be transported through the bloodstream to any other tissues
This might be way too late lmao
Mitosis starts when there is a disturbance in the karyoplasmic index of the cell
KI = Vn/(Vc - Vn)
where
KI = Karyoplasmic index
Vn = Volume of nucleus
Vc = Volume of cell
Vc - Vn = Volume of cytoplasm
Basically in a large cell, nucleus fails to control the activity of the cytoplasm so to attain control, it divides into 2 cells
sorry for late reply but i just started my pta program this week wby

Yup it's monogenic
Does being underweight hv to do anything with hair loss?
There are people who are constitutionally underweight, so "being undereweight" I don't think is a problem, "becoming underweight" (so lose weight) instead could be for lack of proteins or other nutrients deficiencies (like vitamin C).
Anyway I don't think there are many (or any) physicians here, we're mostly students. So you should talk to your doctor if the question refers to yourself
hmmmm thx!
As long as you don't get near to other people (like 1-2 meters) and you keep attention to what you touch, you should be safe. You can also leave the mask if there isn't anyone nearby (running with a mask can hurt you, which is what you don't want if you run for health: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7306735/).
Remember too that 19-79% runners have got at least one time an injury (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4338213/) usually due to repetitive stress, so 1 hour/day could be even too much (for running). It would be better to run 30 minutes and make other exercises (like exercises with a mat: abs, yoga, cardio...) for the remaining half hour, if you want to dedicate 1hr/day to your body health!
ok thanks for the information mate. : )
Perfect to keep your health!
As a student, physical activity also boosts your efficiency (concentration and memory)

Aging

Lack of sleep
Iron deficiency
Dehydration
Smoking or drinking
Consult a dermatologist if they're giving you problems
prolly lack of sleep and genetics i dont smoke nor drink
Bruh, sleep. Sleep increase your concentration, your memory and as you're <18yo it's essential for your growth.
For example, height is 80% genetics and 20% environment (and once your growth plate fuse... forget to grow more, you take what you allowed your body to do). Sleeping is so important when we're young. If I could go back at liceum I would've slept at least 8 hrs/day. No sense to study till later, if the next day you are like a zombie... and if you don't reach your maximum potential growth š
They start hearin things inside a womb around 18th week and in 24th they can detect sounds from outside. Why? I assume cause their ears are developed enough to start hearing.
Any idea wt r the side effects of taking a vitamin tablet at an irregular timing?
But all they could hear must be just muffling because of all the layers of the mother's body plus amniotic fluid, right?
No such side effect but if its something that has been prescribed to you, then YES
oh okay
this was actually a question my bio teacher gave us, thx a lot :)

is it normal to dream right after you fall asleep? @any med student there
My hopes and dreams come after i deceased
kind of; though the primary dreaming stage is during the REM sleep which occurs about 1h-1.5h after you fall asleep and lasts a few mins, but then there are a lot of cycles of REM per sleep period, around 4-5 and they increase in duration, so like 90mins of REM per 7-8h of sleep. However, you can dream in non-REM stages as well, so maybe if you were really tired you can start dreaming immediately after you fall asleep.
Are you a penguin?
You're sus
Serious answer: depending by time and temperature, you can die from hypotermia (this happens when your body temperature goes under 28°C according to clevelandclinic.org). Believe or not, after 20 hours you could still be alive (obviosuly there aren't scientific studies about it, but only cases happened by accident): https://www.insider.com/indian-man-after-being-trapped-in-freezer-for-20-hours-dies
Despite sleeping in a fridge is stupid, did you know that cold showers have lots of benefits instead? https://www.quora.com/What-benefits-will-I-see-from-cold-showers?no_redirect=1

Hey nw! Thanks for telling tho
how tall will i be by the time im fully grown 5'5 with shoes i guess at 14 im asian
šµāš«
depends on your mom and dad height
:o
doesnt it depend on what rate im growing ?
it depends on your hormones and growth rate but if there is no problem going up there your maximum height must be dependent on your parents there is a formula for boys : ( mother height + dads +13cm)/2 and for girls mother + dad -13cm)/2 its not 100% exact but its around that number. if i'm wrong correct me
Well, ur height mainly depends on genetics
If ur dad is around 6ft. then it's highly possible that u will be more that 6ft. (Applies mostly to boys, but also girls too)
Well not that much
Well, the formulas can be rly inaccurate but yea that's the formula
And yea, ur height also depends on ur diet
hey if you still havent written the UCAT im done to have a study group call

Iām trying to apply for med but Iām on the fence on whether I should apply for med or pharmacy
What should I apply for
C what u like then choose,
U only have one choice bro, but I think the med is better cuz u will be able to help more people š¤š
The idea of pharmacy seems good cause itās a more relaxing time learning science and u get paid well
Med is good but itās stressful and when u get paid as a junior doctor in the uk itās not that good

hey people who are studying in the medical field, for context im not a medical student but i heard somewhere that if the fourth cervical vertebrae (i hope thats right) of the spine is damaged it gives a feeling in the body of being drowned in water and causes swelling. is that true?
im not sure but according to some sources if your spinal cord is damaged/injured you will have sever pain/pressure in the back/neck and you will have problems with your legs and arms
i hope that the stuff i said is true cause im not sure of the resources
have a great day
thanks!

hello anyone know how to get free pdfs of medic books ?
<@&717391911132069929> fast nitro ayy
.
Google it š ( the book you need + free pdf )
that seems a little illegal, not sure if it against the server rules. But yeah just searching as pdf should get you to some site
Under epidemiology would be better, I also made a report on EBOLA virus so I usually put it under epidemiology, but if you want reference you can use Levinson Microbiology book, free pdf are available on internet, you can get an idea from there.
<@&717391911132069929>
wtf carl, i literally put that in the bot and he's not deleting

Hii! I hope it's not too late, but I bought the computer app Complete anatomy. It shows everything in a 3D model, and you can turn it and zoom in, and also you can remove and add layers. I still use it sometimes, it gives a great mental picture of how and where things are š
no ! not at all :D
thank you so much I'll try it out too, sounds really interesting too !
is it available on mobile devices too ? or like on iPads ?
nvm I'll look it up xD
@lone tree which year?
I believe you can get it for ipad as well. There might be other alternative apps, but just to let you know, that there is alternatives to physical books š
Hey does anyone of you use the anki iPad App
And if so, is it possible to draw the Flashcards instead of typing them?
Does methylation of N-terminus of histone H3 lead to decrease in its binding strength to DNA thus relaxing the structure? (I can't find the answer on Google.. I don't understand the jargon used in the research papers)
when a methyl is added to the DNA, it makes impossible to read it since the transcription would be repress, methylation is most commonly used in muted genes
also, the methyl binds to the 5 position in a cytosine
if you're searching to relax the structure, acetyl should be binding to the histones
Yeah Iām aware of how methyl affects the DNA, tho its binding to histones is what I canāt get hold of. But I got it now!! Apparently both acetylation and methylation of N terminus decreases the binding strength of histone to DNA. (phosphorylation doing the opposite) Thank you though for your help :))
