Does this also allow for android?
I haven't updated vivaldi in my android yet and I don't see it, but if you really need it proton has an app for their vpn in play store
you already know python and wanna practice? just the syntax? exercises? wanna create projects to practice your python?
if you want to take some exercises this website is good:
Ooo thankmsm
I kinda knew it was true, but man it is very true, haven't done any real tests, just opening each browser with btm and checking the ram consumption and true it is. Still i'm not sure how things will be with a little bit of chromium extensions, like adblockers and such, so for customization vivaldi is the one that uses less ram, but it uses more than vanilla chromium
but, you were right dude
but vivaldi will support manifestV2 (better adblockers) for a while, meanwhile chromium it's right now on manifest v3 (less support for adblockers)
tbf it could also be that it is less on vivaldi when many tabs are opened
Hello everyone, i was wondering if anyone has passed security + 701 and if there are any tips on studying. I'm currently using all of professor Messer free training course and taking notes on each video and topic, i also use pocket prep for security+ to test myself with different topics, and finally i use chat gbt to give me various questions on each topic and im currently getting 80% or higher. Is this a good way of learning 701 or should i be using other tools. anything helps. Thank you
I just build an ryzen 5 8400f rx7600 pc with ddr5 but still getting low dps
How to solve
did u plug in the monitor into the gpu? theres also an hdmi port on the motherboard
also check refresh rate in windows settings
and look for drivers maybe
or did u not mean to write fps?
Fps
Yes i did connect with hdmi
i mean that u should use hdmi to connect to the gpu and not to the motherboard
but if its not any of the issues i mentioned i honestly have no idea
I have used a dp port. Better than the hdmi for connecting to tbe gpu
As my cpu can only provide video through the gpu
maybe run a benchmark to see where it bottlenecks, could be something else than the gpu
but install drivers first
Hello, I'm interested, how is it going with you?
I’m contemplating switching my major from Informatics with a concentration in Cybersecurity to Computer Science with a concentration in Cybersecurity. I think logically employers would respect a CS degree over an Informatics degree. I’m trying to make the decision before the start of the Fall 2025 semester. If you have an opinion on this, please feel free to respond.
this is only based on what i've read online but yes, i think employers would prefer a cs degree as it tends to be more well rounded.
have you looked into the differences in the curriculum at your university? as cs majors usually do not only more maths, but also at a higher level and tend to also have to take physics classes. i think that'd help to keep the door open with more possible career options. cs is more theory heavy than IT though. but a good foundation in theory will help you to have a solid understanding of the concepts once you're actually applying them.
however, from what i know, maths, especially higher level maths and let alone physics, isn't really needed for cybersecurity. so it's up to you if you're willing to take on more maths and maybe even physics. if it aligns with your interest and you want to keep your career options more open then i'd recommend switching to cs.
i'm a cs student though! so my recommendation comes with bias. but i think either way, both majors are still good! i prefer cs since i like maths and i want to keep my options open for more maths heavy fields. i also don't mind doing theory.
if you can, try to consult with an academic advisor at your university.
If I were to upskill as a non CS student (med) by myself and work remotely
what are the stuff id have to learn?
Thank you so much , I think I’m going to switch to CS. The math and physics don’t scare me because, I understand that’s just one of the things you have grind. Nevertheless, I think I will speak to an advisor regarding my situation.
no worries. i’m glad maths and physics don’t scare you! that wasn’t always the case for me haha, but i find it fascinating now. and i agree, they’re just things you have to grind. best of luck and hopefully an advisor can help guide you :)
that honestly depends on the kind of work you want to do. cs is a huge field
well what are my options?
I'd pick anything that has the least amount of math and can get me earning lmao 😭
whats in demand? and like i need to *earn *a lot i basically need money from side, so i can pay for my med university
the market seems to be saturated though so you’d need to make yourself stand out
yeah then not that 😭
the cs market in general is pretty saturated atm ngl
i know 😭 😭 thats why idk what to pick
trends are constantly changing and i don’t keep up with it so i just did a quick google search
ik you want to earn money and for a practical reason but honestly just pick whatever interests you the most
UX and web dev is too saturated
and software dev and full stack takes too much time right?
yeah no idc abt interest i jus care abt the demand in market and money 💀 i need to pay for uni
i’d say yeah, it takes a decent amount of time but not that long. the market is also just saturated in that area lol
you’re gonna struggle
omg 😭
you need to be interested in it to some extent
the entirety of CS is not my interest which is why im a med student so anything is same 🥹
are there other types of remote jobs you can consider?
I dont think so
there is CS and copywriting idk if theres any other ways
my dad is worked in CS and he's almost 60 now
and he earned crazy amt
but now hes retired and i have to earn for my uni
but now its saturated and idk what to pick
do you have interests in copywriting?
💀 idk anything works if it pays i swear
if it pays its interesting
and yes cs pays well, i have quite a few family members and family friends who work in the field
then it’ll be anything tbh
just choose whatever will be easiest for you
let's say UI/UX or frontend dev
is that an easy path for me to pick? but thats the most saturated right
because the entire market is saturated regardless. the areas that aren’t are usually the ones that are harder to get into
yeah exactly 😭
i’d say it’s easy to get into those
i think it’s best to just give it a go
since im interested in remote, would people hire from a different country too? idk how this works
you’ll never know until you try
yes
what would be my entry level pay on avg? (from wherever you are from is also fine)
if you have the skills they want, and you have the portfolio to show that you can apply those skills, and you market yourself good enough then you can find remote work
that depends the kind of work you get. if you’re interested in having a fixed job or doing contract work
oooh id be more interested in fixed cause thats gaurenteed pay every month
you can search for the average pay in your country then
the average pay in my country won’t be of relevance to you
oh wont other countries hire fixed jobs on remote?
yes but i’m not entirely sure how much the pay would be if you’re converting between currencies
you’re probably going to want to get remote work from employers in your country or countries where the currency is not too far off
like i live in nz and if i wanted to do remote work i’d probably be best looking for work in australia
our currencies are close but they pay better lol
tbh i’ve never done remote work so i’m just sharing what i know from having been interested in it before
if i were to try in ux/ui or in frontend where do i start from?
i’m not familiar with those fields, particularly ux/ui but i’m assuming you’d have to learn design software, like something from the adobe suite
but as for front end, definitely start with html and css. they’re your foundations and are easy to get into. after that maybe learn javascript? it basically makes your websites more functional
that’s the extent of my knowledge in those areas
whats your speciality in?
there are lots of free resources online for front end but i haven’t really explored it since middle school so i’m out of touch
i can’t really say i specialise in anything yet* since i’m just a first year cs student. but i have random knowledge about most areas. my main interests rn are cybersecurity and data science
can i do those?
cybersecurity? most likely. there are certifications you can earn online. but cybersecurity isn’t an entry level field. you usually have to start off in something like IT support, like at a helpdesk.
as for data science, that’s maths so stats specifically and from what i know you’d need a relevant degree to get into it
oh nvm then 😭 ig ill try out frontend and copywriting both and see what works?
yes give those a go
those are much more easier to get into
hopefully you end up enjoying either
yesss tysm
best of luck!! mad respect for being a med student and working 🙏
Hello World
I’m an International Business & Trade student looking for a buddy who can help me out with Framer. For my final year bachelor project, I want to build a cool website to impress my teachers. I’ve already made the prototype in Adobe XD. Of course, your time is valuable, so I’m happy to negotiate a price. DM me or reply to this message if you’re down to help a fellow student out!
Hi guys, I'm having an issue with trying to install Linux Debian 12 Bookworm
About my situation:
-
Lenovo Thinkpad x1 Carbon Gen 8 (16gb RAM, 512gb ssd) , boots to BIOS and previously ran windows 10 pro with no issues
-
Trying to install Debian 12 Bookworm using a 2gb USB I created using balena etcher
I have never used Linux before and am fairly unfamiliar with things like programming and IT. I would have started with Linux mint but I require the use of x11 and KDE Plasma 5 (not 6) for my use case involving Krita and my drawing tablet
The first error message I encountered was "failure of key exchange and association." This problem was unexpected and I do not know where it may be coming from as I have never had any issues connecting to my wifi network using this password on any other devices. Multiple other devices were using the network when I received this message.
After this I decided to use my phone's hot spot. With this I was able to install the base system, but received the "Bad Archive Mirror" error after selecting United States (where I am), then selected the default archive mirror. After receiving the error message I attempted to connect to the US specific one but received the same bad archive mirror error.
I have now aborted the download and started over from scratch, wiping the USB and ISO files and rewriting them 3 times, and the same error messages occur in the same situations every time. If anyone has any ideas as to why I cannot connect to a network I have never had any past issues with, I would appreciate it.
i have had this issue on older debian version as well
like 4 years ago my track pad didn't work out of the box as well and i had to install the driver separately. I guess that your this device is new as well(my device new at the time). For debian it takes time to update. It tries to more stable so it doesn't have the newest kernels and updates. My recommendation is that if you want something like debina try out ubuntu in live (i am not a fan of ubuntu) and see if it works. If that didn't work check out endeavour os it is basically arch but you have the option to boot in live mode as well. i think that endeavour os will probably work. you can checkout fedora as well it is something between arch and debian in terms of updates.
just wondering, why do you need kde plasma 5 explicitly? and i know that if you use the complete installation iso (not the netinstall) you need more then 2gb for the usb stick
sorry if it's too long
btw writing this on debian 12
you can dm if you needed help
what's the same error you keep getting? "failure of key exchange and assocation" or "bad archive mirror?"
i haven't had those issues before but i'm happy to try and troubleshoot it with you if you still haven't solved it. i'm running nobara os atm which is fedora* based and i previously ran arch for a long time
Update: the issue happened to be the network, I set up a temporary 2.4g network and connected to that rather than the usual 5g network I use with everything else and I was able to go through the normal Debian install process, got to the very end where it asks the user to remove the USB and let it reboot, which I did, but it never came back up. It won't even boot to the BIOS anymore. The only thing that happens is when I plug it in, the red dot of the i in the thinkpad logo on the cover blinks red 3 times. I tried hitting the emergency reboot hole with a paperclip twice, both times pressing for exactly 10 seconds, and nothing happened.
tried to hard reset by removing the battery and holding down the power button for 15-20 seconds. Nothing changed, I still get the light blinking 3 times and no boot. I'm worried I either didn't remove the USB fast enough or removed it too late at the very end there
This device came to me with 92% battery health btw
it shouldn't matter if you didn't remove the usb fast enough or removed it very late after it asks you to remove it
so do you get nothing at all when you try to turn your device on?
Nothing
did you try the bios key for your device?
i think it's F1 for thinkpad
you basically spam press it at boot
Yeah, nothing happens, not even the Lenovo splash screen comes up
so aside from that and removing the battery, have you tried anything else?
No, I'm not sure what else I could do
okay just checking to see what you've done so i can get rid of it as a possible solution
thanks
how long have you owned the device?
Less than a week, I got it off ebay
how long were you running windows 10 for?
I'm not sure how long the device was running it, I only had it for a couple days
It came to me with windows 10 pro already installed
I do
could you try connecting it and booting up?
i don't think it'll help tbh but easiest possible solution to cross out
Yeah nothing comes up
by any chance did you get the thinkpad for a really good deal?
i'm thinking it could be a hardware issue
you were able to run windows 10 fine so that's why i'm not 100% certain on it but you also seem to have only ran it for a short period of time
No it seemed a pretty average price for the specs
The seller had another one of the same model and specs and it ended up selling for the exact same price as the one I bought
I can send you the listing if you want?
no it's okay. they said nothing was wrong with it? does the seller have good reviews?
98.2% positive from 246 feedback reviews and they sell a lot of other thinkpads. The description of the listing I bought said "tested and everything else is working. Fresh install of win 10 pro. Battery capacity is 46860/51010Wh"
got it. would you be comfortable removing the cmos battery?
there's a guide here (coin cell battery removal)
you would just be removing it then putting it back in
Yeah I can try that, I was planning on taking it to a technician later today at a computer repair shop
ohh it might be best to just take it to a computer repair shop. is it a trustworthy one?
Yeah it's a local place that's pretty highly recommended
okay, i'd recommend just taking it first there then. hopefully they can sort it out. just let them know
- what you were doing - you were trying to install linux and were able to complete the installation process until you tried to reboot the device. but nothing longer appears at boot and you're unable to boot into bios even after trying to press the bios key
- what you've tried to help solve it - removing the battery and holding down the power button for 15-20 seconds
let them know that you noticed you get 3 blinking lights. from my googling, depending on the thinkpad model (i think something to do with older and new models), this could either be nothing or it could indicate a hardware issue
if you want, try to also suggest removing the cmos battery
Thanks man I'll let you know what happens
i~~'ll also just add that it could also possibly be settings you might've had to configure in the bios before trying to install linux, or something you did during the installation process.~~ nvm i feel like it's likely a hardware issue. lots of factors to consider, but hopefully the repair shop can help. feel free to let me know how it goes. best of luck!
brought to the shop and i'll probably hear back from them in 24 hours or so
okay fingers crossed they can fix it
also i'm assuming, that if they do fix it, they'll tell you what was wrong with it (i've never been to a repair shop since i just fix everything myself so i'm not sure how they work but anyway)
if that's the case, try to also ask them what they did to fix it. note it down, so that if you encounter the same issue again in the future then you know how to troubleshoot it. but also, if they were (unfortunately) unable to fix it, it'd also still be good to ask what they tried. that way, if you want to take it to a different repair shop then you can let them know what the previous one has tried, or if you want to try to fix it yourself then you know what's already been tried
just if you want to 🫡
thanks man i'll see what happens
got the laptop back! its all working now, turns out i just had the right charger. kinda embarrassing it was such an incosequential issue but im glad everything is okay
woohoo!! glad it's all good now. and that's okay, at least it didn't turn out to be a super serious problem. are you able to boot into debian?
also just realised i said earlier i'm using a debian based distro when i meant fedora oops.. but anyway...
I finish my portfolio. If anyone can give a feedback https://qmikeehxz.vercel.app/
hello, anyone here using threejs? super new and wanting to know how I can embed my model glb file. IDK y it refuses to show up using my code. Ive tried 2 yt vids so far none of em'll make it show up lol
Hey i'm still looking for a buddy who can help me out with Framer. For my final year bachelor project
i buyed bose quitecomfort ( 2024 ) for around Rs. 16k but its Anc is terrible indoors which other headphones should i m planning to buy Realme Buds Air 6 pro with 52dB anc will that be any better or CAN ANYONE SUGGEST ME ANY BETTER OPTION ( under $100 ) except APPLE ?
for the price, and if they're available on your region, try the QCY Melobuds Pro. Honestly I don't think any TWE can beat them at that price.
can anyone provide good resources to learn dsa from?
currently just solving basic questions from hackerrank and occasionally using grokking algorithms for reference.
Striver, Aditya Verma (DP in Hindi ig), Kunal Kushwaha (For Java), Code N Code etc.
Guys is there anyone who uses scriptable on ios here?
https://github.com/jigwawwf/scriptable-habit-tracker can you try this if you have it on your phone I don't know if it is complitable with other phones
looked into this
this is so cute
Is it working properly on your phone?
i dont have an iphone I apologize
no need to apologize 🙏
Hey!, My company got a ransomware attack on their main NAS and I was wondering if you guys think there is any way to recover some crucial files that got encrypted (I understand that it probably won't be possible) also apparently an antivirus can be installed to the NAS, could this maybe solve the problem? Excuse my lack of knowledge on this topic 😭
best channels to learn c basic or c programming language
sry if reply is late but
- idt data recovery is possible as prolly your entire raid array is encrypted (if u are using a raid setup)
- antivirus on a nas is v rare cauz usually u use other precautions like closing unused ports and filtering n stuff
how exactly was your nas setup?
was it truenas on bare metal or in a hypervisor?
scam?
yo guys i am preparing for sde interview can someone get me resource for cs subjects( dbms , os , cn , oops) and system design , it would be better if they are concise and short 🙂
hey guys im starting electrical engineering this year, should l invest into a pc, a new laptop (i have the m1 macbook air rn), audrino kit or some similar stuff... any pointers and tips would be greatly appreicated
idk what programs that electrical engineer students use but if your laptop has 16gb of ram you are good to go it will cover most of your works imo
a breadboard, arduino uno, a bunch of wires, 5 leds of all 4 types, a full set of capasitors and resistor sheets, a frw inductor coils and a ldr, hall sensor based on course requirment is a base
now the question is
what are u doing?
6502 based stuff? matlab?
for most stuff the m1 will be fine but matlab and pspice needs more juice
just look at your course work and decide
what kind of coding should l learn for electrical engineering, i wanna start now and do it in my free time for audrino projects too, what websites and resources should l be using? (first time never done any coding in my life)
also look at ben eater on yt
and learn c/c++ for the heck of it
also a spice program, matlab and some form of schematic program will be needed
thank you so much bro
Well i am in college and i see most of em doing computers pythons and what not so for basic automations and visualizations on physics and chemistry do i really need to learn python or could i use AI and maybe improve the prompts to fulfill my objective?
if youre told to use python id recommend just learning it, or at least the basics. If you only rely on AI without any python knowledge it will be pretty painful to debug, but with basic python skills, which can be learnt in a few hours it already helps a lot
looks greate dude,
thanks mate
looks clean twin luv it❤️🩹
that wierd cauz usually u see R or top level jullia programing for that
i guess your python use case is just numpy and basic ai initialisation
in which case python is nice but not the only thing out there
spot on i only seem to work with numpy and matplot
Hi there! Could you take a look at my portfolio and share your feedback? https://rickinshah.vercel.app
what do u do tho?
your site looks like a normal collage potfolio site
if u looking for a corporate job, use a light theme with submenus instead of a single scroll so that the bots companies use have a hard time reading text in one go
if u a front end or something make it more engaageing
i once saw this site and its the perfect example of engagement https://bruno-simon.com/
this site was from a reddit post there are a bunch of good ones i suggest u see them all
also NEVER put your phone number and personal details on a public faceing site before anything remove your resume at once
all comunications should be through a dedicated email address seperate from personal email
oh also putting vs code and neovim and arch as "skills" makes u look like a tryhard
most senior devs have used emacs, this is true around the world including india, they will not be impressed
this includes other ides u put there like ellipce
i mean yeah i am a college student and not a frontend developer but thanks for the feedback
so i shouldn't add IDE? just the technologies and tools?
yee
tell me straight if i had to employ u what use does u knowing nvim have?
yes i get your point
before anything PLS PLS PLS REMOVE YOUR RESUME. YOUR PHONE NUMBER AND EDUCATION DETAILS SHOULD NEVER BE ON A PUBLIC FACEING SITE
you are practically doxxing yourself
isn't resume a good thing on portfolio?
no your resume is practically just your linkedin profile
look as most potfolio sites, none will have a resume pdf
i mean i haven't posted anything on linkedin profile tho
dude.........do it
ohhh now that you pointed it out
thats your profile
i see i will be doing that
also the green boxes on your github are also important
fill it up
yeah but that's kind of hard
commiting to repo everyday
a lot of ppl look and documentation and fix a typo
nobody cares if its a repo or a comment or something
just activity
look for typos and fix it
ahh i see in that way i can make a script or something for that
that is a dpuble edge blade cauz if someone in tye rare chance does see it.....
then u know
😂 yeah valid
btw i have done the changes like removing ide and resume from the site
thata fine man i highly sudgest looking at that thread on reddit on the best potfolio sites
a lot of insperation there
fuck my speeling is bad
yeah but those are too creative like using threejs and all. css and designing related things i am kind of bad
dude.........i am sure most companies want that unless u looking at banglore tech or a corporate it job
there are a lot of normal sites there using astro.js as well
a few react based
just look at those to gage competition?
also i know a lot of ppl using web asembly in their sites
ohh i will definitely check it out
the point is tou need to wow the guy looking at your site
yeahh got your point. I appreciate your feedback
welcom :)
can someone guide me from where i can learn dsa
If you are new to dsa and know the basics of c/c++. I would suggest the dsa course by abdul bari on udemy.
Okiee
hi guys what do you think about the desing of this web app ? is the 1st test of the FreeCodeCamp js course
https://mrp-god.github.io/-TEST--polindrom-Web-APP/
- lets me know if the color pallet is being used somehow correcetly for a light theme
i dont have the pallet (dont know what i was thinking) but i used this setup of colors
--background: white;
--primary-elements: #BF9264;
--secondary-elements: #6f826a;
--highlight: #BAD9A2;
--backgrond-secondary: #F7F4D2;
I think you should hit yourself for not making Enter key work
personally
but looks good
i guess u right , i have yet to find how i set keys as event listeners , thanks for the feedback 🙂
Guys can you please react to my latest post on LinkedIn
It's about my project "Blink Gaurd" actually it's a smart glasses that detects if the driver is about to sleep so it alerts him
looks nicee
and to call a function when pressing enter you can use a <form>
Thanks
u mean to use a form with an event listener on submit button?
would l have to do something like this as an electrical engineer (sorry i’m in my first year)
the beebuz project seems cool , what is that a reddit clone?
yea
oh wtf 😭 i have like nothing for mine so far
actually for non cs degrees a personal site is more for blogs n stuff
its not exactly a potfolio
blogs?
look at jeff geerlings personal site as an example
like the think facebook moms have?
no like arc technica and hackernews
resume is useless
the only e.e related thing i have on it is the code i know, my audrino projects so far and skills like soldering 🧑🏭
for proper engineering ypur cgpa and technical qualification are essential
your collage grade
stuff like certificates from big institutes and workshops
i think my wam is like 90+
all subjects will have a number of credits associated
do i start applying for work experience now?
no
idk how its doen in your country but in india internships start in the fourth semester if u reach a set credit cutoff
what am i supposed to focus on as my degree progresses? cus i think my uni has compulsory 60 day work experience but that’s in my 3rd year
focus on life have fun
you will know when u need to know
💀 i feel so behind tho
ask your friends what they doing
its your first year its ligit the start
they aren’t rlly doing anything tbh
they js do the uni work and that’s it
yeah ig so, but when do i start worrying about the other things
look idk how it is where u live but usually first year is chill, second year is hell and 3 n 4 are where u do cirts and accolades n shit
ohh okay okay
idk everyone is chill but ig i js wanna get ahead
but maybe i js have tiktok brain
seeing everyone else being so far ahead gives me fomo
look as far as i am aware you ee ppl do fourer transform fourer series and stuff
do that for now
what the heck did u js say
i am sure u will figure what u need to do as time progresses
yeah kind of
it has feed, video conferencing, chatting, discord like communities and channel with roles(but is basic one not too advanced)
i made it as a university project
If you are interested, you can signup as it is open for everyone(just use a valid email cause it send mail for account activation)
i ll give it a look , nice stak u used
guys can i share someting , how many of you thnk that now is more worth to have laptop instead of a pc?
- before the common sense was if u need power u go with the pc,
beacuse laptop is less powerfull and the graphic cards as well - but now even if the grapic cards lacks is not so deep as before so
y not both
u mean why not both?
If portability is not the issue and you want a powerful gpu for like ML, gaming or rendering purpose then go for PC. If you have casual use then it doesn't matter, you can go for either laptop or pc.
yes
unless u are going for the monstrosities that modern nvedia cards are, a small itx case is enough to pack a punch while being easier to relocate
i know a few ppl who bought a small 10in rack and rack mounted their pc and networking gear in a small homelab set up
can pick it up and plop it whereever u feel like it
a laptop is only usefull for true protability
like walking around campus n stuff
it honesty depends on your uni or collage
is there a restriction on hi voltage in hostel rooms?
will a low powered chromebook be able to act like a terminal to a larger machine?
it honestly depends on a lot of factors
Yes for that u are right
i was thinking how if ur task are not havilly centered with graphcs and havy processing power , where 80% of people do not is good a laptop where before wasnt , recently I started using a laptop for my task and I find it more suitable for me
honestly modern laptops are very bad, would personally prefer a old thinkpad. i know a most ppl use laptops for low power uses so i guess a laptop is better
but more power never hurts
No worries I was talking with thikpas in mind , not to hold tho at least a trakpad
Ty for the heads up, imma get going on 2nd year’s material on the first :)
Depends on your goal, it’s cheaper to get the hardware for a PC + typically has better performance for the same money as a laptop in the same price range, but consumes a shitload more power (and depending on where you live, power can be expensive asf)
Personally I’m planning on using my M4 MacBook Pro as a machine to use docked + portable, with a pc for server tasks/gaming that can’t be done on an M4 mac
currently using my HP laptop as a desktop which I occasionally take with me, works well for most stuff cause it’s recent-ish, but hard to do any serious gaming with Vega graphics
And bonus for laptops is when they get old you can use them as power efficient servers or smth if you like 🤷♂️ - saying as I occasionally run my 2015 MacBook Air as a media server n stuff
guys what do u think of this web design , im trying to learn but i have no clue how to add dept to thosee canvas , in the canvas tere will be like a node graph like obsidian but with rectagles
Hey everyone! Can anyone help me how can I copy and paste into my VM from my host machine. It would greatly help me improve the time it takes to config it. Thanks in advance 🙂
you mean like copy and paste files and folders? what worked in my case was to create a shared folder between my desktop and the VM
usually in your vm manager(or wtv its called) you can configure it pretty easily. for virtualbox a rightclick on the vm in the vm list should offer a settings menu. IIRC in the general section theres an option to enable it
well I guess you can google that yourself. I haven't used virtualbox in a while so I can't really remember unfortunately
Hello I'm new here. I just searched for a server that talks about technology because I need it so much. I'm an upcoming first year college student and I got the BSIT course. I'm so nervous because I don't have so much knowledge about technology and I'm trying to study it right now before I go to college in July. I really need people that can help me to tell me the basics that I need to learn and if you can recommend some youtubers that I can watch to learn stuff. Any help would mean a lot to me. Thank youu👾
hey man just wanna say dont cross post the same question in multiple channels. i think u posted the same thing in #general-help-chat right?
Depends on what you count as “tech” - Linux and PCBs are both under the tech umbrella but very very different things iykwim
On that note, for computers, and more specifically Linux, Techno Tim (+ T.T. Tinkers), HardwareHaven, Chris Titus Tech - these are probably the most solid yt channels for it, though a lot is best learnt from experience - for eg. I got curious about penetration testing, so I gave Kali Linux a try since it had a lot of stuff ready out of the box and neatly organized (I’m not advertising Kali as a good Linux distro, merely my humble beginnings with Linux)
hi i just searched up the BSIT course and see that it's very broad and covers a little bit of everything meaning you don't need much background knowledge for the course (if it was a requirement it'd probably say so)
though, i see that it covers topics such as: data structures, networking and operating systems
i haven't taken BSIT myself so i wouldn't know exactly but to get a sort of headstart i'd recommend you look up some sort of gcse/a-level computer science textbook to skim through on the topics that you're expecting on the course. since they're highschool textbooks for a introductory computer science course i feel like it would be laid out in an easy to understand way for someone who doesn't have much knowledge on tech in general
I really appreciate your advice @fast depot and @wicked cosmos
Lmk if u need anything more specific, I’m into computers so Ik a thing or 2 ;)
no problem! if you have any questions or need any help you can ask me
good luck with BSIT
@idle dew if u need something for software stuff rather then hardware , im here
not so advance but im eating books and docs as crazy this days
Thank you! I appreciate your kindness
is there a website or an ai that can translate multiple documents at once?
- DeepL Pro, but it’s not free
- Amazon Translate Bulk has a looooot of characters free (for a year, 2 million chars), but business oriented (needs work to set up)
- Smartcat has a 14 day free trial
- something that uses Google Translate Batch API, 1/4th the characters of amazon (0.5 million chars), developer oriented (needs work to set up)
I tinker with tech and am likely to need to translate a looot soon, so I’ll probably set up Amazon translate bulk since I’m good with tinkering, but perhaps DeepL Pro or Smartcat might work best for you since they don’t require much if any setup at all
Do y'all have tips on how to take notes for an online course? I'm currently taking DSA 1 and the textbook that we're using is online. In addition to paper/digital notes, I was thinking of making flashcards for vocabulary or coding examples but wasn't sure what might be the optimal way to go about studying for the course.
thanks but like can it translate stem related questions?
DeepL pro
I wouldn’t know, I’ve not used DeepL Pro, sorry :/
Depending on what works for you, Anki (digital flashcards) might satisfy your needs, obsidian perhaps, or Jupiter Notebook if there’s coding examples you’d like to save
Thanks!
Let us know how it works out if you have time after the exam, but more importantly, best of luck!!
can u guys tell me jvscholz’s setup with arch linux, ik he uses i3wm and i have his dotfiles, i would like to know his filemanager, login manager, etc
idk about login manager
but he dosent use a file manager
he uses tree graphs in the terminal
earlier that was yazi or something else
but as far as i know he just using NERDTree plugin in neovim
or something similar in emacs
also in general most ppl doing bother with login managers
just login from ctl directly
i guess tty or ly is what you would want if u really need a login manager
not very helpful, but not everything works for everyone, so whilst James (or anyone for that matter, myself included ofc) might use x, you might find x doesn't suit the bill for you, and instead find y better for your way with interracting with yur linux machine :)
that being said, i believe some things in the dotfiles might give in to what programs he's used in the past, maybe not though, depends and i can't know for sure without having gone through them myself, though i recon you've gone through them yourself and not found them
good luck with it though! <3
what sort of unholy shit did i just see?
are u trolling or are u genuanly asking?
😭 is it that bad
genuinely asking
what
why would l be trolling
your resistor is in the same channel as your led lead as far as i can see
is that wrong
u powering it with potential on both sides
u need the positive side to be powered and the negitive to ground
the resistor is appling potential on both leads
shift the resistor to the outermost channel and double check the led polarity
the long leg is + and short is - on an led
ok imma do that rn and check
i don’t get it
OH I GOT IT
IM SO STUPID
THATS SO COOL
first project
just wait till he forgets to put the resistor
thats where true exitement lies
i still remeber powering a led directly and it blowing up
lmao
OMGGG LETS GOO
that was me one year ago ahahah
right now i am building an Op-amp for my electronics project
still have to solder a lot of components
it's supposed to have a gain of 41dB 😭
Holy grenade…. You planning on redoing that Marty McFly scene? 😂
idk you but your excitement made me smile, i'm glad u like this
with 41dB? AHAHAHAHAH we'll see
If I gave it a shot on the HiFi, aside from arrested, I’d also be deaf lol, careful w it
haha, its rlly interesting how all this happens 😭 kinda like magic irl
looking for someone to pair up with to solve neetcode 150 while explaining the problems, interview style. DM if anyone is interested!
yo thats kinda dope, 10K power factor gain?
not sure. its around 140 linear gain
guys what do u think about the friendly elec CM3588 nas kit?
@fast depot
i finily finished my first app , and im venturing again in the hardware, i come ap with the idea of using my ser8 belink pc with couldflare tunnel to host my web app 🙂
the CM3588 was just to buil a nas dont know why eaither
i saw that last year on a few forms
its a rockchip soc
aparently there are 2 variants with 1900mbs and 2200 mbs write speeds
other than that its a chinese board with bad documentation for debian atleast
plus i suspect the new intel n100 will be better than that
TLDR its good for max ~4 Tb anything larger will be a PITA
strictly speaking performance is nice
if this is your first nas then go for a synology or pi or make your own with x86 parts
x86 ? not 64
yes x86
yeah admittedly i may be stupid
but if it's your first one and maybe you aren't wanting to dive into the nas rabbit hole and you just want a plug and play solution, i've only had experience with a ds218+ synology nas but it's easy to set up and next to no hassle to keep up
if you have the budget for it and you don't want to troubleshoot both your app and your hardware, then stick with the easy to use hardware
mbp m4 pro or mbp m4
Hey @everyone, does anyone here use Linux mint cinnamon
used to
Oh, it’s just I installed it yesterday and it’s working fine just the front audio jack on my pc and the Bluetooth isn’t working… about the Bluetooth ( I doubt out it was because of my CSR dongle )
so wired and wireless audio not working?
@vagrant drift hello?
Yes, wired that too from the front audio jack only , the back one is working fine
And the wireless one, I found the fix that I have to buy a new dongle
enable pulseaudio
systemctl --enable pulseaudii
I did , and it didn’t work
What about the app
???
There is an app for pulse audio right
This is not from my pc but it looks like this
restart your pc
wait what Distro and DE u use?
thats not pulse audio that the sound gui from cinnamon
could u check if its a 3.5 jake or a usb audio jack?
mint uses pulse audio btw
Mint cinnamon
every debian based distro changes shit randomly based on emotion all the time. Ubuntu is the best example
Ohh
i use mint xfce
3.5 the one that comes in pink and green
do aplay -l and send output
didn’t it come with pre installed volume control gui?
Wait
or smth
Give me some time I am having dinner
ok take your time mate this is usually a long process
It sure is
i moved to mint bcuz i couldn’t able to fix the wifi gui on alpine linux i can relate
??? thats unrelated alpine uses alpine mint uses gnu
ik
wait idek what alpine used lmao

i just installed it bcuz i have a shitty laptop

alpine is for the wierd ppl who dont like richard stallman
no one actually uses it
it was super lightweight tho
i kinda fw it
linux is actually not light when it comes to unix
try netbsd once
or dragonflybsd
linux is actually kinda bad but i still use it cauz i like it
true linux user
rich boy
thats just bsd tho
ill try it on my zionist hingeproblem laptop
nahhh
i will never buy a brand new apple product
never ever in my life
lmao
bro whats with u and zionist? your from india anyways hamare desh ki problem par phocos karo

that sticker is cute ngl me use it

Ill give it a look
Hello, I'm currently working on a homework for my water engineering program but I've stumble upon a problem in Civil 3D. Was asking if anyone has experience with it can shot me a dm, would appreciate it 🙏
Hey, guys!
I recently started using Obsidian, and I really like the app. However, I strongly dislike the need to pay for synchronization between my Mac and iPhone.
I've tried using Syncthing and iCloud, but they don't work as I'd like (mostly due to iOS system limitations; my MacBook works as it should).
So, what's your setup? What are you using? Do you use it on just one device and don't need to sync, or do you use other storage options? Do you actually pay for Obsidian Sync?
Please share your experience.
i just use syncthing and sometimes any dc client(dc++, linuxdc etc)
i dont have a apple device but i have a hackintosh, mac os is just xnu you can make it work on p2p services
i never understood obsidian or notion
tried it, cant wrap my head around it
for notes i use latex (vimtex plugin for vim)
latex on one half and a pdf reader like zathura on the pther half
gives live previews and math curves render fine
Yo, that's cool, bro!
I think you're on the next level, but my brain is too smooth for that. Maybe someday...
thanks! :3
i saw my senior using latex and then i saw a post on unixpo*n
so decided to try it
it has a learning curve but its in the relm of possability
Anyone know a good dock that works with m1 mac mini and a hp work laptop? And can connect a 49 inch samsung ultrawide?
i mean as long as it has usb-c to connect to the device and an HDMI port with enough bandwidth for whatever resolution at whatever colordepth and whatever refreshrate your ultrawide has it should be fine right?
Hi guys
My laptop doesn't have a bluetooth option, I tried using all the yt vids on this but still there is no option for bluetooth, when I try to add device- the screen just loads :/
<@&942391219206647828>
τhanks
uninstall the bluetooth drivers that is downloaded with windows and then find the bluetooth drivers that are associated with ur device and download it
restart and pray ti works
It's just an easy markdown editor for me and makes link information markdown notes easier.
does your laptop even support bluetooth?
i mean you can always just use git
eh kinda difficult on iphone isnt it?
well yeah a little but all they're doing is pulling and pushing their markdown notes
but how do u get a command line to do all of that?
i suppose something using the ish shell, which creates a rootfs to chroot into could work, when you use a directory in that rootfs as the vault
not sure how limited obsidian is in that aspect
there's ios git clients on the appstore
oooh
surely all it needs is access to the directory they're using
but yeah this feels like the more appropriate option
"Working Copy" has a gui and i feel like most people aren't comfortable with navigating a cli
i was thinking about something similar, i've been using notability on my ipad for convenience though syncing through icloud isn't really convenient since i'm not in the apple ecosystem, maybe switching to obsidian with the excalidraw add-on
i'm not really familiar with using markdown though
i had a setup with goodnotes before(i dont recommend goodnots though) where i just used a webdav server for backups and had it sync there everytime i was in wifi
so i had read-only pdfs on my other devices
yeah i feel like i could do something similar with notability but i often move stuff around and make changes when i read my notes
excalidraw would allow for that
the only reason i haven't yet is well
true
last time i tried excalidraw in obsidian it felt kinda hackish
how so
like its just an embedded window
so its kinda meeh you kow?
idk it just didnt feel right
i'll try it out sometime and give you my thoughts i've only used excalidraw standalone and thought it was pretty good for what it does
also as im still in school when I get paper sheets i need to be able to write on them, and i dont think theres an easy way for that with excalidraw
surely you can take a picture of the sheet and slap it into excalidraw to draw over it
that works but again is kinda hackish
and ideally id use the ios scan function to get a proper image, but then the workflow would be super complex::
- go to files app to scan the sheet
- go back to obsidian
- create an excalidraw canvas
- create an image "widget" and select the scanned pdf
- write
well tbf, airdrop exists so most of the time I dont need to scan it myself
yeah that's fair
idk though it's not really an issue i've had myself though since in my school we don't really get worksheets
they just teach us the content and put questions up for people to attempt
is anyone into machine learning here (fine tuning etc..)
Myself
whats your experience till now in ml?
As in? Number of years?
yes
I would say 3yrs in undergrad
konse year mai abhi?
I graduated 2 years ago bro
Mostly pre processing. We don't use ML models often, only when the client demands it (once in a quarter)
Just cleared my Sem 4, what advise would you give me!
That's a really vague question, what kind of advice do you need?
building career in machine learning ig
Oh, mostly in big tech you won't be 'building' models, optimization is also not very frequent.
Data science field itself has been broken into two ways, Data analytics and GEN AI. Pick out which you would like better and hustle towards it
thanks!
I have done this as well- didn't work
maybe search into local windows files for the bluetooth driver cause laptop do have those files
again, as i said, are you sure your laptop even supports bluetooth??
is the boox note x a good device for manga and note-taking?
it's a tablet
is a tablet a good device for manga and note-taking
depends on you
if you like that form factor, then yes
do u prioritise having an e-ink screen?
while yeah its alright for reading and note-taking thats about all you can do
and for a device that costs about 400 bucks i dont think you would really want it
hopefully they already knew that 😂 e-ink tablets are such niche equipment that you probably need to know that much about it before asking about it
yeah was jsut about to say it's a very specific niche
i assumed they had heard of it from the jvscholz video and thought i'd fill them in just incase
because well yeah it's a really expensive device for a very specific niche
if price isnt an issue you can go for it
but on facebook marketplace im seeing a lot of kindle scribes for about a quarter of the price
they're 260 on aliexpress
my eyes strain form reading on a conventional screen so i thought eink would be a great fit for me
no that's perfectly valid i was saying all of this based off it being 400 bucks
also i read ALOT so i require smth that doesnt hurt my eyes over a long period
if its 260 thats actually reasonable
yh
yeah man i'd say go for it
its still pretty expensive tho
so imma buy it when i actually need it like when i go to sixth form
*excluding shipping
and duties
boox charges 120 for export within asia
180 for europe and NA
plus most countries put a 18% vat/import tax on eletronics
i read someware that it costs 520 ish in the schengen area
idc if the eink is mafe of gold thst aint worth it
says free shipping on aliexpress
u can also try and go for a kindle
they're everywhere and dirt cheap
the first gen had a micro sd card slot
it feels weird shifting to vscode after being a jupyter notebook guy.
you can always use .ipynb file in vscode
i do that for my most of the ml projects
yup
hello there, i want to search if in here any one relate with marine engineering tech

It's just a script with a tui. You can code it in python or any other language using curses https://docs.python.org/3/howto/curses.html
@delicate dew
So u just create a script, make it executable and move it to a path specified in $PATH(which you can see by using echo $PATH in your terminal). So:
$ code work (somehow create the script)
$ chmod +x work (make it executable)
# mv work /usr/local/bin (move it into $PATH)
yeah that's what i did and it works
did u also make a fancy ui? if so, could u send it to me?
alias work='clear; date; echo "$(fortune)"; pause' :)
well everything except counting works..
do any of you guys use refind over grub
i discovered it recently and it seems pretty nice with a lot of pretty themes
i see grub for 1 second when booting so its not rlly owrth it for me
yea fair
probably not really worth it for me either
it's not like i dual boot o ranything
tried refind long ago on gentoo, i dont see a advantage in messing with a bootloader, its the same argument as "grub vs systemd-boot"
grub is convaluted but its a standard for a reasion.
an good anology to this subject would be bash vs fish or something
grub is overkill for most applications but it covers all bases and is defacto everyware
Hello, I am going to participate in a business planning competition, I choose to make a technology business plan whose products are hardware and software (IoT) for agriculture, such as temperature sensors, soil moisture, weather forecasts, and several other sensors and software. but I still don't know how to explain the production of the product later, because of course IOT production must be carried out by an IoT manufacturing factory. I heard about EMS (Electronic Manufacturing Services). can that be a solution?, if not, can you give me some advice for that?. but if yes, can anyone explain EMS to me?, I can ask AI for the basics, but I haven't been able to find information about the average price of the service, what the company is (I live in Asia), how the design will be, etc. Thank you.
hi is anyone doing an online CSE engineering course here
hi! I'm tasked to make a deep learning model architecture, but I'm a bit confused where to start. i was also told to make use of blocks, shapes, colors to make it intuitive and creative. any advice?
Hi, anyone in Cyber security or compliance in this domain? Would love to connect with peers around!!
Thank you
ay yo peeps quick question
did libvirt drop support for uefi out pf the blue?
my iso images are unable to boot in uefi mode
defaulting to bios
i realised this when trying to install grub and grub struggling to find a efi path
tried it with gnome boxes and another libvirt based app
dint work in both
unrealistic. You could check the changelogs but there could be many other reasons for it using bios like iso image or kernel
i checked the xml file and it was all fine
i forced tianocore to superseed seabios and it just says not efi found
which is honestly not very discriptive
all my iso images are behaving this way and i use a LTS kernal
i figured it out
systemd has efi issues 6.14 onwards
i have to manually mount images rather than trusting it to boot
honestly kinda infuriating
fuck systemd!!
But glad u figured it out
Hi all have you ressource of all tech book/vidéo
hello guys
anyone
i need small help related to deep learning adn python (coding)
please DM me
dm me
i could help you with that
what are you exactly looking for!
any one good at react native i need some advice
anyone know ai for math but not chagpt
guys some help, do u have any idea how can I host a repository on my 2nd pc windows and be able to work with it lije git hub of course withut issues and other stuff related to github,
Iknow I have to make bare rebo but how tan I make it visible to others on the network
on the local one no public
no idea whatu mean by "lije git hub" but if you run your own git server(which is what u r trying to do) then you wont have github
you need to run a git daemon. ive never tried this on windows, but the command I use is git daemon --export-all --base-path=/srv/git /srv/git
to expose all repositories, in /srv/git.
If you want a proper setup, you probably want to make this a service or something so that it always runs in the background and restarts itself
you don't need to make them bare, but its a common practice as it takes up less storage that way
as long as you dont open the port on your router or use a reverse proxy like ngrok, it should be local-only.
dfault port is 9418
If you want a webui(called "forge" or "git forge") for it, at least on linux there is cgit, gitea or forgejo. Ig you can run them using docker
Sr like git hub was written
Thanks for the advices still confsed but ill give it a try
bascially you only need a git daemon running and watch out for open ports. other than that it depends on what you want, but if u simply want to share ur repository its unneeded
still no idea tbh xd
Lol my bad, leave that im no good at explain this stuff, genery I need 3 people on my home network to work at the same code. but with usitg git hub
Sounds better?
except for usitg git hub, yes
though i wonder why it needs to run local and not just on some git provider
for no reason actually @gloomy lily , im learning to self host my privat stuff, like repos, llms, and next web apps, i do use github for project with others tho
ooh cool. Im also trying to self host stuff, just for fun though. Currently only git but im working on a pastebin-like service rn
pastebin whats that
It's a service where you can upload text or code to share it with others. Mine also supports images and basically any file format, so if I want to show someone a video I can upload it there, and just send the URL instead of uploading it to discord for example
Did nothing but work on that programm, sleep and eat today. My brain thinks in c now..
I can feel what u say
@gloomy lily
damm this brings back memories of when i turned a old laptop into a server which did nothing
LMAO my rpi is currently doing nothing too
http://git.kentoj.de/cpaste/tree/
and I finally got it done!! yesterday coded until 4am again. So the whole project + life took around 30hours
hosting it private onyl though, dont want to deal with warrants because some pedo does his thing
what warrents?
unless u use a free domain from .su then they wont do anything
i mean if someone uses my service to share childp0rn or sth
dude no one will be able to upload anything
if i make it public yes
cauz DNS is not like it used to be
what i meant with publis is that the paste user does not have a password, so anyone can cat kids.png | paste@kentoj.de
that is a valid concern but its not really feesable cauz web crawlers can detect cp and simply unlist or backlist the domain in the registry
so u will just get a email from godaddy or whatever about violations
thats not too cool
i know about this cauz 5 years ago bogenville made their domain free and i got multiple emails about "piracy" and "Dmca" cauz that domain was used to host a torrent site earlier
same thing with .su
well bogenville and ussr are no longer countries
and governments dont actually give af
those were countries? i though that was the domain provider lol
the internet is beyond their grasp
.su is tecnically under russia but they stoped issuing new domains so what we have is what we got
bogenville had a independence movement and ICAAN issued a domain "in solidarity"

There is also one component you need to add that is not list here that will make your video editing process much faster. You may need to research video editing computer needs to figure it out.
I cant seem to find what this would be if not video editing software.. Does anyone have any idea?
chatgpt said GPU which sounds right
my fried brain didnt even notice the gpu wasnt mentioned oops
O wow i had one added but didn't even think about it not being on the list LOL! tysm
yea me neither lol
does anyone here have an ipod nano
i bought one recently and the screen just shows white
yup. 4th gen
maybe try resetting it, this could work.
A factory restore erases the information and settings on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod and installs the latest version of iOS, iPadOS, or iPod software.
Or it's an issue with the screen
yup. just confirmed. It shows up in finder in the sidebar
thank you sm, unfortunately it didn't work.
I guess im just going to try to cool the ipod
the wheel works tho
like it makes sound or how?
also this could be the issue https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/39036/white+screen+of+death+on+iPod+nano+4g not sure
Okay you can try this http://www.zolved.com/synapse/view_conte... and see if it works. I do know that this generation has issues with the logic board, but that usually manifest itself in another way. If this should not resolve the issue, I'd disassemble it and check the connection from the logic... - iPod Nano 4th Generation
The wheel
yea how do u knwo the wheel works?
there should be a clicking sound when swiping/rotating or whatever its called
Yeah
It’s working now, the refrigerator ended up working
Thank you sm
Do you maybe know how I can keep that from happening in the future? The seller said that he had the same issue from time to time
the issue came back 😭
lol tf
maybe its short-circuit that makes it get that hot
yo yo yo
throw that ipod away
its called negitive battery charge and its the main reasion battries heatup and cauz wanky problems
the battery may explode
replace the battery and check the polarity on the board before connecting
🙀
created this app for fun

hey guys,i wanna do a project based on ml and i got 4 month timeline to do it...i am out of ideas since most i come across don't align with my goal to actually solve a problem that people face,i am open to all kind of ideas atp pls suggest some ideas...Thank you so much in advance
are any split keyboard enthusiasts aware of what is the name of the layout that is literally ferris sweep but has one extra thumb key ?

i really enjoyed this partipicular episode
try vi, vim, nvim and ed. and if i understand correctly, u got shell access, which means you can use shell redirection to like echo <contents> > filetooverride> + cat filetoprint to show the contents
will look into all of that, thank u !!!
Hi! Does anybody here know how to self host? Ive been thinking of investing in a raspberry pi 5 but idek what im doing still 😅
I dont know a easy method, but js wanted to let you know that mini pcs(refurbished) are much cheaper than a raspberry pi
on r/selfhosted there are many recommendations
Anything w an intel i5 should do it right?
Thanks 🙏
Or an n100 pc?
true bought a dell wokstation with intel xeon for half the price if you dont care about form factor older pcs are faster and mornepowerfull
Ive been researching since my last reply 😁. I actually see how that would be a good way to start things up. Tyty!
im glad i could be of any help!
well big PCs usually use a lot of electricity
fair point arm boards are in fact more efficient
depends on your use case I'd say. Mostly cpu is not too important but rather memory
hey, i am currently working on a static html / css website. I want to have an image that is contained inside a div with rounded corners with overflow:hidden, such that I can align the image using id's while still adding the rounded corners to the image. Does anyone have ideas, why this could occur? Asking the all mighty LLM's hasn't helped at all and i am completely clueless
nvm, i am an idiot. The div containing the image still had a background-colour from the original testing of the widths and heights, which causes display errors, as for some reason the bg-colour is still displayed the most outer pixels of the corner.
anything is fine
would prefer the n100 cauz price/performance and power consumption
tbh cpu and ram n stuff dont matter
storage is everything, even if not a storage server
i recomend jeff geerling for this kind of thing
Noted, thanks :)
What mechanical Keyboard shall i buy I literally got like 4 options and im confused.
60% blue switch not hotswap
60% fat Red switches With a volume knob
60% Wired it costs like 10$ less
Last but not least
An 82% Mechnical Blue keyboard no knob no noting lmao just Red or blue switches and wireless.
Im a game dev
Programmer
And uhm a Animator
And uh student
Aswell as a Gamer sometimes
its just preference I'd say but I definitely don't recommend blue switches - red ones are audible enough and it'll be annoying when talking on discord. 60% when programming could also be too limiting
does anyone use iems?
i was thinking about buying a pair but every single one has so many mixed opinions
i was hoping to get recommendations for gaming/ anime + youtube
i dont really listen to music on my laptop
the past few years have been the best years for iems
you can't go wrong
give your budget and maybe we can make some recommendations
since you're not doing it for music your needs aren't that specific, pretty much any iem would work
I need help as well as of someone who is from engeneering background i am getting offerd from a college that i will get a 90% scholarship on there computer science engeneering in data science btech program and i am really confused right now that what should take as career cs in data science or normal cs and please somebody tell some real life experience not copy paste from a ai 😭 😔
depends if you like stats or cs more
i came here because i need a budget (~$200) ereader that can do pdfs hopefully (https://github.com/koreader/koreader; calibre). Saw jvscholz recommendation in his vid of a nook glowlight 4. Don't need notetaking capabilities, but android would be nice. Mainly for reading for a long time without eye strain or having reference material open on the side. Tbh a bigger screen would be better but what can you really ask for at this price. Looking for other opinions, otherwise I might just have to spend a lot of time on reddit ;-;
looking at the kobo clara color/bw too
i can say that the kobo clara color is rlly good! the battery life is great and for kobos they’re made to last so it’s a good investment!! it’s also super simple to load PDFs and .epub files onto ur kobo :)
the only downside i can think of for the color version is the kaleido 3 screen, it isn’t too bright when you’re outside, so if you like high contrast i recommend the bw. kobo also isn’t android based unfortunately 💔 if you want an ereader less than $200 and w/ an android OS i’d recommend you read some reviews of any of the boox ereaders, i don’t have one myself so i can’t say much
i also recommend looking thru sites like this: https://comparisontabl.es/e-readers/ !
it’s a huge comparison chart w/ a lot of ereaders, there are different filters for price, OS, etc so that you can find whichever one best suits your needs
i am gonna be honest
mtech is quite important these days
dosent matter if u do btech in cse or ece
the only jobs u gonna get through btech will be IT services
mainly indian companies like tcs and prolly a few US ones like cisco or SF
not relly good jobs tbh
take data science as a mtech specialization through any btech
if u get a tuition waver, take it
thanks for the insight
yeah i would like it to last a long time if thats not a given lol
good point
oh! I meant it’s durable as in it won’t immediately shatter on impact if you drop it 😭 sorry English is hard sometimes
but yes it’ll last a while!
glad i could help
yeah i just mean that nothing will break
like it lasts a while
contrast outside is not a huge deal to me but seeing my files on other devices/backups/easy sideloading is pretty important
yeah i’d recommend KOReader if you do get a kobo!! makes reading ur sideloaded books easier and sync ur progress
like £100 maybe
i bought the truthear zero reds but I'm probably going to return them
not because they're bad, but they aren't THAT much better than my current headphones
I don't think the upgrade in sound quality or imaging is worth £40
everyone seems to have such varying opinions on the IEMs it's really hard to find one that I'd consider buying
some people say everything is perfect, others will say that there's no bass and that it broke after 5 days of use
the red is pretty good
diminishing returns in audio is real and the price for it constantly keeps dropping as manufacturers continue to put variations of their higher end tech into their lower priced offerings
if you don't think the upgrade to the zero red was worth it, i honestly don't you're going to find anything mind-blowing at this price range
if it's not that much of an upgrade to you, i might suggest you just keep using what you have and save for a bigger budget later on
audio is super, super subjective
that's why headphones.com has 365 day guaranteed returns
it's so subjective that they let you refund anything you buy from them for a whole year just so you get to live with it and figure out whether you actually like it or not
yeahh i get that everyone is different so I'm trying to EQ the reds to sound like other iems so i know whether I think they sound good or not
I don't think there's anything different other than the imaging and sound stage between the EQ reds and whatever i'm making them sound like
there won't be
that's not what EQ does
you want imaging, that's a quality problem, you're going to need better iems
you want sound stage, that's kind of what iems aren't good at and you should look at headphones instead
you also aren't going to EQ one pair of iems into other iems, otherwise why would there be so many iems? 😂
EQ tuning is just for sound signature
playing with EQ is a good idea nonetheless, you might figure out something you like with the zero reds
but if it's sound stage you're looking for, you're looking at the wrong equipment entirely...
yeah EQ just changes the tuning a little
I'm not tooo fussed on sound stage
i can still tell if something is coming from behind me or in front of me
above or below
its more about the imaging and separation I think
the sounds shouldn't all mix together
is there a way to get all tweets by a user still? (free)
i tried it many* but none worked post the x api changes
so i actually discovered a kindle nobody uses
its a 10th gen pw
unfortunately i cant "jailbreak" it and install koreader
idk how much im missing out on
but this honestly works fine
the big hype a few years ago was the truthear hexa, i'm sure it's still solid now but the iem industry moves extremely fast and it's definitely old news now
speaking of old news, there's always letshuoer s12 which is quite an old pair of iems now ha
these two should have very good technicalities, and very within your price range
i've been out of the iem game ever since i got my latest pair (stop looking at things i don't need lol) but i think in the past year or two truthear released the nova, which has similar tuning to moondrop variations
this means truthear has both made a cheap blessing 2 with the hexa, and a cheap variation with the nova... 🤔 moondrop's blessing 2 and variations were widely considered among the best iems you can buy under 1k, and they cost a quarter/half that respectively
truthear making cheaper versions of those is, well, the reason the monetary value at which diminishing returns for audiophile equipment begins keeps getting lower every single time a company releases something good :)
and a brand i never heard of before i went out of loop on iem world is simgot, but apparently their offerings such as the supermix 4 are also very competent
just a few suggestions - i haven't tried any of these, and i highly recommend being able to try or buy from a seller with strong return policy before committing to one
i appreciate the suggestions a lot
i'm ngl I really need a job and I've spent wayyy too much money already, so I'm going to return these truthear reds and then either I'll wait a little and get the hexas/ supermix 4 or another iem that's a little over 100, OR, I buy better headphones for the gaming sessions with friends and then get a pair of earphones (hopefully the headphones + earphones would cost less than the iems + a mic) and use the earphones for when I'm studying/ coding and don't want big bulky headphones on my head
Anyone knows how to solve this?
personally i don't think you'll find a decent pair of headphones, iems, and a mic all under £100, but i have audiophile standards so it's biased
in your position you do sound like you'd benefit from the iems a lot more - they're perfectly fine for gaming, and you could buy a modmic for them which is basically just a replacement iem cable with a pretty alright mic attached to it

Can y'all suggest which laptop i should go for considering both are priced same?HP Envy x360 14-es1023dx
Or Lenovo Yoga 7 14IML9 (Core Ultra 5-125U + Arc GPU)? My primary focus would be coding and doing uni assignments along with other basic tasks. (I don't game)
I would go w/ the Yoga, based on personal experience the hardware is much more resistant that the HP Envy. I had that exact same model of HP and it got a lot of problems. If your case involves taking the laptop around campus I would strongly suggest the Lenovo Yoga.
Thanks for the suggestion!
anyone tried pen input on a thinkpad yoga, a microsoft surface or similar devices with linux?
Really want to get a comvetible for school but I didnt find too much on palm rejection
I use a yoga with Linux
Highly would recommend. It’s really good
Mine is a x380 yoga with Ubuntu 24.04
woah so does palm rejection work fine then?
also am i correct to assume that ubuntu uses wayland now?
yep, I've only really used it so far for gimp
but works perfectly, ubuntu recognizes it as a wacom tablet
should work for both wayland and x11
the underscreen coil types dont work properly on linux. The best u can get will be on a thinkpad on fedora or RHEL.
the capacitive types work fine
but its not something u wanna daily drive
I daily drive ubuntu on a thinkpad yoga, tablet part works fine
just to clarify lol
i guess i gotta update myself now lol
but last i checked thinkpads usually have good linux support
except the fingerprint scanner
had fingerprint scanner working for me, but never tried it on any mainstream distro
just used some weird cli software
bought a x390 yoga now :>>>
hopefully latest kernel and some drivers will be enough to have a smooth experience
man im way too excited
Can y'all recommend which yoga I should go for? I have these options.
The last two are of the same model with different display options.
go for ultra series
ultra series have alot better iGPU(Arc) compared to the core i5 and i7 which are much weaker
for the display 100% DCI-P3 is the best one out there(check out if it is touch screen or not if that is your requirement)
I have a Logitech g402 should I get the hyperX haste 2 core wirless mouse
For valorant and fps gaming
Hey,
I’m planning to purchase a laptop.
Does anyone have experience using the Samsung Galaxy Book?
I’m not really interested in a MacBook since it doesn’t allow much customization, and most of my work involves using Word and MS Office.
If you have any other suggestion then drop them.
(No gaming laptops)
macos is actually pretty customizable: https://www.reddit.com/r/unixporn/comments/1gbsbtd/aerospace_mellow_macos_setup/ https://www.reddit.com/r/unixporn/comments/1belmnl/yabai_the_most_polished_setup_i_ever_created_for/ https://www.reddit.com/r/unixporn/comments/1e53nnu/yabai_abusing_macos_to_make_it_look_how_i_want_it/
word and ms office also runs perfectly, though some menu items aren't in the same place as they are on windows according to my dad
third party extensions?
Really?
I've heard different opinions on this.
But Thank you so much.
if you're buying the laptop for school, check what kind of programs your courses will use and whether the school itself recommends against a mac or not
you might run into compatibility issues with some programs that you absolutely need to use, and you will either have to seek alternative ways to use them or purchase an entirely new laptop later on
one example is that ms access doesn't work on macos at all
Well,
I only need Word doc and few MC office software's but A really good battery life.
I guess they do sell but I am not sure.
Any suggestions for laptop then?
not really, most laptops all kinda feel the same to me and as long as you aren't looking for a gaming one, i genuinely don't feel like you'd go wrong - but i'm not that sensitive to laptop differences so other people would feel differently
personally i got a thinkpad t14s gen 4 for a pretty good deal
Makes sense.
I want a laptop to at least last for 3-4 years.
Thank you I will check this one.
not something i recommend buying new or without a huge sale
i like thinkpads though
Oh have you used one before?
if so how long ideapad lasts with a single charge?
hey guys i was wondering if anyone is able to using doom emac between different devices
and have them sync or some sort
any gemini cli users here?
the ideapad and thinkpad are two different lineups from lenovo, ideapads are aimed at the general consumer wheras thinkpads are intended for business use (businesses sell them in very good condition for pennies all the time, if used is an option for you)
mine can last like 15 hours on a full charge and probably another 5 more if i were really economical in my settings and usage
i can't relate that to an ideapad but i'd probably drop it to about half the time as a consumer-oriented laptop
i know a few people with ideapads and they seem quite happy with them, though
Oh Thank you so much
Hello guys I recently bought a 4050 laptop
But after watching james for more than a month every video I found I need to go in absolute boredom so can anyone suggest me some good things I can do with my laptop to be productive as a 12th grader science student
Guys i building a cyber deck with raspberry pi but i am not happy with their OS which they are providing. Does anybody can suggest me some OS for my project.
whats the issue with raspberrypi os?
use pen paper
4050 is a pretty average video card but it will be more than enough for you
I personally have such a video card and I use it in games, adobe premier, photoshop, and after effects
But if you have such a video card, then the processor is not weak, but in any case, you can work in anything
But if you want advice, you can delve into cryptocurrency
The moondrop space travel 2 is out and i really needed earbud rn
Idk if i should get it or not cuz there really isnt any much review yet
i'd wait
not every moondrop sequel has been good
if you really really need one, then the current space travel is extremely excellent for the price
linux 6.12 and without any setup pen worked perfectly!!!
palm rejection and everything works soooo nicely too
life is good
just saw this, let me know how it goes :)
oh its perfect
made a setup for school using vis(a vi-like editor) with a custom command to allow embedding drawings
well keyboard needs some work cuz i couldnt find any cool ones
that's neat. I've been digging around with Joplin for a bit. Local-storage markdown note editor with handwriting features as well :)
wait i didnt know they support drawings
but mine works almost the same, except i edit the drawing using xournalpp, then convert the xournalpp file to a .png which is then embedded
though i now have to run $ gen.sh after every change to get the .png
wait, i thought vis wasn't gui based?
how does embedding images work
correct, I use ~markdown syntax like , just like joplin does html in markdown
but I dont render it until I execute gen.sh and open the generated html file in a browser
and for drawings I first write notes in xournalpp with an .xopp format, then gen.sh converts them to images.
http://paste.kentoj.de/3A.mp4
still need to polish it, mayybe add a command to automatically open it in the browser or auto compiling using inotify file change events
image is also resizable if u use a proper browser, you can pull it down so an embedded png does not take up all the space by default and can still be viewed properly
Guys I bought this 4050 laptop and was playing valorant but found its spiking my dopamine NXT level any suggestions to learn as 12 th grader to make use of this laptop feeling guilty
