What you need?
is fine i dont anymore
what’s the specs
depends on what for but i still wouldnt know. i only know my x390 with linux works well enough for coding, browsing and listening music
I would mainly use it for coding only
It has i5/i7 8th gen 16 gb ram
It s excellent
Hey everyone Im trying to download the oracle Linux server 9.4 in a vm to run the 19C db but i know nothing on these kind of things any tips ??
First of all iam trying to install the vm but instead of getting this page
i got this instead
anybody fluent in c here?
yeah thats great dude. should be able to do any coding w that
Does anyone know what software jay uses, it looks so clean and minimalisitc
What do you need
i think arch linux
Heyy! I wanted to learn arduino from scratch, does anyone know a good yt channel or a good course(free)? It would help a lot
what specifically?
maybe this video helps https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZX-cDR6IQM
other software on his thinkpad in that video:
os is archlinux, window manager is i3wm (no desktop environment), file manager is probably dolphin(kde plasmas), icons also from kde plasma but idk the name
he also uses some compositor for transparency and blur, most likely picom
I'm thinking about buying a new 27' monitor for coding, browsing, etc. And does it worth to buy 2k monitor for desktop using, or fullhd is enough. Can somebody share your experience?
I got a 32' ultrawide monitor (3440x1440p) earlier this year and honestly it was just amazing for coding and browsing but its also great for other things like gaming and especially watching movies, now it all just depends which aspect ratio and size would yo prefer, but im speaking from my personal experience that ultrawide is defo eye opening, but i think that 27' is still fairly good
Guys I'm learning java and i need good free resources please!?
i also got a 34 inch ultrawide monitor from LG and it is really good for coding , movies also for playing games too
How about resolutin. Does 2k has big diffrence than fdh for desktop using?
anyone know how james made jvscholz.com? Does he just write html or use some framework/static site generator
Anyone learning OS programming/development?
I wanted to discuss concepts on threading and multitasking since I'm a bit confused
looks like just basic html
don't worry about the price

Can someone help me with my micromouse maze solver.I;'m a beginner at this so I'm unable to trubleshoot the problem
I implemented a wall following algorithm but its moving backward instead.
Im not really familiar with what micromouse maze solver is, but im guessing it should find a way out of the maze from some entance point. If you havent already done that, i suggest adding some sort of variable, a matrix for example, that should keep track of where you have been in the maze already, so you dont go that same path twice unless you are backtracking to the last point where the new undiscovered path begins
Hi I'll have to learn .net and c# now apparently. Can anyone who has knowledge on this guide me pleaseee?
I was wondering, which e-ink writer would you folks recommend?
I've been seeing a lot about the Supernote a6x2 (nomad), the upcoming supernote a5x2, the boox 10.3 and the boox note air 4c.
Which one would you recommend? Mainly for university (taking notes, viewing pdfs/writing on them, syncing files, ...)
Also was wondering bout this
Found anything more?
Hello guys. Howdy?
I'm planning on upgrading my laptop but unsure where I can check if I'll have any issues with the component. I want to get a 32 x2 gb ram. I have a 16gb and it keeps not being enough as my tabs get closed when I am working
If anyone knows a website where to check for compatitibility would be apprecisted especially for laptops .. never changed ram for a laptop
Hello, I'm planning on finally getting a laptop soon and I've been thinking for the longest time that I should learn programming/coding. I have no idea how to start I don't even know the basics of it, or which language I should learn. Could anyone please direct me? Anything is helpful, thank you!
Thank you so much that's very helpful!!
Oh and I wanted to know which language is most wanted in terms of jobs?
it would depend on the jobs that you want
like if your going to pursue in Machine learning related python would be useful
If I'm more of a website person then I should stick to what the other person said right? I'll start w python and go from there! Thank you so much for taking time to answer me I really appreciate it. Have a great day
to be honest I would not recommend starting with python if you want to learn programming logic
starting with a lower level oop language would help you much more
yes, the python is easier, but if you learn java or c++ for example you will understand the programming logic much better
and it will be easier to learn other languages as well
I would personally recommend java
and if you want to learn about backend engineering you can dive into java spring after you learn java fundementals
depends
if you want to develop backend you can also go into backend or frontend or both
if you want to go into backend you don't really need html, or css or any of the frontend stuff
again, I think java will give you the required programming logic for every field
you can also use it to develop the backend of your website
but python is not really useful for web developers
so if you have no clue about what you want to go into, and just learn the basics and the concepts of programming languages, just go with java/c++
Hello, I recently bought the M2 MacBook Air 15 and noticed that when it's shut down, it doesn't charge. The LED on the charging cable keeps turning on and off, and each time it does, the charging sound plays. It charges fine when it's in sleep mode or open, but this issue happens only when it's shut down.
hi guys, i need some help please 😔 🥹 I'm someone who no nothing about coding but have a project where i need to use ai to make a small app something like calculating BMI or some medication doses. i need some apps, website, videos or any type of resources that i can use for this.
im currently using rstudio and shiny library and chatgpt to create something but i still don't have that much resources nor the knowledge please help, its for something important for uni 😔
is there any cybersecurity community cause i would love to collaborate with people and yk just have a constant source of motivation?
I am finding it really hard to find like minded ppl in this field :"")
Thank you sosososo much for taking time to write such a detailed response 😭🙏
Hi guys, I've trouble with my laptop, I cant enable Secure Boot in BIOS Utility
Can anyone help me 😦
.
sorting algorithms
show me what do you need
why do you need to enable secure boot ?
playing valorant lol, also a program in my school need it to work smoothly
u need secure boot to play valorant 😂 ?
sure, as I read on google, riot need it to ban the hardware if player using cheat
and it is needed on windows 11 not 10
OHh that's a little too much lol banning the player on hardware level
what kind of system u are running
when I'm in Bios utility and it not allow me to turn it on
the secure boot line is translucent
its empty
okay, i'll check
What does boot look like?
what happens if you set secure boot control into disabled?
nothing happen
I turned it on before I realised nothing change tho
i think we have the exact same laptop
let me check my bios real quick
oh it's the same for me
https://github.com/DavidS95/Smokeless_UMAF there is this tool which let's you do anything, i'm pretty sure you can modify secure boot, be careful with the settings though
i have used it before to increase vram and it worked fine
Does anyone have some more info about this?
check out jvscholz's blog on the go 10.3, might help you: https://jvscholz.com/blog/boox_go.html
I think Im going to wait for the supernote a5x2
looks pretty promising + i like their return policy + replaceable battery stuff
is theres anyone could help me with my project ?
Currently im working on library project , as a final project of a training i have been on it , and i have to do search functionality on the homepage and to make the website responsive , is there's someone can help me ?
i have been trying all the day without any real result
I have to use only html , css (also tailwaind) , js
And some helper libraries are allowed
** LIBRARY PROJECT **
Code:
HTML, CSS, JS.
Frameworks:
Tailwind
Problems:
- Make Responsive
- Search Functionality
So what exactly are you stuck on?
Responsive should be simple as it's just adjusting based on screen size, correct? However how many pages you have may play a role.
How are you doing the search functionality? Input that then returns output from a database?
hey i wanna learn App development using Flutter can you suggest any good resources
What kind of App do you want to develop? Android web or desktop?
Android
Do you have everything installed and set up? (Flutter, Android Studio etc.) Else follow the steps here: https://docs.flutter.dev/get-started/install to get started. It's a bit of a lengthy process, after that you can actually get started.
yeah i have already installed it
so flutter, android studio, vs code or other code editor with the extension?
Ya vs code
Hi guys
I am currently an undergraduate informatics student. As part of a group project, we are conducting interviews with IT professionals (especially at web developer) to learn more about their career paths, daily responsibilities, the skills needed in the field, and any advice they may have for students like us who are just starting out.
We would be honored if any of you could share your valuable experiences with us. The interview would also be recorded for reference & project's requirement.
If you could spare some time for this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for considering our request, and I look forward to your response.

Pro-Tip: Don't webscrape google chrome... their html is comfusing af.

does anyone have any good recommendations for discrete math books which focus on writing proofs
which can also include exercises ofc
I have a gpu anti sag bracket from msi but it's not long enough
What should I do?
specialization and generalization on er diagram ?
@native brook
laptop buying advice requested: is 512gb enough in a laptop for dev work (web dev + web3 ) for the next 5-6 years?
hi I work in R&D in the food industry and need to improve my data analysis skills. I'm unsure where to start and want to learn effectively with relevant information. Any advice ?
Any microphone recommendations? Preferably a usb mic (because I dont own the stuff for an XLR one) that isnt going to break the bank but sounds nice
yea 512gb is good enough atleast for the start , you can get external drives anyways(if needed later)
Should i buy a thinkpad p14s gen2 48gb ram 512gb ssd for 350 {regular seller}
Or buy a thinkpad p14s gen2 32gb ram 512gb ssd for 499 {"ebay premium services"}
Question: What is the necessity to buy an expensive laptop? Buy an used ThinkPad. A T440 to T480 are great choices.
I have a T440 myself, it's been a solid choice for a backup laptop. I have it with 8GB of RAM, a 240GB SATA M2 (running OpenBSD) and a 240GB SSD for Arch Linux.
Not to mention, these latest ThinkPads are a disgrace. They are far from what they used to be in terms of customization, robustness and quality.
to have more power?
Okay, it's your money, but be aware that it's unnecessary money if you don't need to do anything really heavy (gaming or editing videos). If you want something with processing power, get a T480.
how are these latest thinkpads a digrace btw
Plus, you're contributing to the excess electronic waste that's being thrown around. 🙂
how
hello did you get your answer?
you hsould tell more about what you want to use it for
schoolwork, self studying subjects (basically schoolwork), programming, and a tiny bit of cad
and do watch like movies every now and then
i also need it to last
for like 5-7 years
willing to spend ig if its lasting
cant go wrong with thinkpad
but mac also not bad
if u put linux on it its better for coding and thinkpads r well supported with linux
Hey! What's up, everyone?
Does anybody know about computers?
After a couple of days without internet, when I came back, my laptop couldn't reconnect to WiFi because the password was incorrect, but the password wasn't changed. It only happens to my laptop. On my phone, everything is fine.
maybe check if keyboard is set to appropriate language, it could happen that if you use multiple languages on a keyboard that it might be just set to a different one by default or something like that
Guys I have a problem
When I had a really really low end GPU
Game graphics were something to me I mean I loved graphics of game
But recently I got an RTX high end graphics card and I don't really care about the graphics only the gameplay and story.
I am not hyped about graphics anymore now that I can experience it
Am I alone feeling this way?
I don't like this
i wanna get an e reader but dont know which one to get, anyone got recommendations?
So I'm wanting to get a desktop PC and all I need it for is studying so what specs would you recommend?
depends on what do you study
just science
hmm i think then pretty much everything works just make sure its atleast 16 gigs of ram , 512 gb ssd and latest gen cpu with integrated gpu should be fine since you will only use it fo studying
Thanks!
thats the dilemma
however
im really liking the new space black pro with nano texture
anti glare
weak argument but i get it
id still choose thinkpad tho. macs dont even have usb-a, u cant change battery, only supports macos
actually macboik might be better if u travel a lot, as the chip is more energy efficient and therefore requires less charging. but since u also thought about mac mini/studio i assume u dont
oh also important if u prefer linux or macos. if u r gonna use windows ob the thinkpad, id buy mac
cuz windows is not unix-like(we like unix for coding) and also it gets increasingly worse and annoying
i mean
i dont code that much
im only in hs and its for a cs class
for the most part
sometimes i do for other reasons
but its not like software dev level
i dont travel that much but id like to have something to use when i do
bc oftentimes i have smth to do
like for the most part im only using it for schoolwork but it can vary ig
then ig its js preference
whether u prefer windows/linux or macos
ive never even used linux
or when u already have apple ecosystem stuff maybe mac isbbetter
yeah
i might start using linux when i have to do more coding but for the time being its not that much, so im leaning towards a macbook but ill try to get other insight for now
i think macbook is better either way if ur not gonna use linux.
macbook as better screen, good keyboard, rlly good touchpad
macos is also just as good for programming
as both r unix like/based, they support the same commands and have pretty much the same structure
sure np
is this a good score
Does anyone know any good website or yt to learn pandas for beginners?
there plenty of tutorials online. I recommend CS50 from harvard lectures on youtube.
Not the easiest way as you will start with c, instead of an easy language like python but its easier in the long run IMO
im ngl cs50 is ass to start , id start with codecademy free python course , or if u think u learn better from a project, u can build a free portfolio website , look up github pages portfolio projects for beginners
ill have to agree with this
That is insane🔥
well its difficult, but if u understand it u rlly got a deep understanding of the stuff u write, although looking into python first is probably also helpful, as it allows connecting the new knowledge to something
Hello Everyone, I am looking for a KVM or something similar.
I have;
- 2 laptops
- a pc and
- another device.
My goal is to have;
- my headphones and mic that are connected to the audio interface,
- keyboard,
- mouse
- webcam
- if possible speakers and
- two monitors
to be connect to the KVM.
I won't be using all 4 devices at the same time, all the time.
I want it to be easy to disconnect the laptops.
So in the best case scenario, I'd have 2 usb C and a hdmi or dvi cable that connects the KVM to the pc and laptops.
I want to be able to switch between the devices easily.
Do I need a server rack for something like this? or is there some sort of docking station or KVM, or am I looking for something that doesn't exist or just completely at the wrong place?
Thank you in advance.
I dont get the best scenario part but isnt it just a KVM switch for 4 computers what u need?
Guys, has anyone tried Bend yet, the programming language based on Rust that lets you run code on CUDA ? I get an OOM Error that I am not sure how to fix.
i need a new monitor
what size u prefer? gaming or office? fps gaming or js chill games? budget? what resolution? what aspect ratio?
like 27 inch, mostly office work but sometimes games like minecraft, kind of budget (willing to go to like 300 ish), 4k, 16:9 / 16:10
i dont know much about monitors sadly. cant rlly help u
Hey
How do I install Chrome or brave browser on my debian 32 bit system?
I know it is not supported but then what option do I have as there is no auto translate in firefox browser
if you want google chrome you can install it using flatpak or whats recommended is to use chromium which can be installed by sudo apt install chromium
if you wanna use google chrome anyways you'll have to set up flatpak for debian here https://flatpak.org/setup/Debian
or you can also use this extension in firefox
idk if it works tho i havent used firefox in a long time
is chromium secure if any of the bank transaction is done through it??
yes, chromium is an open source porject maintained by google which is the base for many browsers like google chrome and brave
i only have option to install chromium, since brave also i now available only for 64 bit os, so installing chromium then
i could maybe help, Im also not an expert but i made some stuff in c before. thats also the problem with asking to ask
yo
I’m having an issue with joining vc on my college wifi. It seems like the network is blocking discord voice features, does anyone know a way to bypass this or any other methods I can try to join vc without using mobile data?
gois in James' new video, how did he move the elements' navigation bar on top? In the sideberry settings, it's horizontal option is placed at the bottom instead. PLEASE HELP
if u cant find it in the settings he may changed it using userchrome.css
I can't seem the find where he changed it in the userchrome.css :<
his dotfiles arent up to date sadly
i saw james new video and want to start using emacs
youtube
what is this
it's a customized theme of an extension called Sideberry on Firefox
get yourself a copy of the c programming language absolute beginner 3d edition and start learning c as your first language
What should i look out for when buying a monitor, im mainly using it for studying and coding should i go for the 27inch or the 24 inch? Is 100hz fine, i sometimes play minecraft
24 vs 27 inch is just preference. 100hz is more than enough, most monitors have 60 and if ur used to 60 its alright. 100 just feels smoother and is better for fps games for tracking or reaction speed.
u may want to look out for the panel type. lcd is the most common i think, but oled has better color range with black pixels being no light at all, while most other panels use a dark shade of purple
hi guys, does anyone the cli that james shows in his 'tech i use to stay productive 2024' to time track his work ours? it's towards the end of the viedeo he just types work onto the terminal and a little graphic w/ the time and quote show up
its just basic pomodoro searched but couldnt find but this is close to ti
https://github.com/open-pomodoro/openpomodoro-cli
for the building thingy you can just search for the ascii
guyss, what's the best way to learn data structures and algorithms?? books, courses, youtube playlists?? i need recomedations
@frosty sequoia It's this
https://github.com/poetaman/arttime
Where do you wanna go exactly with it? u wanna dive too deep or just some algorithms and data structures basics?
There's a VERY decent book but VERY dense at the same time. Requires a lot of thinking and studying, Introduction to Algorithms 4th Edition
Get the 4th edition, it's also in python, 3rd in C I think (the pseudo code)
U don't need to study it all tho, it has both fundamental/basic and advanced stuff
oh nice thanks for informing
a common sense guide to a&ds books is so beginner friendly
When it comes to courses(programming/AI/development), Udacity seems to be one of the decent course providers
Might wanna check this one out https://www.udacity.com/course/data-structures-and-algorithms-nanodegree--nd256
i did not, you could try to ask this question on HOC discord which is the enterprise that created bend.
i am sure someone there will help you, if you could not find a link feel free to dm me!
please let me know if u ever find out, his dotfiles currently just break firefox sadge
atm I still don't know how to fix it, i mean his userchrome is doing fine. It's just the element navigation bar was placed in the bottom instead at the top
ah
i think it's a firefox version issue im using
what v of firefox r u usign @mighty hawk
I'm using the 132.0.2 ver.
does the ver. matter? since it's just base on the userchrome.css
i just assumed so since i’ve got pinpoint same config, but sidebery doesnt fully expand on hover
you gotta import as well the sidebery. json file
if you want an out-of-the-box support for workspaces&sidebar, you can use Zen Browser, that is an open source fork of Firefox
Any java folks
can anyone help me in dual booting ubuntu on my laptop with windows 11

do u have usb
i think this should work: https://youtu.be/alFosqQ1ang
Dual Boot Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and windows 11 . Install Ubuntu 24.04 LTS alongside windows 11. This video shows you how to install Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and dual Boot with windows 11 or windows 10. Using dual boot you can setup windows 11 / windows 10 and Ubuntu 24.04 LTS on the same drive. My website - https://kskroyal.com/

me and dontasktoask.com
Hi, any suggestions for learning ethical hacking pen test alone?
Woah i visited the site dontasktoask.com
Damm you did that ?
nope lol, just means u shouldnt ask to ask a question. read the content xd
But how was it so specific
I am learning java backend so just wanted to ask like what's the proper sequence to learn some of the concepts
Like if there's any experienced java developer so I can ask him by DMming him
anyone do competitive programming?
is linux worth switching to or na
i want to convert the laptop i use for school to linux but idk if it would be worth it/ a good idea
wait i didnt realize lol ur right
just a coincident
theres roadmap.sh/java if that helps. I learnt by making projects
I am looking for job in canada as a programmer, can anyone help?
i used to
I still didn’t do it but yes
Definetly especially Linux is not as strict as Microsoft
You have more freedom
But how would i open powerpoint slides?
Those apps aren't supported on linux are they?
I really love how you can customise it but i also need the functionality lol
You re computer science you don’t make power points bro
No lecture slides
The lecture slides and notes and tutorial questions are all on PowerPoint or word
I think there may be webpages available
Of course they are you there is a ton of Linux distributions
Oh i probably should do more research on it
Which distro would you recommend?
I've been seeing a lot of arch but it seems really long and complicated
I don t know I don’t wanna lead you to something wrong
Oh okay fair enough
There is arch I think
Wich year are you know ?
Okay well you definitely don’t need Linux know
You need to do maths and algorithms
You need a paper and a pen hahaha
I can't wait for it to end
Have you took dsa yet or not ?
Don’t worry you will always have maths , computer science is just math hidden behind a computer
Oh no I haven't started that module yet
In january we will
I don't think it'll be too hard
I've probably done like half of it already last year
Stacks
Linked lists
Arrays
Queues
Sorts and searches
It s supposed to be hard so you can have a better design thinking
Guess I'll have to study extra hard
Oh interesting do you know how to implement a stack ?
Yep
Need a top pointer to point to the next free space
Actually stack becomes interesting when we face complex algorithm
Push and pop functions
It s a way to store data
You’re French ?
Because we say normally course or lecture
Nope
The difference topics we cover like maths for computing, or algorithms or databases are called modules here
The course is made up of modules
And we have lectures for each module
He's a 38 years old, ..
nice
can someone help me with java program for array assignment?
hi
i use arch
james does too p sure
love the community
What's it like?
Would you recommend it to someone that has never used Linux before
nope. if u want to tinker with ur system its good, but its pretty unstable as you always get the newest packages
Id use lmde or linux mint as a beginner or maybe fedora
i only want to use it for the customisation
so idk if it'd be worth switching
ill definitely look into it more
and see if its something im willing to learn
for customization arch is probably the easiest option. u could do it on debian or fedora everything too, but the community for customization there is smaller
Id recommend btrfs as the file system, as u can then later on setup rollbacking if an updates failes
yeah idk the whole idea of things breaking after each update is throwing me off
but there are loads of people and documents to help fix it
sure
boot up gnome
and have fun
its not that common but its certainly a thing. You can setup grub to allow rollback tho using btrfs filesystem so if u reboot, then update, then reboot and it doesnt start, u can just rollback to before the update
sounds complicated but you just need to select btrfs in the installer and configure grub i think. i never tried tbh
you could also dual boot one stable OS like debian and arch, so that if arch fails, u can boot debian and mount ur documents and browser data there(basically link the folder to ur other os)
although id first try customizing fedora everything to see how easy or difficult it is
ill try fedora first and then bump it up to arch if i feel like it
Hey!
Could anyone please tell me how to categorize tabs in Sidebery Firefox extension? Like if I open Firefox, the tabs should be there categorized. If I want to go to the coding category, then I'll just click on the coding icon and select a tab. Just like how James does in the recent vid.
I saw it in James' recent vid but he didn't explain it
hi guys , if anyone had some experience with vs code , I need some help because it shows some abnormal behavior
did you find a solution?
it seems like debugging sessions don't end , or there is something to do with the terminal, not sure
try ubuntu and if at some point you want something more customized to you, try arch
never tried fedora
i guess not
but in your case ubuntu would be better cause of the amount of material/tutorial/docs available
never tried this one as well, sorry
no, its not. if im not wrong is light version of ubuntu or something
oh no problem
have you customised it with a wm and stuff?
ye it took some time but now i have my own arch setup
you can check my setup in this repo
https://github.com/akamee666/dotfiles
yep is my main os
dual boot with windows just because of games
hmm idk if my laptop would handle a dual boot
so ill keep one for linux
and one for my games
my only concern is having to download stuff
im sure everything coding related has a linux version
does i3 do that really cool grid thing
when you open a window
storage space is all you need
ye it does
what doesn't work with i3
actually is there some sort of documentation?
nvm found it
there are a lot of things to configure
damn
for now ill focus on these exams
afterwards ill look into all this
can i use GNOME and i3 together?
so i have less i3 config to do
yep, you can find a lot of youtube videos about i3 as well
the default config is fine
i do not know but i think not
gnome has its own window manager i guess
solved
uss
I got dual booted system as well
windows and arch
its ubuntu but instead of the gnome desktop environment/user interface, it uses kde plasma
theres i3-gnome, but id js stick to one of them
i think you should js try out different options in a virtual machine
I have not sadly 🥹 the sidebery is a json file so I think it has to be tweaked
Oh yeah I'll try this before converting my entire machine
guys, should i dual boot my gaming laptop for linux os, so i could programming and tech stuff there, i want to use neovim, and i think linux does great at those things
neovim exists for windows too and theres also WSL
but dualbooting linux also doesnt hurt
i seee, thanks for advice
np
i prefer vmware
ill find a tutorial rn
EXCUSE ME
my laptop has 16GB of RAM???
it runs games like microwave wtf
maybe its the GPU or something
well i think i meet the requirements for vmware
oh i found a linux for noobs playlist
good rice
ty!!
hi guys! do you know what is james using to make that localhost node and markdown rendering? he opens it at 10:22

I saw something about doom emacs but I don't get it, that is like an IDE? can't I just do it on terminal?
probably a emacs plugin
so it seems no vim / terminal alternative right
emacs run on terminal, no?
dont really know, want to do it on a VPS. I know I can run some emacs instance on terminal but dk if it has all features
I am really happy that scholz made a new video
i was suprised i tough it was an old one
just saw this, thanks @frosty sequoia and @solar torrent !
gois does anyone know what device that is?
It looks like a ZTE Nubia Red Magic 9 Pro, a big chungus gaming phone
https://www.reviews.org/au/mobile/redmagic-9-pro-review/
goddamn search skills! Thankee king! I greatly appreciate your help 🙇♂️
I wonder if James bought the phone for soley on gaming 🤔
yoo gois I got a question and I know you lot are knowledgeable in this matter. Any advice for a newbie who wants to get into Linux? An advice too please on navigating through its terminals 🙇
Question: Which laptop specs do I need to have for gaming + coding + video editing + affordable + nerdy+ minimalistic design.
prolly atleast 16gb ram. and probly atleast an 8th intel cpu. idk much about graphics cards but u need a good one for gaming
i dont know too much abt computer specs though, someone else can probably help
Anyone have any thinkpad recommendations? i was thinking of getting the T480 since the ssd and ram are upgradable. but if anyone else has any reccomendations i'll look into them. just need a reliable laptop thats good for the price
BTW why aren't you Going for laptop with high performance?
Like i13 Hx series
Thanks
i guess mainly the price? im not really that familiar with thinkpads which is why im asking what ones would be good
i'll check that one out
also i dont need good graphics i wont be gaming or using it much for that

sorry about the mic peaking wont happen again bossmans
also I misspoke at the end, it's a galaxy fit 3 not a galaxy watch 3 wont happen again bossmans
Music from #InAudio: https://inaudio.org/
Cinematic Epic Music by Infraction [No Copyright Music] / Action
The abv video might help u.
does the i13 Hx series have better specs than the t480?
13th gen> 8th gen,.
Hx series means high performance.
Check out lenovo loq series
id js set up a virtual machine and try different distros like linux mint, fedora, PopOs(maybe), debian(maybe) or arch(if u wanna get rlly technical and dont care about stability).
for the terminal:
- read man(manual) pages by using: „man <cmd“
- learn about basic commands like cd, ls, cp, mv, rm, touch, echo first.
- learn how commands work generally: all commands are executable binaries located in directories specified in the PATH variable. eg: when echo $PATH prints /usr/bin:/usr/sbin it means that commands are in /usr/bin and /usr/sbin so if u type „ls“ in the terminal it will find the ls binary in either /usr/bin or /usr/bin
- learn how command arguments and options work: for „ls -a /„ -a would be an option(meaning include hidden files), and „/„ would be an argument(meaning in directory /), so it would list all files in /. these options are explained in the man pages.
- learn about command option arguments(like „ls —sort=extension“ listing files sorted by .extension in the current directory)
- learn about the linux filesystem hierarchy structure standart(FHS): /etc is global configuration, /home/<username> is user files, …
nvm i still should study physics and ill probably only confuse u anyway.
u can ping me if u got questions. id just try using the terminal as much as you can as thats the way youll learn it. also when installed to hardware, keep backups regularly using something like timeshift or snapper.
If you wanna get rlly good with terminal and make ur own scripts, id advice to learn bash(most common shell) or posix shell(most compatible shell but more difficult to use, faster too). shells are just the programms that resolve commands typed in the terminal and handle stuff like variables, ifs, whiles, …
shell redirections are also common so id learn that too, in its most primitive form it can be used to write the output of a command to a file: echo „hello world“ > foo.txt. echo prints „hello world“ to standart output and writes standart output to foo.txt
oh and .bashrc and .profile files are also important. alias command and functions can also be useful for shortcuts(like if u want to type „docs“ to „cd ~/Documents“)
alr physics time 😩
So... my keyboard broke. Again. I need a low profile keyboard, but on a budget, given that this is the second dead keyboard this semester. I need keyboard recommendations!! ⌨️
I recommend and RK keyboard series
they are budget friendly mechanical keyboards like $20 and below
I have an RK61 keyboard for 3 years now and despite spilling water over it three times, it's still alive. when you do spill water tho, immediately unplug it and make sure to disassemble and let it air dry for 42 hours so there is no moisture on its PCB.
check out his productivity workflow 2026, under the description of that vidoe there is a link to his belongings including his tech. It's linked there
Ok, what's the name?
productivity workflow 2026
😭not the video name but thank you
oh that's why i told you to check it
since i don;t know the exact name hahaha
Lol it's fine, ty for helping
What’s your budget
What are you using it for
hey yall, im in the market for a boox eink tablet for notetaking and PDF annotating. maybe some light reading. which one should i get? i prefer single-use BW kinda tech...!
just wondering since everyone in this server is a master at this kinda stuff
40 bucks but i found one now
Okay
are you into courses or books tho? and for what you want to get into linux? is it for normal daily usage, or for career like sys admin stuff?
Since Linux is an operating system (like windows), you can install it either on a hardware like laptop/pc on maybe external drive or separate partition with dual boot. But it's always better to install it on a virtual machine first in the beginning, could be VirtualBox or VMware or a similar software that acts as an independent machine
And since you're new to this, it's better to find a Linux distribution that has a desktop environment already installed so it looks familiar(UI like windows with buttons and menus etc), I think Linux Mint or Ubuntu could be a good choice for that
Installing these distros is simple if ur installing them on a fresh drive that doesn't have data. U won't need to partition the desk with cli or install bootloaders or anything for them manually (unless you wanted to)
Then start your Linux journey, which will probably begin by learning a bit of the abstract picture, what the kernel does and what is a user space, then learn terminal commands for basic use.
From that point u can get into more complicated topics like init and its implementations, installing services, processes, networking and so on.
For books:
The book "How Linux Works" was probably the major one (for me).
If u can spend money on comptia Linux+ official book (or can get it somehow 🔨 ) would be nice.
For courses there are those big youtube videos that are for free and are also pretty good, studying one big course from these ones on youtube is a nice milestone. There's a paid course I think $23 a month in zerotomastery academy.
And there's an interactive website https://linuxjourney.com/ I haven't tried it, but I heard ppl who did and liked it.
@mighty hawk
what does that mean?
it means u shoudltn ask if someone can help u but instead just say what u need help with
Heyy guys, anyone here have a basic knowledge on SysML modelling ?
this lol
Anyone has tried before to generate a system model through coding ?
what type of system model and what language ?
Any system model with python
can u give an example
Hi guys ، anyone can help me find a database tables for airlines company ?
hey guys, I don't know if this is the right place to ask this, but does anyone here use DOOM Emacs for notes? I'm starting now and would like some tips, maybe some configs and plugins
hey guys i'm elsa and i have some questions about my computer
like my computer is a windows 7 2gb what videos games can i install on it
what kinda games are u playing
there should be samples i think in kaggle, if not u can just create dummy data
idk if it qualifies as coding but i did some ML in python
since its machine learning itll require heavy use of libraries such as matplotlib pandas numpy etc
yeah!! I use doom emacs for notes and it's great but balancing between having a config and actually using it versus constantly tweaking is where it gets tricky
but for some plugins and configs would depend on the use-case
I assume for note taking you would want to be using org-mode right?
dm abt it if you'd like to talk
Not many unfortunately, u should probably look into more web based games like crunchy.io
doom
from before 2000
Hey! Do anyone do Email Marketing?
try some emulator to play nds or gba games
I'm looking for the mathematical answer to the question of how knn algorithm works with more than two features, does anyone know where I can find it?
Can these be bought like fully assembled or you have to buy the kit and assemble it yourself

i had been there for a while , let me know if u didn't figure it out yet
yep please me out if you are free
?
hit me up in the dms pihu
ah i see
by any chance you also know about how to download stuff with lazy.nvim? I'm hating this
you have my respect for sending all of this, I'm not great but I'm getting by with arch and it's been some months.
My suggestion is to focus on a specific problem you need to solve and learn the solution while having a general direction of where you want to get.
There are a lot of stuff you can learn, if you can't handle falling into rabbit holes then having a clear direction or knowing what you need is essential
omg idek what that is bru
don't worry I managed to find a solution
Is the package manager for neovim, a fancy text editor
spent 2 hours at least to understand that lazy.nvim x0
lol i chose Plug for that reason. its way simpler
wait i think he updated his dotfiles 2 weeks ago
looks like this after I imported both userChrome and sideberry.json
if you can make it simpler just make it simpler, kickstart is for beginners after all. Ok now I stop crying, but I have a point!
wait that sounds rlly nice. ill try that the next time i want to procrastinate. ty!!
it was literally just creating the pluginName.lua in the right spot with the code from its repo, and then mentioning that plugin in the lazy-plugins.lua.
Most of the problem was that there are multiple ways to do the same thing, and somehow >4 videos and the docs didn't help at all, I'm dum
bad docs are rlly the worst
Can anyone help me to fix this issue 🥺😭. This always happens with the online compliers
can't see much if anything
could be a browser compatibility issue or just a website's JS bug (which you could report)
the best way to learn VJing ? resolume arena software. any advice?
I recommend using VSCode for desktop and installing Java directly on your PC, online editors usually have a lot of bugs
my laptop suddenly shut down
while running on 2nd dec
now its onn
but the problem is the charging indicator is not showing whether its plugged in or not
but the its charging 10 min 1%
so what's the problem here ?

charger?
my laptop: lenovo IdeaPad slim 3

Hey guys!!
Do you know how to install the MS word, Excel and all other Microsoft stuff on the laptop?
I already had them installed but they are not working anymore and I'm clueless as to why it's not working
i recently bought one for 27 dollars in g2a. If useful, not the most cheap but cheaper than microsoft official page, it did take talking with the seller because it was not working initially
does anyone wanna b my accountability buddy im trying to get a cert by end of the year
Are there somebody here understand about algorithms on social media platforms? For example, if I want to highlight a topic I am discussing to be widely visible, should I use a hashtag and push it to trend by using it on multiple posts?
sure
Hello guys,

Hello, I have a problem, I downloaded linux mint cinnamon and when I select a wi-fi network, it doesn't show me the place where I need to write the password. If anyone knows the solution, I would appreciate your help.
Hey, I was wondering since I installed more apps on E (a separate internal drive) right now rather than in C drive, is there anyone who does the same, I wonder what'll happen if I plug it out and put them in a new laptop or PC
As long as you got the right drive connectors and you are plugging into another slot with the same form factor (2.5 inch to 2.5 inch) you should be alright make sure you backup data before you do anything and have the right storage format
heyyyy! as I know, If you plug off E separately and transfer it to another PC, you can access the files, but most of the apps will not work because they are installed on the operating system, which I guess is on the C drive, you'll probably need to reinstall the apps on the new PC for them to function correctly
I meant *unplug not plug off😁
Hey, I expermented on it just now and the results is that it's actually workin
The thing that's not there is some apps that it's settings are on C
is there a e-reader brand with the exterior design like onyx boox but with the quality and durability like kobo?
bc i heard that onyx has really bad build quality
That's something else... I want to know who made all of this happen and how you found out xd
hahahaha my friend showed it to me
Your friend must have some strange thought patterns if he found this without a feed, I'm telling you he might be a killer or a funny person
I didn t know hungarian where into algoorithm
yes hahaha he always looking for computer science memes
Hey in any case thanks for sharing, it amazes me how much effort has been put into that
we gotta teach them more efficient algos though
we gonna lose that money on perf other than brain cells
more complex dances hahaha
we need to understand how to fly first 0_
okay this one are gonna be tough to make it
nothing is impossible if they give me the money, I wish I was dancing with these guys ahahahahjah
have a good one :P
Guys, I just learned that when people talking about monorepos, they usually mean putting multiple folder in the same repositories where you can have one branch (main) or multiple. But have you try branch-based monorepo, where the main branch is the template that you're making, and the actual project is on the branches. While the repository name itself is the tech that you're using.
Something just like this
https://github.com/khenjyjohnelson/codeigniter3-omnitags
(also posted in general-help-chat) Hello, can somebody guide me? I'm on my first year of a CS degree and I want to know more about how computers work. Can someone tell me how to improve towards being a better student? (like reading books about algorithms and that stuff) and what should I learn apart from what I'm studying in class? (I'm working with ADA and a tiny bit of python, next semester I'll work with Java), would you recommend to dive deep into any particular language or other things?
use linux maybe
wont help with algoritgms but youll get a lot of general knowledge
Isn't monorepo when your company group all of its projects (or a big chunk of them) under the same repository? am I confused?
honestly the answer will remain subjective as long as you'll be more specific. Do you want...
- to get great grades?
- to have a more holistic understanding of the entire CS field even if superficially?
- to be a better programmer? even that it's general and it depends on what kind of problems you want to solve
Something about how networks work would be nice, but the getting great grades also appeals to me tbh 😅
sadly I don't like networking enough, but a project I'd like to do is building my own router and then giving certain networks only to specific devices. This also falls under the devops umbrella which might interest you
I don't have anything specific to getting better grades (not interested at all eheh), but I have for learning in general since I love it.
The best resource I found so far to how to learn better is this guy's old videos, especially the Encoding one. Blooms principles and taxonomy are essential to me.
Also understanding all the main parts of a study method, especially the most unknown ones like encoding, priming, and how to write great notes (obsidian is great :P)
Lastly these are my notes on how to learn better but idk if you'll understand them
Its good and all to learn things on the side but I'd say, focus on the following in order: getting an internship, getting some kind of paid on campus research that's basically an internship during the school year, grades, personal project fully built out that you can show at an interview, then networking with people who can get you a job. If i had to do it all over again, I'd work towards an app I can monetize so unemployment hurts less.
In terms of learning more about computer stuff, I liked the computer history museum in San jose, but really it was just computing machines from way back then, big room sized computers, then modern stuff. Intro to computer science was decent at an overview of computer science as a whole. You'll most likely have to take a networking course so that can probably wait. The computer architecture course explained a lot about how computers work.
yo has anyone here worked with react-native and expo? need some help
Sure, thank you! I’ve always wanted to try Obsidian but never actually used it bc it doesen’t sync across devices
I’ll def be checking the videos you’ve recommended
you can use syncthing for that. It's a software to sync files between devices of the same network (and beyond if you setup it). Open source and free
I also got a starter for obsidian with some tips to take notes and stuff if you're interested
I think that’s not possible in my campus, I’ve searched for some internship on the web and on the internet but it doesen’t say anything
Here in Spain, it’s not the most common thing to go for an internship while studying in your first years of uni
I don’t care about it being what most people do, but my uni seems to not have any of that. Still, I could ask some of my teachers
Okayy!
can anyone suggest R programming books?
hi can someone help me with oops? i have a program with functions but now i want have to use classes. i'm not sure how to structure the classes..
What language? Have u tried using chatGPT?.. it'll most likely be able to help with structure of class
Python. i did use chatgpt. it did give code. but i guess i didnot understand how it did that? like what is the criteria in defining a class and how to segregate the functions into methods under classes.. i guess i will try asking it more questions in different approach
check out corey schafer's tutorial on that
if u dont get it still maybe send the code here and if someone can help we can try
In this Python Object-Oriented Tutorial, we will begin our series by learning how to create and use classes within Python. Classes allow us to logically group our data and functions in a way that is easy to reuse and also easy to build upon if need be. Let's get started.

Do you still need help @lusty parcel ?
I am looking into it. But the ChatGPT is of no help. or i can't understand
Can i DM? @upper tulip
Advice the rookie;
I have been using RequestHandler interface from Express directly into the routes
I was wondering INDUSTRY large scale projects, is it common to use RequestHandler in both middle ware and routes
Or just the routes or just the middleware,
Can be a Dumb question but I just want to follow the common practices
I sent the gps coordinates thru LoRa...In receiver side, corrupted coordinates were received, i was using software serial for both gps and LoRa....the output is having garbage values basically...does anyone know how to solve this issue?
Sorry i didn't see that message. But sure you can DM me if you still need help 🙂
hey! does anyone know how to work with GCal API integration using Nodejs? I was struggling with getting nvm set up yesterday and I think I was able to partially uninstall the version of nvm I was using but I'm not sure how else to proceed.
additional question: would it be easier for me to download Nodejs from the website as opposed to downloading nvm from the coreybutler github (I have the nvm_setup.exe file on my system right now)?
I took this out from a moldy CPU. Is it possible to still use it? If yes, please do tell how I can use it 🙂
if it works, I'd check its health before putting any data into it. Must be old I think
i think it works fine. it was just a power issue
yea I meant using software to check the health of HDDs, you cannot know from the exterior if it's going to die soon or not internally
Guys, I have a little screen bleeding in my newly bought hp omen 16, at bottom left, is it normal? Or should I ask for replacement?
Plss respond ASAP, and as many
If it's messed up, get a replacement. Nothing should be broken in a new comp
When I find you tubers I like, I download all the videos in their channel. That'll fill up your hdd. You can put it in your desktop or buy a USB adapter.
ahhh i seee okiee
okay thankss
Some say screen bleed is common
I will call customer care now, for replacement.
try emailing to twitter support, however it is unlikely they'll restore your account due to deactivation policy but worth giving a try
twitter support is trash, share ur new @ will follow
Guys which tutorial can i follow on youtube to install Arch and dual boot windows and Arch Linux, because there are lot of tutorials on this topic
archwiki
you can also use archinstall script IIRC
Guys i need your help
Guys anyone of you got into MIT , Harvard , Yale , Penn , Princeton etc (world's top universites) . if so please dm me . i need your help.
how can I sync files across network... syncthing doesnt support ios
because I have android and IOS Devices
havent tried it but theres https://mobiussync.com/
or you can use google drive/onedrive/any SMB server and just store all your files there instead of on local storage
these storage providers can also be integrated on ios
@golden blaze
Does anybody use arch + hyprland ?
Is it a scam????
i think it's in discord tos
Bruh I thought you, ban people who send scam links😓
we do
Oh yea u did, that some guy named fighaas had sent scam link
I can't see his msg now
yep
thank you as well for letting us know and for the kind words 🤗
i do, why?
I watched 3 videos of typecraft for installing and ricing hyprland on arch, just wanted to ask how can i continue from now on how can i use other's dotfiles to rice the hyprland for my own liking, u don't need to answer, because i am researching myself anyways, but if you are experienced in hyprland it would be great if you give me some tips because im very new to arch linux and hyprland, coming from windows and used ubuntu for aorund 4 months
i hope i didn't leak anything with the htop thing lol
does anybody know how to trace facebook account, any thing, a blog, book video, or instructions
i need to see if the account is real or fake
My kali Linux is not starting on VMware and showing above screen. Even VMware update installation is getting failed .This was not not happening in my old pc everything was working fine. Please some one help.
what exactly do u mean by "trace"?
Did you download the VM image or installing iso? Did you download it from official website? Can you see if your machine settings are matching the min requirement?
The boot diagnostics aren't rly informative most of the time, the kernel boots too fast to see anything.. But if u pay close attention focus on the errors as the modules loaded by the kernel dont help that much with diagnosis
also maybe boot another kernel, its under advancrd boot options in grub
in case u have multiple installed
I tried that too but shows the same screen.
I downloaded vm image from official website.
Please mention which settings should match the requirements
howdy people! quick question--is a laptop with 4 gb ram and Intel Pentium Silver N5030 CPU good enough to run java and python on vscode?
i mean where is it login - location etc
yes but you might experince some slowdown - if you are working on large projects - but you are just learning java and python then its fine
thanks for the help, but could you suggest some other text editors that I could use for big projects without facing much lag...?
checkout neovim or emacs, they are rather advanced tho
Neovim (?
it's on the website, but if you downloaded the virtual machine image it should set everything automatically for u. Are you sure u downloaded the VMWare one? What did you do exactly to install?
it's hard to help without context, but maybe follow a youtube video on how to use the vm
I opened .vmx file with VMware and these files were working very well on my old pc. This error screen is only showing on my new device.
I think this problem is due some system settings.
If someone knows which settings I should check or which modules are required to run kali please tell.
.
if same steps work on diff pc what's diff about that pc? is it a different operating system? Do you have all drivers installed on this one you're trying?
maybe check bios for virtualization if it's enabled
idk im not a wizard : p
maybe also give full permissions to vmware run it as administrator or could be the vm file itself corrupt and didn't download fully or something
Same os microsoft windows
so confusing. I think it doesn't have hyper-v so I can only run iso file.
VMWare working in "Windows Hypervisor Platform" mode does not have all the features, including virtualizing the virtualization extensions (Intel VT-x & AMD-V), which is needed for nested virtualization. If you need that, you'll need to disable the Windows hypervisor and force VMWare to use its own hypervisor.
If you visit kali.org u'll see they have a VM image for hyper-v too
@red ore So basically, either setup the hyper-v image, or disable hyper-v and let vmware do its own virtualization. U can disable hyper-v from bios or from the features menu uncheck it then reboot
I also wanna say, i'm sorry if i respond late, I use discord from browser atm and I don't visit it that often
The solution mentioned above should help : )
Np thanks a lot.
Hi everyone! I'm looking to get advice on an IOT for what I'm planning to work on. The project is realtime car parking detection that ill eventually create a web app for users to view n access. I have esp32 cam, rpi components
Im not sure if this is achievable with OpenCV or if I have to use YOLO. There is no direct power source where I plan to hoist it on, so I was thinking maybe a power bank to last atleast 4 hours? For connectivity, I've seen LORA and it might be a good option
Pic for reference, the pole is between cars is where im planning to place the cam
So yeah, please lmk if this is even feasible thanks 🙂

Im actually interested in this because ive been wanting to do some AI stuff
Hi everyone. Is there anyone interested in embedded systems?
heyyy r u still looking for people?
i've good exp with FE and BE, not ml though, but i hve worked with ai models integration.
from there on since you already know the fundamentals now you can just apply whatever you want
like you can choose your theme
something i would suggest too is pywall
its like changes the theme based on the wallpaper
or hellwall
made in c instead of python
you can check the bars too
and really linux is how you want your system to look like
or go to r/unixporn and steal some pretty configs
agree, but don't forget about functionality, and that you don't have infinite time to modify the color of of your hello-kitty based OS.
Yes, it comes from experience
xD i still havent changed my color schme after almost 1 year of the same setup wm
escape from the dotfiles before it's too late 0_
hi im bba graduate and wanting to do my masters in business analytics in australia. as im new to programming and have no clue, can anyone with same course suggest me should i learn sql or python? or give me reason why not to do this course if im new and suggest similar course 😭 pleaseeeeeeeeeeee
Wait then how are you supposed to rice then? You need config files from which you can copy to your files and apply changes to your system
to then proceed to make the neck beard maneuver backflipping into your chair until 2AM when the little fairy will ask you: "Hey bro how it's been?!" it wasn't, it will never be, it wasn't "being", but you managed to have an OS that would make your anime girl cushion rosik... I use arch btw
Bro what 💀
idk you tell me, do you use arch btw? ahhaahahahah
Yes
noice me too ahhahahja
Can anyone do a mock interview with me in Python? Have an upcoming interview and need all the help I can get
In return will give u a referral if i get the gig lol
i have no clue
Did i do this right
Hey guys, in your opinion. What's the most important programming languages to study has a begginer?
anyone know how to rebind the hisense touch eink refresh button to turn the page on koreader?
https://inventwithpython.com/ free python books
The one that best achieves your own personal goals. For people who don't know themself I'd pick one of the most popular to go safe
Understand what kind of software you want to build, that will filter most of the options out there.
If you do school check the curriculum. I'd study another language in the meantime unless it aligns w your goals
Hi guys any experts or well experience in Django here? if you have time to help can you please dm me, its regarding the Django admin panel styles not being applied I recently added tailwind CSS and a UI lib (Flowbite) in my Django project after that the built in Django admin panel styles is gone if you have experience this before and fixed it please let me know am desperate for a solution and help 😦
Thx man
i recommend learning some c at some point as it teaches u to know what the computer is rlly doing
is there anyone here understands jwt in deep?
am just confused about how iss and aud claims are used
please dm if u got time, tyy
Thx man
Hey my laptop is having some issues with it's battery life few days earlier it was depleting rapidly and now it just works on 0 charging like whenever the charger is pluged in as soon as I plug it out it turns off what's the problem?
In short, the battery life has expired.
ur battery is cooked sorry
Is that because of something I did or it happens normally?
in JSON based objects there properties and their values.
in JWT these properties in the payload part of the JWT are basically called claims
JWT consists of 3 parts. header, payload, signature right? the properties of payload part are called claims. header has info about the token itself like the (signing) algorithm used. Signature is simply using the public key from hashing both header+payload with a secret key if you used an asymmetric algorithm.
iss is a mandatory property(claim), u can give it any name, it just refers to whoever is issuing the jwt. Your app's name for example
Ops, I reread your message, i missed the aud part. The iss is the token creator/provider, aud is the opposite. It's the recipient. "The audience of a token is the intended recipient of the token."
The JWT will contain an aud claim that specifies which Resource Servers the JWT is valid for. If the aud contains www.myfunwebapp.com, but the client app tries to use the JWT on www.supersecretwebapp.com, then access will be denied because that Resource Server will see that the JWT was not meant for it
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/28418360/jwt-json-web-token-audience-aud-versus-client-id-whats-the-difference
No it's normally my battery is cooked like you
You can buy a new one
but why are aud and iss are important? I mean, isn't the signature enough?
cuz what happens in the server is validating the signature then validating the issuer and audience
why validating the issuer and audience matters? if the signature validation didn't pass then validating issuer and audience doesn't make sense to me (ofc there's something am missing here but am thinking loudly)
that's one thing.
the other thing is:
ok, the issuer is the one who created the token and the audience is the one whose this token made for him. and?
how should i make use of this? I mean without using issuer and audience, what's gonna happen?
and ty for ur response btw, i appreciate it
No problem about the thinking out loud part.
Look, the signature is about validating that the token hasn't been manipulated by someone then resent to the server. Because the server HAS to trust the payload hasn't been manipulated by attackers. It's the whole point of a JWT.
If there isn't a signature that means u can forge your own JWT with any value you want and provide it to the server. So if the server is basing roles based on a claim, u can get admin privs => escalating your privileges in the application.
That's the purpose of the signature, it's about the token itself.
Now, you have 2 apps communicating, how do you know the JWT is from app X and not app Y? And how do you know that the app Z will be the JWT you created if you were app X.
So the claims now are about the applications using the token not the token itself.
Bear in mind when developing apps, there's a whole team in the company for the development cycle that includes security assessment
Though, app X can include iss or aud claim, but app Y might overlook it and not even use it. But it all depends on the context. They're mandatory but u can create the JWT however u want and include the claims you want. But their purpose is for security and ensuring that the token is created from maybe app X
To clarify the signature part of a JWT more, if there was no signature, the token would be a JSON object that's base64 encoded and that's it. It's like sending a POST request to any API to update a resource
am sorry, I've read what you said many times and still reading it but I still didn't understand
It's totally fine, it's not a straightforward topic
What do you know about signing and hashing data?
What from what I said also doesn't ring the bell?
what confusing me is: the signature is made using claims (aud, iss, other claims)
so if the signature is wrong, it doesn't matter if the aud or iss are correct or not.
you gonna say: how do I know that the jwt is from app X and not from app Y
consider this scenario:
the server has created this jwt
jwt { key: "some_key", iss: "api", aud: "flutter" }
if the server received a jwt which their claims is like this:
jwt { key: "some_key", iss: "api", aud: "attacker" }
they can find out that this token is wrong cuz the signature is wrong
replying to the first paragraph, the claims are checked only after the token's verification
unless the app is misconfigured and this is a problem (a big one)
This is why you need to learn about the hashing part of the JWT
I don't know much, am a fresh backend engineer
I studied hashing in data structures but
and studied jwt for the sake of building my apps, I tried to see the mathematics behind jwt (prime numbers, rsa, etc)
okay, it makes since
@frigid jewel let me explain it fast,
on your jwt creation
- you have your jwt structure the header and payload with its claims ready
- you prep a private key (in asymmetric algo) with openssl or any tool
- you extract your public key from the private key
- private key signs the hashed header and payload with the private key and adds it as a signature
- But there's a public key that is used to verify the signature
SO, if you have the public key, that is normally shared with anyone and not a problem to share it, you can verify the signature of the token
The private key is used to sign + the public key (that is extracted from the private key with openssl also) is used to verify.
Any app using the public key can verify the validity of the signature. BUT HERE IS THE CATCH. The public key must come from a trusted place that app X provides that app Y can fetch or send a request to get it. Because if app Y trusts ANY public key that means u can create ur own token, sign it and provide it with public key and signature would be verified
yeah, i looked up the endpoint for public keys it's usually /.well-known/jwks.json
is it more clear now? Or still not that much?
I think i understand what u said, sorry i wanna ask another question related to that (you can reply whenever u want)
the server created this token:
jwt {
key: "some_key",
iss: "api",
aud: "flutter"
}
and flutter client used it and everything is fine, what if someone stole the whole token of the flutter client?
the server is doomed right?
The server itself? no. But if that key claim you have is used to access sensitive information, that means whoever stole the token can access this sensitive information
or sensitive functionality
it highly depends on the context
But the token being stolen, stealing users' tokens is a problem/vulnerability in itself that shouldn't happen
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh
I understand now
if we got two applications (App A, App B) share the same signing key, one app could issue a token that another app mistakenly trusts.
so, when we use iss and aud:
When App A issues a JWT includes iss = appA.com
and another user got the token from App A and tried to access authorized resource from App B. App B receives it, the signature will pass but iss validation will fail
and if that user tried manipulate the iss and make it equal to appB.com
the signature validation will definitely fail
ty soooo much, man. I really appreciate ur help
Proud that you got it! 💪 good luck!
please help me to fill this , thank you
dev c++ was good enough for my college cpp studies, bigger projects vscode or visual studio would be better
anyone here studied microservices?
neovim???
!!?
hell no
i am not major or specialized in programming
c++ is like minor course or beginner course for me
i don't need to use c++ too much
fair
my teacher said in the slides as well
if you want faster and light weight ide, just use dev c++
visual studio is too slow, but if you need full fledge, modern c++ ide is ok
i tried visual studio before, it took me 45 seconds to show "hello world" in terminal

<@&942391219206647828>
You don't need any fancy ide. Just install kali linux and run code in shell
It might difficult to learn at the beginning, but when you get used to it. Everything incredibly fast
if coding is not the focus investing time in learning relatively complex tools (especially Kali and the shell :| ) doesn't seem a good idea.
If you want to get through it fast, stop overthinking and use whatever it's the easiest/simplest solution.
If you care even just a little, vscode should be your first consideration since it's also ""the standard"" pretty much
and yes, I'm upset too there's no neovim in there ahahahjahjahja
With all my respect, installing kali to run cpp code in a shell is the worst advice i ever seen online
Tho anyone can still compile cpp code with gcc on whatever os
Neovim?
Oh i don't see ur replay
neovim >>>
i dont code c++ tho

I am trying to authenticate my app, but it's not really working
I gave up coding a few months ago to focus on my health, I want to get back into coding again but seems like 6 months of 0 coding made me forget everything.
Anybody know any good refresher course or any basic good fundamental course where I can relearn stuff again.
I am mostly looking into c++,c #, unity area as I do have experience in it
Hello guys any next js, node js developer here?
i recommend CS50 since u are already familiar w it, would be easy for u
when you learned programming back then, did you build any small project?
I had the same experience with you when I learned coding 3 years ago. I forget everything because I only learn and watch passively (not implementing it)
My projects were from my graduation but since I was a graphics student, most of the stuff is in videos on a cheap website.
Once I got a job I never did any projects, I was focused on other things, didnt wanted to make my life just coding and have no other interests
Has anyone gone through online computer science degree that is free? Just for fun, not for the certificate.
Which one do you recommend?
cs50 , fullstackopen
Hey, still need help on this?
Idk about free degree, but freecodecamp has some interesting programs
I did the basic html/css one in grade 9 when I started learning

hey hey can anyone tell me how i can install kali linux in my chromebook
any of you guys have recommendation on how to become a software QA tester?
theres official documentation, i can probably help you if something doesnt work specifically. But if id be guiding you through it now youd get stuck later on as the installation already teaches some basic concepts
huh i am having help of chatgpt but hes sendinng me commands which arenot working
thats cuz chatgpt sucks. https://www.kali.org/docs/installation/hard-disk-install/
Installing Kali Linux (single boot) on your computer is an easy process. This guide will cover the basic install (which can be done on bare metal or guest VM), with the option of encrypting the partition. At times, you may have sensitive data you would prefer to encrypt using Full Disk Encryption (FDE). During the setup process you can initiate ...
not sure if kali linux works with arm chromebooks. So make sure u have x86_64(amd64)
Hii what’s the minimum/optimal pc spec requirements to be able to run VMware or virtualbox?
just kidding i dont know
hi all! quick question
I enjoy making content and want to be a pro at some point later. i have 1.5TB of pics and vids in my iCloud and i want to buy a disk to keep the files.
I did some research on youtube and it says to buy external hard disk for raw files, but buy sandisk if i wanna keep raw files that i will use, back and forth, to be edited, but not having to directly paste these files in my laptop, every time i want to edit it.
Why only 60 days? Is it visa concerns?
Minimum 16GB of RAM n 8cores cpu will be sufficient
not due to visa issues but mainly because im graduating in 2 to 3 months and i want to graduate with a job
To be very very honest, graduating with a ml / or even a general swe job by the next 2 months would be crazy cus youd have to had applied weeks ago to get into an interview process by now. Interview processes take like 2/3 months anyways. So I dont think you should have that deadline for yourself. And idk if ur based in the usa but most full time swe interview processes start in aug - december and most ppl have roles rn and not a lot of hiring going on rn, but some govt roles are def still hiring. So my plan for you is to 1. find companies that are hiring rn (amazon is hiring rn ik that) 2. connect with those companies recruiters on linkd, as many as u can tbh. 3. Ask any of your friends who're already working at that company to send a referral for that role. 4. Make sure the posted date for the role is fairly new, a week max. 4. Continue studying interview prep and applying. Really dont stress abt trying to find something in 2-3 unless u have a lot of connections, its unnecessary stress. 5. If you did any internships try to reah out to them if they have any open roles.
Its def doable if youre persistent and lucky but 2-3 is a short deadline, just keep applying a lot
also if you dont care abt the particular role I would also apply to ai/ml or tech consulting roles, they hire a lot too And if youre based in the usa u should apply for federal roles. And ml is competitive for new grads with only a bachelors degree, as we know. So if you don't know ur stuff i would focus all my attention to general swe interview prep.
thank you sooo much! i have been applying on and off to around 50 companies in the past 2 months, but ill try applying more and follow the steps that you mentioned
yupp, im focusing on swe interview prep rn
check the official docs dude
i wonder if anyone used to work with openvpn and freeradius?
Hi, does anyone know if I can turn my phone into a dumb phone? I want to be able to use Google Maps to check my email and WhatsApp, and my idea would be to install an operating system that allows this. Does anyone know how to do this?
You can try out apps like dumbify
I'm getting into web design as a hobby. Just learning HTML and CSS to make a fun blog site on NeoCities. I'm looking for a text editor alternative to VScode. I'd like something more minimal but still good for a novice. Any suggestions?
Yoo I'll be choosing CYBER SECURITY for my major too
Did Any one know how to MASS-PRODUCE A.I. in any method ? My instinct said to Me, that we capable to do it now. And it is can be surprisingly having a drastic change in many industries.
I don't mean to snatch over other's people job but in robotics term, Like Drone or something very small in other cases.
Check out Brackets if you haven't already. It's pretty minimal while still being suited for web dev and from what I've seen pretty popular with other devs working on their NeoCities page. It's also got a live update preview for web pages so you'll see your changes without having to refresh.
Thanks!
np, have fun with the NeoCities!
does anyone here know how to handle the unreal engine? the fortnight one is bugging for me @everyone
General questions...ping me when replying.
I want to choose a browser for my laptop. What browser should I go for? I mainly like browsers that use less ram and are like easy to handle/customize and are simple.
vivaldi, the best one. You can customize almost everything, has a mobile version, sync, and so far its the one that uses the least ammount of ram
How does brave fare?
brave is very cool but I think it uses more ram (not completely sure tho) and its less customizable
brave is kinda bloated IMO
with many features and also some crypto stuff. The answer depends on your need tho. You can use netsurf if you don't need modern features, but if u want proper extension support id go with firefox or chromium
brave, vivaldi, opera, edge, etc. are all based on chromium anyways, so the only thing that may differ at ram usage is how many unnecessary features it has
it'd also be good if you would use something non-chromium so google wont get even more users so they can't rule the whole browser market
man firefox out of the box uses more ram than vivaldi, and vivaldi has a ton of features
still vivaldi uses more ram than chromium

I NEED A COMPUTATIONAL POWER OF A NASA SUPERCOMPUTER 😭
i'll ask my question here hope that's ok :p
so basically im installing ide's and i wanted to know if read and write speeds are important. i have 1 ssd thats prioritized for booting into OS (and maybe some extra game storage) it's 1TB and the other is 4TB just for gaming. I do have an 1TB external ssd but the read and write speeds are 540 mb/s
was planning on just installing all my ide's there given i know that plugins for the ide's make the file size larger
nevermind :p i installed it into my external drive for now. i'll get another nvme ssd soon and just reinstall to that drive and reallocate project files there
No wonder electricity bill will cost for this project
