I forget if this means if the switch is going to be on or not. I'm assuming it's going to be on.

So we can assume R1 is in series with R2 & R3, but R2 & R3 are in parallel: Req = R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3

R3 isn't alone, as it has an inductor. so assuming angular frequency we turn it into R3_L = R3 + 2pi * f * L

The new equation will be R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3_L

I think this is right, but haven't touched physics in a while

great job making the differences bold. that really helps. Their expected output seems wrong if a king is worth 11 points. They have 3c Ks and Kc, that should equal 25 if a K is worth 11. In regular blackjack, a K is only worth 10, so I'm not sure what the rules are in this game.

In the second bolded part, it's hard to say. The cards are randomized through shuffling, but you're using a seed value of 0. If their code also uses the same seed, but perhaps on a different version of the python library or something, the randomness yield a different value.

hey, currently have to learn network engineering for uni and there's something that I'm not sure about; does subnetting increase the amount of usable Hosts in an IPv4 network? I'm pretty sure it doesn't but wouldn't 192.168.0.128/24 refer to a different host than 192.168.0.128/16, even though they "share" the same adress? Or is subnetting just a concept that isn't even implemented in the IPv4-packages but rather used to visualize and direct the routing of packages?

robust blaze
# blissful matrix hey, currently have to learn network engineering for uni and there's something t...

No, subnetting does not increase the number of IP addresses. With every network (even subnets) there is one “address” that used to identify the network as a whole, then another is used for the broadcast address on that network.

Subnetting is a technique of dividing a single IP network into smaller subnetworks or subnets. This can help to reduce network traffic congestion, enhance local routing capabilities, and save IP addresses.

When subnetting is done, the number of usable hosts per subnet decreases while the number of subnets increases.

Regarding your question, 192.168.0.128/24 and 192.168.0.128/16 refer to different hosts because they have different subnet masks. The subnet mask determines which part of an IP address is the network portion and which part is the host portion

Should I learn Java or C# after Python?

dapper niche
#

what are your goals?

finite bronze
#

I want to learn programming. But the main reason I want to learn these two programming languages is to make games. I don't know which one to learn first.

idle dew
#

C# tends to be used in the Gaming space, especially with programs like Unity. Someone else I am sure can confirm or deny this 🙂

dapper niche
#

yes, 100% learn C# if you are interested in game development

#

I don't really see a reason to use Java in game development unless you have some platform specific need like you want to do something on Android in Java...

#

but Unity uses C# and can build to Android or iOS for you

finite bronze
#

Thanks, I will consider what you said.

brazen walrus
# finite bronze Should I learn Java or C# after Python?

Been software engineer (job) since 2017, coding since 2015. I programmed in all of those languages.
I will try to give some advice, hope it helps 🙂

C# is game development or .NET tech stack (web apps)
.NET is not as popular when compared to Java/SpringBoot stack or Python stacks.
So I would consider C# only for game development.
C# is widely used in Unity engine, which powers most of indie games.
C++ is also very popular for game development (e.g. OpenGL library), especially for low-level hardcode stuff. It is also used in Unreal Engine, which powers a lot of AAA games.

Java and generally JVM languages (Kotlin, Scala) are for large-scaled enterprise applications (server backend).
Most of enterprise apps are jvm based.
Java and framework for it: SpringBoot is basically a gold standard for eterprise web services.
You will never be out of work, they are always required, but there is a chance you might not be doing a lot exciting stuff.

Kotlin (which is JVM based language and similar to java) is native language for Android applications. If you want to program android apps (not games), this is the language. Java is discouraged for Android apps, currently most native android apps are Kotlin based (though a lot of apps are now being written in Flutter framework which uses Dart I believe).

  1. Python
    It can do most of stuff Java can, though slower.
    But it is easy and it can do machine learning (AI). So if you want to do that, python is natural choice.

If I wanted to do game development I would pick C# and Unity Engine.
If I want to do backend/AI stuff I would pick python.

If you have any questions, let me know)

dapper niche
#

I would disagree that C# is only for game development, at least in the United States, C# is very popular among businesses, especially in areas near Microsoft satellite shops. C# is especially unpopular among FAANG type places, but otherwise, it's pretty big.

#

with a lot of FAANG layoffs, the ratio of jobs has improved for C#,too

brazen walrus
#

True, it is popular as well, what I meant that I would not consider it since in my experience Java/Python is a better/more popular choice, especially since most of the stuff nowadays running on the cloud where Java/Python is extremely popular)
All major players (AWS, GCP and Azure) are heavy on Java/Python )

dapper niche
#

also, .NET is not the web tech stack, but maybe ASP.NET

#

Azure is a microsoft product...I'm sure they're heavily integrated with .NET

#

you can probably two click publish from visual studio into an Azure deployment

#

at the end of the day, it depends on what companies/industry you want to go into, and if it's gaming, like he said, then C# is 100% the answer (compared to Java)

brazen walrus
#

Yes, I use Azure at work, we use Python for all services (major medicine company).
Previously I used Java.
Overall, again, just my opinion)

dapper niche
brazen walrus
#

Good resource! I think they have for 2023 as well

dapper niche
#

the 2023 survey shows 30.6% of developers use Java and 27.6% use C#. that's pretty close!

#

that's closer than I thought. I wonder if it will overtake Java any time soon

brazen walrus
#

I hope Python will outrun them both at some point, with AI hype and all 🙂

dapper niche
#

I personally really dislike working in Python and love working in C#, but everyone has their own preferences

heavy garden
dapper niche
heavy garden
heavy garden
# dapper niche at the end of the day, it depends on what companies/industry you want to go into...

It reallly depends what part of the game industry you want to be. It also depends on company type too. Some companies are very much not professionalised. They do whatever when programming a game. And, some companies value recruiting specialists.

Game Developer I think is a very broad term. You can breakt it down to several more terms. Gameplay programmer is one of them. They widely work on scripting the gameplay. Game Engine Developer is it is what you hear. Tools Engineer (I also did this) is something you do to help the development environment. Graphics (If you are doing .shader but Unity migt not need this. Rather technical artist) Network Engineer (If the company is a bit big) sometimes even people specialized more on physics.

But, if there is no specialization in the company probably a game developer has idea in any of this field. As well as programs these. Therefore, being a game developer requires understanding of several other discipline if the targeted companies do not have specialized roles.

finite bronze
#

Would it be enough to know C# at first to use Unreal Engine and Unity? And do you have any suggestions about programming? What I should or shouldn't do?

heavy garden
#

To be able to use Unreal Engine, you need to study C++. Although, its not a pure version of C++, still it requires for you to understand and apply c++. So learn C++ for sure if you are going to go for Unreal Engine.

Unity on the other hand preferred by many studios since it uses C#. However, C# in Unity is following a bit different pattern than usual. Due to the fact that its own SDK and Monobehaviour-based programming.

What you should do is open and start grinding experience on these programs (up to your choice). Don't worry about your clean code and what you shouldn't do at first. Because to be able to understand what you shouldn't do you should understand what you are doing. Plus, there will be loads of questions in your mind about how to do stuff.

Once you've started, I can suggest you a Game Development Math channel where you can increase your skills about space geometry, matrices etc (You don't need this but it gives you flexibility when you are writing some scripts. Also, it gives you basic understanding of what you're dealing with.)

finite bronze

Yes that would be nice and thank you all again

dapper niche

yeah, you can think my model will be like FPS, so I am already thinking about what client is going to do hit detection and confirmation. It's low/no budget, so I can't have my own dedicated servers. I am thinking I will have to accept that my game will be easy to cheat in but would like to minimize the egregiousness it to some degree...like maybe allow a very generous range where they can claim they shot from and shot to, but not from across the map or something

heavy garden
#

If it comes to systems and algorithms such as trigger systems due to object positions etc without using colliders(since it gets trigger) thats what I like

dapper niche
#

yeah, there's a game in my genre that is singleplayer. the community asks him for multiplayer often, but he says he can't do it without rearchitecting the whole game...I just don't want to get trapped in that position if possible

i did it with state management in vue using vuex. every time user chooses language using an icon it will update the value lang in vuex store. it will then automatically trigger components to reload because components are tied to data in store. I am open to suggestions from everyone!
My target is to make at least 3 projects in a time frame of 5-6 months or less if possible, I am ready to put in the time even 10-12 hours a day. Just advise me on what the most efficient projects according to you are to display my knowledge of the fields.

if you only have basic coding knowledge, I would say what's the point of trying to crack into AI and blockchain? Do you specifically want an internship in the AI/blockchain field? If not, you should focus on the fundamentals. Otherwise it's like trying to learn physics without having strong algebra skills. You'll be trying to learn two things at the same time when not knowing one thing will make learning the other that much more difficult. AI/blockchain is "fancy," but if I'm interviewing a newgrad, I'm going to rigorously test their fundamentals. Specific domain knowledge would just be a bonus.

Depends on the person, their personality, their objectives, etc.

Quick personal opinion on the various languages you listed:

Python - Good for someone unsure if programming is right for them. It'll give you quick results with very low friction and frustration. Python is also heavily used in the industry, so chances are high that it'll be useful skills in the long run.

Java - Covers same use cases as Python, but in a structured way that's more "standard" or common in other languages. There's more boilerplate and slightly more friction than Python. This structure will transition you very naturally to C#, C++, JavaScript, etc.

C++ - Most modern programmers have probably skipped this. This is the highest friction language where it'll take a lot of work to create anything resembling software you're used to interacting with (aside from command line apps). This is a good starting point and target if you're already committed to being a professional programmer and won't give up AND you want to work in domains where having knowledge of lower level details will matter or industries that use C++ (high frequency trading, game development, etc.)

Win/mac doesn't matter too much unless you want to do development specific to that platform or iOS.

brazen walrus
#

I started with java. But depends what you want to do. If it is just general question i recommend starting with python. I think it topped java some years ago as most popular language. Generally python is suited for most things devs do, from backend to scripting. It also is very well suited for big data (pyspark/databricks) and machine learning (most ML libraries are python based). I even write cloud infrastructure with it using cdk. So in 2023 I would definitely pick python over any other language unless I have some specific needs. Ps: it is also the default language people use in leetcode style interviews because it is easier to use python for graph/array problems.

It's the concepts that you learn from learning the tech that's important and will carry you forward in the future.

To effectively perform computer programming, you would typically need a computer with the following specifications:

  1. Processor (CPU): A fast and capable processor is essential for running programming tools and compiling code efficiently. Look for processors with multiple cores and high clock speeds, such as Intel Core i5 or i7, or AMD Ryzen 5 or 7.

  2. Memory (RAM): Sufficient RAM is crucial for running programming environments, compilers, and multiple applications simultaneously. Aim for at least 8GB of RAM, but consider 16GB or more for complex projects or multitasking.

  3. Storage: An SSD (Solid State Drive) is recommended for faster program loading and file access. It helps improve overall system responsiveness. Aim for at least 256GB of storage, but more is better if you work with large files or databases.

  4. Graphics: While programming doesn't heavily rely on graphics, a dedicated graphics card can be beneficial for tasks like running virtual machines or GPU-accelerated programming. Look for cards like NVIDIA GeForce or AMD Radeon with at least 2GB of VRAM.

  5. Display: A high-resolution display (Full HD or higher) provides more screen real estate for coding, debugging, and reading documentation.

yo, i'm currently learning OOP in python, and we've been doing getters and setters. but what I don't get is: what exactly does the getter do? all of the error-checking and defensive coding seems to happen in the setter, and i don't really get why the getter needs to return an attribute. this is probably a really dumb question ;)

open solstice
#

usually, when doing oop, we give variables private access, meaning we don't allow someone to do object.attribute and get the value of the attribute

#

so in that particular class you can't access to an attribute with object.attribute directly, but only using object.getAttribute()

#

we do it because it helps to protect the data

some characteristics of why some people might like thinkpads or older thinkpads:

  • function over form. instead of having things like unupgradable or repairable components to make things super thin to look good, the components do their jobs and can be replaced or upgraded as necessary.
  • reliability -- thinkpads were/are developed for the business market, where reliability counts for more than flashiness that the consumer market products often make tradeoffs for.
  • keyboard -- older thinkpads probably had the best laptop keyboards ever, personal preference of course.
  • trackpoint -- some people like the trackpoint 🙂
  • value -- since they are so reliable and repairable, cheaper used ones can be smart purchases.
  • culture -- I think because of all these reasons, there's now an "image" for young thinkpad users where they end up expressing that it's more about their skills and what they can do rather than how fancy their equipment looks.

if my system is useless in the future because it doesn't have enough RAM to run my target application, I would say it's lost its functionality

from a C# perspective, they don't "do" anything. They only allow you to write your own code that executes when they get called. For example, if you were to ask "what does a method do?" Well, methods don't do anything except what you define them to do

#

setters get called when you try to set the value of a property, and getters get called when you try to get the value of a property

#

what they "do" is whatever you define them to do

#

their key value is when they get invoked and they happen to pass the value as an argument when the setter is called so that you can interact with it

Brave. It's like chrome but much better in terms of privacy and usuability, as it's more customizable. Extensions: Use Vimium or Vimium C for vim bindings. OneTab is also a nice extension. Dark mode of course. Video Speed controller. Keepassxc browser for keepassxc integration.
Minimalist browsers you should try out: qutebrowser, vimb, browsh, w3m, links, lynx, elinks

# twilit anchor Alright. Thanks for the help

Im back. So chrome the browser is based on the open source chromium which is also the base of Brave. That means everything that works with chrome should work with brave, like chrome web extensions for instance. Keepassxc is a password manager. You should really get a password manager, for strong passwords is a security basic requirement. So as for the other browsers, as you don't use vim, no need to have a look at qutebrowser or vimb, as they are meant to be vim-like browsers. Browsh is a minimal browser in that it significantly diminishes bandwith usage by loading images as text (I mean it uses unicode colored characters to approximately render images). The other browsers are terminal browsers. w3m is really a pager, but it can work as a browser, getting the html for a page and paging it. Terminal browsers can be handy when sshed in a server, when your xorg server crashes or just as a minimal browser for instance. Plus I love the terminal.

Do you know of a way of exporting all the tabs in the browser as a text file? I was thinking to use something similar to the bookmarking system Luke Smith uses with a little bit of bash.

It maybe that you overfitted model on the orange data. So the blue line is always the same because it was overtrained it on specific dataset. So when you try different dataset it does not work.
If you have overfitting the following can be applied:

  • increase the amount of train data. Try various data so it generalize better.
  • train less. The simple trick is that you need to stop training when evaluation metric (e.g. double square error, precision, or whatever metric you use) stops improving over several epochs.

This is general advice, of course there are other things you can do (google how to avoid overfitting)

Hey bro, sure 🙂
My specialization at college (starting from 3rd semester) was machine learning, data science and data engineering. I also worked 2.5 years as ML/MLOps engineer + have a cloud certification in machine learning from AWS.

It depends on what you want to do but this is some general advice:

  1. For college: first, focus on the basics (bias/variance, gradient descent, optimizers etc.) and the data (Exploratory data analysis, Feature engineering). A lot of models are already pretrained nowadays -> anyone can use them by simple import. 95% of work is to process data before training, making sure there is no data leaks etc.
  2. For career: Focus on the engineering part, a lot, especially cloud stuff. How to host a model, how to deploy it, how to automate retraining. + Do projects, like side projects.

Hope this helps a bit. If you have any questions let me know!

# celest torrent Can anyone tell me the roadmap to learn ML or how they learned it?

Yes.

  1. Number one (most important): Free coursera course on ML (2013) from Andrew NG, it is also on youtube. It is basically a standartd course for basics of ML. He explains most math basics in very easy manner. This course is like hello world for ML, most people did it.

You can also take second part called Deep learning or Neural networks or something like that to understand gradient descent in neural networks.
PS: don't do any homework here in his courses, it is outdated, but basics is essential.

  1. Udemy course on python + data science. To get understanding of how to implement all of that (I recommend Jose Portila). scikit learn, Numpy, matplotlib etc. For Deep learning learn PyTorch, not Tensorflow.

  2. Build your projects (on the cloud, like AWS or Azure). You will learn the rest by doing (e.g. large Transformer models for example for generative AI, NLP etc.).
    It is essential that you learn that.

After that you are good to go for ml engineer, at least it was in my case some years ago.

celest torrent
brazen walrus
#

No problemo.
PS:
At some point you will learn deep learning. Some advice to not waste your time:
-> don't bother to learn tensorflow/keras for deep learning, always use Pytorch, it is industry standard. Most model libraries like HuggingFace are hooked on Pytorch. Tensorflow/Keras was popular once, but PyTorch is now way more popular.

flutter is cross-platform mobile development, primarily. It is also used for frontend development of websites, but very rarely.
react is one of the 3 biggest players (angular, react, vue) for frontend development.
If you meant "react native", then it is also cross-platform mobile development.

So depends what you want to do. For career in frontend development I would definitely suggest react. But if you want to build your own side project in mobile space then you can go with flutter.

# twilit anchor Will definitely install it as a VM, do you have a tutorial for that?

sure, these are some of the tutorials infos i found online and from my friend.
firstly,potatojames visit the VirtualBox website (https://www.virtualbox.org/) and download the appropriate version for your operating system. Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process.
Then, hellothere choose a Linux distribution that suits your needs. Ubuntu, Fedora, and Debian are commonly recommended for beginners.
Visit the respective distribution's website and download the ISO file for the latest stable release.
Then, Dante open VirtualBox and click on the "New" button to create a new virtual machine. Provide a name for your VM and select the type and version of the operating system (e.g., Linux, Ubuntu). Allocate the desired amount of RAM for the VM. A minimum of 2GB is recommended, but you can allocate more if your system has sufficient resources. Create a virtual hard disk or use an existing one. The recommended size for the virtual hard disk is 20-30GB to accommodate the operating system and additional software.
then youll have to configure VM SettingsYakuwu Select the newly created VM from the VirtualBox main window and click on the "Settings" button. In the "Storage" section, select the ISO file you downloaded earlier and attach it to the virtual CD/DVD drive.
In the "Display" section, increase the video memory to enhance the VM's graphical performance. Explore other settings as needed, such as network, shared folders, and USB support, to customize your VM

#

And start to install Linux on the VMbrbfood Start the VM by selecting it from the VirtualBox main window and clicking on the "Start" button.
The VM will boot from the attached ISO file, and you can proceed with the Linux installation process. Follow the installation prompts, such as selecting the installation language, disk partitioning, username, and password.
LASTLYRoar Configure the VM and Install Additional Software. Once the Linux installation is complete, you can customize the system settings, install updates, and additional software as needed. Set up networking, install development tools, and configure your preferred programming environments.
Rmb to consult the official VirtualBox documentation or online tutorials specific to your operating system if you encounter any issues during the setup process.Miks

The jumper is a small connector usually labeled "CLR_CMOS" or something similar. next, by moving the CMOS jumper from its default position (usually covering pins 1 and 2), you can reset the BIOS settings. and then leave the jumper in the new position for a few seconds and then move it back to its default position. lastly, close the computer case, reconnect the power source, and power on your computer.

A clean install of windows would do the job?

Or flashing the BIOS maybe?

deep hull
# twilit anchor A clean install of windows would do the job?

hmm i think performing a clean installation of Windows can help bypass the BIOS password. but It involves completely reinstalling Windows, which overwrites the existing operating system and its associated settings. so, remember that a clean installation erases all data on your computer, so back up important files first!! You'll need Windows installation media and a product key. Follow the instructions carefully during the installation process.

twilit anchor
#

Will do, thanks.

#

And sorry for disturbing.

deep hull
# twilit anchor Or flashing the BIOS maybe?

oohh flashing the BIOS is a potential solution to bypass the BIOS password. It involves updating the BIOS firmware with a new version provided by the manufacturer. BUTTT, it carries risks and can cause damage if not done correctly. so its better if u do ur research and follow specific instructions for your computer model, backup important data, use official firmware, and consider seeking professional help if unsure. Approach the process with caution due to potential risks involved.heckerjoms

twilit anchor
#

@deep hull researched a bit more, installing window again and flashing the BIOS WONT fix the problem

deep hull
#

hmm then i think it indicates that the password is likely stored in a different location or there may be additional security measures in place.

#

why dont u try to contact ur computer's manufacturer or a professional technician for further assistance.? bc attempting other methods or procedures without proper knowledge or expertise can lead to unintended consequences or even permanent damage to your computer.

You don't need to see the battery, you only need to access the jumper. The motherboard manual will tell you where it is.

depends on the manufacturer, Dell even has a specific "password reset jumper"

twilit anchor
#

And what should I do with it?

#

Do I just remove it and everything's done?

dapper niche
#

no, you need to connect the two pins

#

You need to connect the pins using a jumper block, you can borrow it from a different part of your motherboard if there is one, just make sure to put it in the same spot

twilit anchor
#

wtf

dapper niche

otherwise, you can connect it using something metal like a screwdriver or ballpoint pen tip

But I dont have a jumper block

dapper niche

once you connect it, probably just need to hold it for a few seconds and then it should be reset

Just to summarize

I turn off the pc

Use a jumper block for one minute

Pull the block out

And I'm good to go?

#

Yep

dapper niche
#

you can also disconnect the power supply from the motherboard as another precaution, if you feel comfortable doing that

I'll just turn the PSU off, detach the power cable

And do as you told me

does anyone here know anything about downloading all the files from your google drive? my school email is about to be deleted and i need to back it up. i tried "google takeout" but it's not like it saves the files in an accessible format lmao. it also did not give me the option to download all my google docs
sooooo, i dont really know any way besides manually downloading each important file of mine from each google platform/product 🥲

frosty sequoia
# stray pier does anyone here know anything about downloading all the files from your google ...

Yes, I can help you with that. To download all your files from Google Drive, you can follow these steps:

Go to your Google Drive by visiting drive.google.com and sign in with your school email account.

Once you're in Google Drive, select all the files and folders you want to download. You can do this by holding down the "Shift" key on your keyboard and clicking on the first file, then scrolling to the last file and clicking on it. This will select all the files in between as well. Alternatively, you can use the "Ctrl" or "Cmd" key to select individual files.

Right-click on any of the selected files, and from the context menu, choose "Download." This will initiate the download of all the selected files and folders as a zip archive.

Google Drive will start preparing the files for download, and once it's ready, a download prompt will appear. Click on "Download" to save the zip file to your computer.

Depending on the size of your files and folders, it may take some time to complete the download. Once the download is finished, you can extract the contents of the zip file by right-clicking on it and selecting "Extract All" or using a compression software like 7-Zip or WinRAR.

Please note that if you have a large number of files or if your files are quite large in size, the download process may take a while. Additionally, keep in mind that some files may have specific formats that can't be easily accessed outside of Google's applications.

depends on ur needs and preference.

Ubuntu: User-friendly, beginner-friendly, stable, extensive software availability, less customization.

Arch Linux: More advanced, highly customizable, rolling release model, requires more technical expertise, active community support.

Choose Ubuntu if you want an easy and stable experience. Choose Arch Linux if you prefer customization and have advanced technical skills.

Yes, if you gain enough experience and feel comfortable with Linux systems, you can certainly change from Ubuntu to Arch Linux.
Keep in mind that Arch Linux follows a do-it-yourself (DIY) approach, requiring manual configuration and a good understanding of the Linux system components. It provides a minimalist base installation that allows you to build your system according to your specific needs.

  1. make sure you edit the ~/.bashrc file that applies to your current user environment. You may be using a different configuration file, such as ~/.bash_profile or ~/.profile. Check these files to see if any changes have been made there and edit them accordingly.

Run the echo $PS1 command to display the current value of the PS1 environment variable. Make sure that the PS1 entry you modified is present in the ~/.bashrc file and that it is not overwritten by other variables or scripts.

Restart the terminal (QTerminal) or shell session and check again that the new name is displayed in the shell prompt.

  1. make sure that you use the syntax for PS1 correctly. Note that the part with the new name in parentheses may be surrounded by single quotes or double quotes. For example:

    ``bash
    PS1='[\u@\h MyName \W]$ '

    or

    ```bash
    PS1="[\u@\h MyName \W]\$ "
    Choose one of the two variants and make sure that you use the appropriate quotes in the ~/.bashrc file.
  2. also check other configuration files, such as /etc/bash.bashrc, to see if any global shell prompt settings have been made there that might override the value of PS1. Edit these files accordingly to display the desired name in the shell prompt.
If you still have trouble changing the name in the shell prompt, it may be helpful to provide specific information about your system and the shell you are using so that I can help you further.
  2. Book Fluent Python. The original book is about 8 years old, but a new edition came out last year I think.
Java is not low level because you don't have to manage memory yourself, there is a garbage collector that does that for you.
Also, its applications are pretty far away from low-level CPU stuff. Like nobody uses Java for robotics. It is mostly server backend code 🙂
# fallen wing hi guys, i have a question related to whether should i buy windows or mac, ill b...
Hi 🙂
Depends on what you are going to do, but if it is not game development, Mac OS is generally considered more developer friendly. It is a unix based OS, so most shell commands are the same as linux, but using mac is much more pleasant than linux.
Regarding more developer friendly experience: for example, on Windows there is no ssh utility for network connections, you have to use an external program called putty (as far as I remember). You are also stuck with Windows CMD or Powershell, which are different from UNIX systems, unless you use git-bash or something like that. Most servers are Linux (hence Unix) based, so using two different command line tools for local development and server development is an overhead.
In my experience, almost all the developers I have worked with have always chosen Mac (usually when you join a company they ask what laptop you will use, and it is usually mac or windows).
But in the end it is not that important, currently at my work I use a Windows laptop (I had no choice) and it is ok. And as already pointed out by other people, in your case it might be better to go with what your school generally uses.
hard to come up with a brief description that's accurate, but here's my attempt.
The two disciplines are almost completely unrelated. CE is very low level, detailed, mathematical, and precise. It's like building and designing a ship inside a bottle using a grain of sand at a time.
IT deals with large systems like coordinating ships passing through the panama canal or diagnosing why a ship's steering system isn't working, needs to be upgraded, or replaced. Or maybe adding a second engine system and creating a procedure to swap engines while the ship is running if one engine system needs to be turned off.
Of course, there are many, many different roles in these disciplines, so this is a vastly simplified description. I'm not familiar with darknet diaries, but a quick googling makes me believe it's more close to computer science.
#
For what it's worth, my focus is computer science.
# trim belfry im trying to fix my brothers desktop pc for him and it does not display or boot ...
If all the fans are spinning loudly, make sure your CPU is connected right to the cooling system.
If the fans are spinning normally then it's okay.
Try putting the video cable your using into the GPU card slot, it won't display anything if you have it in the motherboard.
If that doesn't work check your input/settings on the monitor.
If that doesn't work, check your operating system or boot device.
These are some possible solutions.
yeah, just focus on something that has a clean keyboard for the most part. If you want to run a virtual machine, you'll need higher specs, but if you dual boot instead, it's fine.
            choice='N';
        }
    }while (choice !='N');
    return 0;
}```
#
here is the books code
 int main()
{
float num1, num2, result;
char choice;
do {
printf("Enter your first number to multiply: ");
scanf(" %f", &num1);
printf("Enter your second number to multiply: ");
scanf(" %f", &num2);
result = num1 * num2;
num1, num2, result);
printf("Do you want to enter another pair of numbers ");
printf("to multiply (Y/N): ");
scanf(" %c", &choice);
// If the user enters a lowercase n, this if statement will
// convert it to an N
if (choice == 'n')
{
choice = 'N';
}
} while (choice != 'N');
return 0;
}```
#
its litteraly the same although mine's output is "do you want to enter another pair of numbers to multiply (Y/N):enter your first number to multiply:"
and the book's output is just "do you want to enter another pair of numbers to multiply (Y/N):"
by development process, I mean you need to write a very small snippet of code and test it
frosty sequoia
if you write everything and then test it all at once, you won't know where you went wrong
frosty sequoia
bro thx
dapper niche
at least, it'll be harder to figure out where you went wrong
frosty sequoia
but why just adding space fix the problem
dapper niche
you'll need to level up your debugging processes
that's something you can ask chatgpt about
i also mean that i could fix your code without knowing any C
that shows you that programming is more about fundamentals than language knowledge
idle dew
Ok
frosty sequoia
#
its about problem solving skill
dapper niche
beginners always ask "what language should I start with?" like it's the most important thing and they get stuck on it...but it doesn't really matter
#
I'm going off on a tangent, though 😄
idle dew
#
Lol
dapper niche
#
yea, being methodical and detail oriented is key
frosty sequoia
#
i think its a good idea to work on my debugging skill
dapper niche
#
it'll be critical in the future. writing your own code is EASY. imagine having a task in the workplace where you have 100,000 lines of code across thousands of different files and have to figure out what's causing the bug you're supposed to fix or where to add the features you need to add
#
1: you don't have the luxury of building it piece by piece and testing it in isolation.
2: you didn't write the code, so it's in a completely different style and thought pattern than how you brain works, so it's like reading a foreign language that you understand somewhat
#
writing something completely from scratch is < 1% of professional work, but it's like 99% of student work
celest torrent
#
Debugging someone's code, can become really difficult sometimes,
I guess to get rid of this, one should contribute to more open source projects 🙂
dapper niche
#
Also funny, but often mentioned is when people read their old code, they don't realize who wrote it and start complaining about how bad the code is and how hard it is to understand. They realize later that they wrote it, haha
Hm, but it does.
Picking a popular language that you can use for an idea or a career is better than picking something like the Lisp or Perl languages.
This is an exaggerated example, I know.
But relearning takes time. Even within the same ecosystem.
Scala is also a JVM with many similarities to Java, but it is very different from imperative Java. It takes at least a year to write good Scala code with pattern matching etc.
I agree with you though that this is not the most important question. I think it's better to ask what do I want to do instead of what kind of language do I want to use 🙂
# brazen walrus Hm, but it does. Picking a popular language that you can use for an idea or a ca...
yes, but people who are asking aren't asking between popular and unpopular languages. Plus, learning one language first doesn't lock them from others. Their questions are often about the order of languages that they learn. Learning Lisp is actually really useful so you can read and work with SICP. Lisp is very fast to learn the basic syntax completely. So yes, what languageS you know when you're about to enter the workforce is important, but the language that you start off with...not so much, as long as you don't choose something ridiculous, which I don't see anyone doing. But, I do see a ton of people in analysis paralysis while looking at their choices and end up not starting with anything.
