Hello, I am trying to build a simple API with a database using python. I'm using FastAPI, SQLAlchemy as an ORM and SQLite as a database.
I am struggling to understand how to link the database to the API and I don't really understand the directory structure or what each file is supposed to do.
Could someone explain to me what each of the files database.py, models.py, schemas.py and crud.py are supposed to do?

#

I am especially lost on the schemas.py .Is this file just for the automatic documentation?

#

Also, my directory structure looks like this:
sqlapp
|-- _init_.py
|-- crud.py
|-- database.py
|-- main.py
|-- models.py
|-- schemas.py

But, in the main.py file, when i write from . import crud , it gives me a error ImportError: attempted relative import with no known parent package. I'm quite puzzled at this since i simply followed the FastAPI tutorial in the documentation

Does anyone know if the cryptographic method of "salting", or the randomization of the hashing process, can be used to defend against rainbow tables?

hot fable
idle dew
# obtuse coral Does anyone know if the cryptographic method of "salting", or the randomization ...

Well, to my knowledge (which is limited i'm just a 1st year student), the goal of salting is to defend against rainbow tables. raindbow tables are precomputed hashes, so if you add a random salt makes them totally useless as now you can't just use the precomputed hash of password, as the final hash of password is the hash of password + salt which is completely different. The attacker would have to brute force the hash of password+salt. So it also adds security in that if the attacker could only really get the password of one target person except if he had huge amounts of computational power, enough to brute force multiple long passwords (the passwords are longer because we add the salt).

  1. degrees are expensive and matter less over time for UX designers, instead an active portfolio showing that you understand key design principles will take you further

I guess the plan is to create a portfolio anyway, up until the hypothetical start of the degree in September, or just to start applying in the final quarter of the year.

#

And you're 100% right based on what I've seen on the module overview, it's all skills you could acquire through self-study, and I've been doing that.

hardy tree
# tall swan 1. degrees are expensive and matter less over time for UX designers, instead an ...

Thank you for your response. These are all incredibly important, and valid points. I'm curious what you think about doing both? I've been self-studying how to draw since 2019, and it hasn't worked out for me. I've gotten a lot better, but I'm not hireable. Losing both time to self study and a degree are pretty daunting, but I guess after years of doing it alone, the structure seems appealing, with a qualification and a solid portfolio to show for it...

tight ocean
# hardy tree They list being enrolled in a MA or BA as a basic requirement, on top of a solid...

sometimes those basic requirements can be overlooked if you have experience/projects to show for it. obviously having qualifications is important to a certain degree, but I think what's more important in the field of UI/UX is your actual work, as opposed to a college degree. those are also for internships - it might take a long time, but if you have a strong enough portfolio, it might be better to just dive straight into jobs. internships might get you some experience in how the field works, but i don't think they're absolutely necessary for an eventual job.

if what you seek is a college degree, specifically because you enjoy the material or the subject itself, then that's a different matter. for the career itself, I don't think its particularly necessary (I have the same stance on CS degrees - a degree in CS is nice, but i've known people with business, economics, and chemistry degrees get into SWE jobs, so I don't see it as an absolute requirement for a portion of the industry).

#

I probably should've asked earlier, but do you already have a degree in something?

tall swan
# hardy tree Thank you for your response. These are all incredibly important, and valid point...

Self-studying how to draw and not getting opportunities for what kind of jobs? Your approach may just be completely unaligned with what employers are looking for.

UX designers could be looking for someone with design skills using software like Adobe Xd, figma, Sketch, etc. and a portfolio to prove that the can prototype mock-ups and iterations. Basically I can’t be applying for game dev jobs now if I spent my time drawing instead of learning how to use Unity, Blender, coding in C#; i need to be actually making games and putting them up on itch.io to show my potential employers that hey I’m actually already doing what a game dev does.

I strongly urge you, before you commit to a degree, to take a step back and observe your journey for the past 3 years. The uni will NOT teach you how to use UX software nor more importantly, the mindset to be one, all it will give you is a piece of paper that matters less over time. The portfolio is the most valuable artifact to invest into and you do not need a degree for this to start. If you think enrolling in a university will give you structure to work on your portfolio, then I mean this in the nicest way: you’re doing it all wrong.

I've reached 40+ wpm on azerty layout, but I don't really use àéè ect... much
so my question is, should I learn the qwerty layout ?

calm ridge
#

@eager olive good question, do you already know a little bit of qwerty, or nothing at all?

#

and will you be swapping computers often?
and use vim?

#

yes to any of these = qwerty is worth learning, indeed :)

#

otherwise
nah, learn colemake :D you get the same keyboard shortcuts, but more comfort

eager olive
#

Well yeah I do use vim from time to time (with yakuake my beloved)
the thing is, google's windows application for japanese (forgot what it's called) uses qwerty

#

meanwhile here in france we use azerty which feels incredibly niche

calm ridge
#

Ah, what was it called xD I think it's mozc

#

There should be a way to use your IME without changing your layout, if it is already doing that

Because, all it does is translate English characters to hiragana, and then you can cycle through kanji options

#

are you on windows or Linux?

eager olive
#

currently on linux

#

wait imma check the AUR

calm ridge
#

Are you on Gnome? you can probably just set JP through the keyboard settings
You can't try others because an IMF is built into Gnome already

At least, from what I remember
I wasn't able to get fcitx and mozc working on Gnome, but I was on Plasma

eager olive
#

yeahhh I'm on plasma too

calm ridge
#

couldn't find anything about using a different layout + fcitx
seems to default to default qwerty every time

#

hmmm, in this case, learn qwerty :) i think you can get it up to 70wpm
though, just make sure to take breaks and have proper form to prevent injury, and you'll be fine

also, i didn't consider this before
but if azerty is similar to qwerty, then it should be easier to pick up qwerty as a result

#

that's just the main disadvantage ppl hate when switching layouts. It disrupts workflows .w.

eager olive
#

well, there's this old keyboard I stuck the qwerty layout on top of
guess that's the plan then LUL
people say it's scandalous, and I totally agree, but it's handy

calm ridge
#

haha yehhhh xD

eager olive
#

this could become a no brainer tbh

calm ridge
eager olive
#

for now yes

calm ridge
#

Ohhhhh it iss I checked xd

#

Niiiiiiiice

#

See, your performance translated from azerty nicely 😄

eager olive
#

well to be fair. most of the change is q a z w m ; switching places

calm ridge
#

Ahh

#

Well, I think mostly m and a are used most anyways

eager olive
#

Welp, all it'll take is 30min of training on each layout per day

The real challenge will be colemak LUL

calm ridge
#

good luck ^^
colemak is neat, it was what I tried to learn in the past

eager olive
#

have you succeeded ?

calm ridge
# eager olive have you succeeded ?

made it half-way then dropped it a while ago ^^;
reason being that I didn't really have much of a great reason to dedicate time into it tbh

#

I tried to force myself to learn it by going full colemak too, but my measily 20wpm slowed me down so much, haha

#

I don't like qwerty and how my fingers look like a spider with broken legs when typing or smth xD it's uncomfy, but it works

@wanton briar I would say you should definitely take a CompTIA course before anything else since it is industry standard and covers the fundamentals in IT. (A+ -> Network+ -> Security+ -> PenTest+, I'd start at Network+ before Security+)

#

Cengage's curriculum, for example, has labs built in so you can get practice on virtual machines.

#

From what I've done so far in my class, it isn't necesarrily ethical hacking but it gives you a lot to study and to learn about cybersecurity. It is almost overwhelming if I'm being honest.

I highly recommend Cybersecurity out of all the options in IT outside of Computer Science / SWE because there will be more high paying and available jobs in cybersecurity no matter where you go. I can't say since I don't own both.

anything with a SSD and 8GB or more ram and 1080p display and Ryzen or better iGPU is good in my opinion. just make sure integrated graphics or dedicated graphics is decent if you plan on doing game development or machine learning, and make sure RAM is 16GB if you plan on doing Mobile App development or anything involving Virtual Machine.

#

you can really do programming on any device since most tools are cross-platform. I think it comes down to personal preference and depends on the target platform you plan on developing for.

Looking to build OpenSSL to use in projects with Visual Studio 2019? Well, you can do it for free with the Community edition. It's completely free, it just takes time to compile. You can choose to use .dll files (Shared), or you can integrate into your program directly by using Static builds. ((Timestamps below))

ur welcome man

fringe jetty
#

Any Computer Science or SWE guys... I need help. College OR Technical Trade School OR Bootcamp? Which will get me a job faster.

scenic oriole
#

if u wanna grind ur ass off and acc make it go the bootcamp way

#

ik friends who have gotten jobs within 6 months from 0 epxirience

#

but they had no life those 6 months

fringe jetty
#

I wanted to go to the trade school because of a bachelor's degree and internship possibility, but bootcamp makes sense if my family wants me to learn remotely only.

scenic oriole
#

if ur in highschool and wanna go into software, just go into a field related

fringe jetty
#

I have 3 years of programming in python and C++ and java. Only know the fundamentals of each but have made game projects.

scenic oriole
#

not too sure what trade school, never really heard of that

fringe jetty
#

I don't really qualify for college because I suck at math and english and hate extra electives and homework. Only homework I enjoyed was programming assignments.

scenic oriole
#

but if u already have epxirience and dont wanna waste 4 years then go bootcamp, the thing is cs doesnt help u get a job xd. It just gives u basic fundamentals (important stuff is dsa, databases, concurrency, operating systems, and compilers are prob the only important courses ive taken)

fringe jetty
#

I've been coding on and off in python since I was 12. Only have been "programming" in the sense of actually understanding things in the past three years after I got language textbooks.

#

C++ I enjoy but there is no jobs in it in my area. (I want to use it for games specifically)

scenic oriole
#

like bachelors is a lot to do right its 4-5 years of ur life, if u wanna get a job fast + u already have expirience, maybe i would suggest bootcamp

scenic oriole
#

also look into internships maybe if u have never had a job within the software field

fringe jetty
#

also a side note is that I've already gone to a trade school during highschool where I studied the CompTIA A+ and Network+ and Security+ curriculums and done IT labs.

scenic oriole
#

u can always transition but its nicer to have some eprieincere.

#

is trade school like college?

fringe jetty
#

its a technical career training school. One of the classes there that I attend is for general IT skills and certifications. I'd imagine college is much more serious and harder. When it comes to programming I am only self taught. Programming is what I am most passionate about.

scenic oriole
#

Also I would suggest seeing what particulair field of programming you would want to go into, whether thats web development, low level hard ware stuff, or machine learning. Each really have their own kinda skill set and if you know exactly want you want to do, it will also be easier to narrow down what path u want to take.

#

Like i said, if you wanna grind a bit harder, go into a bootcamp, consider the training school, or some online course, if u for some reason want to udnerstand more theoretical computer science concepts, go into a bachelors program

fringe jetty
#

I want to become a entrepreneurial game dev so C++ is fun but I think a web development or cybersecurity job is the most likely option professionally speaking.

scenic oriole
#

Not too sure about cyber security as, but ik for game dev, you will def need to learn everything on ur own (aside from basic object oriented programming skills which will be taught in school, which you can def learn on your own), all the game engines like Unity or unreal engine you will def need to learn yourself. If this is what you want to do, just know you will learn not much from a bachelors (in gaming aspect).

fringe jetty
#

yeah but game dev isn't really the best choice considering my geography

#

maybe if I lived on the west coast.

#

I don't want to deal with low-pay and crunch time

#

its more of a hobby

scenic oriole
#

The thing is jobs are getting really remote, if you looked on linkedin half their listings are all remote

fringe jetty
#

okay

scenic oriole
#

I got a job in austin tx and im in toronto haha

fringe jetty
#

wow opposite side of the continent lol

scenic oriole
#

eh kinda lol but yea def not close

#

and i just work remotely

fringe jetty
#

damn I looked it up and typescript devs are making 6 figures

scenic oriole
#

you'd be suprised how well jobs in software pay, my friend is an intern making 6 figures already

fringe jetty
#

I'd have to move to get a job which sucks

#

are interviews being done remotely?

scenic oriole
#

everything is my friend

fringe jetty
#

thats the main thing I'm concerned about

#

I live out in the country and everyone else has a job outside of tech.

scenic oriole
#

you dont have to step out of ur house to find a job

#

Oh but idk about certain restrictions

#

like about visas and stuff if thats what your wondering

#

Remotley you can often work in like the states, but depending on where you are the rules migth be different

#

I work from canada in a company within the states and I dont need a visa

fringe jetty
#

I'm only looking for jobs in the states close to me if not 100 miles within my own state

scenic oriole
#

If you live in the states, and are a citizen, should be 0 issue working at any company in any state

fringe jetty
#

what about interviews?

scenic oriole
#

there might be hiccups with timezone issues

#

but again, usually they will understand and adjust for instacne I start work here at 12 and get off at 8, bc the timezones are fucked up

#

interviews also just online

#

lol

fringe jetty
#

I live on east coast so time zone shouldn't be a problem because I wake up earlier

scenic oriole
#

yea so all east coast positions would work

#

even if not u would just need to adjust your working times

#

as long as its not too drastic of a change

#

ie in korea or smth

fringe jetty
#

there is also a load of cybersecurity jobs but I think its harder to get into even with the beginner certs

#

I just don't know how realistic it is to make that much money in an entry level position

#

and that is something where they'd prefer you to work locally

scenic oriole
#

there are places where they still ask you to come into office or have some hybrid system, true

#

i mean its the survival of the fittest, if you dont grind and work hard other people will just eat u

#

how it is man

fringe jetty
#

hopefully I can start going to the gym. I need to lose weight so going for a run every day would keep me more motivated to work hard

scenic oriole
#

if thats what gets u working hard then ye go for it

#

just know its hella competetive

#

and ur gonna need to properly grind if u wanna make it

fringe jetty
#

do you watch Melkey's livestreams?

scenic oriole
#

nope

#

dont know who that is

fringe jetty
#

he is a canadian twitch engineer who covers job advice in SWE.

#

he is always giving a lot of advice on how to be competetive

scenic oriole
#

ye def lots of resources and people to listen to for sure

#

but its always a little subjective, if you try something and it doesnt work, change and adapt

fringe jetty
#

anyways thanks for the advice.

Can anyone suggest me some programs of nested for loop to practice (JAVA LANGUAGE)?
Please ping meHappyjoms

fringe jetty
#

@plain rivet I thought you wanted a DM not a ping.

#

here are some for loop problems I recommend

For loop problems to do:
- Fibonacci Sequence
- Prime Numbers
- Draw a Line in Terminal (implement line-drawing algorithm)
- Draw a Diamond shape in Terminal
- Draw a Triangle shape in Terminal (4 types of triangles, don't do just one.)
- Doing something with user/entity/object data by iterating over two arrays of different databases.

drawing shapes with for loops and algorithms is really hard to do without cheating. I had to do it in my Java class.
I notice when I'm doing side projects that I tend to use nested for loops a lot when checking objects data for multiple conditions against two objects.

plain rivet
#

@fringe jetty Thank you heygirlnoback

fringe jetty
#

graphics programming involves nested for loops if you want to iterate over a two dimensional vector of screen width and screen height but you can also just do if (i % width = 0) without the nested for loops if its just a buffer with a size of that width * height.

Should you switch to linux(arch or some flavor of ubuntu) as a highschooler? Or a even better question: Is it worth your time and productivity?

#

Rule of thumb
If you don't have a reason to begin with, there's no need to switch
Linux is a learning curve, and it depends if you want to learn to use it or not

#

You will likely face technical issues, and you wouldn't have the know how to troubleshoot your problems, and a lot of the times you'd be looking up how to, which is a time sink in an of itself

calm swan
#

I have used it on a Vm extensively and i know my ways around unix commands but i haven't used it ever as my PC's main OS. So the learning curve will be much shorter but thank you still for a great answer

calm ridge
#

Oh
Then for the most part, it will be fine
As long as you know how to troubleshoot

I suggest dual-booting :) running both windows and linux

#

Try EndeavourOS, pick a DE you like, and while you're installing it, click "install alongside windows", or smth, and once it's done, you will have the option to either boot into Linux or Windows.

#

And in the future, once you feel like you've gotten comfy daily driving it, you can simply delete the partition.

# calm swan Should you switch to linux(arch or some flavor of ubuntu) as a highschooler? Or ...

The question is not if it's worth your time to switch. The question is if it's worth your time NOT to switch. If you are going to spend any amount of time working on a computer then your computer setup should be customized and optimized to your needs. There's no better way of doing that than installing Linux.
This video will explain my point way better than I can. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xl56IJGKwY

highschooler here too
I first used linux three years ago (to try get a really old laptop working for a project where i chose ewaste as the topic)
then i intsalled linux mint on my main laptop worth the switch
4 months ago i bought a laptop from system76 (they make linux laptops with their inhouse os called popos), works pretty well
and now i have been trying to get into arch
i would say linux is definetely better in terms of productivity and stuff as on a windows or mac its fairly easy to get distracted
i didnt have a reason to switch but now i dont want to switch back 🙂

As a high school freshman, I think it depends on your workflow and what you do with your computer. If you do coding or plan on coding, using linux will help you get used to the command line which most programmers use. Also with linux you can customize your system to do pretty much what you want, so you can mold it around how you use your computer/how you work. I recommend trying out different linux distros to see what you like the most, and maybe do a dualboot for a period of time.

Problem Statement:
A program will receive inputs from the user and save them in a double type array, salary [ ]. The minimum data to be saved is ten (10).
This program also allows user to retrieve the saved data. User will enter the keyword (salary) to be searched in the array.
The program then will display the following information:
-an appropriate message if the element is found
-the index of found element
-an appropriate message if the element is not found.

# idle dew hello world, i want to learn bash so as to become a power user in linux and what...

The "real way" of doing this is the man page man bash or just to man any command like export.
To be honest though not many has the time or the patience to read a full man page. The best way of learning, in my honest opinion, is to just use it. Learn the basics like the important env variables (PATH) and the basic commands like ls, cd (if you consider it a command), mv, cp, find, grep, less, more, etc. The hard part is to push threw and to not get tempted by an easier to learn GUI app. An exercice that got my hooked up on the shell is to compile the software i needed from source instead of installing it using the package manager. This way i leaned, make, cmake, mv, cp, less, pipes, jobs, gcc, g++ and many more.

On a final note try and learn stuff that is POSIX it will avoid many problems down the line if you start scripting and porting stuff to other OS or just other machines

hope this helps and best of luck 😄

As constructive criticism. Just don't use black arch unless you are familiar with standard arch and with Kali. (Im speaking from experience here) also this is not the place to ask for help with pen testing). Also with your problem try unmounted the part and perhaps use Gparted if you are new 🙂 cli can be aqward. 🙂 (Good luck).

Hope you fix it

python, pygame. how do I pass the value (what's in parentheses) to Ship() (where the arrow is) so that links work in another class (where the arrows are). I tried Ship(screen), but then it gave NameError: name 'screen' is not defined. I'm trying to get the screen size (access to the screen object of the Alien Invasion class) to assign it to the Ship class attribute and continue working with it

hey guys

#

im so much worried about AI in my future job role that i can even stop to study right now

#

Im looking for UI/UX design, a friend, who is a programmer( a fucking good one) and other sources of info told me that is going to end in a near future

#

Does someone is passing throug it ? I need talk and understand better this problem, this is ledding me crazy

#

Because im finishing my online college and well, that role was my plan till now hahahahah

still ice
glad wyvern
#

if u think ai can replace you then maybe you are really noob at it

#

i would say this is the time you should leverage it and use it to produce maximum output

misty ibex
#

ty man, i would love it.
I'm already have some ideia of how AI works because i tried some myself and i did some research about it too My problem is more about the UI/UX role of design, what it looks like it's going to be more affected than other design roles.

#

And it was the exactly role that i want to enter

#

yes, but if they get better than now i think that is going to be a lot of lay offs in some areas and of course some new jobs getting created

#

That is why i want to understand better it and dont start whit a bunch of software in determined area that have literally none future

Im like a guy who wants to be a junior dev and wants to know what progamming language are on the market

Question for Objects and Inheritance in Java. Can I extend an object with subclass material after already initiating it with the base class class material?

#

in basic logic the subclass contains everything the base class does, but wouldn't that change the Object's type or something?

however is not so common in education and is becoming more popular in companies but I agree that cpp is a good language to transition from however

wm are meant to be barebones because you can bring whatever tools you like

Seconding what voidz said, that for a window manager, not to be confused with a full-fledged desktop environment, i3-wm is great for starters because of its easy config file and good documentation + the included bar

And yeh, window managers are so overrated 😅 I switched from Gnome to i3-wm for a while, and then went back to Gnome, lmao

heyo, I was looking into making a simple 2d platformer game in c++, I know the basics in it, and I really think a project like this is going to boost my knowledge, problem is I have no idea how to make the game panel, or how to implement images, where do I put the functions, etc. I'm also on linux so preferably a multi-platform tool? thank you in advance

Hello guys. I would like your thoughts on this. What do you think about this information being collected (esp, the keystroke patterns one)?:
"Technical Information we collect about you. We collect certain information about the device you use to access the Platform, such as your IP address, user agent, mobile carrier, time zone settings, identifiers for advertising purposes, model of your device, the device system, network type, device IDs, your screen resolution and operating system, app and file names and types, keystroke patterns or rhythms, battery state, audio settings and connected audio devices. Where you log-in from multiple devices, we will be able to use your profile information to identify your activity across devices. We may also associate you with information collected from devices other than those you use to log-in to the Platform." - https://www.tiktok.com/legal/page/row/privacy-policy/en
