ty for the pointers! the thing about the pen should be fine, if it is the case at all i guess
I plan on acquiring more hardware for programming on different operating systems or architectures, for example, so I can write cross-platform programs.
recommend an ereader under 50 bucks
kindle
i got mine for like $40 i think on sale on amazon.com
I use a hisense touch now as my preferred ereader, but I used the kindle for a very long time and had no complaints honestly. i had a pop socket on it and took it everywhere with me
Boox note air 2 imo
I use an iPad 9 w/ Apple Pencil and it’s great ftr
Such a good deal
haha I alr have an iPad, but wanted to get an e-reader tablet to remove the apple bloat and use for longer periods
I can't study on my iPad for more than a few hrs because of eye strain, so ideally I'd like to use it for digital art + the occasional note-taking and wanted to try out an eink tablet if possible
That's what I was eyeing, I think I might pull the trigger
My undergrad is finishing in a few weeks and then I'm gonna be job hunting and starting my self-study for my graduate degree, so I wanna optimize my study routines within a few weeks post-grad
You could also get a boox note X like James but he got it through taobao so I’d imagine it would take a bit to show up
It’s cheaper(?) but you’d also have to pay shipping
Hello, i'm trying to build my study youtube channel and i want to find a fine and cheap microphone that can help me filming 'study with me with no music' . Do you have any recommends? Or any way for sound control?
boox tab ultra
but you gotta wait for a sale or something
cuz i think last time i check it was around 450$
Blue Snowball is still a go to recommendation for cheap but good.. ive had mine for 6 years now and its still perfectly fine for universal use
(Blue yeti would be an upgrade but obviously also more expensive, depends on ur budget)
I don't know if you've got the mod's approval to post that, but I honestly doubt it (rule #2)

I thought the same thing, it's a violation of rule #2
yup, already opened a ticket
anyone here good with python?
could you look at something for me? I have a program that won't run because variables aren't defined, but I am not sure where I went wrong
welp
that didnt work lol
you probably have a typo
i looked and couldn't find anything
I can help if you DM me.
anyone here good with f-strings in python?
whats up
f string looks like this:
variableName = "name"
print(f"variable's value is: {variableName}")
will output:
variable's name is name.
i feel like its a p like
straight foward concept, so theres not much to explain other then whats already out there
Hello, I am trying to build a simple API with a database using python. I'm using FastAPI, SQLAlchemy as an ORM and SQLite as a database.
I am struggling to understand how to link the database to the API and I don't really understand the directory structure or what each file is supposed to do.
Could someone explain to me what each of the files database.py, models.py, schemas.py and crud.py are supposed to do?
I am especially lost on the schemas.py .Is this file just for the automatic documentation?
Also, my directory structure looks like this:
sqlapp
|-- _init_.py
|-- crud.py
|-- database.py
|-- main.py
|-- models.py
|-- schemas.py
But, in the main.py file, when i write from . import crud , it gives me a error ImportError: attempted relative import with no known parent package. I'm quite puzzled at this since i simply followed the FastAPI tutorial in the documentation
Don't really know where else to ask this but im looking to get a dumb phone because of jvscholz video. Im trying to cut back on my screentime on stuff like instagram and tiktok. Im looking for something that i can still listen to music and have Bluetooth with. any suggestions?
i think Nokia 2760 flip phone and Nokia 225 4G r pretty good options, u can listen to music n even use its bluetooth, they both have really nice battery life n stuff. ig the first one is around 20$? pretty cheap too. second one is kinda more expensive like around 47$ i think.
tsym!
ofc!
try doing import crud or from crud import *
Thanks that works.
Anyone knows where I can look for a vim setup similar to James?
if you don't want to go through the trouble of configuring everything yourself spacevim works well and is quite customizable
tbh idk what his setup looks like but i'm sure you can customize it to your liking :)
james uses vanilla vim
Does anyone know if the cryptographic method of "salting", or the randomization of the hashing process, can be used to defend against rainbow tables?
yeah salting adds extra data to change the hash so a rainbow table won't work
Thanks! 🙏
Well, to my knowledge (which is limited i'm just a 1st year student), the goal of salting is to defend against rainbow tables. raindbow tables are precomputed hashes, so if you add a random salt makes them totally useless as now you can't just use the precomputed hash of password, as the final hash of password is the hash of password + salt which is completely different. The attacker would have to brute force the hash of password+salt. So it also adds security in that if the attacker could only really get the password of one target person except if he had huge amounts of computational power, enough to brute force multiple long passwords (the passwords are longer because we add the salt).
how to remove autofill of links in chrome, need to stop easy access to socials and to reduce time waste
POV: You used google
- Click the Chrome menu icon. (Three dots at top right of screen.)
- Click on Settings.
- In the "Autofill" section, expand the area for which you wish to disable Autofill.
- Toggle the setting OFF if it is on. The system will automatically save your settings.
I’m 25 and considering going back to university to get a undergrad degree in User-Experience Design.
Is this not the channel to ask for more broad advice?
anyone know the model of jimmy's note tablet?
dont 😂
idk where else to ask this but does anyone know how to access to a virtual phone number for free? I'm trying to make an apple id w it cause phone numbers in my country r not registered in apple but whenever i use the ones on " free numbers for sms" websites it keeps saying " this number has been used too much"
quackr?
are you planning to keep the phone number
there are already available numbers up there
nope
this was its only option tho + rent a number
just dmed you, i dont want to post links here
aight
Anyone got a good to-do list app recommendation?
Notion/ Pomofocus
Why?
- degrees are expensive and matter less over time for UX designers, instead an active portfolio showing that you understand key design principles will take you further
- you don’t need a degree to step foot into ui/ux work, portfolio matters more
- spend your time and energy on building an impressive portfolio instead
Boox Note X
Only available in China
todoist
i agree w/ all of this, and all my friends in UX design legit told me that most of their degree was design fundamentals, human-computer interaction courses, and a few coding classes - all of which you can probably find for free online while you focus on building a portfolio
My main concern comes from what a lot of the big internships from the larger tech companies ask for in London.
They list being enrolled in a MA or BA as a basic requirement, on top of a solid UX Portfolio.
I guess the plan is to create a portfolio anyway, up until the hypothetical start of the degree in September, or just to start applying in the final quarter of the year.
And you're 100% right based on what I've seen on the module overview, it's all skills you could acquire through self-study, and I've been doing that.
Thank you for your response. These are all incredibly important, and valid points. I'm curious what you think about doing both? I've been self-studying how to draw since 2019, and it hasn't worked out for me. I've gotten a lot better, but I'm not hireable. Losing both time to self study and a degree are pretty daunting, but I guess after years of doing it alone, the structure seems appealing, with a qualification and a solid portfolio to show for it...
three years later lmao
goddamn that's a long time
art as a career is hardcore 😭
sometimes those basic requirements can be overlooked if you have experience/projects to show for it. obviously having qualifications is important to a certain degree, but I think what's more important in the field of UI/UX is your actual work, as opposed to a college degree. those are also for internships - it might take a long time, but if you have a strong enough portfolio, it might be better to just dive straight into jobs. internships might get you some experience in how the field works, but i don't think they're absolutely necessary for an eventual job.
if what you seek is a college degree, specifically because you enjoy the material or the subject itself, then that's a different matter. for the career itself, I don't think its particularly necessary (I have the same stance on CS degrees - a degree in CS is nice, but i've known people with business, economics, and chemistry degrees get into SWE jobs, so I don't see it as an absolute requirement for a portion of the industry).
I probably should've asked earlier, but do you already have a degree in something?
Self-studying how to draw and not getting opportunities for what kind of jobs? Your approach may just be completely unaligned with what employers are looking for.
UX designers could be looking for someone with design skills using software like Adobe Xd, figma, Sketch, etc. and a portfolio to prove that the can prototype mock-ups and iterations. Basically I can’t be applying for game dev jobs now if I spent my time drawing instead of learning how to use Unity, Blender, coding in C#; i need to be actually making games and putting them up on itch.io to show my potential employers that hey I’m actually already doing what a game dev does.
I strongly urge you, before you commit to a degree, to take a step back and observe your journey for the past 3 years. The uni will NOT teach you how to use UX software nor more importantly, the mindset to be one, all it will give you is a piece of paper that matters less over time. The portfolio is the most valuable artifact to invest into and you do not need a degree for this to start. If you think enrolling in a university will give you structure to work on your portfolio, then I mean this in the nicest way: you’re doing it all wrong.
I second this. My boss hired a teammate few months ago whose previous job was on a farm, but her GitHub contributions chart was literally green af with contributions to open source projects over 7 months
how to download forest for pc
I believe on pc you can only get the chrome extension, but you could try downloading an android emulator like BlueStacks and downloading it through there
thnx its working
does anyone know what this symbol represents ??
looks like a switch
it's a withdrawable circuit breaker with magneto thermal relay
im sorry you probs get this question constantly, but how does james get that code that he has on his computer with his schedule and todo list, has he released?
where up
Anyone have any experience with a dumb phone? I've been trying to make my phone as simple as possible, but I'm considering making the jump to a simpler device

Does anyone know if you can use super glue on strain guages??
I need help ASAP; I was going to use hot glue, but felt like it might mess with the temperature too much
I just don't know if super glue is flexible enough ig??? And these gauges are a little expensive, so I don't want to really try and experiment with it rn
wait
nvm
looked it up on google, first result, ig I didn't something that specific would come up
Hey, i search a small E-Ink Reader that could run Instagram, is something out there? Thank you.
what do IT auditors do?
and why should they be part of the overall audit team when performing the annual financial audit of a client?
how do y'all think a i7 6700k will put up if i use for touch designer and resolume
get a small sized phone make it black and white
can someone tell me what is a thinkpad since i searched and all i can see is just a pc is there anything different
a laptop line that used to be made by ibm which is now made by lenovo
is there any difference between it and a regular pc ?
it's more aimed towards corporate buyers and not for regular customers so they are built very reliable and good build quality with pretty much the best keyboards
and the older thinkpads are like a niche thing
thank you for the information
np!
I've reached 40+ wpm on azerty layout, but I don't really use àéè ect... much
so my question is, should I learn the qwerty layout ?
@eager olive good question, do you already know a little bit of qwerty, or nothing at all?
and will you be swapping computers often?
and use vim?
yes to any of these = qwerty is worth learning, indeed :)
otherwise
nah, learn colemake :D you get the same keyboard shortcuts, but more comfort
Well yeah I do use vim from time to time (with yakuake my beloved)
the thing is, google's windows application for japanese (forgot what it's called) uses qwerty
meanwhile here in france we use azerty which feels incredibly niche
Ah, what was it called xD I think it's mozc
There should be a way to use your IME without changing your layout, if it is already doing that
Because, all it does is translate English characters to hiragana, and then you can cycle through kanji options
are you on windows or Linux?
Are you on Gnome? you can probably just set JP through the keyboard settings
You can't try others because an IMF is built into Gnome already
At least, from what I remember
I wasn't able to get fcitx and mozc working on Gnome, but I was on Plasma
yeahhh I'm on plasma too
couldn't find anything about using a different layout + fcitx
seems to default to default qwerty every time
hmmm, in this case, learn qwerty :) i think you can get it up to 70wpm
though, just make sure to take breaks and have proper form to prevent injury, and you'll be fine
also, i didn't consider this before
but if azerty is similar to qwerty, then it should be easier to pick up qwerty as a result
that's just the main disadvantage ppl hate when switching layouts. It disrupts workflows .w.
well, there's this old keyboard I stuck the qwerty layout on top of
guess that's the plan then
people say it's scandalous, and I totally agree, but it's handy
haha yehhhh xD
this could become a no brainer tbh
Is this your qwerty performance?
for now yes
Ohhhhh it iss I checked xd
Niiiiiiiice
See, your performance translated from azerty nicely 😄
well to be fair. most of the change is q a z w m ; switching places
Welp, all it'll take is 30min of training on each layout per day
The real challenge will be colemak
Ohh
So you will know 3 layouts in total?
good luck ^^
colemak is neat, it was what I tried to learn in the past
have you succeeded ?
made it half-way then dropped it a while ago ^^;
reason being that I didn't really have much of a great reason to dedicate time into it tbh
I tried to force myself to learn it by going full colemak too, but my measily 20wpm slowed me down so much, haha
I don't like qwerty and how my fingers look like a spider with broken legs when typing or smth xD it's uncomfy, but it works
I mean, yeah, forcing yourself too learn something sucks
except when it's useful and you know it's gonna pay off later
what do you normally use ?
I think it's QWERTZ in Germany ?
not sure
100% but I'm also guilty
because I picked learning JP, so I can spend thousands of hours learning something to read untranslated books/shows, instead of translated ones XD lmao
good ol' QWERTY
reading them good ol' untranslated re:zero wn and the likes
damn, learning two layouts is confusing 💀
hey, how do i turn off the sound that appears whenever someone joins or leaves the chat
thanks in advance
go to settings, then under app settings find notifications. then there should be a heading called sounds and you can choose to mute all notification sounds or choose certain ones to mute for example leave / join call or ping

anyone know any good guides / informational videos on software defined radio?
If anyone is good at ethical hacking, what should i learn first? Are there any good sources/courses for what i should be learning first? Thanks a lot :))
@wanton briar I would say you should definitely take a CompTIA course before anything else since it is industry standard and covers the fundamentals in IT. (A+ -> Network+ -> Security+ -> PenTest+, I'd start at Network+ before Security+)
Cengage's curriculum, for example, has labs built in so you can get practice on virtual machines.
From what I've done so far in my class, it isn't necesarrily ethical hacking but it gives you a lot to study and to learn about cybersecurity. It is almost overwhelming if I'm being honest.
I recommend watching this video course as well for more on hacking: https://youtu.be/fNzpcB7ODxQ
Full Course: https://academy.tcm-sec.com/p/practical-ethical-hacking-the-complete-course
All Course Resources/Links: https://github.com/Gr1mmie/Practical-Ethical-Hacking-Resources
A shout out to all those involved with helping out on this course:
Alek - Creating "Academy", "Dev", and "Black Pearl" Capstone machines and a Discord Admin.
Dewalt ...
Here are some websites that train you with practical, hands-on skills:
HackTheBox: https://www.hackthebox.com/
OverTheWire: https://overthewire.org/wargames/
HackTheBox is probably the closest you can get to actual ethical hacking.
Thank You so Much :)
Ill definetley look into these
thanks bro
research trade schools around you that specialize in Networking or Cybersecurity
programming and CS also help for that career
while I'm currently on the career path of various IT fields thanks to the trade school class I attend, I would rather have a web development or game development job.
that makes sense, cybersecurity definetley has a lot of cons
Security+ Certification is definitely something to aim for. Know that it will take a lot of time to do all the assignments and study for each quiz.
ok! btw, are threre any free CompTIA courses
there is professor messer's video series on YouTube
got it thanks!
iirc the actual good courses and study resources you have to pay for but its worth it. I recommend Cengage since its what I've done the past year. Out of all the different services we've used in my class I like them the most.
that makes sense. ill check that out
thanks for your time :)
I highly recommend Cybersecurity out of all the options in IT outside of Computer Science / SWE because there will be more high paying and available jobs in cybersecurity no matter where you go. (I'm biased because I've found the command line things to be most fun) Make sure you generalize first and then focus on what you are the most passionate about.
@wanton briar your welcome. I'm open to chat anytime.
thank you!

should i buy ibm thinkpad 2373 f7g for 27$?
yes
should work for wordprocessing and terminal

Hi! Why do we use Cartesian coordinate system in machine learning? Why most of algorithms are calculating distances in that system? Like why that system, if u know what i mean. Thanks
it is just easier and more intuitive to use cartesian coordinate system for eg you can consider x axis as input and y axis as output , also it makes easier to plot difficult calculus graphs and those functions are used many times in deep learning or machine learning in general
same reason why cartesian coordinate system is used in calculus classes

Can I ask what you do with e ink devices?
I have an iPad Air, idk if I should go for one e ink
i feel like eink in general will offer less functionality than ipad and ipad can do everything eink can but if it is a distracting device then u can switch other than that i dont think there is any reason to switch if not for eink and distraction less env
where can I buy not-too-expensive phone parts ?
Ifixit doesn't have a battery for my phone model T-T
local stores is the best bet
sadly, no local stores here have those
ah that sucks
iPads are good if you take a lot of notes
My problem is that my school doesn’t allows phones or any devices inside so I can’t use it
i got hard time understanding this leetcode problem description https://leetcode.com/problems/x-of-a-kind-in-a-deck-of-cards/ can someone helps me; why deck of 4 0s; 2 1s; 2 2s and 2 3s returns true; any help is appreciated
0,0 and 0,0
oh i forgot that. ty lol
do u still need help?
I’m good now
Should i learn something before javascript?
nah , normally you would go learn html css and then js
but i would say going directly in js wont be a big issue
u can always figure things out while doing it
if you get stuck google and chat gpt is your best friend
you have to know html and css to start javascript
does anyone know any resources online that can help learning css and html? I did learn it a few years ago but I feel like I learned it way too complicated and kinda forgot
Odin Project
oh thanks a lot I'll check that out!!
No problem ;)
yeah u need to but its not a end of the world if u dont
i learned it along with way
no I promise you that you need it
or you can’t use the dom
it will depend of your need but understand the dom can be nice even if you don’t wanna do web programming
yea if ur learning javascript for the purpose of web development, its best to have an understanding of HTML and CSS
even if you are not manipulating DOM for your projects, simply creating and building things will be much harder as you have no foundation
although if you are for some reason just picking it up for leetcode or as a general language igggg u dont need it lol
qwerty is the one you should learn first bro 💀
why did u scroll so far
idk lol

not everyone country uses qwerty by default yknow
so i found a deal on a thinkpad T61 with these specs for 40 euros, is it worth it?
planning on running arch on it, might upgrade ram and storage in the future
for aesthetic purpose yeah got for if it is in decent state
T61 is a great machine
as far as i know u can max it out to 4gb
the exterior is pretty banged up tbh, so i will see about it, also do you know how long a charge on a replacement battery for one of these old thinkpads lasts?
how much does this cost?
I have no clue about that
Kinda mid
Core 2 duo and 2gb ain't gonna get you anywhere
Unless you know what you're doing and how to upgrade
Also you only use Linux and are familiar with tiling window managers, etc
It's probably best to find something better
I would say a minimum of 4gb and an i5 would be necessary for casual computing with a desktop environment and all the sorts
There is stuff like Xfce and specific DEs that save RAM, but it'd be pretty tight
Unless this is reserved for using on the side for coding and light browsing, it's probs not worth considering ihmo
aight i see, i'll keep looking
:)
so true
Environment?
i3
@idle dew what are you tryna use your laptop for?
mainly for studying, so tekstbooks and browsing, writing some notes too
You use Linux much?
i have a powerful gaming laptop but as it's a bit distracting i'm looking for a cheap school-only thinkpad
not really, but i'm familiar with linux and bash commands so i think it would be no problem installing some linux distro and using it
Yeah that's basically the name of the game
Will require some tinkering that will be fun if you like computers
Afaik the ram is easily upgradable on that model, and the CPU is probably upgradable too. A small SSD should be a cheap buy as well and it'll run pretty fast
As others said Google something like 'resource efficient desktop environment' and install the one you like. I've been using xfce lately and it's cool. If you're just note taking and on the net it should do you great
Only caveat is to make sure you're keeping your work up to date and available on your other machine in case you run into some set back on your thinkpad
Otherwise it's a very cool computer that will definitely read pdf's and run a browser!
thanks for the input! i'm really tempted to get it now haha
Does anyone know how to make an iframe a link? I dont want an image or anything just text to click on. I tried the a tag, but because it is an pptx file it doesnt work. Thanks
<a href="LINK"> TEXT <a/>
in powerpoint you can also select the text you want to be a clickable link and right click on it ....then it will show link option there you can in =sert any web/file link you want
does anyone know how to set up a boox tablet like how james did?
does he use i3 over another environment

idk if its possible to do it directly
but im currently running kde
but i want my environment to look like jay's
could someone help me doing it
like give me a step by step guide to follow

Rule #2 again
Does anyone here possibly know how to get the schematics for vintage technology? I have a Realistic Portavision T.V. (Model Number: 16-243) which uses a type of radio signal for video input (a type that isn't transmitted anymore), so I thought it would be funny to try and make it compatible with an HDMI, DVI, VGA, or even DisplayPort input so I could use it as a monitor to push my douchebag, vintage hipster agenda. The only issue is that I have never attempted anything like this before, especially with a tv, and so I don't want to try anything without proper schematics of the setup in front of me, but I can't seem to find almost anything about this specific model online. If anyone could help me out, it would be greatly appreciated!
Anyone have tips on writing software you are unfamiliar with? I want to write a user database/management server in C++ that is also for video games. I am afraid of using tutorials but also unsure how to go about coding a program like this from scratch.
I'm really enjoying myself so far but that's because I was playing with std::variant and different response codes or status codes I can create.
bloat use dwm
i3 with vim keybindings seems appealing. I'm on windows so can't really use a window manager.
i dont use i3 but i use kde with bismuth which gives it tiling
In the last few days, I've been spending a little time trying out KDE Bismuth, a tiling extension for the KDE Plasma desktop. And it's really nice. As a long time tiling window manager user, I feel quite comfortable using KDE Bismuth.

I'm lowkey wondering why mac has tiling WM but windows doesn't
nevermind, I found one on the windows store for you guys to try out.
FancyWM is a dynamic tiling window manager for Windows 10/11
☑ Create dynamic tiling layouts with mouse or keyboard
☑ Move window focus with keyboard
☑ Swap windows with keyboard
☑ Resize windows with keyboard
☑ Swap windows with mouse (hold [⇧ Shift] while dragging)
☑ Horizontal panels
☑ Vertical panels
☑ Stack panels (tabbed layouts)
☑ Panel ...
not going to use it myself unless you can use HJKL or WASD
is there anyone that can help me with my python program? it's a simple fix most likely but i can't think of what to do
@graceful ore check DM
Best model of Thinkpad for programming?
And I need an opinion about who is better , Mackbook air m1 or thinkpad ( any model)
I can't say since I don't own both.
I will say I use an Lenovo IdeaPad (a 2014 one and now a 2020+ one) and can say they are a good brand. (thinkpads are more repairable)
anything with a SSD and 8GB or more ram and 1080p display and Ryzen or better iGPU is good in my opinion. just make sure integrated graphics or dedicated graphics is decent if you plan on doing game development or machine learning, and make sure RAM is 16GB if you plan on doing Mobile App development or anything involving Virtual Machine.
you can really do programming on any device since most tools are cross-platform. I think it comes down to personal preference and depends on the target platform you plan on developing for.
Note that for the same price as a good macbook you can probably get both a Thinkpad Laptop for Windows/Linux development and a Mac Mini Desktop for Mac OS development.
Thanks for your answer bro I will keep it in mind

the one thing i love about dumb phones is that they are SMOLLL
can easily and comfortably carry them in my hoddie pocket
absolutely.
macbook air m2 with 8gb is good for programming ? or its better the macbook air m1 with 16gb
screaming in non-native english
i would say go for m1
more ram is always better
and the performance difference between m1 and m2 is not that huge compared to m1 and other intel based macs
and with 16gb of ram u will be more future proof
and at the end of the day both are excellent machines for programming
I want to use more my iPad Pro, any suggestions on how to improve productivity on it? Any apps, or website or other tips?
I'm using VS Code as my IDE, and I want to use the library #include <openssl/sha.h>, but I need to install OpenSSL first. Can anyone send me a youtube video or a blogpost on how to install OpenSSL correctly?
what operating system are you on ?
I'm coding in C++ and using Windows, my only purpose for using that library is just for hashing. are the other libraries I can use instead?
Looking to build OpenSSL to use in projects with Visual Studio 2019? Well, you can do it for free with the Community edition. It's completely free, it just takes time to compile. You can choose to use .dll files (Shared), or you can integrate into your program directly by using Static builds. ((Timestamps below))

anyone?
you wanna use i3 over some other env?
i wanna know what env does jay mainly run
he just uses plain i3
how do you install
plain
im a newbie
sorry to disturb
what distro are you using
arch
without any environment
like just terminal
ok
i did a fresh installation
do this following steps
sudo pacman -Syu
then
this installs i3
sudo pacman -S i3
then
echo "exec i3" >> ~/.xinitrc
this will make sure i3 starts whenever you boot your pc
sudo pacman -S xorg xorg-xinit
install this too
if you havent
this install the x window system which is basically what i3 runs on
then
restart the laptop
or
doo
startx
to start the x system
lmk if u get any errors
brb
it gives me 4 options
i3wm
i3blocks
i3lock
i3status
what do i intsall
all of it
k
i3wm is actual window manager
i3block is well it is a bar thingy
i3 status is a bar to show time and date
and i3 lock is screen lock
how?
oh
i misread
ok
i did
everything
and now my screen has
this
box in blue
and like
some kind of colours in the bottom
if i remember correctly
windows key + enter
on nvm
its alt + enter
yeah default mod is alt key
if it does not open then u dont have the terminal installed maybe
hey, do any of you have any recommendation for (in-ear) earphones??
like for long use (10-12hrs a day type)
like something thats real comfortable and Active Noise Cancelling would be really cool since ill be needing them to watch lectures : )

have you seen it?
nah i went to the recap, 1:26:35
ur welcome man
Any Computer Science or SWE guys... I need help. College OR Technical Trade School OR Bootcamp? Which will get me a job faster.
depends how hard u work
if u wanna grind ur ass off and acc make it go the bootcamp way
ik friends who have gotten jobs within 6 months from 0 epxirience
but they had no life those 6 months
I wanted to go to the trade school because of a bachelor's degree and internship possibility, but bootcamp makes sense if my family wants me to learn remotely only.
if ur in highschool and wanna go into software, just go into a field related
I have 3 years of programming in python and C++ and java. Only know the fundamentals of each but have made game projects.
not too sure what trade school, never really heard of that
I don't really qualify for college because I suck at math and english and hate extra electives and homework. Only homework I enjoyed was programming assignments.
but if u already have epxirience and dont wanna waste 4 years then go bootcamp, the thing is cs doesnt help u get a job xd. It just gives u basic fundamentals (important stuff is dsa, databases, concurrency, operating systems, and compilers are prob the only important courses ive taken)
I've been coding on and off in python since I was 12. Only have been "programming" in the sense of actually understanding things in the past three years after I got language textbooks.
C++ I enjoy but there is no jobs in it in my area. (I want to use it for games specifically)
like bachelors is a lot to do right its 4-5 years of ur life, if u wanna get a job fast + u already have expirience, maybe i would suggest bootcamp
everythings remote lool, just gotta look hard and find all the postings
also look into internships maybe if u have never had a job within the software field
also a side note is that I've already gone to a trade school during highschool where I studied the CompTIA A+ and Network+ and Security+ curriculums and done IT labs.
u can always transition but its nicer to have some eprieincere.
is trade school like college?
its a technical career training school. One of the classes there that I attend is for general IT skills and certifications. I'd imagine college is much more serious and harder. When it comes to programming I am only self taught. Programming is what I am most passionate about.
Also I would suggest seeing what particulair field of programming you would want to go into, whether thats web development, low level hard ware stuff, or machine learning. Each really have their own kinda skill set and if you know exactly want you want to do, it will also be easier to narrow down what path u want to take.
Like i said, if you wanna grind a bit harder, go into a bootcamp, consider the training school, or some online course, if u for some reason want to udnerstand more theoretical computer science concepts, go into a bachelors program
I want to become a entrepreneurial game dev so C++ is fun but I think a web development or cybersecurity job is the most likely option professionally speaking.
Not too sure about cyber security as, but ik for game dev, you will def need to learn everything on ur own (aside from basic object oriented programming skills which will be taught in school, which you can def learn on your own), all the game engines like Unity or unreal engine you will def need to learn yourself. If this is what you want to do, just know you will learn not much from a bachelors (in gaming aspect).
yeah but game dev isn't really the best choice considering my geography
maybe if I lived on the west coast.
I don't want to deal with low-pay and crunch time
its more of a hobby
The thing is jobs are getting really remote, if you looked on linkedin half their listings are all remote
okay
I got a job in austin tx and im in toronto haha
wow opposite side of the continent lol
damn I looked it up and typescript devs are making 6 figures
you'd be suprised how well jobs in software pay, my friend is an intern making 6 figures already
everything is my friend
thats the main thing I'm concerned about
I live out in the country and everyone else has a job outside of tech.
you dont have to step out of ur house to find a job
Oh but idk about certain restrictions
like about visas and stuff if thats what your wondering
Remotley you can often work in like the states, but depending on where you are the rules migth be different
I work from canada in a company within the states and I dont need a visa
I'm only looking for jobs in the states close to me if not 100 miles within my own state
If you live in the states, and are a citizen, should be 0 issue working at any company in any state
what about interviews?
there might be hiccups with timezone issues
but again, usually they will understand and adjust for instacne I start work here at 12 and get off at 8, bc the timezones are fucked up
interviews also just online
lol
I live on east coast so time zone shouldn't be a problem because I wake up earlier
yea so all east coast positions would work
even if not u would just need to adjust your working times
as long as its not too drastic of a change
ie in korea or smth
there is also a load of cybersecurity jobs but I think its harder to get into even with the beginner certs
I just don't know how realistic it is to make that much money in an entry level position
and that is something where they'd prefer you to work locally
there are places where they still ask you to come into office or have some hybrid system, true
i mean its the survival of the fittest, if you dont grind and work hard other people will just eat u
how it is man
hopefully I can start going to the gym. I need to lose weight so going for a run every day would keep me more motivated to work hard
if thats what gets u working hard then ye go for it
just know its hella competetive
and ur gonna need to properly grind if u wanna make it
do you watch Melkey's livestreams?
he is a canadian twitch engineer who covers job advice in SWE.
he is always giving a lot of advice on how to be competetive
ye def lots of resources and people to listen to for sure
but its always a little subjective, if you try something and it doesnt work, change and adapt
anyways thanks for the advice.
ye nw
college can help with networking, though. don’t underestimate the value of that. I’ve gotten various opportunities t work in data/programming internships just within my university + a partner company which are good resume builders
heyo im lookin for your notion notes to literally any subject of yours im tryna collect a big amount of data to make an overview over any subject that is out there and bring it together to a big pool of useful notes. If u feel like u could help me out please dm! PEACE
true depends on uni, but most networking can be done online nowadays. There is maybe a bit more security in getting an intership or getting to know people, but it also costs close to 80k lmao. kinda depends on the person ig/
you can ask notion ai for summaries. i'm not sure how many times you can use it for free though
yeah, it definitely depends on the person, but to be fair i'm on a scholarship so other options could be more cost-efficient
someone can help me to do a pomodoro timer with html, css and js?
yea but its easier that way, because i will have a own perception on how people make notes instead of an A.I making everything for me. P.S i didnt got one single request for sending me some notes lol this society is dead as hell...
Hey! Anyone studying Cisco networking (CCNA, CCNP, etc) in need of advice, study material or other resources feel free to DM me and I will try to help out.
does anyone know how can i make missionaires and cannibals game with html, css and js ??
How do i partition a list into sublist the same size (java) in Leetcode
does anyone have earbud/headphone recommendations (with active noise cancellation)? sweat resistance is a plus because my current pair has a broken earbud and i wear them to the gym ):
I like the Jabra elite 7 pro but they do come out when I sweat. They have anc and you can connect to 2 devices at the same time.
Can anyone suggest me some programs of nested for loop to practice (JAVA LANGUAGE)?
Please ping me
@plain rivet I thought you wanted a DM not a ping.
here are some for loop problems I recommend
For loop problems to do:
- Fibonacci Sequence
- Prime Numbers
- Draw a Line in Terminal (implement line-drawing algorithm)
- Draw a Diamond shape in Terminal
- Draw a Triangle shape in Terminal (4 types of triangles, don't do just one.)
- Doing something with user/entity/object data by iterating over two arrays of different databases.
drawing shapes with for loops and algorithms is really hard to do without cheating. I had to do it in my Java class.
I notice when I'm doing side projects that I tend to use nested for loops a lot when checking objects data for multiple conditions against two objects.
@fringe jetty Thank you
graphics programming involves nested for loops if you want to iterate over a two dimensional vector of screen width and screen height but you can also just do if (i % width = 0) without the nested for loops if its just a buffer with a size of that width * height.
Ok
print pyramids
like the following
*****
***
*
Ok 🙂
Thx, in the exam triangle, Floyd triangle both came
Btw i am GalaxyDragoon......same person
Thx @fringe jetty
how do i get this workspace thing on my desktop
also
can i like use i3 with gnome
it seems a little difficult to use it raw
read the docs
even if explain like this you wont get any use
honestly if you want you can just use gnome with tiling extensinos
no need to use i3
james uses i3 because his hardware is old
i would suggest if you dont want to learn i3 just use plan gnome with tiling extensions
oh
but like the hardware im running on is also pretty old
it is a family computer from 2011
running a quad core pentium
and i got a 4gb ddr3 stick
from another comp from my friend
i upgraded it
it runs arch gnome perfectly fine
till the ram runs out
(about 12 firefox tabs with youtube videos running at 720p)
i actually tested it out 💀
so like im fine with gnome but i wanted to extract some more stuff from it
like
a bit more multitasking
so i thought about i3
yea then its fine
learn i3 tho
Welcome to this three-part series on the i3 Window Manager. i3 is a sophisticated tiling window manager for Linux. In this tutorial, you'll learn what i3 is; how to install it; and of course, how to use it. In the second video, you'll learn how to configure it, too!

this video series of 3 epi is all you need
watch it through and try to replicate what he does
though its not my main computer (its a system76 galago)
i want to use the old comp coz i feel way more productive and it like sits gathering dust
thats nice
Anybody have a suggestion for a good enough OS launcher
wdym by os launcher
just android launcher
aio launcher
unlaucher
if your phone is out of warranty try a custom rom
if not
then prolly go for nova, lawnchair etc
these two were the ones i used
but now have i run pixelOS
Does anyone know where I can get MacOS 10.13 High Sierra?
💀
tried and didn't have luck, hoping someone tech-nerdy has intel about it.
I can only find newer versions but need the base 10.13 install first 🤷♀️
Should you switch to linux(arch or some flavor of ubuntu) as a highschooler? Or a even better question: Is it worth your time and productivity?
if you are into compsci it is always good to know how linux works
also if you are someone who uses old hardware and are tired of windows crashing then linux is a great option
other than that i dont think there are any reasons one should switch to linux
it is very productive for a developer as it is unix env
Hey which Hisense e-reader model does James have?
And where is the best place to buy them? Since goodereader is not trust worthy
Thanks for the help
Nope
Rule of thumb
If you don't have a reason to begin with, there's no need to switch
Linux is a learning curve, and it depends if you want to learn to use it or not
You will likely face technical issues, and you wouldn't have the know how to troubleshoot your problems, and a lot of the times you'd be looking up how to, which is a time sink in an of itself
I have used it on a Vm extensively and i know my ways around unix commands but i haven't used it ever as my PC's main OS. So the learning curve will be much shorter but thank you still for a great answer
Oh
Then for the most part, it will be fine
As long as you know how to troubleshoot
I suggest dual-booting :) running both windows and linux
Try EndeavourOS, pick a DE you like, and while you're installing it, click "install alongside windows", or smth, and once it's done, you will have the option to either boot into Linux or Windows.
And in the future, once you feel like you've gotten comfy daily driving it, you can simply delete the partition.
speed & accuracy > how cool your os looks
you should know how to use both and know how to manage users, fs, mounting, and other key differences. 99% of the worlds networking is linux so learn that too if you havent already.
for vm? otherwise ull have to use hackintosh prolly but i wont recommend it @undone badge
yea arch is cool im in highschool too and i use it mainly but you should try it in virtualbox for few days if its not comfortable/ takes too much time then just doesnt use it remember the best os is the one which works the best for you
The question is not if it's worth your time to switch. The question is if it's worth your time NOT to switch. If you are going to spend any amount of time working on a computer then your computer setup should be customized and optimized to your needs. There's no better way of doing that than installing Linux.
This video will explain my point way better than I can. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xl56IJGKwY
highschooler here too
I first used linux three years ago (to try get a really old laptop working for a project where i chose ewaste as the topic)
then i intsalled linux mint on my main laptop worth the switch
4 months ago i bought a laptop from system76 (they make linux laptops with their inhouse os called popos), works pretty well
and now i have been trying to get into arch
i would say linux is definetely better in terms of productivity and stuff as on a windows or mac its fairly easy to get distracted
i didnt have a reason to switch but now i dont want to switch back 🙂
if you have the time do it
Hey guys, in James “my productivity workflow in 2023” video he has a monitor in the background
Can someone tell me the name of his monitor ?
Can I send a photo here ?
If someone responds to my question please reply to my comment so I can get the notification on my phone, thanks !
@neon moss if its the white model apparently it is an apple monitor. I don't know where he got it from, sorry,.
Dang, thank you !!
there is another sun microsystem monitor also right
its an apple cinema display its available in 2 sizes he has the smaller size , i think he bought it from ebay for like 20 bucks . Its still pretty usable but it would be hard to find the power adapter cus that thing is ancient
hey is anyone here any good in matlab programming? i really need some help with my code. i'd really appreciate if someone can help me out :)))
Anyone know of any good electronic resources I can access to learn how to code with JavaScript as a beginner (preferably something that doesn't push you to pay for a subscription)?
You can search on udemy for free javascript courses
There are a couple of them out there i remember doing one 2 years back all for free
Or just search on yt and you'll find plenty of coursed
something that's helped me understand some js concepts is the "bro code" yt channel
but yh, like tony said, freecodecamp is the best go to option
yo could anyone who's going to uni right now and is going for comp science or another computer related major help me with some questions i have?
are ereaders really worth it? over an ipad
for beginner i'd recommend freecodecamp
you can also try w3schools
Nah
Unless you read often on the go and get eye strain often
Depends on how much u read and what your intentions are
For example, I wanted to look at screens less before bed, so I got an ereader
I started w a secondhand kindle and then decided to get a boox leaf 2 after a bit, since I knew I’d use it
As a high school freshman, I think it depends on your workflow and what you do with your computer. If you do coding or plan on coding, using linux will help you get used to the command line which most programmers use. Also with linux you can customize your system to do pretty much what you want, so you can mold it around how you use your computer/how you work. I recommend trying out different linux distros to see what you like the most, and maybe do a dualboot for a period of time.
I see. Thank you
Do kindles allow downloads from uh chrome sites
For epubs :p
gt1030?
Not in the kindle directly but you can download files on a laptop and send them to your kindle’s email address
I see thank you so much
Unless it's manga, then you'd have white margins
Yeah for manga I had to use kindle comic converter and all that stuff. It’s still very possible, just a lil more work
That didn't work for mine, because I had the new paperwhite, which is slightly bigger, so all the software used to do that didn't work
here is a nice resource: https://teachyourselfcs.com
All the resources you need to give yourself a world class computer science education
I'm thinking about getting an ereader bc I'd like to have a nice little device to read and take notes on (my laptop is so big it broke part of my messenger bag) and I wanted to know if the Boox Leaf2 is compatible with a stylus? Its touchscreen but I don't think it comes with one and I was wondering if I could buy a seperate stylus and pair it with a note app or something. Anyone know?
rz
I'm pretty sure the screen has to have sensors to register them accurately.
That's how it is for all tablets. If it didn't come with pen compatibility, then it's not gonna work well.
Look into the nova air 2, it’s basically the leaf w/ a stylus
There’s even a case available w/ page turn buttons
Hi everyone, I've got an issue with html/bootstrap. Would anyone be able to give me a hand?
anyone here familiar with LSL
Ask chatgpt
Ask chat gpt, don't copy it word for word tho
I have a problem with the r language and I have one subitem with the task: "Generate a number sequence from the rnorm distribution that will show 10 numbers from 1 to 20."
function main need to return an int at the end soo we return 0 , some would say 0 means no errors
@distant rock
oh aight
i'm new at C and don't understand a thing
and have an exam tomorrow
yippy
@distant rock good luck i went through that too but at the end you gonna love the language (except for pointers thats ehm ehm sad)
thanks
Hello people, I wanna start learning C language but Idk where to start, like 0 idea never code nothing in my life
can anyone give me a light
@sweet lintel
The C lang is very hard to start with
Here you go - https://www.w3schools.com/c/index.php
And it will be tough
My advice, just keep going
This is something you have to push through
Brute force it
You may feel like you're not learning anything, but don't let that stop you
Watch this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtfbWkxJTHw

And JUST DO IT
I’d recommend CS50
I believe it’s primarily taught in C
Anyone familiar with using excel?
it's python and actually i have doubt that in the first output the p is printed right i.e. 150 but after the hash the output is 100.....shouldn't it be 50 like 150-100 i.e. and same with other cases
Problem Statement:
A program will receive inputs from the user and save them in a double type array, salary [ ]. The minimum data to be saved is ten (10).
This program also allows user to retrieve the saved data. User will enter the keyword (salary) to be searched in the array.
The program then will display the following information:
-an appropriate message if the element is found
-the index of found element
-an appropriate message if the element is not found.
import java.util.Scanner;
public class LinearSearchSALARY {
static Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
public static void main (String[] args)
{
double[] salary = new double[10];
System.out.println("Enter 10 salary: ");
for (int i=0; i<salary.length; i++) {
salary[i]= input.nextDouble();
}
this is what i get for now, any good resources for linear search? Our book only have 1 example
hi, i know a little bit i may be able to help u !!
Thanks for the help ❤️
hello world, i want to learn bash so as to become a power user in linux and what not, so could you guys help me to get started and what to do (i don't know bash at all , new to it)
I need help with some decoding, shouldn't be that complex imo
try this on https://www.pythontutor.com
The "real way" of doing this is the man page man bash or just to man any command like export.
To be honest though not many has the time or the patience to read a full man page. The best way of learning, in my honest opinion, is to just use it. Learn the basics like the important env variables (PATH) and the basic commands like ls, cd (if you consider it a command), mv, cp, find, grep, less, more, etc. The hard part is to push threw and to not get tempted by an easier to learn GUI app. An exercice that got my hooked up on the shell is to compile the software i needed from source instead of installing it using the package manager. This way i leaned, make, cmake, mv, cp, less, pipes, jobs, gcc, g++ and many more.
On a final note try and learn stuff that is POSIX it will avoid many problems down the line if you start scripting and porting stuff to other OS or just other machines
hope this helps and best of luck 😄
Hello can someone help me with this lines of code
Im trying to make the rectangle rotate round the player
public playerMovement mv = null;
[SerializeField]
private float speed;
[SerializeField]
private float rotationSpeed;
public Transform father;
// Start is called before the first frame update
void Start()
{
// mv = GetComponent<playerMovement>();
}
// Update is called once per frame
void FixedUpdate()
{
if(mv.moveVector != Vector2.zero)
{
// Quaternion toRotation = Quaternion.LookRotation(Vector3.forward, mv.moveVector );
// transform.rotation = Quaternion.RotateTowards(transform.rotation,toRotation, rotationSpeed * Time.deltaTime);
Vector2 moveDir = transform.position-father.position;
float angle = Mathf.Atan2(moveDir.y, moveDir.x) * Mathf.Rad2Deg;
transform.RotateAround(mv.transform.position,transform.position, angle);
}
}
}
this is my Code but I cannot figure ou why it wont work
Does anyone know how James transfers his handwritten PDF annotations into Emacs org-mode here?
I fixed the problem I was having if anyone needs to create a rotation around a gameobject using movement position. Here is the script fr unity 2D
// Update is called once per frame
void FixedUpdate()
{
if(mv.moveVector != Vector2.zero)
{
Quaternion toRotation = Quaternion.LookRotation(Vector3.forward, mv.moveVector );
transform.rotation = Quaternion.RotateTowards(transform.rotation, toRotation, rotationSpeed * Time.deltaTime);
}
}
i think he does it manually because the thing he showed in his emacs org mode was not what he wrote
I wanna get into computational physiocs cuz i like physics but im more of a compsci perosn
where should i even start 😭
Yeah, I noticed that too. The text description in the video confused me a bit then. Because I assumed there was a way to automatically import handwritten notes into an emacs org file. Too bad that is not the case. Would be awesome. But thank you for your reply.
Hello so I'm having a project and for that i need an Arduino UNO and an ESP8266 connected .Everything seems fine and code was running and suddenly ESP8266 stopped being recognized by the computer and now i noticed that if only i hold the reset button of the ESP the system can read it .When i leave it goes back to nothing .Anyone knows anyway to fix this .
?
Does anyone have any idea on how to use these type of lcd screens?
idk, but this guy, has extensive arduino YT channel about it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eT2EiBglLvc&list=PLJcaPjxegjBUsCc8PDvalF9j9dvc1RpUh

does anyone know how i can connect my laptop to a old retro tv?
if it has HDMI out you just need to get a converter @idle dew
You want an HDMI to component converter
note that you should set the resolution to 480p if you are going this route unless its a high definition crt.
nah it dosent have a hdmi output, it has the red yellow white cable thingies
your laptop has those cables?
converts any modern device to old format.
I know with my gamecube upscaler I use it is very blurry even when outputting to HDMI it has the same quality as the normal adapter.
are you trying to circuit bend
nah mine has an HDMI cable only and i want my laptop to use my old tv as a monitor
wdym
nvm nvm, you should check it out tho if you are into crt visuals
Yeah i bought a HDMI to AV converter and my laptop recognizes the tv as a screen but the tv dosent recognizes my laptop thats the thing
What kind of TV is it?
samsung, its one of those big blocky ones
ah damn i see i see
maybe try changing the channel
like in normal tvs u chan choose between avs and hdmi
there's that other port in tvs for antennas, maybe it's set in that
IT WORKS
i connected it again today and changed channels and it worked
For anyone using Adobe Design programms. Is there a way to send a file eg. A Newsletter as an Email. So the recieving part doesnt have to download a file, but can look at it immediatly in the email??
I know its possible with word files
Export as image maybe?
I dont know I dont wanna buy the application without knowing that. And my free trial ran out 😦
woohooo
hello can someone help me with excel could we jump in vc so i can explain my situation better
As constructive criticism. Just don't use black arch unless you are familiar with standard arch and with Kali. (Im speaking from experience here) also this is not the place to ask for help with pen testing). Also with your problem try unmounted the part and perhaps use Gparted if you are new 🙂 cli can be aqward. 🙂 (Good luck).
Hope you fix it
export from adobe as word files?
i wanna learn ML, i know python and trying to learn linear regression, anyone have a good roadmap then plz tell me

I'm trying to get the screen size (access to the screen object of the Alien Invasion class) to assign it to the Ship class attribute and continue working with it
Thank you very much
No worries, he presumably uses an arch based distro. I'm just not sure which one.
is anyone here good at coding w python specifically data analysis :,)
What need?
hey guys
im so much worried about AI in my future job role that i can even stop to study right now
Im looking for UI/UX design, a friend, who is a programmer( a fucking good one) and other sources of info told me that is going to end in a near future
Does someone is passing throug it ? I need talk and understand better this problem, this is ledding me crazy
Because im finishing my online college and well, that role was my plan till now hahahahah
AI right now isn't anywhere near of eradicating our jobs. It can be a useful tool for sure but a language model like GPT lacks the problem solving capabilites humans do.
ai wont replace anyone who is good at their thing
if u think ai can replace you then maybe you are really noob at it
i would say this is the time you should leverage it and use it to produce maximum output
yes, as i said i am a student, i'm at college yet, i dont even have a job in Design role. Im just getting different opinions about it, to choose one role and develop myself in the best way, to my future job, thinking about with all these tech advances and new problems....
ty man, i would love it.
I'm already have some ideia of how AI works because i tried some myself and i did some research about it too My problem is more about the UI/UX role of design, what it looks like it's going to be more affected than other design roles.
And it was the exactly role that i want to enter
yes, but if they get better than now i think that is going to be a lot of lay offs in some areas and of course some new jobs getting created
That is why i want to understand better it and dont start whit a bunch of software in determined area that have literally none future
it did , thank you kind stranger
Im like a guy who wants to be a junior dev and wants to know what progamming language are on the market
but in web design haha
the fact is that UI/UX are being on pressure
and things dont look like they are going to get better
Tell me
Hii thanks for the reply though I have already fixed my problem , have a good day!
restart?
He uses Arch Linux and i3 with picom compositor. Also just noticed he swapped to Neovim. (f*** emacs)
(I think he uses i3-gaps but i3 and gaps have now been merged)
(the best linux )
hey
C and Python for now
a beginner I know the basssssics
Actually I know more about C
do you know of anyone explaining it in details
For Python

Thats what I used
First one I did c++ instead of C
Tysm
Yeah I also have to say getting into linux will be really useful if you want to program a lot
Also I assume your a student rn?
if so
Got some forums and lots of nice free stuff
tyyy
yep
yeah life is hard for students we do NOT have money yet we need to learn somehow
Yeah
Thanks again frr : )
does anyone here use emacs?
Also perhaps try https://www.rust-lang.org/ best lang and also the best methods of learning.
No go away this is a VIM only zone
Jk yeah I did what you need help with
i need help w installing org mode
You on linux? or mac
windows
ah ok
sheet
I would just use DoomEmacs conf
has it installed by defualt
what does org mode even do
Calendar and TODO list etc etc
I would't use emacs on windows
VS code is better on windows
Emacs Org Mode for Visual Studio Code (In Progress, contributions are welcome)
OK i gotta get going again
alr thanks cya
yeah cya
If anyone get this problem with an Acer nitro monitor leave it off for like 12 hrs and hopefully it will fix like mine
Nvm it broke happend again after 5 mins
So, ive used up all my icloud storage, but still have a lot of device storage. It says that I wont be able to send/recieve messages from my icloud email, but can I still with my phone number?
anyone that is good with python??
I might be able to help depends
depends on your usecase
if you learn c++ there are use cases for competitive programming jobs etc
rust is good for personal projects and opensource
also rust gives you good user experience
is it easy to convert to rust from c++
since i just bought resoucers for c++ ...
@glad wyvern so yea....
yeah if you learn cpp transitioning to any programming lang wont be a big issue
but rust has its own quirks
just remember if you become good enough programmer then programming language is just a tool doesnt matter which one you use
thanks for the tip 👍
Question for Objects and Inheritance in Java. Can I extend an object with subclass material after already initiating it with the base class class material?
in basic logic the subclass contains everything the base class does, but wouldn't that change the Object's type or something?
Rust is almost factually better than cpp
however is not so common in education and is becoming more popular in companies but I agree that cpp is a good language to transition from however
it is not easy to transition to rust
rust is a very difficult language to start learning and requires some grit.
why am i getting pinged for a month old messege lmao
trust me it is the only decent wm for beginners things like sway sowm are the ones which are real real tough
anyways wms are overrated
what are you even talking about man it doesent even work out of the box thats not 'decent'
for begginers
oh trust me there are wms out there for which you have to edit source code to work
it does??
it just doesnt have a wallpaper lmao
it is the most well made out of the box wm out there
It has no nm-applet or any applets ugly borders and opens a shitty default terminal keybindings you have to google and terrible screen tearing until you fix it maually.
oh and xorg
Im super biased though so dont listen
other than awesome wm what other wm gives you all that out of the box
i wont even call awesome a wm but it is what it is lol
wm are meant to be barebones because you can bring whatever tools you like
at least i3 has a bar by default
i use my desktop without bar and without notifications lol
Seconding what voidz said, that for a window manager, not to be confused with a full-fledged desktop environment, i3-wm is great for starters because of its easy config file and good documentation + the included bar
And yeh, window managers are so overrated 😅 I switched from Gnome to i3-wm for a while, and then went back to Gnome, lmao
Why use a wm as a beginner is my point
bye a modern laptop nerd, also a greasy laptop doesn't make you a special.
just disgusting
also rip out the stickers.
guys, how I can learn python fast? I started to learn it but it gets more complex and Even I learn the functions etc. I still suck at the creativity part
i would say more coding, watch youtube video. don't try to learn faster. just try to get better understanding first.
If your problem is in ideas and creativity to solve and create an algorithm, I suggest you to watch the cs50 course on YouTube once so that your mind is formed.🙌
+1
Make sure you have a github account and start getting into some small projects like the ones in make your own X then think about learning git and linux then start open source projetcs 🙂 later on I have some OSS (open source software ) projects.
and watch this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtfbWkxJTHw

This is my favorite programming tutorial ever
@visual pasture These are the materials I would recommend it took me a while to compile these over maybye 2 years and are well thought out
Double recommend his Python tutorial, it's sweet
and maybe https://www.rust-lang.org/learn
(im biased)
What I'm trying to do is go through the Python course here + the beginner projects, which is ordered by difficulty
On their YouTube
It's really good
Yeah cool
Someday 😭 maybe after Python and basic programming logic
Which I struggle with often
Also might worth recommending
After I learnt python I got into linux then into rust and now I cant get away from it I love it
yeah
Sooooo all of his books are beginner friendly and free under the CC license
Epiiiic :D that's the plan then
Although
I've been using Linux for 3yr, lol
Ohhh
and for fun https://www.youtube.com/@ThePrimeagen
he is really funny nice guy!
(a bit not for beginners though as he can be quite intense)
I like coding channels that are fun to watch
Coding can be really painful, but seeing ppl make interesting stuff with it motivates me to learn
Probably my fav series
Otherwise, I would have hated it forever XD
Check it out, you might like it
@visual pasture Now you have the best materials no excuses lets see you master python then master rust (im biased)
heyo, I was looking into making a simple 2d platformer game in c++, I know the basics in it, and I really think a project like this is going to boost my knowledge, problem is I have no idea how to make the game panel, or how to implement images, where do I put the functions, etc. I'm also on linux so preferably a multi-platform tool? thank you in advance
good luck love too see what you come up with, Unfortunately I have no idea but none the less think its a cool idea! Will it be on GH>
?
my guy I just said I got no idea how to implement it
what is GH
oh it's a compiler
or is it?
pls enlighten me 🤲
Oh sorry I mean GitHub
sdl2
is the lib you are looking for
The remake of Super Mario Bros (1985) made with C++ and SDL2 library. - GitHub - Luxon98/Super-Mario-Bros-game: The remake of Super Mario Bros (1985) made with C++ and SDL2 library.
take a look at this repo
clone it look at the functions and sprites etc
sdl is also cross platform so thats nice
check how they implement basic game mechanics
thats the tough part as it req a bit of math and understanding it through code can be a bit daunting at first but i would say it is it would be fun so go for it
this guy has made it very complicated
you try it keep it simple
does anyone know any photographers to research
About what topic?
Hello guys. I would like your thoughts on this. What do you think about this information being collected (esp, the keystroke patterns one)?:
"Technical Information we collect about you. You already know the answer
yes, kind of. But I want to know your thought on it.
They are a Chinese company whom have a destructive and unsafe service that collects the same data that a piece of spyware would. It is a technological (for lack of a better term) bioweapon.
So, is this just TikTok or are there other tech companies that do that too?
I cant say for certain. However I personally stopped using all social media except youtube because I can say that it affects state of mind. However, for those who dont care about that I think they should care about being spied on.
In short I dont know nor particularly need to
Nobody really pays attention to social media companies' privacy policies. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this topic.
I think that this is why tiktok is so good at serving you content you’re more likely to be interested in, but also keep in mind that every successful social media company does this
Look into the attention economy if you haven’t
As for terms and services there’s no real way to say no to them because you have such a strong social incentive to use these apps and they’re purposely made super long so that ppl don’t read them
Thanks!
She will always have a place in our hearts o7

Yeah
Is there any math based problems in coding like make a reverse number from a positive integer? Just want to practice them.
Well you can try that one above it requires some math
And do you mean inverse ?
I googled the answer already lol
For what?
for the problem above
It's not very easy to get it efficient
You can't just Google it
🤦♂️
It's gotta run 🙂
it ran
looks interesting
