what is the purpose of data mining?
basically turning loads of data to understandable/processable data
I'm trying to make a github for my student organization at school, and i'm wondering what my free options are to manage repos for projects we'll be working on. could I just make a "personal" account under the org name and invite collaborators to the repos, or is there a better way to do this? also could I just fork repos made by our members and display it on the profile?
everything fine right now, found someone who did it for me
Ok 👍 if you want another one I’ll help you
hello! so i’m new to computer science and using scratch for my online course but i’m having issues with creating a simple game does anyone think they could hop on a call and help me out?
yo i have been using firefox with user.js and everything seems to work fine i.e the websites are loading up but then when i change profiles and try to use the profile without the user.js file then none of the sites are loading up --the error message is -- CONNECTION TIMED OUT but some reason google and wikipedia seem to be running this is not only happening in normal firefox aka without the user.js file but in ungoogled chrome as well
why is data mining needed or important?
after restarting Network Manager (OS --> endeavour OS ) it's back to normal but i still don't know what could have caused the issue
if anyone knows the cause of the problem feel free to explain
nope not working same thing aagain -_-
Anyone know an affordable e ink tablet I can use to mark up PDFS? Sold my m1 ipad air the other day cause it wasn't worth the investment just to use goodnotes.
So my friend gave me this, but what can i really use it for besides plugging in LAN? or even WAN? and what’s the usb port for?
i have a vague idea of what it does
it’s a router
now i have to find out how it works
Hey guys! I am looking for a good battery for my Thinkpad T400 but I don't want to spend more money on it than what the laptop costs. I've found a Greencell one, so I would like to ask you if this brand is good and if their battery would be good quality and work with the laptop?
guys am new to css and used a imageslider as my background but for some reason it flickers occasionally any one that can help?
the con selector is the name of the div
or the class name perhaps
like it turns white for a split second during its shift to a new img
Hi guys! I found out today that I have a technical interview tomorrow, any tips? All resources online are giving me like 4-week training plans but I only have one night to get ready:)) I have never had a whiteboard coding interview before either, so I dont know what to expect
for whiteboard coding talk through your thought process. even if you have a wrong answer you can still get you hired
I hope so 🤞 Thanks!
hey, does anyone know a good youtube channel/ free online course to learn HTML? Thanks 🙏
Trying to curb my iPhone use, are there any apps y’all recommend to help for that?
The native Screen Time is quite good. You can get a family member or friend to type in the password for you so you don't extend the limit you give yourself
to anyone who uses a tiling window manager, do you have any tips on what the best one is for beginners and how to get started configuring it?
i3 is the best for beginners
manjaro has this neat background with all the keybinds you need
but i DO NOT recommend using manjaro as an OS
Thank you so much!!!
dont worry i wont LOLL
not trying to ddos the aur😵💫
lol
Computer Science majors! What are some advice that you have for your major?
do programming on the side bc u learn more theory in school
and it really wont help u much professionaly
if ur plannong on doing software development ^
just install i3 and watch a few videos about window managers
from ppl like distro tube etc
good luck falling into the rabbit hole
Get a good GPA but don't just focus on the education you receive from your university
u need many courses
Thank you 👑
this is technically digital philosophy, but does anyone have any experience with creating circuits & gates (AND, NAND, OR, XOR, NOR, etc.)?
creating in what way?
umm...(important for future questions) does anyone here know or has expiririence with python, bash, c and kali linux?
Hey does anyone know what os does James use while studying is it linux or mac
all of the above but i’m not a kali pro
drawing out mostly
Anyone using dual boot in one drive win & linux?
Ok, if you have a question about that just ask it
does anyone know how to make the imageslider compatible in mobile view
pleaseeeee pm if u have time to spare i rlly need help
how can i transfer files easily? except for mobile to pc transfer
does anyone know how to make the imageslider compatible in mobile view
pleaseeeee pm if u have time to spare i rlly need help
arch and macos
arch for study , windows for streaming , and macos for other stuff
could you be a bit more specific about what you need help with? do you mean you're trying to make an image slider for a website you're developing responsive on mobile screens or?
im not really expierienced with this but i think it depends on what u want to transfer and from what device to what device u want to transfer
Can anybody recommend a free program to make diagrams like that one?
If you're willing to invest a little time then learning plantuml is a great way to make diagrams like that and loads more
thank you, I'll definitely check it out!
imo it's really handy thing to know how to use as you can throw together some pretty neat diagrams very quickly
couple of examples @valid veldt
kinda forgot but does anyone remembers what type of monitor james is using
you can use figma
he's currently got an apple cinema display, 23" iirc
you can use fedora i3, it's more stable than manjaro
im on debian rn im probably gonna stick to this or arch
Guys I´m a complete beginner in Python and I don´t understand this error because I think I defined response above but idk
the variable response is defined inside the find_songs function
so that you can't use it outside of that function
so take the response = response.json and the print statement inside of the find_songs function
Agree with @slow wasp i3 comes with some sane keybinds out the box and is pretty easy to get into
How come?
Usually the reasons that ppl dislike Manjaro is bc 1. they forgot to upgrade their SSL certificate three times 2. they hold back updates from arch so it even though it's arch based it's not as up to date as arch meaning 3. it does not work with the aur well 4. their gui package installer has ddosed the aur twice
Fair. I set my parents up with it as it took no time to set up and gets a bit more out of their old laptops
Seems to be running smoothly for that use case
yea despite not having all the benefits of a typical arch based distro it works just fine for a lot of ppl
I've been on artix for a little bit and it's serving me well
prior to that I was a gentoo dood
i used manjaro with kde
i liked it for a while but started disliking it
im using xmonad now
@olive cipher
can anyone help me set up my server? im shit w techs
anyone know how to spoof their user agent? I have a windows PC and want to spoof an apple iPhone
does anyone here have any good apps for an ipad to help boost productivity? Just got an air and I'm kind of unsure how to use it

I know this isn't exactly the response you may have been looking for... but do you have to work on the ipad?
best way to limit its chance of distracting you is to put it in another room while working
I've been using it for notes and it's been really nice, so I wanna maximize its potential
tbh I haven't gotten distracted too much w it yes so yeah
I don't know if you can get the "Stay Focused" app from the apple app store
I used it on android and you can really lock down your device with it
alr alr ty
there seems to be a stay focused app in the apple store, but it doesn't look the same
worth trying though
hey i need help urgently, i encrypted my folder and it disappeared from the desktop, i can't find it in my files either. I only have the encryption certificate, but as I said, I can't find my associated folder
If anyone gets an xserver up and running in wsl2 please let me know
im trying for like 2 hours now and im so frustrated because they where important documents, i had it synchrosised with drive cloud but there its gone too because it synchrosised right after it
gonna need more info my dude. operating system? how did you encrypt the folder? and so on.
anyone else think there should be like a dumbphone/digital minimalism chat room? or would that technically be ironic lol
started to learn C to understand other languages better, ill be back random internet strangers :I
would better to have it set up on an irc network
hehe
that would be cool! tbh idk much abt them or how to even message in one lol
REAL
would prefer not to use discord since it's spyware
hey, does anyone know how to get the sum of all user inputs in C#? trying to get the total
- frustrated beginner who just keeps seeing increment tutorials
it's just a little flashy, about 10 million features I will never
on windows picture following
here i did this option and after that, the whole folder was gone
i also tic this option what is called "hidden" in german
I'm not hugely experienced with windows
@idle dew but does this page help at all?
Learn how to display hidden files, folders, and drives.
i will have a look thanks for ur patience
@idle dew No sweat, I've been in your shoes! In the future back everything up before preforming a task like this
:^)
let me know if you find the files
😊 💓
does anyone know how to code with nand2tetris?
if so do you know how to code the inc16.hdl ? 😅
does anybody know how to compare two excel tables? I exported the search results I got from to different queries in Web of Science into an excel table and now I'd like to filter out the dublicates... I tried to google it but nothing seems to work
Are you trying to remove items that appear in two tables in a single excel 'page'?
or two separate pages?
I basically never use excel so I'm not that sure about the terminology, but its ( I think) two seperate pages
like this
yeah nice
Compare two tables in Excel and find duplicates using the Compare Tables tool in Ultimate Suite.
this page seems to cover how to compare two pages/spreadsheets for duplicate items, which you can then either highlight, remove, select etc
ok thank you so much! I will try it out an report back 😄
it worked i looooooveeeeeeeeeeee uuuuuuuuuuuu
bro i would literally never found this setting never fucking ever
yep its arch
he uses arch for programming and uses his macbook for note taking and stuff with doom emacs
haha awesome that is great news
I wasn't sure how hidden files worked on windows bit figured it couldn't be too far off how it works in linux
and now that you've found them I feel ok giving you a virtual slap for not backing up your shit before making a big move like that
hah
BACK UP YOUR IMPORTANT STUFF
😔 👍 sorry chef
haha
all is forgiven, I'm just stoked you managed to find those files
I remember when I was handing my dissertation, I had it stored on three different hard drives... they all died on me
it was the sweatiest day of my life
Any full stack developer here looking to collaborate on a project ?? DM
I’m in learning stage
Yes would like to collaborate.
guys, do u think i should use linux on my laptop
i already have a good pc, i only use laptop for university and programming
my laptop specs: (8 GB ram, 500 ssd, gtx 1650ti, i5 10300H)
go for it linux teaches you command line and it is really helpful in long run as a programmer
choose ur path by either shooting yourself in the foot by installing arch or install popos and go slow and steady
and also linux is just cool in general
Ok thx. I already have experience with debian i think I will try Arch this time.
install gentoo
kidding not kidding
but yeah go for it, linux is great for machines with low specs so you laptop will fly
found a nutty ThinkPad T60 on ebay and shall cop
is a chromebook good for linux? Specifically debian bases os’s
bcuz chromebook are really cheap, i was just wondering
I have a feeling that they might be a little annoying to work with
like can you access the bios to boot to a usb on them?
looks like it's possible but seems simpler on a non-chrome book
i agree with coversall, it's simpler and better to do it with a non-chrome book. but if you're set on it for some reason, chrome os has a linux subsystem feature so you can install whatever you want outside of the limited scope of chrome os -- that saved me during high school heh
plus you can grab a refurbed think pad for a really good price and just install linux on that
how about having windows and linux on one laptop, is that a good idea? if u ask urself how this should work, the explanation is via virtual machines 🙂
dual booting would be better than a VM imo
On my PC I just have two ssds, one with linux installed and one with windows. I switch the sata cables when I need to use windows for ArcGIS
thanks for the info :)
that makes sense
i use kzs and shure does that count?
Guys im studying redblack tree can someone confirm if the paint picture is the correct final representation for the example on the slide?
binary search?
yeah seems correct
its balanced
btw can anyone suggest me some good emacs org mode videos? I would really like to try it out after my exams
better idea
start with gentoo
if you can figure out how to install gentoo
you'll be ready for linux
yo is it possible to install android os on Microsoft Lumia 540?
use this to upload epub and pdf to your amazon account
then you can read them anywhere using kindle
any compsci students here? let me know, i’d be happy to tutor occasionally or help with fixing bugs!!
heyo everyone

HELP
I can't move my Adobe-cracked apps from Disk C to Disk D in my computer
and there's literally no space left, it's not working properly
WHAT DO I DO
There is no space in your whole disk or just the just partition C? Both case, you need to reinstall those apps
If you dont have space then move your desktop files, other media files to the other disk rather than any trouble with reinstalling software
What sort of skills do you guys think i should learn? (Related to programming)
im currently trying to learn html, but im not sure if i should learn something else
No I want to try
Depends on what CS field you are trying to get in
Cybersecurity
Learn shell scripts, and architecture of windows, linux, mac, android, learn basic unix commands like sed, grep, awk, etc. And besides all that you need to learn a little bit about how networks work, but if you want to go more of a threat response field you need to learn how to reverse engineer programs, use either IDA or ghidra. And have some idea about C and Assembly
Theres alot more to it but get a good idea of what activities you would be doing.
Also there are hardware technologies like HID devices, Wifi cards like the pinapple that you can use to spoof wireless networks and shit but for now just learn without spending anything, there are alot of free stuff on the internet. And this field is a bit complicated for most so just dont spend anything
Thanks!
Any languages i should learn?
Ok, will do :)
king shit
Learn C tbh if you get good at C, you can learn other programming languages without much problem.
Resident of based land😳
Hmmm if u r into cybersecurity maybe start with C or C++ and then python
Maybe u will learn C# and js at some point but for now foucs on C++ then python
Ok! Ill try learn some C or C++. Heard its pretty difficult tho 😳
Dammnnn ok! Ill try haha
It will be the hardest because it is the first
Take your time learning it and do some problem solving later
Ok!
By the way, anyone know where i can buy old thinkpads for cheap? (Other than ebay)
^
yes
ebay is pretty amazing for old TPs, why are you trying to avoid it?
otherwise try and look for companies that specialise in selling refurbed office stock
Laptops direct in the UK is good, they always seems to have a decent stock of refurbished thinkpads
r/thinkpadsforsale/
aight ill check that out!
shipping, authenticity, etc
Any tips for finding thinkpads in good condition? Thanks :)
Ok :)
Not much beyond the usual due diligence, checking feedback on the seller, asking them a few questions prior to buying.
Something I like to do is ask the seller for extra images to check the item they are selling is the one that is actually in the picture.
I've been lucky I suppose as I've always bought fairly cheap machines from ebay so it was never a huge riske
Actual gent right here👑
hello! Does anybody have a knowledge on the use of Semaphores on OS? I'm really struggling to solve some exercises and to comprehend how semaphores work. Any help would be appreciated
do you have a dual boot of windows and linux or just linux and which linux are you using
also do you know any good tutorials for installing linux
no dual boot. I recently installed windows on a separate ssd as I needed to use ArcGIS, so I just switch the sata cables when I need to use windows.
Most distros have detailed wikis and good manuals in installation. Plus a lot of distros have a graphical installer.
If you're totally new then jump on a distro that is easy to install and give it a try. I think most people go through a phase of distro hopping so you'll get loads of experience installing haha
I think I would change my distro and reinstall every couple of months when I started using linux
which distro do you recommend
btw thank you very much for the detailed answer
i really appreciate it <3
no sweat! tbh I would say hop on https://distrowatch.com/dwres.php?resource=popularity and look at the '12 month' category and just pick anything from the top 10
News and feature lists of Linux and BSD distributions.
When I started distro hoping I bought a large usb stick and used it as my 'vault' and kept all my "can't loose" files on there
that way I could format my hard drive without a care
thank you!
don't get too caught up in all the minor differences between distros atm
you'll learn what is important as you go. Just get installing and learning
god bless GentooWiki
yeah taught me so much about partitioning hard drives. I installed gentoo originally for the memes but stayed for portage and the wiki
ANYONE WHO CAN HELP ME TO MAKE A WEBSITE? IT'S GONNA BE LIKE A CHATBOT ASSISTANT.

I can help you for free or make the project for you for $
Anyone using Calibre? Will it work if i sideload it on android and mac
hey im having a problem i tried dual booting mint linux and my brother started annoying me that he wants to play and i said just a sec but that quickly got to long and i got impatient so i think i stopped the installation mid way through so when i tried booting back to windows and now it just shows me my backround without all the desktop apps and the taskbar without the apps and i cant do anything does this mean i messed up my windows?
sorry for the lack off "." and ","
ctrl alt delete -> task manager -> file -> run new task -> Explorer.exe
thats only if the desktop is like glitched or something
if not that idk u might have to do a bit more work to fix it
dont stop an installation mid way thru lol
How much time does instaling mint even take lol, like 5mins max?
5 on ssd and like 10-15 on hard drive
can you get into bios and change the boot order so the windows partition is in the number 1 spot?
Still its not that much tbh
It boots up tho, i dont think there is any issue with its boot partition
help you how?
@idle dew you could look at using the GUI installer to make the process simpler
otherwise it's a good idea to read over the wiki pages about installing a couple of times so you are familiar with it all before you start
Or think about using manjaro which is arch based
I did try installing it once but the wifi couldn't be detected during the installation after booting
yeah i'll try
the first thing to do is to certain what the wifi chipset in you laptop is
then to look into the linux driver needed to run it
if it isn't included in the base packages then you may need to download it and put it on a usb stick before the install
i see seems pretty complicated
otherwise if you can run the install with an Ethernet connection
it's not too bad. this has always been one of the first hurdles to linux that people encounter, working out the drivers needed for their hardware
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Laptop/Dell
This page makes it seem like wifi is supported on arch in all the inspiron laptops
it ain't there already checked it🥲
have you got a functioning OS on the laptop atm?
yup
can you use it get the name/model of the wifi card in it?
it's an old one so I thought of experimenting with it
yeah it's a good idea, I'm almost certain that the wifi card is supported, so we should be able to get it working
yaaay
please note the almost haha
no worries, @ me when you find out which wifi card it is and I'd happily help you looking at the drivers etc
use gdb?
anyone familiar with unreal engine?
guys
is anyone good at python?
im currently experimenting with nested if statements andf tried to build my own currency converter
Im having issues with my code for some reason
can someone please help me out
?
exact error ?
nvm i fixed it
so basiclaly
i had a nested if
calling first upon a string
and accidently
towards the response
i coded it to expect a float when it was supposed to expect a strig
stribg
so i changed it
and fixed it that way
greatt
xD
ill send the code to you, i do have a few questions related to shortning the lines used
gimme a minute
suree
Hi can anyone give me some advice on what laptop I should get for my IT degree, I’m starting in about 2 and a half weeks and I’m not sure which laptop is reliable for everyday usage for my IT degree
get a macbook air with the M1 or M2 Chip
it should very much suffice for all your need and is a good investment for long-term usage.
You can get a PRO if you want which is much better but I think the air will be most suitable for you unless you use high CPU draining softwares
or maybe an ipad
i was kinda leaning towards a Macbook too since i felt like it was the most reliable, idk if pro or air is better tho absolutely don't wanna get the air m2 since its in a similar price range with the MacBook pro m2 and pro has fans as well might come in handy
i see
ipad probs wont be very helpful in terms of coding prob good for notes
true
tbh pretty hard decision to make on weather to go with macbook or windows as an IT student
i've emailed them, they send me the laptop requirements that's all, but what i wanna know is whats the popular choice for IT
proooo
surely most modern laptops will be sufficient? It's really a choice of windows/linux/osx
was looking into the pro as well
how come
well this is my opinion but
i needed to install an IDE on my windows and mac systems
the cmd prompt on windows is so hard to configure mingw on
idk im just bitter
but mac is just very convenient
what if u wanted to code on your phone and stuff, u can directly upload files to the cloud and have ur mac be able to do stuff from there
if u have an iphone
i see but what about like window applications which my uni requires can i use bootcamp on mac to run windows applications etc
true
that comes in handy i use most things apple so might be convenient i guess thus wanted to stay in the apple ecosystem
idk if u can lol
u might be
never did that before
the air is fanless that's the only main difference
oh damn
also is ur mac gonna be general purpose as well
mine is like that
my windows device is like all programming stuff
u gotta tell me what else u gonna use the laptop for
why not go linux
well ye i'll be doing most things including coding on my mac
like you mean applications?
yeah
is it just gonna be for school
or is it gonna be something u wanna keep long-term for urself
i currently have a macbook air i might use that for like browsing and the mac pro solely for uni
and yes it would also be a long term investment i imagine myself using it even after my degree
ill do some research
but why not just use the air
if u said u can use bootcamp for that
i would use the air certainly but its a 2016 MacBook and its quite slow I've already tried running boot camp on it before but it wasn't able to run it sadly otherwise i would happily use my mac air
allg thanks
ohh alr
are u gonna game on ur laptop too
nope not looking to use it for gaming
oh ok
ur pretty flexible
macbooks have pretty reliable long-lasting batteries, have nice displays, and u can easily transfer files from ur old mac
u can go linux to because their distributions are open-sourced
download any software there tbo
linux might be more useful for u if ur very technical
ye that's true they are quite reliable in those fields
I'd like to add that you can run Windows programs on Linux with Wine
I don't think you need to be very technical
macs are well known for being able to run linux right
The joy of linux is you can buy an old laptop and get the most out of it by installing a light distro
ic
*unix
wait whats the difference between them
ye ig thats for me to decide but idk macbooks are more on the pricey side
they are pricey
kinda regret having one
u good
Basically making two chocolate cakes but putting different icing on top of each
is ubuntu a light distro
ic
indeed
thanks
For me it's refurbished thinkpads+linux forever
Is thinkpad good?
Reliable, strong and easy to repair
yeah
cheap as well
damn i used to think they're not that good
lmao fair
Whew, this is an old one
eheh, it has been retired as it was a little slow for what I needed
It wouldn't happen to have the IBM logo on the cover would it ?
no it's the x61 so lenovo and not IBM
the original battery died and the greencell replacement ones kept letting me down
nice kb
yeahh that was the newer hhkb they realised, the classic pro or whatever. I bought it on a whim but stuck with my original pro 2
Not sure why but I prefer it. The classic pro felt like a better built key board. But there is something about the pro 2 that keeps me coming back to it
Any recommendations for a not too bad, relatively cheap wireless mechanical keyboard ?
Sure that sounds contradictory but thought I'd still try asking.
haha, I don't know much about wireless kbs tbh
I think the tricky thing about mech keybs is that switch choice is like 99% of your selection criteria. And without trying a bunch it's really hard to pick
ideally you could find a local meet up and try other peoples' keyboards
otherwise do what I did which was buy one, try it out, and then sell it if you didn't like it
Where did you sell it?
I'm always skeptical about selling stuff
ebay
I use ebay a fair bit for 'hobby' stuff
otherwise you can look at subreddits/forums
I use gear trade subreddits for my outdoor hobby stuff
Alright, I'll check that out.
Thank you for your insights
Do you know what switches you're looking for?
I don't know much about switches honestly, but I don't need them to be silent or top tier
There are different kinds of sounds
tactile, clicky, and a few others I recommend you looking for what sound you want
I do not recommend blue or brown MX 😄
I personally have red switches.
Red or blue switches...
Aren't they optical or something?
arrghh dats cute
Blue switches are hella clicky and can distract you from your work 😄 ngl
switches are like the source of the sound
I can send you a video in dm
I have red too
I can send you a vid on how red sounds on my keyboard
I paid 150 euros but its well worth it
especially because it's my job
Hey guys just a quick announcement for pple who took the EC council CEH cert or are currently preparing for it. please please DM me I have some queries thanks in advance.
I unironically really liked browns
but now am topre4life
Hahahahah browns are terrible, everybody hates them 😄
shrugging.gif
I loved them haha
wouldn't go back now I've been on topre for so long
hahaha i always wanted one with numpad
@boreal skiff it must be D
i have a 60 %
cherry mx reds
its very nice but i need to mod my keyboard because it has that weird metallic sound
i wish i got silent reds
or the akko cream ons
ones
reds all the way
thank you @iron carbon
Can somebody explain me what "Code is unreachable" means. I basically copied a code into my .py file. Code above is fine but everything beneath is marked as unreachable by pylance. Is the identation wrong?
You would have to show the code to give you an exact answer, but your program stops before you ever reach the code. So maybe you have an exit() or return that always occurs before the code that's unreachable
I know this was yesterday but pretty sure my Keychron C1 (cheapest option for $60 USD) has blue key caps
PRO: they have a really satisfying clicky sound to them and tactile responsive feeling
CON: since they are loud it can be distracting from audio and isn't ideal when I don't want others such as family to hear me typing.
Guys, i’m trying to block twitter on my mac using the terminal command. I did 127.0.0.1, tab then www.twitter.com, wrote to the file then closed it, flushed the cache yet i’m still able to use twitter.com on chrome even after flushing my history, reopening chrome.
same thing happened to me on Windows way back when I tried editing the hosts file @steady moon I have been thinking lately that the best solution to website blocking may be a Pi Hole DNS Server if you have a Raspberry Pi, although I have not tried it and it may be overkill.
I understand that some fields might not interest you, but please be considerate of other people
Your comments in this room as well as others are neither productive nor appropriate.
Please find it in yourself to fix that.
hah, relax
Do you have any more info on the approach you're taking? It sounds similar to editing the hosts file
I'm not super familiar with OSX but typing "127.0.0.1 www.titter.com" into terminal won't do much I reckon
It looks like editing the /etc/hosts file works the same on OSX
With mine to be safe I entered all variations of the url
This is what I have in my /etc/hosts for twitter:
127.0.0.1 www.twitter.com 127.0.0.1 twitter.com 127.0.0.1 https://www.twitter.com
ahhh i see now
i’m sure if i add twitter.com along with the https I should be able to succeed
unfortunately it didn’t work
that’s so strange
because i’ve done it with so many other websites and it worked successfully
i usually do (domain name).com and then www.(domain name).com
How could I achieve faster typing ?
My current max is around 30wpm, on a membrane keyboard (yeah I know 😅 ), Azerty layout, numpad...
I'm pretty used to it but can't seem to get any faster
Are there any good websites/apps to practice ?
yeah i’ll post a link
this helped me a lot
it has a variety of levels for free from very beginner to advanced
after you sign up u should do the placement test first so you don't have to do all the levels right away]
This website is amazing !
Thanks a lot 🙏
As for your previous question, their solution seems pretty specific, you might want to stick to your site blocker, or even better a pi hole like @.jadenh mentioned
Anybody know anything about creating your own pirate radio station?
As in playing music off your own music collection, and having other people connect to it through a car radio?
oh yes
definitely
especially because any time you try to access the site on any browser, incognito or private it’ll never go through because it’s blocked via your computer’s localhost
very effective
azerty? very interesting
do you touch type?
AZERTY is the standard in France, otherwise I'd pick QWERTZ over QWERTY any time of day
just to confirm you are using sudo [insert text editor] /etc/hosts to edit the file and add these lines?
when learning to type faster increasing your accuracy is better then just focusing on speed
you want to work on reducing errors, after that increases in speed come naturally
one of the best tips I ever was received: If you have to back space more than twice you just use ctrl+delete to remove the whole word and retype it
that alone increased my wpm
Yep I already use it 👍
niooce
This is the website I've used in the past
Teaching the world to type at the speed of thought! Typing lessons that work.
that is fun indeed
yeah man it's a great site, and I really enjoy all the data/insights it provides you
I mean yeah, it show a fair progress
If you tap away at that for like 30 mins a day you will make great progress
just heads up, what normally happens is fast progress is made until you hit something of a plateau, then progress slows down a fair bit. Stick with it through that stage as you've probably hit your 'natural typing speed' from then on you need to practice to get better.
By the way guys, Windows Power Toys has a feature for DNS blocking
its basically editing hosts file'
thanks!
hey guys i fixed my pc i just reinstalled windows and i successfully got dual boot to work
That aint a dumb phone thats smartphone with keypad
Dumb phone are just meant fir calls and sms, some allow whatsapp but what the point if using meta services lol
Just get something like a nokia
Its just for calls so dont spend much on it
Yeah
Idk what type of plan you got there but get a full years prepaid plan
you could look at feature phones like the nokia 8110 4g
basically a dumb phone with whatsapp
The best phone in my hearth will always be the Nokia 3410; virtually indestructible, long battery life, snake II, fire ringtones, doubles as a self-defense weapon, and does what you would expect from a phone.
+You're certain it won't distract you from studying
android or ios guys?
android
Android
why?
Personally I'm not a huge fan of apple products in general. I will caveat this by saying I haven't used an apple product in ages. But I feel like you can have a higher degree of control over your device if it runs android
Cause I can use f droid and I personally dont care about eco systems I can install new ROMs if i need to and IK apple chips are powerfull but if all that power just for some olive garden shit then no one cares tbh
with android your phone belongs to you
Very true
Any exercises python?
Yep, it's a Compaq V50 Color Monitor
I haven't found any on ebay though, so you might want to do some research on that
Note that you should expect the prices to range from 50 to 160+ bucks
For a cheaper but resembling alternative, maybe the Compaq S700, which is also larger, as well as rare
Hope that helped, good luck with your research
Thank you sm!
anytime dude
@eager olive do you know the typical size of monitors like that? I think 19" is the same size as my desk when I measured a CRT so I can't use them because I only have so much space on desk and in room.
it sucks too because I wanted to use a CRT for Melee.
what android launcher does james use on his hisense touch ereader?
Minimal I think
@gray mesa look up "Before launcher" on google play store
as for the one on the ereader I'm not sure because hes showed many different devices. I just remember seeing Before used when he shows off his phone.
Its "O launcher" i think
I'll re-check in a bit I believe this one is 14"
Nvm, I gave the manual another read:
-This is a 15" monitor
-it uses VGA or SVGA
-screen res is 1024 × 768
-it works on both 110-120V and 220-230V outlets
Let me know if you need anything else
generally, how many hours does it take to learn basic LaTeX
What's LaTeX ?
not long
a typesetting system for publishing docs
it's f***ing amazin imo
I mean I just need to convert my physics and maths formulas into pdf
the basics are quick to pick up, but it will seems overly complicated when you first start
you can probably just use an online tool to generate the LaTeX code
and save learning it for another time
I'm not sure, I've never used one, but I'm sure there is one out there
is LaTeX similar to that?
something like that
ummm not sure, never used mathjax
I don't publish formulas often
I use LaTeX mainly for it's simple reference managing and the fact I can inbed my R code into the doc I am writing
plus org-mode can just export straight to LaTeX
so I write formulas here, copy them and paste into MS Word and then print them out?
looks like it'll work
Thanks a lot, you are very helpful :)
no sweat
if you are going to continue in academics or whatever latex is worth investing some time in imo
yes will learn it before going to uni
I'm guessing maths is the sort of area you'll be studying in?
I live in India and my exam result will decide what I'll be studying
yeah :)
what might be worth looking at first, or now, is using a reference manager
it helps to organise your reading and means that citing sources while writing becomes much simpler
but that might not be useful for your subject
I like to write about this kind of stuff so I'll surely look into it
wicked
Guys anyone know any coding platforms to write your code besides git and code chef
Visual Studio is an old yet reliable classic
Okay thankss👍😊
No problem.
I could also name IntelliJidea (not sure about the spelling) but Visual Studio already has most of its functionalities ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Okayy will try using it thankyou 🤗
Use vim

Vim macros make life easy
key binding are always a learning curve but once they are in your muscle memory it's so smooth
windows' alt codes
yup that's the one i was looking for, thanks!
heya i wasn’t sure where to ask about this but can anyone help me with this? i’m a total beginner haha
also, it won’t stop centering even if i add \end{center} and no mistake is indicated,,, can anyone help?
you're using \centering rather than \begin{center}
which is why \end{center} won't end it
I don't quite understand what the other issue can you elaborate?
in this case i attempted using centering because after endcenter it would not stop centering but the same problem arose here
t says illegal unit of measure
can you send me the texfile
I find it hard to work out without being able to play with it
of course, i’ll send in in a mo
no sweat
I learned more of the C++ stuff back in the day but I found it seems to be easier to use java without errors for Leetcode. dunno why ...
Java easier ?
@eager olive thanks for answering earlier. I think that type of CRT is better because it would fit on my desk. The remaining problem is that I need space for my keyboard. I think the fact that I don't have arm space for arms to rest while typing on keyboard is a drawback so It makes the CRT setup pointless.
I rather use brainfuck than java lol
does anyone know how to limit youtube use in pc? already delete it from my phone but i still get drag to it on pc.
self control
also use site blocker extensions
ones that allow scheduled use of sites
an app like stayfocused can block youtube
otherwise spend less time around your phone
if you need to study put it some where else
haha CRTs are cute but a massive inconvenience
And if you build a PC, put the monitor away, because the static won't be good
(Happened to an old colleague, he retired not to long after that)
@eager olive any other phones you recommend? i;m into the candy bar style of phones more than flip phones
jus copying the message here
Just curious, what exactly do you mean by "candy bar"
like this, the nokia 6300
Well, still in the Nokia group, maybe the 8110 4g ?
It's more recent and likely cheaper but that might depend where you live
i wouldn't mind any brand
Yup I get you, but the of feature phones world is pretty much dominated by Nokia, like, the 6300 is also pretty good
i might get the 8110 and use my iphone as an ipod
do you use the hotspot? or does it even have one?
not sure, never used it for the tbh
the nokia site seems to say it does
I basically just use it to send voice messages on whatsapp
you're in EU right?
yee
well it's funny
I have a google pixel 6a
that I use for travel
everyone said it would work in the states
but I activated my sim in a US phone
then put it in the pixel
and it worked fine
that was AT&T
even the dudes in the AT&T shop were saying it wouldn't work
LOL
might just try the 6300 and if it doesn't work oh well move on to something eles
feature
nice
typing on those keypads is a pain
which is why I ended up using voice messages the whole time
it's almost like having a walkie talkie haha
yea i mainly want to use it for call and text, i'm not really in a lot of group chats
and i hope it has a hotspot just in case
i see, i've just been reading some reviews and some people are saying it doesn't work and there's other problems with the phone so i've been hesitant lately, but $70 isn't too much for my budget
or i'll go with the 225
I do ~200% of typing practice daily, but my wrists start hurting a bit, any ways to prevent that ?
Alrighty
I've got a rolled up bit of material that I use as a wrist rest
but you want to 'lightly float' you wrists
iirc
are you keyboard and chair at the right heights @eager olive
yup !
anyone majoring in electronics engineering? precisely has experienced in learning Assembly language for pic microcontroller?
tad need of guidance or tips
Hello, anyone here has a solidworks app ?
anyone here know C?
what's up
here
i am very new to C
heres my problem
why is radius not printing in main?
it says I haven't defined it but I declared my function and defined it in my function? i think
ok so, yes you have it defined in your testMath function, but unless you declare a global variable, other functions cannot access that variable. this is why your main function cannot print radius, because there is no variable declared within main to reference
does that make sense?
I can clarify further
bruh, try to change the language before it's too late
C is too hard to get into programming

hey my printer is full of pages
but its still showing load tray
and not printing
anyone know how to solve this?
look if there is a lot of dust in some sensors or ripped parts.
i opened it and there wasn't
i think there is problem with the paper it is asking for
specifically plain letter paper
but I have done printing with the A4 plain paper on this printer
only today it is showing this error
Sometimes this happens when you overfill it, the max limit is often ambiguous
for example, my printer can't be over half-full, or it will do just that
Btw what are you guys' average wpm ?
i thought so, and then I emptied it and put only 5-6 pages
wasn't making :(
What's the model ?
sigh It's you again... my old enemy... Hewlett-Packard
I had a similar model
Will see what I can find
Thank You ✨
So a common recommendation that doesn't require you to dismantle your printer is:
-Turn it on
-Unplug it for one minute
-Re-plug it
That should reset your printer, HP's paper issues are always a mystery
This didn't work :(
I think I'll need to go to repair shop for this
hey guys i have a huge Question in terms of concentration loss on phone. Sometimes when im on phone im playing around with my homescreen (im on iphone) there appears to be a blurr on top of the apps and all of a sudden my brain starts to recognize again, it comes back to live and the concentration is immediatly there again because my brain got fully blacked out from the sharp looking apps and texts. So the solution is maybe to prevent yourself from getting stuck on phone with a blur Filter that u could activate or deactivate
Im writing this down here to tech related help because maybe somebody has an idea on how to integrate this, maybe via extension or via app or distribution, i dont actually know a good solution or maybe there is already something like this and im just missing it out. Also i know that u cant expect Apple or Samsung or any type of Media Producer to integrate it because they want screen time! Tell me what do u think guys!!!
i cant send a screen so you have to imagine it to be blurry or try it yourself on your iphone (i dont know if this is also possible on android), Tutorial on IOS: activate phone then when u on home screen swipe lo the left but hold it between the widget section and the first home screen section)
i u dont see potential pls ignore and sorry for the interruption🫶 🍀
what was the command to select the word while typing 😅
| $\vec{a}$ \pm $\vec{b}$ | \le |$\vec{a}$| + |$\vec{b}$|
i'm writing this in LaTeX
but the vectors aren't showing up
Sorry I didn’t reply to this until now, but yes you did help I understood and ended up finishing my assignment.
can anyone help me understand some concept regarding Numerical methods?
Heeey maybe a bit off topic but can anyone recommend me a LapTop up to 1500$ for business and school usage, 13-14” display and with a good battery life.. thanks 😁🫱🏻🫲🏽
anyone who knows how to solving this, please dm to guide me. I need help :((
id say range over each columns and compare between them the lenght of the strings, then append the max length (int) in the int array you return in the func
macbooks
Or a high speced thinkpad, like the P series
Hi does anyone know what type of motor this is?
And what do you call the two points that are soldered?
dc motor
and the soldered points are called positive and negative terminals
refer this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DC_motor
Thank you @glad wyvern ^^

hi any font-end dev here
@fresh spadehttps://dontasktoask.com/
Guys, i have a very noobie question and have just started python
this code works in pycharm but doesn't work in visual studio
instead gives this error
why is that so?
this is how it looks like in visual studio and it looks like the variables are recognized? idk '-'
quick tip, you can send code in discord by putting your text between these accents:
```
your text here
```
then you can add diff and add a + before a line you want to highlight in green:
```diff
your text here
+This line is green!
```
which gives:
name = input('What is your name?' )
color = input('What is your favorite color? ')
print( 'Hi ' + name )
+print('Omg my fav colour is also '+ color)
also, you used " instead of ' in the 4th line of code
dont u have to use "" for strings, instead of ' ?
not in this context
u can install ad ons that help you visualize typos (this type of error)
hold on I got something
nvm I can't find it
ok found it
I thought that " was used for strings and ' is used for characters
It's been at least a year since I've touched anything python related so I'm not sure.
Ahh thankyou so much, i'll keep this in mind next time
Np
Got an article on formatting somewhere, want me to send it ?
Sure man, thankyou
Here you go dude

Hello, does anyone know how James hooks up his computer to his old monitor? I'm considering doing something similar if it's within my means, but I cannot find information on doing so
adapters mostly
his old monitor might have vga or dvi
but most of his tech (old thinkpads/desktops) have those ports too
so its simple as just connecting them
for anything modern i assume he uses and adapter
Check what port the crt has
If your devices dont have that port get an adapter
His monitor is a Compaq V50, and it uses VGA/sVGA
anyone here know c
I don't remember enough, but this website's really good for learning, better give it a shot
kk ty
theres also a cracked channel called codevault, got me through first year C course with a 4.0 just form his vids
@scenic oriole ty will look into it
thing is
i dont struggle w the concepts
i think my prof is just insane
he's literally an op
asks for a double
doesn't teach you how to scan for double's
like bro
even though i know thats pretty basic, when compiling the code ran fine I just didnt get the correct number i was looking for and it took me like 30 min to figure out u cant %f a double in scanf
or maybe im just slow
at what wpm count is your typing considered fast ?
in my opinion +80 wpm
if you can get to +100 👏
you got this 💪. remember to take breaks from time to time
i remember my dad giving me a typing program to follow when i was younger 😂
nitrotype the good old days
Nah the small things will come to you after you do a bunch of practice, theres still small stuff like that I get stuck on but it trains u to get good at googling lol
glgl
i learned how to type fast by playing games 💀
I know the feeling
I started learning English by playing Minecraft a long time ago.
My ass couldn't change the language (because I was totally clueless) so, I had to improvise, adapt, and overcome.
The first word I learned was pumpkin.
Heyyy so I need help
When I open .html text doc in vs code it open as folder with no extension like simple text file without any extension and I don't know what to do it not runin doing whatsoever
This happens like every time time and I give up
how to make work flow setup like james using org mode emac etc plz guide me
which layout?
Azerty
I like colemak, but dropped it 'cos vim (keyboard text editor) shortcuts get hecked, so I stuck with good ol' qwerty
colemak ?
Ah
yeh
French?
yup
It's English basically, but the keys are placed in more optimal spots for the comfort of your hands
Most common keys are placed in the homerow
There's also Dvorack
ppl learn those layouts to suppousidy improve typing speed
And comfort xd
sounds like that'd be worth a shot for sure
thanks !
No problem
Tho it will feel hard at first, like you're rewiring your brain
I'mma share a nice website that made the transition smoother
Teaching the world to type at the speed of thought! Typing lessons that work.
This should help!
Maybe do like 30min a day, and you'll get there ^^
new letters will be introduced as you build better muscle memory with the ones you're practicing
yup, I use it already
(2h a day, yeah)
didn't know it supported dvorak though
Oh, yeh, it supports 4 layouts
workman, dvorack, colemak, and qwerty
one warning about dvorak
keyboard shortcuts are all screwed up xD
so if u wanna keep em', then colemak triea to accomplish the same while keeping most of the shortcuts same
same. I got a good score in one of my vocabulary tests when they asked for wood, ore etc 😄 a bit later i started playing multiplayer which helped a lot!
hey guys any recommendations for a course for git
At least as an introduction, I like Mosh courses
thoughts 🤔 (217usd)
for the price, this is pretty decent. however, if you could spend a bit more for more ram, it's worth it to save you money down the road
Only eh thing besides the RAM is the 2 core CPU
I’m not a thinkpad expert tho
@flint ravine
will just be used for studying
neither me lol
i'm just broke and this thinkpad cult looks very convincing XD
I’m bias to a T480 since I just got one

I learned english the same exact way, I played on many OP prison break servers and to communicate with mfs I had to learn English. First word I learned was shovel.
Those are pretty solid
Saw a couple videos about it, and I really like it
I’m replacing the HDD with an SSD in mine today
I’ll let everyone know my thoughts after I get it set up
hey guys can you recommend an ereader?
id love one thats really simple. i usually read novels. so i think 16 gb would be more than enough (maybe even less) and it should be a little bigger
budget is open end although i feel like i dont need an expensive one ^^
I use a boox leaf 2 and love it
@regal oxide
I like having physical turn buttons, I also just download stuff off of libgen or use tachiyomi
It’s kinda pricey for an ereader but I figured since I wanna read a lot it was worth it
I also considered a kobo libra
thank you very much:)
ooo actually, I need an ereader rec as well. I'm looking for something that's around the size of my ipad 11", has note-taking capabilities, and can allow me to read textbooks, academic papers, novels, and manga - 100% need android so I can port notes to one-note or smth. also don't mind getting 2 devices as long as 1 is small, and 1 is big, so any suggestions would be fantastic
Ideally anywhere from 32-128gb storage or expandable, usb-c is a must, and budget is anywhere from 2-400 usd
ipad size?
400 usd sounds reasonable xd
note-taking capabilities too?
I think you could find one, but it's probably expensive
there's one with note-taking but not too big
there's one where it's ipad size but has no note-taking capabilites
if you want both, it's probs gonna cost you more than an ipad + apple pencil, so just get that really
ereaders' only benefit is less eye strain
which, at least for me who has poor vision and dry eyes, it ain't doing it for me, lol
I would say I feel scammed, but hey it's light-weight, has built-in dictionary, and battery life is no joke
So I can't complain
Also it's just not gonna be as responsive as if you'd use an ipad
At that point, I'd use real paper
I don't like being that guy, but what suits your needs most seems to be an actual tablet, and you could get a fairly good one for 400 bucks
Exactly what I said, yeh
Agreed 👍
If you want something cheap and nice, the tab s6 lite is a steeeel
I got a refurbished galaxy tab 3 lite for 10 bucks
it's mostly obsolete, but it reads ebooks, can take notes, last maybe a day on normal use.
For that price I can't complain
Damn, sweet deal
anyone know how to turn on "relative line numbers" in Visual Studio 2019 or does it no exist? (Im using VSVim since I don't get the default keybindings. ChatGPT and YouTube aren't helping.)
been eyeing listings for the s6 lite for just under/around 200€.. people seem to only be recommending it - so i guess i should go for it?
Heck yeh! ✨ I do recommend you check out some reviews first to see if it suits your needs.
It's really good, light-weight, fine battery life, and good enough note-taking or even drawing exp. Should be enough for mostly whatever you wanna do on it, like reading and notes.
For 200€, it's the best you'll get for that price 😄
Its pretty good but I end up writing really large on a small screen. but on actual paper I write smaller
dont think one note is the best on it, I use Samsung Notes and the Sketching app
is good for media consumption and light gaming
A good program I use for notes is Obsidian. (on PC it is the best because of extensions) Typing is just easier. I haven't tried taking notes for the textbook I'm assigned yet so I don't know. It just takes one hour for each page of each module. if you try writing notes by hand.
lovely! that's pretty much what i want to use it for - digital "handwritten" notes (+ study apps etc) and possibly some amateur drawing
the stylus you can get replacements for $20 on amazon that comes with tips. the tips break easily within a few weeks of writing notes if you are like me
thats the biggest flaw I've found.
the replacement pens also are made of a slightly different material than the one that comes with the tablet.
nothing deal breaking though.
i looked into some other brands n models but seems i can get the best deal for the s6 lite, so i'm really happy to see good reviews
