without coding (or no-code, low-code):

  • Low cost, dont waste your time
  • Easy to build, easy to use
  • Everything already setup for you
  • No bug
  • Uncontrolled
  • Can only build simple UI, simple function like CRUD
  • WordPress is the best example
    With coding:
  • High cost, need to spend time (alot)
  • Must always keep it up with new technologies
  • Have to do everything (aka fullstack)
  • Can controll your process
  • Can build fascinating, animation UI and complex function like Recommendation System, Face Detection, etc

Zulu builds of the JDK use the official OpenJDK's source code, so I don't think there are any practical differences as highlighted here - https://stackoverflow.com/questions/61335109/what-is-the-difference-between-azul-openjdk-zulu-openjdk-and-openjdk#:~:text=So%2C no%2C basically no practical,Zulu Community and Zulu Enterprise.

Any ZuluJDK build filtered for MacOS with Arm 64-bit architecture should support the m1 chip, as partially touched upon here - https://www.azul.com/newsroom/azul-announces-support-of-java-builds-of-openjdk-for-apple-silicon/

Bellman-Ford can be used to detect negative-weight cycles in a graph, but since you know there aren't any in your graph, you can exploit this, since you then would know that you don't have to do any iterations to look for such negative-weight cycles

Hello, I have a question to people who are programmers/IT specialists I want to start programming, but I don’t know how to start. I want to learn html, css and JavaScript. I know a lot about html and css but unfortunately not much of JS. I don’t know how to learn it efficiently. I started a codecademy course but I think that’s not enough, I don’t know how to start a new project and I just feel overwhelmed with everything. I have a few ideas of projects, but I don’t know how to start it? Should I watch tutorial of this project on YouTube? Like I want to learn as much as I can, but I don’t want copy other people. I tried to copy something and understand, there is no problem but if I want to create something on my own then it gets a lot of harder. I don’t know how to learn it good and effective.

proud rapids
proud rapids
# pulsar egret Hello, I have a question to people who are programmers/IT specialists I want to ...

im assuming you don't have others to do a group project with, so I'm gonna formulate my advice around that. Watching a tutorial on youtube is a great place to start. If you can copy things and understand, you can take a baby step towards making a new component on your own for that same project. If you understand how the copied component works, then it would be possible for you to write another similarly structured component. You'll just have to google all the necessary syntax that you don't know, debug and test it out until it works. It can be frustrating but that's part of the fun.

Overall creating a full-stack project on your own takes time to learn, don't be discouraged! Do try to expand your network in whatever way you can, make some friends who can work on a group project with you, give you deadlines, hold you accountable and offer you help when needed. That was how I learned most of my JS/web dev knowledge in a pretty short period of time. I never really formally learned javascript in any way, just went straight into writing code for a project. I do have a good grasp of programming languages like C++, Java and stuff in general so I'm sure that was helpful for learning JS fast. So I think if you're just interested in web dev and JS, it's worth it to take time to formally study JS with online courses, there's a few other resources aside from codeacademy that can explain stuff to you. Edx.org is good for formal learning, but can be a little dull, just power through lol

pulsar egret

# pulsar egret Hello, I have a question to people who are programmers/IT specialists I want to ...

here's the thing with programming; you can be very talented at learning new things, but programming just takes a lot of time and practice, there are no shortcuts. my suggestion is to just keep watching educational videos and try to stay out of something called "tutorial hell", which is where you only follow tutorials on how to code things instead of going through the pain of building your own program and debugging it

#

i like using websites like codewars and hackerrank to practice my problem solving skills and whatnot

oh and ofc its important to look up solutions to possible problems or bugs, just make sure that you genuinely understand how the solutions work so that you can learn from it

What I can suggest you is to choose a course that's known for being good (usually a paid course) and stick to it, go and start your research from what you learn there. I can recommend you a channel called Web Dev Simplified, that guy helps beginners to get started with web development and I believe he has a paid course to start from scratch, I didn't take the course though but you can dig into it.

It looks like you have a function that moves characters "down" once and you need to make a function that moves every character in a string down a certain number of times

#

So I'd start by figuring out how to move a character down n times

#

Probably some kind of loop

#

And you want to do that for every character in the string so you'd probably make another loop for that

#

So you'll probably want to loop over every character in the string

#

And have a loop inside that to do shift() n times

Hello, I am a C# software developer I've been trying to update one of my projects from .NET 4.3 to .NET 6.0. It's been going okay so far, except I keep running into this error for my unit tests: CS0433 The type 'TestClassAttribute' exists in both 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.QualityTools.UnitTestFramework, Version=10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' and 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.TestPlatform.TestFramework, Version=14.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a. I understand why it's having this error. It's because the using Microsoft.VisualStudio.TestTools.UnitTesting;
import is bringing in both libraries, which share the same keywords. I did some research and turns out the QualityTools is a weaker version of the TestPlatform, so I tried to find ways to get rid of the former. The only solution I came up with to do so was to delete the .dll file from my project, which i did, but it didn't change anything. This was the forum I found the possible solution from: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/52542035/type-testclassattribute-exists-in-both-microsoft-visualstudio-qualitytools-un. But the author is so vague with the word "drop". That I can't find exactly what I'm supposed to do to remove the library. I have spent about 3 hours trying to update this project to no avail. I will send the link to the project's repo if anyone wants to try it for themselves or just look at the files inside of the project. BTW I'm using VS 2022 since that seems to be the only version of VS that supports .NET Framework v 6.0. https://github.com/KTANE-Solver/KTANE-Solver . Thank you in advance.

Well, it's not that they're "better" for programming as pika said, let me explain 3 points
1- pretty much every Linux OS comes with programming languages pre installed, so you don't take any time installing them in the beginning, you could update them with the package tools like apt for debian+ubuntu or pacman if you're using Arch
2- Linux is much better for performance, I used Linux on 4GB RAM laptop and it was pretty good
3- Linux is much better for security, any malware that's targeting windows can't affect Linux users

But it's not better for programming, you can code on windows as good as you can code on Linux, it's personal preference

steep grove
#

It's not necessarily better, it depends on what you want to do. I've developed on both UNIX and Windows (to a lesser extent). Some general thoughts:

UNIX was designed from the ground up to be a multi-user environment. You, as a user, can only do certain things, and the premise is that there will be protections in place to prevent you from doing something that will destroy the system. It was designed for institutions, where a group of white-hat-admins could make sure the system was working properly, and the know-nothing users could have a playground.

Windows was designed around the idea that a single user uses the system at a time, and can control everything. It was designed for a consumer, who might buy the latest-and-greatest things, or have some ancient, unsupported software that they were still trying to run. The owner of the system might not know much about how to configure the system properly, so there's lots of potential for mis-configurations and problems.

UNIX is great for the super-user tools that it offers by default, which are a lot more powerful than Windows default toolset. There are a TON of tools for Windows to make it more powerful, but it doesn't do that on its own-- you've got to install those tools.

Additionally, support for Linux/UNIX online is great. Linux is open-source (as are the majority of its tools), so chances are someone, somewhere, has solved your problem before, and likely posted about it online. Windows? Maybe, maybe not. You've got a lot of "normal" people out there using Windows, who don't really know what they're talking about, which makes finding answers harder, even when the answers ARE out there.

analog matrix
#

yeah pretty much what jim said

#

If you're interested in getting into Linux though, I recommend the book "How Linux Works" it's a great book, it also talks about good stuff, like networking and virtualization.. it'll give you a good idea about a lot of things not only Linux

steep grove
#

Learning Linux is a valuable skill, even if you choose to develop on Windows. Most software nowadays runs in the cloud, and most cloud applications run on a UNIX stack. So it never hurts to learn, and will come in handy some day :)

also, don't let the things you don't know stop you, if you got into developing websites (backend with django), you're definitely going to need to learn about some other stuff like SQL. if you don't know SQL, don't let it stop you, start learning about, and so on for other stuff

#

If you got into building networking tools, you're gonna need to learn about TCP/IP and the difference between IPv4/IPv6 and how you could build a simple TCP/UDP client/server using the socket library in the programming language you're learning about. etc.

Learn about the stuff you don't know and don't let not knowing about them stop you then you'll find out they're pretty simple as soon as you learn about them

So if you haven't decided a career path yet, you could start with anything just to pick up the concepts.

I always recommend starting with Python because it helps a lot in automation even if you're into android development for example and planning to learn Java/Kotlin you could still use Python in your day2day life to automate simple tasks, like reply to emails or scraping a website for example.

But you could do the same with C#,Java, and most modern programming languages.

#

And for the effective way to learn coding, take a look at this message

steel crescent
#

i personally started with java and it was also fairly easy to learn with.

#

but hey, if you're up for the challenge of learning c++ as your first language, thats a big flex imo

and one more thing that i will say; coding is going to be hard no matter what, especially when you start. There are no shortcuts or anything, the process is a lot of trial and error until you finally understand something

C++ is pretty good, understanding memory, game development, and it's quite necessary if you're into exploit development (memory corruption bugs like buffer overflows, etc). Imo I think making it your default os and not sideloaded or virtual os will help you. Do everything in linux. Try doing normal stuff thru terminal instead of ui. You will learn commands faster that way.
Thats how i learned it. Never used any specific course or vid tbh

#

Start from basic commands 😄

#

I have no idea what would you actually wanna learn, it depends on a lot things, from init system, Desktop environment (Or if you use a window manager) to navigate system using Terminal.

#

I suggest you should start use it as normal to get familiar with it, unless you have to learn it for employment or something like that.

#

You should give Vim a try too. I would say it's the best Terminal-integrated Text Editor in Linux (According to my own experience :D)

steel crescent
#

ohhh ok i see

#

yea trying to manage your system with the linux terminal instead of the gui is probably the best way to learn basic things

#

from there you can work your way up pretty easily

leaden pumice
#

Haha, there is a tip, you should open your app using Terminal, a kinda good way to find out what is going wrong there and yea, this tip is really a life-saver.

#

You just have to type package-name in Terminal.

#

vlc, brave etc

#

Just fall in love with Linux because of that. You can definitely find the log file for checking error. I just find it kinda annoying and time-consuming.

Linux is a kernel too, simply an operating system's core.

You can probably search Unix on Wikipedia, lemme find it.

Unix is an operating system, not really a complete system like nowadays, but rather a Terminal-based system, which is aimed for advanced user (it's specified that it was intended to use INSIDE the Bell System)

MacOS based on this "Unix" too.

Most Linux users, even me, feel intimidating when it talks about Terminal.

analog matrix
#

Also when i=1, in your algorithms class do you consider 1 as the first item in the array?
Because if it's the first item (which is considered the first item in the array in most algorithms books) what are you comparing it to? there isn't anything before it
Also if the array consists of 50 items, you should do the same thing to the end of the array, reduce 1 to be 49, because there isn't any number after the last item

#

Consider this array, A = [1,3,2,5,10,5,9,18,9,10,11,11], it should print the 3 first cases and the last case is false.

analog matrix
#

Coming back to this, I actually don't know if you're using an array A to find this sequence in the above picture, OR producing this sequence yourself,

So if it's producing the sequence you gotta remove the if statement and just produce it,
gonna be something like

Sum = A[i-1] + A[i+1]
print(A[i-1],Sum,A[i+1])

hello guys, i have a question regarding functions in js and react.

<View style={styles.containerTasks}>
          <FlatList data={listaTasks} alwaysBounceVertical={false}
            renderItem={(itemData) => (
              <View key={itemData.item.id} style={styles.taskContainer}>
                <Text>{itemData.item.text}</Text>
                <Button title="Elimina" onPress={() => deleteTask(itemData.item.id)} />
              </View>
            )}
          />
        </View>

I have this piece of code that renders all the different tasks, the problem tho is the function the button, which is to delete a certain task.
I don't understand why it only works if i use a callback function and it doesn't if i just call the function.

  <Button title="Elimina" onPress={deleteTask(itemData.item.id)} />

so, what's the difference between the two?
thank you so much!

Hi I’m having trouble with a c# problem. If anyone is able to help I would appreciate it big time!@everyone

jolly heath
# past wasp hello guys, i have a question regarding functions in js and react. ``` <View sty...

Basically, onPress expects a callback function that will be called when the event is triggered. If you call the function directly, onPress will actually receive the return value of deleteTask(itemData.item.id) because it's being executed when the component is rendering.

Being really simplistic, let's imagine that you have a component that has a prop called doSomethingEvent. When the event is triggered, the component behaviour is something like
const doSomethingEventHandler = (e) => props.doSomethingEvent()

You could read more about pass by reference and pass by value and it should help you understand more about callbacks in general and why they are so widely used

(Calculating Credit Limits) Paying debts becomes increasingly difficult during a recession, so many banks tighten their credit limits to avoid borrowing too large. Even one company has cut the credit limit of its customers to be much smaller than before. For example, if a customer has a credit limit of $2000, it is now $500. If a customer has a credit limit of $5000, it is now $1250. Create a program that can analyze the credit status of 3 customers at the company. Each customer has:

  • Credit limit before the recession.
  • Remaining pre-recession credit balance.

Hi guys, is there any of you using CRT also for studying/coding ?

#

Heard that it is not the best monitor for studying, but right now I am creating a second "mini" setup, right next to my main setup, because I have spare ntb on a small table with sitting on the floor.

I wanted it to be cheap but also stylish and I got myself a simple, "old" looking mechanical keyboard and all the lcd monitors that would be cheap wouldnt look any good

#

But CRT monitor would (according to me) look pretty neat, but I got some feedback, that it might not be best for learning/coding cause the image can be distorted

Hola friends, I need your advice please!

So I have a database and I want person x to be able to see who is responsible for task y. It´s about an approval process that I´m trying to digitize, but let´s start small: can I build a kind of mask in Excel, where you answer llike 4 questions and the approver is shown to me? Does this make sense xD Appreciate any tips and input.

THANKS ❤️

where you start doesn't matter, all you need to do is start at some point, understand how the languages work and why and you will be good

Ok so after giving it some thought, I think you can implement a real relational db using something like MySQL if u can and have the skills to do so.
The setup would maybe look something like this:

Setup two tables (1 for employees and 1 for tasks)
Employee schema could look like:

EMPL_ID (String)
EMPL_LASTNAME (String)
EMPL_FIRSTNAME (String)

and the tasks schema could look like:

TASK_ID (String)
TASK_NAME (String)
TASK_FINISH (Boolean)
TASK_ASSIGNEE (linked to employee table)
TASK_APPROVER (linked to employee table)

and then fill out the tables and do some SQL queries
for example

SELECT EMPL_ID, TASK_APPROVER WHERE TASK_ASSIGNEE == EMPL_ID AND TASK_FINISH == TRUE AND COUNT(TASK_FINISH) >= 4
#

If you stick with excel it may become very tedious and complicated

#

I haven't done SQL in a while but this would be a general idea on how to set it up. Hope that helps!

what's important is that you understand what is happening in the lecture and why those things are happening,
you should also code along with the professor, so just type the code out as well and create your own problems and solutions to those problems
while this may seem stupid and redundant, you need to get used to writing code and thinking about how code interacts, doing it directly as opposed to abstractly is the best way of doing so

(assuming I understood your question) you can do a for loop of the string which will break it into separate characters. from there u can do an if statement using the .isalpha() method to determine if its part of the alphabet or not

#

and if it does meet the if statement then increment the counter

Here is what I did. Hope that it helps!

Can someone explain why i get [4,6] as result when i do this? Also I know its in dutch, if u need any translation ask

#

wait nvm

#

I think you are removing the trues, instead of the falses

vocal lantern
#

wdym

bright pendant
#

what is your expected output?

vocal lantern
#

[]

#

Nothing

#

Wait i will explain. There are some math function in the top. And i have to take every number in lijst and check if the math function for that number is true for every function. Then i have to output that number

bright pendant
#

oh

#

if (f(n)) is False:
change that line to:
if not f(n):

#

try that

#

also you can copy a list by doing new_list = old_list.copy() or new_list = old_list[:]

#

but you shouldnt even do a copy

#

give me a min

vocal lantern
#

The thing is. I have to use the things i learned in school. They have not yet learned how to do the copy so i may not use it

#

I tried without a copy. But then another function would work. When i did the copy, it fixed it

bright pendant
#

okay give me a sec

#

did yo ulearn the filter command?

vocal lantern
#

Yes

#

Map, filter, list compri,

bright pendant
#

this works for me:

#

but if you learned the filter command its easier

vocal lantern
#

i didnt understand the filter command

#

My teacher doesnt teach anything. He just reads his powerpoints

bright pendant
#

its pretty simple, the filter command applys a filter to a list, so filter(isEven, list) returns all the even numbers of a list

#

so you can just do that

vocal lantern
#

If i do this i still get the weird result

#

Wtf is happening

bright pendant
#

its cuz line 110 is wrong

#

it should be list(filter(f, new_list))

#

not lilst(filter(f, lijst)

#

that should work

#

there is a better way to apply multiple filters if you have learned list comprehensions yet

vocal lantern
#

Yes

#

It works and yes i have learned list comprehensions

bright pendant
#

okay heres a more elegant way

vocal lantern
#

But i know how it works

bright pendant
#

give me a sec

vocal lantern
#

But still why didnt my first way not work

bright pendant
#

you can do it in one line

#

pretty simple

bright pendant
vocal lantern
#

Why didnt it work

bright pendant
#

you arent supposed to do list.remove in a for loop

vocal lantern
#

Oh okay thanks

bright pendant
#

instead of removing, you can also just add the positive results like this:

vocal lantern
#

OOoh, thats how u use the all command. I tried it allot of times cuz i knew there was a all command

bright pendant
#

yeah its really useful for what ur trying to do

drowsy shuttle
#

I want to study at home, but I can't because I can't understand and focus and I'm always afraid of the results. Is there any help, guys?

errant hull
#

See results as room for improvement

#

Maybe go to a different environment for when you study if you can't focus where you're currently studying at

vocal lantern
#

Can someone help, is there a way to make this easier. The while i know how it works but i cant use it, i can only use for loops

bright pendant
#

what is it supposed to do?

#

return a new list with the sum of the first n elements?

vocal lantern
#

The sum of the element before that element

#

So [n1,n2,n3,n4,n5] => [n1, n1+n2, n2+n3, n4+n5]

bright pendant
#

so the output should be 1,3,33,37?

#

for 1,2,30,4?

vocal lantern
#

No no, the output is correct

bright pendant
#

oh nvm

vocal lantern
#

it works

#

But i cant use the while command

#

And dont know how to put it in a for command

bright pendant
#

@vocal lantern

vocal lantern
#

Bruh

#

How didnt i think of that

bright pendant
#

let me know if you want me to explain the code

vocal lantern

MY GOD MAN if you are a programmer that uses C, I hate your guts, no joke.

errant hull

you should think of programming languages as tools

😉

errant hull

sorry let me add more

just in case if you're not trolling

#

Every programming language has a good use case.
for example javascript is fantastic for front end and back end web development.
For C, I believe its great for hardware stuff

Python is epic though. Its very versatile but for example when you have limited memory, you'll have to memory manage (which python cant do iirc)

i hate how python was made with my whole heart

switching from js, c++, c# to python was and is impossible for me since python has to do everything differently
