Hi! I wanted to start learning Japanese and I am an absolute beginner. But I am like totally confused on where to start or how to start learning it. So, does anyone know Japanese to get me through my confusion?
I recommend to first memorize both of the katakana and hiragana characters
Got it!
Hello Im finding a English speaking partner..Can anyone help?
hey sis i can help u with this one ! :>

Thanks! Can i add you as friend?😆
Yep... I'll be glad if you do so
hey, is there anybody there can help me translate this to german, it would appreciate it very much 🙂 "Hi, i'm a danish student who has chosen your city for my exam-project. It would be really helpful you would be able to spend a few minutes answering this questionnaire" btw 'you' is meant as pluralis and not singularis. 🙂
Hi guys ! what's the best way to develop my english skills ? in can read and understand well most of the words but when it comes to speaking and expressing my self i can't find words easily 😒 thank you !
@hard cedar Do I also have to learn the Kanji characters? There are so many
You can start without worrying about it first but when you're confident enough to face it I recommend learning all basic radicals first. Just focus on the characters first then the particles used in sentences just do some peeks in kanji while ur not studying its radicals
Hi guys! I want to learn more on how to speak english. I know Filipino anyway.
Does anyone know any good materials for learning Nepali? Given it’s a less common language, it’s trickier to find learning material online
About 1000-2000 first words (I assume so) constitute most of the common scenarios you would need to talk about in everyday life.
So your aim is to automatize the use of these words. Focus on them for now and move further if you feel they come naturally. If you don't have anyone to speak with regularly, just speak to yourself. You are most likely to use these 1000-2000 words when you speak about what you're doing at the moment (try to think in English wherever you go or whatever you do). You wash dishes – try to think of the process. You have read a book – try to express your opinions about it. Just use every possibility to think or speak. Basically forget that you ever could think in your native language xD You only have English now. Constant exposure is really the only way. It will be easier with practice.
Oh and also to add:
It's important not to stop a train of thought if you don't know a word or forgot it – just skip it for now and say in your native language OR put effort to find synonyms and explain in different words in English.
You might find very less material for Nepali. I speak Nepali fluently and it's alphabets and writing style is same as Nepali. So u can learn the Hindi alphabets first. It would be a lot easier
Thank you @tiny mason for your advices :)

Hi, does anyone have files/resources for studying Portuguese? I need some help, just starting out here <3 Thank you!!
thank you!
any tips on learning chinese vocabs and grammar
Hi, i dnt think i have any resources that can be useful to u but there are a lot of videos on youtube and u can also try duolingo. My advice tho is decide if u are more interested in portuguese from portugal or from brazil because it has some differences, especially in pronunciation
Thank you <3 I'm currently doing Duolingo and sources on Youtube, I was just wondering if anyone has any resources that might help :) Do you have any idea if learning portuguese from portugal would be more beneficial or from brazil?
Thank you for the advice though!! <3
Np, well it depends on why u learning it and where u are from i think, if u are learning to travel maybe it aint worse learning the brazillian verson because its more widely spoken i think but if u are from europe i would say portuguese from portugal. It is like english from united kingdom and from usa tho, u should learn the one u prefer. : )
@orchid basin well i found this video didnt watch till the end but u can see the difference. She is speaking portuguese from brazil and he from portugal https://youtu.be/wfs_PNA_R-M
Today I'm going to have a chat with my friend Nuno Cramês. Nuno is Portuguese, so today you’ll have the opportunity to hear and perceive the difference between the Brazilian accent and the Portuguese accent. We are going to talk about the differences between Brazilian Portuguese and Portuguese from Portugal, and we’ll also talk about some differ...
Thank you so much for the detailed answer, I'm just worried they might be like super different haha <3 Really appreciated you taking the time for it, thank you so much!!!
Np, it was interesting for myself to see the differences as well, they are different but i can easily understand both its just that there are some words that are different like they showed in the video and the pronunciation i think that is the biggest difference but learning one u will also understand the other even if slightly with more difficulty. Good luck : )
So, I'm having a problem figuring out if the a, c, f, g, i and j lines need any correction or not, since they already seem to be correct to me
Well, about the i and j lines, I don't know if they are correct or not, or how to correct them
Does anyone have any experience with writing manuscripts?
I'm glad someone was able to help you and no worries, if you need help again you can always ask :3

The app/website Busuu is a good way to learn a languages with vocabulary and grammar. I have used it for a long time and i love it
When you spoke about vocabulary, you meant in another language, right ?
If you meant voc in your own language, I had the same problem and I solved it by reading a lot books, articles, etc.
Can you, guys send me a Spotify playlist? But easy/beautiful german songs. 😃Please ( I want to listen german songs but I started new to learning German and I dont know good bands/singers)
English is not my other tongue and I have tried to read a lot but I can't remember the new word for long time. BTW, thanks for your guidance
someone knows of any good way/practice to learn a language with a different alphabet like Russian?
Try to use these words, for example by create summaries of the books that you read. That I do is I write all new words in a notebook and I read them every weeks, then I remind them easily 😉
In german class, we listened "Berlin Berlin" by Alpa Gun (feat. Jasmine Madeleine), the lyrics are quite easy to understand and the melody is cool 👍 But I don't know if it's available on Spotify, we watched it on yt
thx for suggestion
I speak portuguese , im learning english
ohhhh thanks very much I'll try it next week
you're welcome 🙂

Heeey, do you have any advice to improve the pronouncement and the accent in English? I saw that it was good to talk to native people and such... but I don't have friends who are from English-speaking countries😅 😅
I'd say if you watch shows/videos/song in english, you'll eventually get a relatively better undertanding of how the sounds work
Sure! DM me.
dm me if you'd like!! i can definitely help!!
if you want i could always help vc and check your pronounciation and accent!! watching shows/songs/short stories helped me a lot with my accent tho

Have you tried shadowing? You can use any audio you like - news reports, or the audio from dramas and films - and just practice saying the same things, focusing on the pronunciation. You can also record yourself to make it easier to compare your own pronunciation to the original audio.
Anyone fluent in Spanish be able to check my Spanish beginners speech ??? It would be amazing!

Complete each of the following sentences by adding a prepositional phrase. Then, identify each phrase as an adjective phrase or adverb phrase by writing ADJ or ADV between brackets.
We can sail _______________ this afternoon.
i wiill pay money help me
I will change some things, okay?
But its ok, its just that you repeat a lot the word "Mexico" and there are somethings that would sound better in a different order
I was trying to say, which we must go to visit the famous sites in Mexico City like the Floating Gardens in Xochimilco.
Okk
And here?
I think that overall it's ok but the last sentence it's confusing for me... (I'm not native so im not sure)
thanks
I wanted to try and say, we must go to the culinary (food) tours so we can taste the local, original flavor of Mexico. There are many food stalls, selling drinks and traditional Mexican food like …. in front of the Chilpancingo Metro and the Market of Merced.
do you still need somebody else who takes a look?
writing an essay but after that I could take a look if you want to
I think that we dont use the word "tours" in spanish
Comparto 'Spanish_Speech_Edited by mua_Choco 😆' con usted
@worldly dirge hope u like what i modified, if u have any question just ask me
If u ever need help or want to practise, ill be glad to help you!
In the 1st line, put this instead: "me gustaría hablar acerca de México. Os ofreceré algunas razones por las cuales deberías de ir a esta hermosa ciudad." ( i might have done some mistakes for not paying attention, sowwy)
I started to comment some thing when choco put the other version here 😅 . So I left some of my edited parts and on some parts I would write it just as Choco did 🙂 . These are just comments, so see what works for you the best 🙂
Thank you so much for the both of your help!!!
May i ask where are u from??
You are welcomee ç
Hello from Viet Nam. How about you ?
living and studying in Germany but I am bilingual (spanish) (not as good as a native who has been living in a spanish speaking country all his life 😂 )
hello I am Vietnamese too, my friend
I am from Spain 😊
ohhhhh thats nicee, the only thing i know in german is 'ich esse schokolade' 😂
well that's the important too 😂
any tips for preparing spanish for a test?
we need to know our priorities
and this is my syllabus for the exam (they'll ask either mcqs or fill in the blanks)
It may not be really useful because I'm native...maybe @deep saddle can give u good tips
for the tenses
memorise them and practice with sentences online
same with articulos and so on
maybe flashcards may help
aaah, understandable
i once approached an Argentinian and he literally had no idea
any recommended resources?
and with objeto directo e indirecto, try to understand each thing. Then u can try practising with sentences as well and try to identify the object
I've seen that people who are learning spanish as a new language, usually gets confuse with the verbs ser ,estar y hay. U can try to look up for when to use them and their meanings for each situation
Those are the ideas that came to my mind
until when do you need them?
I could look some of my exercises from Uni up (which level are you A2/B1/B2 ?)
I would search for them tomorrow since I am a bit busy with the report 🙈
in like 2-3 days
and my lvl is A2
this and they confuse a lot with masculine an feminine words
It also depends of the age ig, maybe he is still learning sth or he just sucks 😂 . Even if you are a native in a language you will never know the language perfectly... for example, my little sister (who is 15) makes a million spelling mistakes😂
I will search them in some hours 🙂
thx a lot :)
he was 25 lmao
and tbh spanish in skool is kinda tough
hahahaha
and the worst part is i still dont know half the stuff that im reading
How old are u?
the thing is i usually learn a language but listening to others and then speaking
but here in indian skools, they mainly focus on the writing and grammar part
15 lmao, same age as ur lil sis xd
Thats important as well
If u need speaking practice i can help u through a vc
damn that would be helpful, and for preparing for DELE
ohhh, u are still a baby xD
that's bad. And it was proven that that method isn't right. The focus should be on communication and it's ok to make mistakes as long as the other persons understand you
even though my teacher does encourage us to speak in spanish during the class, but at the end of the v get marks writing the correct answer in the fill in the blanks
the board aint gonna test for our speaking skills and thats a bummer
I think that grammar is important to be able to communicate
But thats a good point
the thing is, skools focus on grammar since the beginning and forget bout "actually" learning the language
u should try to participate more in class
its just 7 of us lmao
Yeah...but this is how the educational system works. We never actually learn sth and we study just to pass a test 😦

then good luck😂 . But i think thats better, i mean u have more opportunities to speak up
well this is my last yr learning spanish, soooo the nightmare will be over soon
and maybe the relation among the peers is better (?
lol the whole class sucks at spanish, the only reason y v chose spanish in the first place was cuz hindi was too difficult
yes it is but the focus should never be the grammar. e.g. I have to write my report about a class that I planned and the kids have the theme "El agua - el oro azul". In those 6 hours of class (3 weeks) they need to learn how to suggest something or how to give an advice. So what they need is the condiconal simple (and imperativo) to do that. There motivation to learn grammar is not because of grammar itself but because they want to express something and can't do that with the knowledge they have. Which means that they have to learn new grammar to be able to do that (intrinsic)
So the difference is that your focus is completely different. Learning just grammar isn't helping you learn the language.
The idea is that you want to communicate (hearing, speaking, reading and writing) and therefor you need vocabulary, grammar and so on...
hey guys! does anyone know ASL here plz?
What is asl
american sign language

Oh
im asking cz i need help finding resources and stuff
npp
I laughed at this hahaha-
i wanna start learning japanese but im having a tough time figuring out where to start, if anyone speaks japanese themselves or has any general tips for learning a new language i would love to hear🤞
Okay so- im not a japanese learner. But from my knowledge, ALL Japanese learning youtubers say to start with the alphabet, specifically Hiragana and Katana. There are books you can buy that aids with learning the alphabet. There are also free apps that teach vocab and etc
I for one say, invest in the books! The alphabet is a challenge- so having a structured learning system to help you along the way WILL ease some of those worries/issues that may arise in the future
i appreciate that a lot. i was first thinking of building a basic vocabulary and phrase knowledge level, day to day and common words/sayings etc. and exercising my listening skills.. but im not really sure if thats the way to go about yet. thank you for your advice i will take it into consideration!!🤞
I recommend learning the alphabet and if so, listening practices and learning basic vocabulary as well. Please search for Japanese learning Youtubers, as I don’t have the experience they have and im sure they’ll be able to recommend great Japanese learning resources!~
yuupp i definitely will, thank you!!!
yeah!! you start first with hiragana and katakana
then i would recommend you to try the n5 classes from the channel bondlingo, they're not bad
n5 videos, they have a playlist in their channel
thank you! ill check it out tomorrow!
Asking once again if anyone has any Portuguese resources for a beginner, any advice or website/book/ tv show that will help improve my grammar, vocab, listening and speaking
Also amy youtube channel that teaches portuguese with great learning excercises? Thank you all
Try Pocoyo in portuguese! A children's tv show maybe should help
but even me that's brazilian had a hard time thinking what i should recommend to learn portuguese
If you have any tips or recommendations at all I'd really appreciate that, I'm lowkey having a hard time with sentence structures and grammar haha :(
Sadly i don't have any tips coming out of nowhere 😢 but if you have any questions i would love to help! I work as an publicity writer so i have to know grammar pretty well
Oh is it okay if I send you a friend request and pop in a few questions sometimes? I'm a writer too, just more in English haha
If you could ever think of any tips or come across any resources, I'd appreciate it if you send it to me
Muito obrigada
De nada
ohkk so i started learning japanese by first memorizing the scripts: Hiragana and Katakana, for that i used duolingo (#opinion: duolingo is good for memorization but not for actually learning the lingo)
After that i started learning basic japanese phrases using the Japanese for Dummies book and ANIMEEEE
Brazilian?
Yup!!!
Omg thank you 💕
Muito obrigada
yea i dont speak Portuguese xd
ohhhh okay thank you!!

IS ANYONE FROM GREECE HEREE
any tips on how to learn le subjonctif et le gérondif quickly? got a test tomorrow
Basically gerondif is adding "-ant" at the end of the word and -en before for exemple: " attends" becomes "en attendant". This means "wait", "while waiting"
Subjonctif is about adding "que" for instance "peux-tu me passer le beurre pour QUE je suis puiSSE l'étaller sur mon pain" Voila! If u need more help tell me
and how do you form the subjonctif? and are there any special rules to it?
Yes u need to be really carefull of the verb conjugation
And its always with "QUE" before the verb and the conjugation is different based on which group the verb is coming from (le premier groupe (1st group)= verbs that finish by -er, second grp= verbs in -ir and 3rd group: -re etc... (u can actualky check thiis out in google to remind urself)
I forgot to mention u
thanks man 🙏
No prob!
i'd say A
That's right but I don't know how 🥲

Hi everyone, I was wondering if people would be interested in a German conversation and resource discord for people around B1 and above (including natives if they are interested). I personally am interested in making one and I personally would mainly use it for conversation but if there are people at B1 and above in the discord we might as well share resources.
I know there are a couple of discords out there for German conversation and other things but there are often a lot of people that are only just beginning, obviously I have nothing against beginners in a language, at some point we were all beginners, but I myself am in need of conversational partners with a level above A. DM me if your are interested so I can see if there is enough interest to make a discord.
If any of you need help with your Spanish Conversation Practice you can feel free to dm me so we can chat :)
I wanted to learn Korean but im not sure where or how to start...are there any native speakers who cud help?
Hello can someone explain me what does this sentence mean: "to catch the flak".
( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCmaOcezHpU 0:30 ) in the cambridge dictionary word " flak " is explained as "strong criticism or opposition". I am from Poland and when I try to translate this sentence it doesn't make sense.

Yes - "to catch flak" is like saying that you're going to be criticized for something you did or said.
Like someone is going to say something negative about what you did/said.
In the context of the song where they say "I ride in back, to catch the flak" I think they're trying to say that they put other people before themself, and they accept blame and critiques even if its for their friends.
Thank you ❤️
Of course! 🙂
Is there anyone to help me with Russian?

Quack guys! Can someone speaking Japanese explain me the nuance between 温かい and 暖かい ?
好人 = good person
一生 = entire life
平安 = safe/peace
i believe it means a good person will have a life of safety
thank you
oh cool, cuz im learning that only
Can anyone tell how to write a good english essay?
depends on the type
Japanese people often translate 温かい into “hot”, and 暖かい into “warm”. I don’t know the nuance between hot and warm. But, in general, though not always…
・温かい When you feel 温かい contacting something with your hand, tongue and heart
ex). Hot tea (温かい 茶) 、kinds words(温かい 言葉)
・暖かい When you feel 暖かい throughout your body
Ex). warm weather(暖かい 気候)、warm cloth (暖かい 服)

Does anyone know of a good French podcast with transcript in English so I could follow along?
For series, many people I know watch Dix per cent, Lupin and le bureau
oh, you could use Learning language with Netflix extension
Thanks, I will check it out!
I don't have netflix..
and if you're very beginner and can survive from cringeness check out extra french on Youtube, it has french subs but very easy to understand
- skam france (idk if you can find double subs but you can find fr subs and eng subs separately)
Are these series R rated?
idk about lupin but dix per cent was fine i guess +13 but they say sometimes le bureau is pretty agressive and disturbing
but skam is a teen series after all so it's fine
Okay, thanks for letting me know! I will watch Skam for starters.
you're welcome also for podcasts you can check coffee break french i don't know if they have scripts but might be helpful
gern geschehen and de rien then klgfdk
hey guys, what is the best way and place to learn cantonese for free online, duolingo doesnt have cantonese and podcasts havent really been that helpful
heyy if anyone speaks spanish, can you please message me? it would be really helpful as im taking a spanish course now
What is the difference between at stake and stake?
u can always use cookies
[Therefore]
since the phrase after it doesn't counter the first phrase
It's 哥哥/长的/又/高/又/帥。
Those two 又 are actually separate. (又高又帅)
And "又" basically means "also".
ahh thank you!
therefore

i add you on discord
i add you on discord thanks both
I am not a native speaker but I would be willing to help you. I have been told on several occasions that my English vocab and accent are pretty good.
I am studying German to become a teacher so I think we can really help eachother.
Check out the pinned messages in this chat there is a message with a massive amount of resources
At stake can be changed to at risk or on the line. It means that there is something you could gain or lose from a certain action, scenario or situation.
I.e. The championship is at a take (we could win or lose the championship)
My job is at stake (I risk losing my job)
Now That ithink about it I think at stake most often implies that you are a t risk of losing something rather then win/gain something
A stake has a lot of meanings, some from the top ofu head are (and I am sure there at more):
A stake in a certain thing, such as a company meaning that you onw a certain part of it or/and that it has significance to you.
A stake in poker is the buy in or the amount off money someone is willing to put in in a certain session
A wooden stake, pretty much a big wooden nail, I.e. What they use to kill vampires
I hope this helps
thank you so much
is there anyone here who’s fluent (or relatively fluent) in french who can help me with improving my writing? i know the vocabulary but it’s more to improve things like grammar and syntax

Hi i want to improve my listening and speaking skills in english. İs there anyone that i can talk
Yes of course
sorry if it's a late reply
I would say, skam only helps you learn the informal french
"langage familier"
if you are intending to learn more formal content
go for documentaries
news, articles, if you want to build strong vocabulary
Here if u like
and in case you enjoy listening, or watching fun programs i would say go for cartoons
I want to learn japanese….I am fluent in both english and arabic….If anybody is willing to help

Hi guys i am new here, I am studying Chinese and I am French so if anyone needs help for their french please go ahead :)))
Let's try it
Hi i'm brazilian, i search anyone for speak english with me, anyone want to help me?
I want to speak English (there is no "ing" in speaking)
Can you help me? (There is no s on your's)
it could also be "I want to start speaking English. Can you help me?"
Just for more info. Every verb in the infinitive form you will use the word "to" before the verb, like: to run; to eat; to fly. There are some rules that you can take use to know when you will use the infinitive verb. I don't remenber any, sorry, but after study for a time you will some hour get it. (Use "google translater" or "reverso translation")
google translate is not that accurate when it comes to translation, thats wt my spanish teacher says
Bruh, I don't even know the forms. I just speak it. I guess it is way harder to learn a language when your old. I can't seem to get hang off learning other langs like French and German.
I agree, google translate is not that accurate.
Maybe use wordreference
日本語ができる人!おもしろい

Btw does anyone know some Japanese youtubers that I could listen to? I can understand casual conversations very easily

Can someone help me? I’m trying to find someone to help me learn Spanish but haven’t find the right person yet
have you tried HelloTalk?
I don’t want to use an app to learn languages tho
it's 2021 what other better way can you find?
Thourgh the internet?
I’m not saying that i want anyone to come in to my house and teach me Spanish or anything
Maybe you don't know how HelloTalk works... It is like a social network where people share posts and find each other to become language exchange partners
it is not like duolingo or learning apps
Okay i’m going to give it a try
Brazilian, right? I am too :)

I never really learn Japanese from textbook, but almost everyday I watch any Japanese dorama and anime, and when I realize already remember a lot of Japanese word. And my Japanese friends told me that my Japanese is sound life native even though there are some problem mistake. I would happy if this helpful for you
I watch anime sub .....I know some sentences and stuff...but definitely not even close to making a simple convo
Hello everyone, I’d like to improve my pronunciation in English. How can I do that?
Shadowing. Listen to English Content, like youtube videos, shows and Podcasts. You will then repeat whatever the person says.
Using a translator or youtube to teach you how to say a English word correctly, also helps.
Thank you 🙏
Whats the kanji for "hear" ??? as in hearing something
" 聞く" I think its for something general. "聴く" I see it as something that you're listening (such as music) [I'm still a beginner but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong ^^]
Pan's answer is correct. 聞く means "hear", nuance- sounds naturally get into your ears. 聴く means "listen", nuance- someone wants to listen to something (ex. music, talk and radio).
After I get a lv in English, when I wasn't more a begginer and i've can translate for myself i could see if google translate it is that bad that the peoples say, well, my first language is portuguese, maybe with your language can be betterest our baddest than mine. But you just need don't use slangs, it is a robot, it doesn't understand the real speaked english, but the correct grammar it will. Well, this is what I could've notice
Well, btw i don't too, but this help in some, you don't will forget everything, so, I think it's better than nothing, but how you say, i just speak it too, many times i write wrong, i just see what the americans and britshis write, and when I need if make sense I make use of it.
ありがとうございます!@crystal scarab @river comet
ohkk so ur msg has a LOT of grammatical errors (and plz dont mind me correcting u)
-have and can dont go together, the sentence should hv been "I can translate it myself and see if google translate is that bad as ppl say"
-Betterest and Baddest are not the superlatives of Good [Good, Better, Best] and Bad [Bad, Worse, Worst]
-just is unnecessary, u can simply write "You dont need to use slangs"
-instead of speaked it shud be spoken english
-"but it will correct the grammar"
-in the last line, its not "could've" but "could"
and this is not related to grammar but google translate is not a robot, it is an algorithm which tries to translate the spoken language, so u can pretty much use slangs
i'd love to! im not a native speaker bt i guess i know how to speak the language quite well
omg i would love to! im an indian! if anyone wants to vc just dm me once!
lol its hard to know wt exactly is ur native language when u r a indian, u learn atleast 2 different languages simultaneously since the beginning and its even hard when ur parents r from 2 different states
lol i know...i might speak around 6-7 indian languages (i hv many friends nd cousins living in diff states lol)
mine are 😂
Damn, I can speak 4 indian languages and 3 foreign ones (if u include English as well)
Hi, is there somebody, who knows italian? I am beginner and need a piece of advice. I will appreciate it and if you want, i can help u with everything that I know 🙂
For anyone learning Korean here’s a cool app that teaches you Hangul, sentence structure, conjunctions and more and has mini-games as well
I've liked you corrected me, this is how I can improve my english!
And in the last line I place "could've" cause I was saying in the past, like, I used for a long time, isn't like some months or something that i notice now, but more of a year. And the slangs is for that i can improve my English, having one with more words and not the same every time, if i've doing this would be many pleonasm! Again, thank you for correcting me, this help me so much!
Hi, could someone help me? I have some doubts about one question in my activity
Are these correct?
it shud be 17
start with basic conjugation and grammar, be also focused on the pronunciation, and the, start listening italian content on YT and so on. Vocabulary will help you understanding better, but grammar is the key. Find a way to practice oral skills (I learnt Italian by speaking) and someone to chat with for writing.
heys, I need some korean speaking yt channels with LOTS of speaking so, any suggestions ? content doesn't really matter, as I consume almost every yt video

hiii, does anyone can help me with the meaning of what's in bold? I don't understand very well )): "Whether it’s poor mental health, sleep deprivation or social isolation, staring at screens, so the headlines go , is intrinsically, unequivocally, bad for us.
When you dig into the research , however, a subtler story emerges."
basically the bold words are used to increase the stress on the word...to tell tht its more important than the others

Pretty

@hard cedar may i dm you?
Of course
毎日 (Mainichi / Everyday)、単語 (Tango / Word)、愛(Ai / Love ,Affection)、美しい (beautiful, pretty,lovely)
The excact Kanji for Pretty is outdated, that's why 美しい (utsukushii) was used. You can also say きれい (Kirei) for Pretty

How to learn German well ?
Uhm, well with most languages practice is the Key. Engaging with the language and practicing Listening, Hearing and writing.
I can't say that for myself since I am a native speaker but I heard, that the german grammar is pretty awful. So I would not try to stress about it too much and try to get a feel of them
Yeah , that's right .
😹
hey guys, im learning french on my own atm, anny french speaking people who might be able to help me out with practicing conversations? (textual as well as speech 😄 )

Heyy, i took MET (Michigan English Test) last year
really? how's it going so far?
네 ㄱㄱㄱㄱ, pretty well imma say
Definitely not easy, it's very different from all the languages i've studied, but very fun
어 그렇구나, i agree, it’s not exactly the easiest- especially the much more complex grammar points. That’s good
Hi there! anyone wants to practice their Korean? I am at the pre-intermediate level (self-acclaimed hahah).
I'll get to the point of being confident enough to practice with a real person, or even having something to practice lol
OMG SAME- pulls out grammar book
U r welcome 😊, they've already answered to ur question but, if u have more doubts, i can help u (if i can) with anything u need
I just did this June and still didn't get the results, but is there anything I could help you with?
not really but thank you anyway, right now im waiting to do the speaking part
Good luck!! One advice is you gotta say whatever you want to say concisely and quickly because for each question you get about 30 seconds to a minute and trust me it's never enough to express your thought fully, be quick and clear and concise. But overall it's super easy don't stress, I really mean it, it's easy :)) @hard cedar
The listening could potentially be the hardest part, but if you got through that, nothing can stop you 💪💪
that's so kind of you! again, thank you so much!
Really??? That would be great!

@plush osprey @robust nymph Thank you!!
Man this is sooo useful!! I know where this information is from, it's from that black guy's who became fluent in french in a month, right? I love that you wrote down notes and shared them here it's so useful! 🌟 Thanks!
Edit: Glad it got pinned!
Yeah! exactly, I do have my own method based in this black guy's method, but discord have 2000 characters max, so I decided to share his. Mine is so much more detailed, and I didn't want to create such a long post
apparently this guy has also managed to learn spanish in a new video, but +8h a day is not realistic if you work/study
It would be great if you can screenshot your method and send it here
Yeah absolutely not, 4h would be max for me if I want to go full speed
okay I'll try to do it later!
Hey, Anyone up for learning English properly plus (Practice IELTS) ?

As far as toefl is considered, I hvnt given it yet but my brother has. He actually forgot bout the test so his prep was pretty much last min one, his English speaking and pronunciation skills r pretty good so he just used Word Power by Norman Lewis for his vocab

i wanna start learning japanese....any tips?
Starting with japanese was pretty fun and also easy for me. The grammar at the beginning is very simple so it's not a big Problem. Best Advice is probably not getting lost with studying all the Kanji since you will certainly forget all of them when you can't write long sentences to make use of them.
Fortunately there is a lot of study material available in English.
,,
How to get started
Learning Japanese can be overwhelming when you first get started, so here are our recommendations:
1: Learn the Kana
The first thing you should do is learn the Japanese syllabaries, aka the Kana. This includes Hiragana and Katakana (but not Kanji). It will be very important to know the Kana right from the start since many resources online often assume you know at least the Kana. More info below.
2: Start learning Kanji
Kanji are an essential part of Japanese writing and it is highly recommended that you start the study of Kanji slowly but surely after you know the Kana. More info below.
3: Learn grammar
Grammar is the foundation on which language is built. Learning basic grammar can be an extremely powerful tool when you first try to wrap your head around how a language works. You may feel some resistance, since learning about grammar sounds quite boring, but we encourage you to start here. It's actually very rewarding to learn grammar as you will begin to understand the system behind the language. Don't worry if you feel overwhelmed at first, and feel free to ask whenever you have questions. More info below.
4: Learn vocab
This should of course be started in tandem with point 3, since learning grammar without any vocabulary to use it with can feel a bit vacuous. If grammar is the foundation, then vocab are the building blocks with which you build the house. To be comfortable understanding any language you need to learn a few thousand words, and Japanese is no different. This may seem like a tall order but, you can do it! More info below.
5: Reading/Listening
You should get into the habit of getting a lot of input. This can be done in the form of listening or reading. You need to fill your brain with enough information about the language before you'll be able to reproduce it. More info below."

How can i learn German?
Hey there, I had to answer a few questions about culture (like the iceberg model etc) in English language for a assignment. Is anyone here willing to may proofread it to make sure there are no grammar mistakes so I can get a good grade? Would be a big helpo for mee ❤️ ❤️
Listen to videos and music so you get familiar with the sound! Speaking German is difficult for many people since it sounds so different. Also plan in more time for the grammar section.. even Germans can´t explain the grammar sometimes haha
Sure
Yooo guys, just wanna ask, is anyone here fluent in standard Arabic?

Actually, my English is at B2 level. But I can't make a statement when I'm talking to someone. What am I supposed to do? I'm waiting for your advice.
At B2 you should have the basic grammar used in most daily conversations. Thus, you could focus on your vocabulary, and practice more often, to get comfortable with the accent and fluency.
Plus, it could eventually be related to lack of confidence or you being shy. If so, practicing and pushing the limits of your comfort zone should also help you develop your speaking skills
does anyone know the best way to memorize the thai alphabet? its so confusing cause some of the characters sounds the same
each other
10x bro

pictographs can be helpful, but you'd have to stretch the imagination a little lot for some of these
a combination of these 2 might help:
what is this test...how can i do it?
Idk its i think call OLS this sand me eng teach
Ah thanks!
Hi, i have a question about English
I live in a dormitary with 4 other students in winter.
I live with 4 other stundents in a dormitary in winter.
Which one is true?
well both? its just switching the placement, i dont see that as a problem though
although i would say ‘during winter’ instead of ‘in winter’
Both sound good to me but English isn't my first language
I live in a dormitory* with four* other students in the* winter.
I live with four* other students* in a dormitory* during* winter.
Numbers below or up to ten should generally be spelled out.
in the winter/in winter is a preference, I think the former sounds better in the first sentence.
during winter is used in the second sentence to avoid repetition (using "in" twice in a row).
One spelling error and one typo.
Both of them are correct, it is a subjective choice.

the first one, and replace "in" with "during"
thanks everyone
is there any tips for me to start learning chinese especially traditional hanzi?
does anyone have a tip for learning collocations and vocab in english?
im studying for an english specialized school so i need huge amount of them
read as much as you can from as many sources as you can (novels, biographies, articles etc)
watching movies and stuff also works as well (but some of it might not be grammatically accurate or whatever if you're watching, say, a gangster movie or something)
BOOKSSSS
thank you soo much
Hi everyone
This August I'm gonna start a Spanish course
Do you guys have any advice
My first language is Turkish btw
Mmmm, be patient and be aware that there are a lot of dialects so, choose the one that you would like to learn and start getting used to the accent, learn the common words and be careful with the pronunciation and spelling.
bro focus on every single skill i.e. Reading, Writing, Grammar and Speaking
NEVER EVER SKIP A LECTURE
Spanish vocab is pretty volatile, so revise regularly
Grammar rules are crazy af, special focus on that
so good, I already watched it 2 times
Thank you very much
Thanks I will keep that in my mind

Hello, can someone help me translate this to Japanese.
"My name is (name), but you can call me (nickname)."
does anyone preparing for testDAF or DSH, if so can you help me to find some good resources to study?
ore no na wa ______ da yo ( the word dayo i took it from anime so not sure if you should use this ) 🤣
so putting it simple ore no na wa Toffee
or boku no na wa tofee idk what you call tofee in japanese
Depends on whether you're a man or a woman:
Women use "watashi" for "I" so you'd say, "watashi wa ____ desu. ____ to yonde kudasai" (formal)
Similarly, just switching "watashi" to "ore" if you're a man, you can say "ore wa ____ desu. ____ to yonde kudasai" (strangely informal yet formal, but for the sake of simplicity, it works)
Keep in mind that the version for women is also used in formal situations for all people. The term "ore" (used primarily by men) is considered slang and is not very formal. You can use it with formal endings, but it is not very common.
If you are non-binary, you can use either depending on your choice. Additionally, informal speech will change the phrases too.
Informally:
Women: "Watashi wa ____ da wa. ____ to yonde kure"
Men: "ore wa ____ da. ____ to yonde kure"
Japanese will often have people introduce themselves formally since it's polite to be nice the first time you meet someone.
Alternatively, you can just introduce yourself by saying "____ desu/da" without the need to introduce two names.
Last names typically come first in Japanese, but for Western names, it is acceptable to say it first then last name
Thanks a lot!
was watashi always used for women?
and ore is for men?
I don't think I have ever come across that
i only know a bit japanese learned from anime
like
ore wa killua
and
ore no na wa uchiha sasuke
yea I mean that makes sense
but like it's totally fine for lets say sasuke to say watashi no namae wa sasuke
i nvr heard sasuke saying that
Im pretty sure I guys got it wrong, as far as I know ore is a pretty rude way to identify yourself, it's used until like highschool
Were people switch to boku (that is kind of informal) and watashi.
Watashi also is unisex.
If u want sources I can look them up.
Ore it's very used in anime, but anime doesn't reflect how real people talk and the full formality system of socialising in Japan.
Sry, just saying it's rude might give the wrong idea, ore is fine with friends and family, but in any other situation is safer to go with boku, or even more formally, watashi.
Saying Boku or Ore (僕/俺) Is typically used among young male and Ore for older/adult males.
Like Sora 8D sayed, Watashi (私) is unisex and can be used by woman or man.
Generally speaking is Ore an informal Term and shouldn't be used in a Political conversation.
Hii
how many words per day are recommended to learn from a foreign language?
i mean there's no recommend word count, more just regular practice
but if you did do a set amount, it'd be better to do less but make sure you know them thoroughly than to do a bunch but not really remember them
Hi, to anyone who is very experienced in Chinese, does anyone have any particular advice for learning the language? I'm kinda struggling to keep up with class and I need some help/advice/tips on which ways might be effective ways to get my vocabulary better. Greatly appreciated
Just take it easy and stick to your flashcards, you can use anki with your own decks or use some websites like https://www.tofulearn.com/ or https://mandarinbean.com/category/beginner/
Thank you @bronze meteor
Hi!
I will be starting Romeo & Juliet soon and it seems intense, any advice?

You know, the worst thing about being able to understand everything in your target language like a native is to listen to yourself speaking or 'trying to speak' fluently. My listening skills are up here ^^^^ and in comparison my speaking skills are ___ , uhhh so f* annoying. Just more reps!
Omg I couldn’t agree more. My listening ability would be considered at a higher level compared to my “beginner-like” speaking ability. However there is this YouTuber that focuses on speaking ability and improvement. Check out “Language lord”
Not sure if his methods may work for everyone- but they do make differences in one’s speaking ability, if of course you dedicate enough time and effort
yeah, I'm following my own method based on his
Oooh interesting
i shared it in this chat, a couple weeks ago actually
The modern one?
Anyone in here that's started a language bullet journal? I'm gonna make one as I'm around 29/30 days into my Duolingo journey language learning journey
There are 2 versions. Old English and modern English. we all use modern English. Getting the translated version is much better tbh
hey guys, I just wanted to share with you an exercise I've just discovered, it's called "Verbal fluency test" and it's about thinking as many words as possible starting with a specific letter during 1 minute, you can google it
Okay tyyy
I just use what was given to us,lol
Ahh i see
if u r trying to learn a language using duolingo only, then u wont be able make real life convos like a native or in an advanced lvl
duolingo mainly focuses on vocab rather than the other aspects of a language. like you could say some meaningless sentences but u rly cant make any convos as such
Thanks, I'm using different resources more and I'm going through what i need to know to communicate better.
Hi:). I want to practice speaking English. If someone can help me please message me.
