Yo ! Anyone to speak in German?
Ye, Y?
hey do you guys recommend Genki or Minna no Nihongo for Japanese beginners?
do genki before minna no nihongo
although genki is more geared towards class settings you can make it work individually
minna no nihongo is for when you have a slightly better grasp of the language, as its fully in kana & kanji
so like later beginner/early intermediate id say
also know that ull want the english grammar explanations and translation for minna no nihongo, and for both textbooks ull want the additional workbooks
it does get quite expensive
I am not a native speaker, but I learn German, so we can chat

hello, I'm looking for friends who can help me with russian
if you're interested, please DM me
Hi, who can can help me with English speaking practice?
If you like the language, its culture or anything related to it, then why not? Honestly its a really beautiful language so i'll go for it even despite the tones and the difficult writing system
Actually, i just wanna learn it cuz my favorite E-sport team is from Thailand XD
when I saw how when they are talking with each other in Thai, I fell in love with this language.
I just noticed how weird it sounds (in positive mean of this word)
I guess I'm fascinated about this language.
I don't even wanna write in their alphabet, i mean I would like to
But the point why I wanna learn is just that i could speak it, and understand my favorite E-sport team when they say something in Thai.
I don't know much about culture, or anything about Thailand tbh
The way they talk is very satisfying. Perhaps do some research about the culture if you want? Thailands culture and history is very rich and beautiful. I guess start with common phrases
I can help, dm me 👍
Yes, I really agree with you!
Maybe I'll try to do some research, but mainly i just wanna learn the language, and understand it
Thank you so much for advices❤️
of course~!

Hey guys, any french native speakers here? I am searching for an understandable translation for a french paper I just read
any tips on becoming fluent in spanish quickly?? i'm a beginner
tips to learn spanish fast... we brazilians, even though we speak portuguese, it's easy to understand why it's something similar, but one thing is true... all good evolution is really slow, but you can improve a lot listening to songs in spanish, reading simple texts and trying to translate and maybe even watch influencers there, and I think that's it.
good luck with your learning
sure, im french, if you need a translate, dm me i'll respond as soon as possible
omgg dora the explorer

Hi. Is someone learning portuguese? Any recommendation like podcasts or youtubers?
hey does anyone here speak chinese? i have a very importnat speakign exam tomorrow and i really need some practise
if anyone is down to vc please dm me
Hi, I am a native speaker of Portuguese (Brazil).
a great podcast to learn about is the "nerdcast" and the "flow podcast", it talks about many things (pop culture and more).
and, to learn with entertainment, I recommend "luba tv", this channel has a board about funny events that happen here.
by the way, I recommend you listen to MPB (tom jobim, jorge ben jor, toquinho and seu jorge are some examples)
- serves to learn the pronunciation and the letter mostly -.
and, if you need of more tips, you can call me in dm :)
(MPB = popular brazillian music)
extra: "Prof. Noslen" on youtube (portuguese's teacher)
comment dit-on un chose 'can be found' ici ou y?
can be found = peut se trouver, but it can change depending the meaning of the sentence
Hi guys I’m Arab and i would like to improve my English so I was thinking to double learning with someone would learn Arabic
Hey could anyone help me with this spanish paper I'm doing?
omg, tysm 🙂
advice on learning multiple languages at once? My main concern is that the three I have chosen, are all different categories. (Japanese, Spanish, German)
I've never done it before but maybe take different days focusing on the diff languages- ex. 2 days for Japanese, 2 days for Spanish and 2 dats for German and 1 rest day- that way maybe your brain can associate those days with those different languages? Kinda like how chewing gum during studying helps you retain info later during a test
That sounds really helpful, thank you.
Studied German for the first time today. Already put many hours into Spanish, and some into Japanese. German feels so incredibley simple. It's just if English was slightly altered.
Am I silly for thinking this, and in over my head?
Considering that English has Germanic roots, noticing the similarity wouldn't be silly. I'm studying German and it really is similar to English which overall can be helpful when I'm trying to guess the meaning of a word.
guys i have a choice to learn one language frm french spanish german so ur thoughts please
personally spanish sounds really pretty and there are more spanish speakers i think, so id go for that
i think german gets complicated when it comes to b1 level, but its a beautiful language
awww as a german mothertongue that makes me happy to hear <3
i've studied german for around 5 years and it really gets hard after a while, but it is nonetheless a great language
i totally agree with you, i have been learning for about 6 years
ahh yeah i hate them too kjhgfghjhgfc
qu'est-ce que on traduis "l'@ctu" à?
j'sais pas si c'est un erreur par ma prof ou un autre chose
actu = actualité, the @ has been put to create a trick/ word game (in some way...), that doesn't seem to be a mistake.
It could also be a newspaper's name, look at the end of the text to see it
No language for me feels as good to speak and listen to as German
yes german is a beautiful and impressive language

Hey people,
I'm currently writing on my assignment from English class. We're supposed to give a speech. It will be a sales pitch where we will try to sell an item that we brought to class.
I will sell a pen, the problem is, I'm not really sure how to even begin the speech. I know the main structure of having —
- Introduction
- Main part
- Conclusion
But I'm still quite unsure of what to include. Anyone that knows how to make a good speech?
You gotta have a hook for the introduction part first of all, then you should give a general info or something leading for the main part. In the end of the intro part you need a thesis statement in one sentence and all-together +what will you mention at your main part
At main part only focus on your topic give detailed but solely necessary information maybe some examples, facts, statistics etc
For the conclusion part you can summarize things that you mentioned above, an advice, maybe you can also state your own opinions.
But I wrote this just for an outline. I haven’t written pro or academic speech before. Those are only what/how I do when I write my essays generally. Therefore if there is a specific way to write a speech, l may have misled you.
Even though, I hope it was helpful 🌸
I'm on Duolingo learning french right now. Is there a french person who is willing to correct my pronunciation of the french sentences while I speak them out loud?
I can
Is there some one who knows what does this mean?
my translator app says sth like „cluttered together“, but never trust a non-native speaker and mr. translator c.c
Hey I can help just dm me
Thank youuu I will check on that ^^
//Like readily gathers together with like. //Birds of a feather flock together. //you can use it both in a positive or a negative way. //物以類聚
is there an equivalent to "i did this x2 (twice)" in french?
You can say "Je l'ai fait deux fois" (i did this twice) or "Je l'ai refait" (I did it again)
could i say something like 2f (deux fois)?
You can say "Je l'ai fait 2x" but it's not very correct in general
I suggest you using to one above
"there's been a multitude of young people that have abandoned their dreams for a grade"
i think

hi guys
i need help with russian
how can you distinguish between movement verbs group I and group II
you learn them by heart
there are no questions or any tricks that i am aware of, russians simply learn them as they grow and don't think about it
foreigners will just have to learn them by heart
there are some criteria like whether the action is one- or multidirectional, if it's a regular or one time thing. if you are interested in that you can look it up online, there are many sources explaining it
Thanks!!
My interpretation: "they" are losing their minds but still choose to do that rather than not be themselves and that is a admirable skill. in other words, they choose to be themselves and accept their whole-self and mind even when losing it sometimes (emotionally). Hope that helps, i think your interpretation is most important, and try to look at the context of the sentence 🙂 goodluck!
what is attached with someone mean? Is it mean fall in love with someone? but how about too attached with someone?

I'm pretty sure it means luggage/cargo
Your talking about this kanji "荷物" right???
I don't have kanji sorry 😅 My teacher give an picture with (Its a man carrying a box)
Your all good lol
Guys I didn't get why is "d" wrong?
the burgur did not taste, it can not feel the taste haha
The question is simple past tense, that's why. Tasted is the past tense of taste and did taste isn't past tense,it's a past emphatic tense (The past emphatic tense is formed by adding the basic present form of the verb to the past tense of the verb to do (did).
Got it! thank you so much for your help👍

Does anyone know anything about Duality of patterning (DoP)? I really need help!!!!!
as in linguistics?
the duality comes from the two levels of language. the primary level - just sounds without meaning (think baby talk); and the secondary level - the purposeful combination of the sounds to create meaning in units
this page explains it pretty well
Yeah I'm doing my homework right now
I do know the definition but I need like example, so that I could fully understand this
hmm like the sounds of duh-ah-duh is primary level. alone they don't mean anything. but when said all together it means "dad"
oh this helps
Okay so now I have identify the smallest meaningful units of a whole sentence
I just need to split it into as small units as possible, as long as those units make sense right?
They are called morphemes
like in the sentence "I'm doing my homework right now", the smallest meaningful units would be "I", "do", "my", "home", "work", "right", "now" or "I'm" "doing" "my" "homework" "right" "now"?
really
'cause I just thought that if it stood alone, nobody will understand it
I mean they do, but it technically doesn't have any meaning
that's the point of the primary level, it's not comprehensive
Yup, this is why I’d say it’s the written form am that is a morpheme
Okay thank you so much, I get it now

hi!
anyone here who's a non-native english speaker who wants to practice speaking english with me?
I am studying portuguese, any advice to increase my vocabulary?
Based on how I learned a foreign language once you get the basic grammar down you just have to pretty much read stuff in foreign language.
read articles and you'll have a wider vocab than the average native (brazilian) portuguese speaker in no time
Actually, if you're interested in interacting with people in a natural way it could be hard to acquire all the slang that runs rampant among native speakers' interactions. If that's your goal, I'd recommend inserting yourself into a group of people and getting exposure to the language to learn the vocab
Any good site to practice English grammar objective type questions for free?

Hey! I have a French writing assignment and I need another pair of eyes to look over it
In any way really,, for example idk what que and qui are and when do I use them?
In komperativ and superlativ, some adjective will have to change the vowel to umlaut. Do they still follow the rules of adding -e in superlativ?
eg. gesund|gesünder|am gesündsten or is it am gesündesten
Nvm it was solved
i can help if you want to
How do I do 1?😭
So it’s not very well edited but basically you have
- A.Find synonyms for the following words, synonyms are words that are very similar meaning
b.Antonyme is a word that has the opposite meaning
C. Homonyme is a word that the same sound (in this case it’s an homophone) but with a different spelling and meaning
- A family of word is when you have multiple words with the same radical. For example kill killing killer are in the same family
THANK YOU SO MUCH
In Portuguese, is "Eu me levanto cedo" the same as "Levanto-me cedo"?

C. Enjoy
What do you think the others can be
Trying not to give all the answers without you thinking about it first
i thought that too but when i search it . it started with i not a and i can't find any other word
e . howl
but not sure
j . piss , peace , piece
but still this is all stand on the Americans IAP . and we study the british one + there is some letters that i can't find in the IAP that we gave ma classmates and i are alll llostt
Because it’s on spoken language, when you say enjoy in a sentence the stress is on « joy »
And the shwa(?) for the first syllable is because it is not stressed
okay i think i got this on
I would say howl is correct, you gotta search in dictionaries for pis I’m not sure weather it’s a long or short [i]
Cause I don’t see i:
Which would be peace or piece I think
If it’s short I’d guess piss
okay i will . thanks you just saved ma as
Haha no pb
Anyone here knows the UD realtions?
Time management requires the investment of a little time to...and organise your life and work
The answers are prioritize, strive, recognize and deal
What should I choose
Prioritise
Strive to achieve something
Deal with something
By grammar only recognise and prioritise can fit. And I don’t think you can recognise your life but you can prioritise
Anyone who knows Chinese?

Hello there, those of you studying German, what books or what kind of material do you use to practice grammar and to broaden your vocabulary? any answers will be helpful :))
Hi everyone 🤗 I’m French (17 y/o) I’m learning English, Chinese, Spanish and indonesian. I’m looking for a language buddy or a native that could help me to practice !
Hi not Oscar, I use Schritte International Neu and I highly recommend it. But I heard that Mensch is also good. They are both from Hueber publishing house. They help you practice grammar and include MANY other words other than end of the unit- word lists in between texts. At least Schritte series. Other than that, I read and listen whatever I can find. Song lyrics to shampoo bottles 🙂 But my main suggestion would be to watch EasyGerman on YouTube. They have German and English subtitles and they sometimes upload some grammer videos.
plz someone can help me in english its quick
Thank you soo much!
Anyone talk in German or italian?

The relationship between punctuation and management is an ubiquitous one, so much so that
punctuation can be very well described as a manifestation of management system in terms of
writing. If you have to describe this relationship between punctuation and management, how
would you do so drawing cues from the field of management and your understanding of the
punctuation system?
Ayyy wanna practice together?

It's been a long time that I studied la conjugaison, so sorry if I made some mistakes
you'd need to learn/ check the Bescherelle for conjugation, "subjonctif" is a mode, and "présent" is the tense
subjonctif présent is basically que+ verb
with similarities with imparfait

the last phrase doesn't look right to me. since 사과 doesn't have a final consonant, 가 should be used as a place marker instead of 이.

I am studying Japanese at n5 level since there were some grammar I needed to study. I want to know how I can make my handwriting better.
This is not hw. I was practicing the use of some grammar rules I used.
yess
Hiii, I'm next to take a English exam which is similar to a First level exam (B2). Is someone available to help me with my speaking??
just write the same characters over and over then u get the feeling how they have to look. Also if your handwriting is a bit off thats not bad that also can mean that it has a personal touch.
Hey I can help you if you'd like👍
Hi there! It's Aleyna and I need a native friend to practise English speaking skill. I'd be glad if there is one.
My interests: positive sciences, AI, software, robotics, engineering, languages, art
Hay everyone! Is there someone who would like help me with essay writing (my English essay writing not good😅)?? I am filling applications for abroad universities and I need to write several essays. So, i was just hoping if someone could help mee.
Can someone help me with this?
Based on the second image, I think it should be 2.
Yess. Some of my friends even said 1 😭
I would say it is as they corrected you, the third answer. The reason is tricky since the second one is not grammatically incorrect to me but i'm far from being an expert^^. The reason to me is about the relation between the sentence (when it is said) and the time of the action.
In the sentence the speaker is STILL working. If it was "had been" it would imply that the action of "working" is finished.
I'm sorry if it isn't clear enough
No no, the answer finally makes more sense to me, thank you!!
And thank you!!
im learning!! netlix mostly has kids shows with subtitles from what i have seen but i think theres a new greek series 'maestro' or something coming out next year.
Yes, got it. Thank You!!
yayy!!<3 tbh they should debut on netflix sooner. i was using ertflix but most things don't have subs
yeah i’ve noticed that too. and i don’t always feel like watching the kids shows lol.

Guys could you explain that what is the meaning of "based child"?
A child that speaks facts.
Can someone help me understand this?
that's odd, pick up (c) makes the most definite sense to me in that context
take in (a) makes sense too, and take on (b) sorta does but seems dramatic
Yess. I searched around a bit. From what I've seen so far, a, b and c are all fine. I think the examiner picked this particular phrase from an oxford dictionary example and did not check thoroughly for the remaining options.
Thank you for answering 🤍
no problem, good luck on your studies
Thanks
No problem, mate.

As "things would be really different"
Is vulnerability countable or uncountable noun?
thank you!
Can you perceive an award or is that wrong?
is the phrase, shot on april, 2021 grammatically correct? (context here is photography)
if you're just talking about a month, and not a specific date, it sounds better to write it as, "Shot in April, 2021"
shot "on" would be used more when you're specifying a certain day. for example, "Shot on April 1st, 2021"
hello people from the internet 🤖 , recently I wanted to learn russian BUT I dont know where/how to start (also I dont trust Duolingo 😑)
I'm a russian heritage speaker, you should first start with learning the kyrillica!!
as for grammar i'm not sure, there are many work books for foreigners though that you could use though :))
i already know cyrillic bc i already speak Serbian, or are there some letters diffrent
hmm no i don't think so, serbian has some extra letters that we don't have but you should be fine reading then
i'm not sure about textbooks for learning though :,)
the ones i know about are written for german speakers
well good news, i know german too
omg haha, there are books like Отлично! and Конечно! (i remember my teacher used to take materials from there sometimes) but i think the best one is the Диалог series :))
there are some more that my professor has shown me, but i don't remember the titles sadly TT
big thanks👍
nice fit, is he serbian or greek maybe? looks like one atleast but it could be just the outfit giving me the vibes

where to start learning English?
internet
Hi everyone, does anyone have an A1 level German excercise pdf?
Where to start learning Mandarin from 0?
learn radicals to understand / get accustomed to sound combinations. i've heard good things about this book: https://mtc.ntnu.edu.tw/eng/book/A_Course_in_Contemporary_Chinese.html
thx, I'll take a look
hi guys i need some help to be better at english ( im a french student ) im decent but i want to improve
Watch alot of English content that's the only way
Many people are good at writing English as they learnt it in school but they can't speak fluently.
So watch alot of English content of any type and you will automatically start thinking in english when needed.
I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong here. Any help appreciated
I think I spelled it right, but it keeps saying incorrect
you wrote ちや not ちゃ
ohh. whats the difference?
やゃ
ohhh wait it is smaller. Sorry, my bad
np
thanks :>
Hello, do you guys know where I could start learning Russian? My native language is Macedonian, so I know a grand total of 3 Russian words - 3 more than many people; but I really want to learn it and don't know where to start. Duolingo seems obvious, but I don't think it's that good of a place to start(?). What's your advice? Thanks
Large, black rain clouds________in the sky this morning, signalling an approaching storm.
A glowered B scowled C ruptured D crouched
what do you guys think should be the answer?
Glowered
figurative Large, black rain clouds glowered (= looked likely to produce rain) in the sky.
Yep i know, but its kinda weird that aside from Cambridge dictionary i haven’t been able to find this specific meaning of the word anywhere else.
whats the best source to start learning brazilian portuguese?
@dry heath check this ^^ i asked the same thing :)
Hey! I'm Erasyl. I wanna improve my English. I speak Russian fluency. Is there anyone who wants to improve their Russian? I would like to improve my English! we can help each other

guys, can you tell me where you can improve your English? I seem to be doing pretty well with grammar, but when it comes to conversations, I'm always confused

Anyone here speaks or is learning Finnish?
any tips for memorizing vocabulary?
try using Anki
everyone, I'm still searching this. if you have a pdf would be awesome.
There’s a playlist on YouTube called Russian World. Check out the first few vids that cover the alphabet and if you’re still interested when she starts with the textbook, you can dm me for it bc it’s impossible to find online
it doesn't work for C2 level voca......😭😭😭
place post it notes on the object your memorising. for example, if you’re learning portuguese and you’re learning the word “table” (mesa) put a post it note saying (mesa) on the table
tell me if it’s too confusing lmao
thanks!!!
npp
I coulddd try to help u
Maybe you could start by choosing a specific dialect to learn. It will make the process much easier
anki or quizlet?
anki
anki is completely free of charge and is straight to the point :))
if you want extra features and a prettier design usw. quizlet
thankyou
良いかどうかわかりませんが、修正してみました
what does this mean?
I don't know if it's good, but I tried to fix it.
@neat delta thank you

hi everybody, I need to ask sth
I am learning spanish right now and I have an vocab notebook
I am writing down the difficult words and sentences from duolingo and my other studies but should I write the meaning in my language next to the spanish word? I want to do it but it feels wrong, would it be better if I use sth like flashcard to not see the answer right away?
I want a native Arabic speaker Who can conversation with me for my better spoken...
based on my experience I would say that you try and avoid using this technique For example when I first started learning Spanish, I would do so, which made it difficult for me to use those words more naturally and subconsciously because I felt the need to translate everything in my head before speaking. I found that it's easier to learn a word when you use it frequently and in many contexts....
hello guys! i'm a native Spanish speaker, i would like to talk regular with someone in English! because i'm learning and actually can translate any text, even can see TV and movies with Eng subtitles, but at time to speak with someone the words can't come to my brain haha, wanna improve that, (i'm learning Japanese too). So if you're interested in help me, or if you want some practice or tips to learn Spanish i could help
oh thanks, I agree with u I guess
I ve been learning for some months. The grammar is complicated
Cant find much material to listen to so most of my studies are reading
Yeah it is , I’m studying it at school right now
I can help you out a bit
Russian or Finnish?
Are you a native speaker?
Finnish
Hi, I am a native French speaker, fluent in English (C2).
Hit me up if you'd like to improve your French.
I'd very much like to learn German, so any help or references, such as textbooks or methods, would be greatly appreciated.
Additionally, I'd love to learn Japanese, and have already learned pretty much all of the main Kana, but I can't seem to understand the thought process behind Kanji; again any kind of help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
I don't know any German, but I can give my two cents regarding learning Japanese. ☝️🤓
Since you are a native French speaker I highly recommend "Les kanjis dans la tête" by Yves Maniette. It's the French version of "Remembering the Kanji", but better (I have both) because 1) it has a story for (almost) every kanji, unlike the English one 2) it gives all the different meanings one kanji may have, not just the "main meaning".
The cons of this book : it's a bit pricy. And it simply explains the logic behind the kanji, without giving you the pronunciation or examples of vocabulary in which the kanji is used. So you will have to use an extra textbook to complete your studies ("Kanji to kana" does the job well enough. I've also heard good things about "Mémento et dictionnaire des Kanji" but I never gave it a look. Again, that will cost you money, so if you don't want to spend too much from the start, Jisho.org works fine too).
Also, if you give it a try, just so you know, you won't learn the kanji from most used to less used : the book follows its own system, so you will sometimes learn barely-used kanji right from the start and vice versa, you will learn commonly used kanji only towards the end. But it doesn't really matter, because once you finish the book you will know them all, and you can finish the book pretty quickly... If you study 10 new kanji every day, that's around 1500 kanji in about five months, for instance. Yes, it's that effective. For me it was a game changer for sure, but I know a few people who didn't really like it, which I find surprising really... 🤔 You can find a PDF of the former edition with the "first" 283 kanji. So you can see if this works for you, and then eventually purchase it, if that helped. (I'm not sure if I can send links here? But if you're interested I can DM it to you).
Hope this helped. 🫡
Thank you for the quick answer !
I might be able to find these books, and 10 kanji a day really does seem effective.
I will start looking into them tomorrow, could you DM me the link please ?
No problem !
I sent it to you 📬
hello im french someone can help me '(french people) for 1 homeworks

hi guys, I’m a Vietnamese ppl. I want to improve my English speaking skills. so it’ll be very happy if I have anyone else to talk.
i major in linguistics and literature including English, so if you have any questions I'll gladly answer :))
hi! im a russian heritage speaker looking to improve my russian 🥲 i'll gladly help you with english in exchange
Heyy, I am still learning English, but I will be excited if we practice the language together, if that is good for you, contact me Dm 🤍
Heyo, I'm trying to learn Spanish! I know basic things but I'm not fluent by any means. I'm looking for someone to help me learn or to learn with me!
Yo. People who live in America and study or have studied at an American school. What word did you use when you were learning grammar rules. Present Continuous or Present Progressive. I mean, what is the most common word?
Hi! I'm a native Spanish speaker, if you need help with the language I can help you
Thank you! I could definitely use the help lmao
I haven't attended an American school, but from what I gather, it's the present continuous that's the most common, that's what I had when I learned that language and was mostly stated upon the work-sheets that I found online.
Hello, I'm a native Russian speaker, so I would be glad to help you with this language if you need ^_^
any ideas of a funny tragic love story dialogue?
ぢ vs じ pronunciation difference?
Are there any English major students here ? Especially India. I wanted to ask a few questions.
any arabic speakers? im looking to better my arabic as i only speak really broken iraqi dialect
Actually, they're pronounced the same in modern standard Japanese.
I could explain the history behind it but that's not the point here, and if you're just starting it's better to not confuse you.
Just keep in mind that in modern standard Japanese (except for a few places), both じ and ぢ can be pronounced JI (as in pleasure) or DJI (as in jeep).
I believe both are written as JI in romaji now, but I'm not sure... Google translate uses ji じ / dji ぢ... 🤔
So why do we need ぢ, you might ask ? Japan kept ぢ after the 1946 writing reform for spelling purposes :
- if the same two kanas follow each other in the same word ;
- in compound words, when the consonant of a non-initial kana changes (this phenomenon is called rendaku in Japanese). For instance :
続く → つづく to continue (and not つずく, that's not ✨ aesthetic ✨ )
鼻血 → はなぢ nosebleed (はな nose+ち blood=はなぢ.)
Here the words use kanji, so you can't tell, but if you use hiragana that's how you should write it !
I hope this was just enough info for you without confusing you too much. The feminine urge to info-drop about the classical Japanese language... I must refrain... 文語 my beloved...
i somewhat remember my professor talking about づ ,ず じ ぢ , つっ and how that came to be
i should perhaps revise before continuing with japanese next semester 😹
i am native but i cant know that's difference
@rose spire here i am
Heyy can I dm you
Hey need help in speaking American english with intonation anyone up to help out here.?
hey i can help!
Hi, i want to learn english, but it is a bit hard for me. Can i ask how you guys learn and improve your language skills ?
And this might be a weird question, but how long does it take to have a decent level of english if you are not a native speaker
watch and watch a lot of shows with subtitles then start watching without subtitles but once you have enough input, you should try to speak with other eng speakers if you have the opportunity to do so, it will help tremendously!
Is there any way to find eng speakers? I tried omegle once but too shy to talk
who's using anki for jp?
i do 👋
https://refold.la/
Good place for a guide and a helpful communtiy
Depends on a lot of factors, so there's no straightforward answer
Get a ton of input with stuff you like. If there's a word or structure you don't know, look it up. Use Englisb subtitles to aid your listening and looking words up.
do you play games? there is a minecraft game on browser and you can use voice chat there, many eng speakers in the lobby (i can send you a link) granted there are kids though! theres also vrchat where you can chat with ppl and roblox, that also has a vc option!
wait roblox has VC option?? kindly enlighten me
VRchat is probably the best option for finding someone to VC with online
Did u found anyone?
I do play some however i barely see people talking i tried vr chat but somehow when i tried to talk i felt something was holding me back and words just disappeared
It's kinda hard to come up with words on the spot
That's why you gotta practice! that's the point :3
You've proven to be able to somewhat decently communicate with text, so now it's just a matter of practicing speaking to others
If you make mistakes, that's ok! don't be afraid to make em' and speak EN to your hearts content
I normally talk with myself when no one is around it was good but then i felt the progression is kinda slow. I also realized that my tounge flexibility is not so good and maybe that's why i can't speak some english words even when i know i'm not speaking it right. I think i will try to practice with some EN speakers.
Maybe redownload vr chat
I found one but I am happy to speak to more people :))
I think i speak quite good when i'm alone, but when i talk to another people or read something long i ruin it. How do i fix this ?
more practice xd really, trust the process
your ability to conjure up words when someone asks you something at that moment will improve the more you do it, simple as that
yes it does, to get a vc option, you need to show ur id or drivers license with a picture of you to verify according to my friends.
even native speakers can struggle with this, its really just more practice, if you can, maybe try writing down what you want to say on a piece of paper
oh I see ty
Yo guys, just needing a bit of Japanese help; How do you say the word 'song', in Japanese?
歌
うた
uta
adding -u in the end also turns it into 'sing'
歌う
Thanks for the advice. I also have an another question, is there any way to improve the pronunciation besides shadowing ? I tried to learn the ipa but it's still hard when i have to speak for long time or read something long, my tounge just doesn't function right
There's not much you can do, because it depends on the muscle memory of your tongue. If you already have a bad accent, then it'll take a while to fix it. You can try recording yourself and listening to the audio to check for mistakes, maybe have a native correct you.
Another thing, if you can't realize your own mistakes, then you simply lack ear training. Lots of listening to native English media is a prerequisite to being able to correct yourself.
Don't worry about pronunciation too much. The accent is less important. What matters is if you're getting the vowels right. Once you've passed that stage and can read and say everything right, then you can slowly work towards developing an accent by doing what I talked about above. You can even find a content creator you like and follow them online, listen to their stuff, and imitate.
If you're getting tired, then time box, and try not to push yourself. Something like the pomodoro, take a short break 5min and come back later. You need to practice, and there is no easy way, secret technique, method, or anything that will suddenly make life easier for you. Practice for 25min a day, and don't expect improvement within a week, month, half a year. Language is a life time journey, and progress is always slow, but it all adds up over long periods of time.
I consider myself fluent in English, yet I struggle to express my words sometimes, and I don't have a native accent. And that's okay, I'm happy with that personally. Lately, I've just been trying to read out loud, and if I notice any mistakes, I re-read and correct, focusing more on saying it right, because I already know what sounds right and what doesn't, my ears are trained. Yours may be not.
If you're still unsatisfied with my answer, there's a long detailed guide with methods, techniques you can follow here that many ppl follow and have worked for them. https://refold.la/roadmap/stage-3/overview
Patience, persistence, and enjoyment. Those are the keys you'll need. ***Stick to this and it will get easier ***. That's called the growth mindset, and it's an important mindset to have. You can do it 👍
hii, if you don’t find anyone im here💜
if you want i wanna to improve my English too !
we can communicate !

Hallo, is there any native/good level German speaker I could ask a few questions if possible? I'm catching up with my course and learning by myself and I have a few doubts. It's nothing super hard, almost trivial but i would like to hear what a good German speaker has to say.
I have to submit an essay [english] but i would like someone to read it and help me with anything i may have written wrong or that needs to be improved. Is there anyone that would like to help me?
Use chatgpt
To check the mistakes

Hi !
Can anyone help me figure out a method to study french , i really need that
I mean any youtube vedio or any tips
I mostly only use Busuu and Duolingo for revision but also like to watch movies/videos or listen to audio from time to time (duolingo has a podcast with short stories at an intermediate level)
Duolingo French Podcast: https://open.spotify.com/show/2Mu5dTlsG1vRE25twu1P2l?si=c-iOB5ARQDW3h6dj2sv8kQ
hello! i'm trying to learn german/dutch. does anyone have any advice? (also if anyone wants we can study together, i can help with english, french and arabic if needed)
have you started learning? oe do you need tips on how to study (if ur current study method isn't working). Kindly elaborate please.
Hey! I am currently learning German, and I gotta say, it isn't easy. Try to focus more on grammar, since it is quite different from English. In German, everything, even objects, are assigned genders, which I found a bit unusual and hard to learn. So yeah, try to focus on der die das. I hope this helps!
Hi ! , Thank you for your attention
I am an A2 you could say , i studied french before but not constantly so i forgot.
I am using anki since more than a week , but couldn't find any decent deck
I am in a loss for what to do honestly. I hope i get some help because i seriously need it
Thank you a lot >< .
I tried Duolingo but it didn't help , the program looked unorganized.. at least for me
I dont recommend it for learning, but for simple random revision its fine imo
.. You should look into Busuu, it connects you with native speakers and when you do an exercise you can choose to share it with them so you can get feedback
I am gonna try it , thanks for your help !
There's an easy example French sentence deck on Anki web, I'm pretty sure
I'm gonna check again, thank you
Here
https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/1089240419
So this is ordered from easy to hard
If there's a word you don't know in the sentence, you can look it up and add it on the back of the card
Thank you so much , I'm gonna try it , so thankful
https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/893324022
This one only contains lone words, but I don't recommend it because you don't have the context of the sentence
Having simple sentences you gradually understand and gets more complicated is better, because you're comprehending language
Find what works for you :)
One last recommendation
https://refold.link/french
should have an infinite amount of resources on learning french
This follows the following guide on the site, but you don't need it https://refold.la/
Hey! I'm a native german speaker. German is not the most difficult language, even tho it's not easy either. German grammar has some bad reputation, but if you learn the rules, you'll notice fast that german grammar has nearly no exceptions. If you start to learn german, I'd give you the advice to directly learn every noun with the fitting article and the plural version of it. This will make your studies way easier. It's also kinda important to learn some simple stuff directly (e.g. german nouns start with a capital letter). The problem about learning languages like German is, that you won't find as much help in the web as for other languages (like english for example). Don't try to read/listen the most difficult stuff you can find in german, start with some children stories, easy songs or series you already know in another language.
as another German native speaker, i 2nd this ^
3rd this XD

Okay, I see. I've been there at some point but this year I started being pretty serious. first of all, duolingo and these apps are crap. I would say, start over once again, learn the basic regular verbs (er [-yer,-cer,-ger], ir and re ending). soon turn over to pronominal verbs. once you learn all these basic verbs in daily use (also please don't forget to learn the numbers, it may seem easy but these are important part as well). My advice is using books(may seem oldschool) but these are super helpful because you get endlessss amount of exercises on one topic + answers for reference + some tricks. Also doing French communities and trying to make basic conversation will help put what you learned to use, trust me. don't just keep learning. Also some short online lectures can surely help with topics you are unable to understand from the books definitely. Once you have mastered regular verbs, do learn some irregular verbs in daily use. Good luck!! you got this 🤍
oh and please please do atleast 30 mins of French everyday . may seem a little less but it will help you so much. the biggest mistake I made was not being regular 😭🥲
How good is anki ?
very good if you give your best effort
For how long should I do this everyday to be the most efficient ?
not about how long, more about staying consistent. If you try for few weeks then stop using anki procrastinating (like me) then it not going to help you.
One of my friend started using it and keeps using everyday and yeah he achieved his goals nicely because of that. i hope this helps
It helps a lot, thanks !

@royal zephyr while filling the JLPT form, what should i mention in the institution from where i am studying or studied the japanese language
?
can you choose self studying among the options?
no there isnt any option like that
there is none of the above though
then choose this one
I never had this issue because I learned it in uni so
oh
my uni also teaches but the fee is huge so i didnt go with it
all I could find in the house is this. Looks like I need to buy a book
Since I cant find genki in greek stores, i think im gonna buy "Japanese from zero!"
i suggest you buy genki or marugoto instead
marugoto is pretty conversation bassed, so its a book good for a person who wants to step up his/her game in having japanese conversations
alright i will consider buying genki
i made some progress from that book and also some resources from that big google sheets thingy and I learned the first 15 Hiragana Characters.
does it worth to train writing hiragana and katakana and other things then in japanese? I am just worried when I can't remember how to write sounds and words that I use. It's seems strange for me just to look or hear them without practice writing
because duolingo or anki or other apps just force u to visually remember symbols
you don't have to rush through lessons or cards in neither of them and take your time to separately write out the answer
Nope
You're not visually remembering symbols
You're recognizing the symbols you see before you, and recall how to read them i.e. how they sound
In a JP keyboard, you type the kana you see before you
On PC, you type in romaji and the program will convert it to kana
The literal only place you will ever need writing is when you need to do paperwork, but you have to remember how to write the kana to write it down
Conversely, you're not remembering how to write anything. You see the kana before you, so all you do is remember how it sounds.
If you think that writing still helps. Go for it. It is my belief that writing is a waste of time, as I had regrettably done so in the past.
cool thanks
got you

hi . i need a little help . can someone tell me what antonymy reversive is ?
Antonymy is a relationship between two words that have opposite meanings. For example, "hot" and "cold" are antonyms because they have opposite meanings.
Reversive, on the other hand, refers to a situation where the meaning of a word is reversed or inverted. For example, the verb "to inflate" means to fill something with air, while its reversive counterpart "to deflate" means to release air from something.
Therefore, antonymy reversive refers to the relationship between two words that have opposite meanings and one of the words involves a reversal of the action or concept described by the other word.

any recommendations of arabic grammar guidebooks and exercise books
I am native Arabic speaker, I don't know any names but go for the kids grammar guidebooks if you can find any. It's the base you're gonna need and with time the rest kinda comes naturally
ohh good idea
I am an intermediate in English. At the moment it is difficult for me to find suitable vocabulary to learn and also the right method. Would you suggest me to learn from my mother tongue to English or should I rather learn from English to English? And what do you think of learning the Oxford 5000 List? Thank u for ur help in advance
Learn words as you encounter them. You can do this with flash cards and a English - English dictionary app on your phone. Pick up a novel. If you don't know what to read, then just look up English books used in class, and read those. If you encounter a word you don't know, look it up, and then add it to a flashcard app called Anki. The front side should contain the word you want to learn, and the back should contain the dictionary definition. Now all you have to do is READ A LOT, and study your flashcards.
For intermediate-advanced learners who struggle with finding vocabulary to learn, you won't find anything useful in lists. And worse, the words are not in context, and context is important for comprehension. I advice using an English - English because it sounds like you already have enough to comprehend a lot, and I think it's more wise to focus purely on English while you're trying to learn it, as English has its own quirks, culture, meanings, etc. Idioms for example can't exactly be translated. The meaning in English is better.
Besides, that's just more English, so more practice for you.
And also vocabulary will be tailored to content you will actually use. If you wanna learn stuff for reading the news, read articles. If you wanna read fiction, read Harry Potter.
Thank u for ur advice. It helps a lot. I think the most important step is to start.
That is correct ^^ good luck!
