what you could do is look at your local universities and read every single course they have.
I dont know if they do it in your case, but as a last year in high school, we all got papers from the unies in my country with all the courses on it:
what classes each course has
what you could do with it, later on in the future
what would be a good pre-requisit
read ALL of it, and mark what you find the most attractive, most fitting for you
try to go to open days, and talk with students, professors
One tip: Look at what YOU find interesting, do not let yourself influence by friends, family, surroundings. University is mostly having persiverence and the will power to push trough.
Hey idk if this the right place to share this but I could use some help, a very good longtime friend of mine who is autistic is dealing with derealization and is very depressed, I want to help him and obviously i have told him multiple times that the only way of getting better is not getting too stuck in the past and moving forward, but i am aware that changing things or transitioning to new things is not easy for him. So for those that have experience with autistic friends/loved ones or if you are autistic, how can I help my friend move forward and be happier without overwhelming him too much?
my friend who struggled with DDD told us to call her by her name when her symptoms started to creep up on her, and keep her busy by talking about something even if its random af, so i can say distracting her with something helped her focus on something and she'd not be detached from reality this way
this type of thing could work different for everyone, but i think it is worth trying

yo can i get some sleep advice? i always get into bed at 8:30 and my alarm is at 6:30. sometimes ill wake up earlier to use the bathroom or ill just wake up and lay there, but i always fall back asleep afterward until my alarm which ik isnt healthy but its so hard to get up that early for me even with a long sleep

you need something to motivate you to be awake for a while. It seems counter-productive, but get up and play a video game (because its something that will wake you up) to get your body in the rhythm of waking up at that time. Eventually stop playing the video game in the morning and switch it out with something productive. This worked for me a while back and I was able to wake up on time to get things done.

I'm conflicted about that last piece of advice because what if someone likes painting and art. No disrespect ofc it's a cool job but how easy is it to land a job in such an abstract field where it's a consumer good with not that much demand until a certain level? Compared to other careers like in stem I'm sure there is high demand so you'll likely have that safety blanket . I'm saying this as someone who won't go into stem because I'm not interested in it. What would you advise someone who wants a career in such a field ? i would say, 1. help him build new / healthy habits that will help with depression and excecutive functions (if they don't have to plan it it's maybe easier to just do): like going outside to walk, drinking enough water etc...
2. keep communication extremely clear and direct at all times (that goes for non depressed but yk, depression adds up to the overload)
3. Be very patient and show that you're here for him (whitin his boundaries ofc, he may not answer your texts sometimes because even that can be exhausting) 🫂

its really just the concept of discipline, nobody ever gets anything done with motivation because motivation fluctuates, but if you have discipline, the ability to get it done even without motivation simply because you have to, then you will succeed. make it a habit, set a designated time every day or every week to do that thing until it becomes like brushing your teeth. no one enjoys it but no one has "no motivation" for it either (unless youre struggling with something mentally which is valid) bc for us its just a task we do. we dont think about it
you dont need motivation to get dressed every morning or to make your breakfast or go to school, you do it because you have to and you think nothing of it
I can give you some advice but you need to open your DM's
Whenever the motivation dissappears remind yourself why are u doing this and be doing your best everytime you are studying
And i hate to say this but dont be relying on motivation
Bec the motivation will indeed disappear when u dont get the best results
Or when u dont feel like studying

Just never let your confidence down because I did the same and because of that I kept thinking what's the point now I can't do it with little time left and that messed up everything for me

Its juat U r still lacking to be disciplined and there is no shame abt it

For ex if u did want to study daily
U will everyday be giving up having ur time on social media , and u will have to not use ur phone to sleep early
Being disciplined is just doing what u gotta do despite any distraction u will face
So as i do tbh so i would advice u to write on a paper or a sticky paper , a very important goal for u and write a phrase for u when u will read it whenever u r felling trash or ur wasting time and u had a glance over that phrase it will give u hope again and will make u work

Help me helf myself.. how do i focus for +- 17 hours a day ? I feel like i have add but thats just my prediction. Anyways are there any tips or things that help? Early on i do well but after like 8 ish hours i start to slack.
I myself haven't done more than 10, but I guess the key factor to consider is how you rest and recharge once you lose that mental capacity to focus.
I have heard James say he sees meditation as refueling his engine as that recharges him and hence he does it thrice a day to just recharge and get back that energy.
Which is why I have been trying meditation but for me personally till now only coffee and naps work.
That's interesting I don't really drink tea or coffee that much but they have no stimulating effect on me personally . I think my main problem is mood swings that change my mental state and either make me like sort of panic out of the zone or start reading more quickly. I can't control my emotions which lead to me not controlling my actions as a result

There is this app that I am using rn, it is called “not boring habits”, this is like a clean design simple one, and pretty useful, I mean you can go for a more complex system in notion - like what i have been doing for over 2 years - but I think it takes lots if maintenance time and effort, if you are asking about the philosophy behind sticking to habits, I think it is all about discipline 🤷♂️، but you can investigate into the topic more of you consider this as a long investment in your self, regarding studying I think you just need to do time blocking every day, like a schedule, you can do it on your calendar or on a whiteboard and try to stick to it…

Yeah but remember safety is the biggest concern alright? I mean all your academics and stuff you will manage and handle, but you gotta take care by not being outside after dark and not getting into trouble etc. Plus if you find a residing place with good roommates it's safer

As a one having the same problem for the next 2 weeks and had the same problem the last semester
Being worried will just make u stressed,unfocused,cant determine which one to study for the 4 exams,and u will be asking urself how to be studying and doing the project at the same time
And sadly after all of that negative thoughts u will end up failing bec u didnt do good enough for studying bec u were scared before even anything happened

I think 48hrs is plenty of time. I wrote a 2000 word final paper in 10hrs (with chatgpt ofc) and don't think about making the essay perfect because I used to do that and it would keep me from writing anything. Just write, write, and write. You can edit and make your thoughts more coherent but first priority should be to just brain dump everything on your doc.

Used to love physics back in high school, going into uni and studying physics it was kind of an overload and started to doubt if it was something for me. But then I realised, after some time, why I loved it so much. So sit down and think to yourself why you love it, and why you trive in it. I'm sure you'll get back to it.
For me it was the mental challenge and sitting on being able to sit on a problem for a few hours and coming to the solution afterwards. It's looking at the world from a whole different perspective. Being able to be a nerd around people and not get judged. All beautiful things. And of course, the mathematics behind it

I would say environment matters a lot, if you have a very distracting environment (TV, phone, computers, games etc), i would find a place either outside like a library or some secluded place in your house where it forces you to work on your tasks and makes it much more of an inconvenience to get distracted, like putting your phone in a different room

or keeping an accountability partner to update him with your daily to-do list

I think doing 10 hours a day is too much if you’re not used to doing that/ building up to that
I started intense studying for 4-7 hours a day just for 2 weeks and got burnt out from doing that. In my opinion you should gradually build up to that hour amount if it’s really necessary. In my opinion, you can achieve optimal results by studying correctly less than 5 hours a day, no need to do 10 hours, but honestly that depends where you’re from and what stage in life you’re at( are you in high school? , are you studying for entrance exams( ik some countries have crazy ones)?, are you in college? )
Ngl I'm not in college rn but I study for self development I like studying online and gaining skills from online courses
Pace yourself. You overestimate how much focus you have. Your retention rates are far lower if you try to study for that long. If you're not used to it, anything over 4 hours is unfeasible.
It takes lots of practice at a lower amount of time to really get used to that level of effort. Once you're comfortable and can hold your focus for that long, you can start studying like a med student..... but.....
Even among the med students, there are a handful of students that do exceptionally well, and they usually study for fewer hours than the rest reportedly......
Must have something to do with study efficiency and techniques instead of effort.

Just depends on ur tolerance levels, weight in relation to caffeine intake, and also if u have some type of neurodivergency( I heard that caffeine can have a calming effect for many people with adhd)

Can you guys tell me different ways to enrich my vocabulary in a language ?
- read alot: of course depending on yout level you will not need / acquire vocab the same. You could go for children's books, or a more "specialised" topic as you progress.
- listen to anything related to the topics that you are already familiar with in the first place or related to topics you know so the transition isn't too hard (if you like a challenge sure go for the topic you know nothing about): podcasts, radio, tv or youtube skits, films, music lyrics, anything really.
- writing a journal in that language. This way you put into practice things you've learned, read, listened, and even some words that you didn't think about in the first place but need in order to communicate or express what you want to write about. You could do that in an audio form too, though it is challenging at first.

You said you feel less emotions now— but maybe that’s because you’re not around people as much? Also, we remember the negatives in life much more easier than the positive because humans are hardwired to do so for their own protection, so maybe that’s why sadness and anger really stick out to you— of course being in isolation and potentially not seeking out fun activities that would bring you high levels of happiness could be at a deficit… I don’t know your full situation, go to concerts by yourself or make posts abt the concert— maybe u will meet new friends 🙂 ( if that’s what you are interested in) , just try doing things that are perceived as ‘friend’ activities by yourself , or invite new or old friends to do them with you.
And your loneliness is not your fault, our society is becoming more isolated and it is definitely not the same as it was a decade ago when it came to making friends. I find it really hard to make friends, especially since I’m neurodivergent and go to a competitive university. I think sometimes it is just your environment, try finding local icommunities or clubs with your interests or join one if you’re in school.
Live life for yourself and do things you love. If you don’t like working out, change your routine or just take a break. I think it’s important to say that it’s OK to take a break— people do not say this enough. I run a lot and felt the need to run everyday because it’s “healthy”— in reality, it is just hurting me. Rest is equally as important. Rest and ease your routine until you are content with it and it’s not something you have to drag through because you think it’s expected of you.
The biggest problem is that our society tries too hard to maximize the external factors and not focus on the very important internal work. That is something that will take years of practice and work, and maybe looking into therapeutic work.
I used to do that a lot but after reading few books I learned that only you can make yourself happy. I tried going out in nature and it really helped I noticed you must feel things more rather than speak about it.
For me going out in nature helps a lot

how do i stop like side tracking whenever I take a break from studying like today my mom just called me while i was studying to tell me somethign and i ended up cleaning my whole room and sweeping my kitchen (tasks thats were 100% not urgently needed to be done)
its so bad cuz i have a final in two days and ive only gotten through 2 out of 9 chapters
like i feel like i can only work under extreme pressure
In this case maybe a change of environment without distractions might help you, maybe go to the library to study for finals or tell the people that you live with that you will be studying from this hour to that hour and to not disturb you, I'm sure they understand
i get this too but in general without having your phone around or any social media on while just staring at your computer (and no distractions to get up to) it's pretty easy to get into work
but yeah a change of environment really helps, go to a library or the upstairs of a cafe where nobody is and just work there
for me my house is pretty noisy but i'm lucky to have noise cancelling headphones + some brown noise i put on to block everything out
but working outside or just anywhere but your desk can help you lock in for like a good 6 hours+
without even really feeling it

I’d say it depends on your own disposition and your relationship with those around you.
Humans are social creatures so when majority (or even a few) of a crowd indicate that your behaviour is not in alignment with what they believe is right, you feel guilty
It could also deeper rooted issues like self-worth and if you are sensitive to the validation provided by others, then you could feel guilty about that.
Ultimately if you have a strong moral compass and are confident that the decision you are making is the right one, that’s all that matters. You only need to live with the decisions you make. Don’t let it linger in your mind longer than it needs to

what are some alternatives to tracking productivity by time? i find that it's easy to do so with most topics but it quickly becomes a hassle with anything technical. for example when learning to code, it's often difficult to track progress as time isn't exactly an accurate method of measuring productivity/percentage of work done. i also can't work through a list of to-do's as i have no idea what problems may arise as i'm working through the project. how can i build a system to track my learning day to day?
is there any particular reason why you wanna track your productivity by time? since from what you said you seem aware very well of the conditions of your work, so I assume time might not be the top prioritized factor?
i usually track productivity by time as it's easy to manage with everything else i self-study. it also allows me to improve on deep work which is a concept i've recently come across from a book
though it gets less accurate with technical subjects as i mentioned. with programming specifically, i don't know how i should best track my progress and productivity. time isn't necessarily an accurate representation of the amount of work done and it's not possible to create a to-do list as new problems show up all the time

well, i've tried creating a to-do list. like if i'm coding something i'll have a to-do which says "create user authentication" for example. that doesn't really work with the other things i do because i don't know how much time it takes, so balancing everything else becomes difficult
and on a similar note timing myself isn't very helpful
in that case i'd take longer to go through that list on some days more than others which could get in the way of anything else i'd want to study that day

I used to have the same problem as you with my project. when I don't know what will happen throughout a project, i'll make it flexible while being aware of time limitations for example, I would set a deadline for the whole task with a shallow but comprehensive to-do list
ex.
Project 1 estimated a duration of seven days.
Day1: Complete task 1; Day2: Complete task 2; Day3: Complete task 3; Days 4–7: Leave it if any unforeseen problems happen
If you like, you can detail your to-do list every day or as frequently as you desire.

As someone who hid it for years and just got help recently, he needs professional help, and that can't come from friends or family. My mom is a healthcare professional, yet she realized that even for her my problems were beyond her scope.
It's also not healthy for you to have to act as a therapist for him as his friend, especially long term. If you're in high school, your school has a school psychologist, have him speak with that person. An adult needs to know what's going on so he can get help, because it only gets worst the more you hide it.

I recommend this book, think it's called How to Stop Worrying and Start Living by Dale Carnegie, it helps with perspective, besides that, that kind anxiety is rough, I can relate to the fainting, nausea and inability to function as a regular human being, if you can get CBT (behavior therapy) it would help if you can afford it of course, don't rely on medications (my personal advice)
Mindfulness help's, try spending quiet time in nature, get a pet(cat or dog) they help with stress, there's a breathing technique it's called physiological sigh, perspective matters the most
Another personal advice, I'm a Christian since a year and having faith that there's a God who cares for your wellbeing we're invited to cast all our worries on God, I was an anxious agnostic(my anxiety was pretty bad as well) but now I'm mostly worried at the very least.

im extremely addicted to my phone and really want to start dopamine detox. its basically rewiring the dopamine receptors of your brain to diverge your dopamine triggers to more productive things like books , a walk in the park , exercising etc. you can try doing that aswell

Hey guys, I just started my CS degree for 2 months but I've been overwhelmed by the workload. I try to listen to music, exercise, eat healthily yet all this college work is really making me depressed and anxious all the time. I'm not like most people, who had coding basics when they were in hs. I started from scratch, and there are a lot of missing pieces of knowledge gap are needed from me to meet the demands of the assignments and deadlines.
Sometimes I even question, why am I sacrificing my mental health and weekends just for studying....The seniors at my uni don't really have time to mentor me despite me asking them for help, as there's nothing in it for them. I have social anxiety as well so I barely have the energy to socialize with my peers. I feel like I'm an imposter among my peers who can learn insanely quick and smart.
Any tips for a beginner? How can I continue my studies without feeling demotivated? I'm also looking for a mentor for programming (python and java) If anyone is willing to answer my doubts whenever. I'm honestly so tired. Appreciate if there is some advice given.

sounds like you are already doing a lot to manage your stress and to maintain a healthy schedule.
you’ve put yourself out there by asking for people to mentor you and that is quite brave as it can be difficult to do so. imposter syndrome can be extremely difficult to shake, but you should keep a reminder somewhere that comparing yourself to others is not sustainable at all. you all have different starting* points, different influences throughout your life, and different personalities. if you feel at any point, jealousy or envy, ask yourself if you wish to be that person - with their history, their hardships, their flaws. at best, you feel momentarily superior from comparing yourself to others, at worst you feel like there is no longer any point is striving towards your goal
following on from the above, I would recommend keeping a list of goals you have achieved. so perhaps having a to-do list, but also keeping a list of what you’ve done. e.g in semester 1 you completed X assignments, connected with 5 new people etc. and when you look back at it, you can see how far you’ve come, not just how far you have left to go

I'm in a similar place, but I'm currently experimenting with it. If you have a mountain of stuff to do maybe just try to split up individual tasks into very specific steps that you can realistically accomplish in short time/without investing much mental energy and set that task to finish within an hour/2 hours. It might seem much less daunting then. Aside from that don't beat yourself down and if you find yourself losing focus try and go for a walk for an hour or anything that will have you change the scenery and activity. You can keep thinking about whatever you are studying and dictate ideas you get into your phone to be used later on.
I got your point, have you tried finishing your assignments as soon as you get assigned? And also it’s maybe not about the study technique since i believe you have tried many of it and you seem to be passionate about studying (that’s very good). I recommend you to try talking with psychologist or mental coach, maybe you will be able to find the real answer for what to be remedied. I’d love to hear if there’s anything you feel like to tell more.

i know this is kinda basic advice but try going out with your friends or going out and doing exercise, basically just see the sun, it does a lot more then sitting inside. You could also try meditation if you feel like your mind keeps going back to your stress. But please don't go back to smoking, its really disgusting, smells bad, bad for your health, makes your skin age quicker, yellows your teeth, makes your lungs black, gives you a really bad cough and does a million other things that provide no benefit to you.

Im in my last year of my career, I am already working on my thesis as well. It's been a month now that I feel stuck in a black hole. I got sick and that made me late with my deadlines.
And right now I feel sad? idk I feel like I lost my motivation, im very tired and im like a stupid npc, who just gets out of bed, lives on automatic and goes back to bed.
The reality is that I cannot complete any deadline and I continue to fall further and further behind. Is there anything I can add to my daily routine? or something idk
I know it could be very hard to walk on long run especially for big projects as thesis so it’s normal to feel this way. everybody does sometimes.
the point is besides being student with loads of work, you are still a girl with life. maybe you should take some day off (real day off, no thoughts about work) and focus on your hobbies or anything you enjoy to make yourself refreshed. And for long run working, it’s better to keep doing the other things along with to distract you from tiresome/boredom from work or else you will keep burning out and it’s also ok if you will be easy with yourself sometimes, nobody could run all the time. So for the first step, why don’t you try feel the sun warmth and touch the moisture of the grass, going out of the room even just for breathing fresh air is important!
