o god thats hard to answer since i am struggeling myself with it a lot now. I usually try to keep myself really busy to not give my brain time to think about the past and then in the eve when i have time i allow myself to think about the past and maybe talk with my best friend about it if it gets tooo overwhelming. And i also belive seeking attention can be a good thing but if you want to reduce it maybe read a book or do something good for yourself like going on a walk, work out or buy something.
