what genre is it?
I'm not sure how to describe it but I would say ancient greek drama/romance
ok ty
my pleasure
hey guys, any recommendations of good books for learning spring boot?
hiii can anyone recommend „to kill a mockingbird” by harper lee? what is it about, as well? please tag me if you plan to respond <3
no there arent any. nothing compares to it.
@eternal cradle ABSOLUTELY THAT I RECOMMEND IT
I have read few classics (4 or 5) but it is without a doubt my favorite.
I don't want to explain anything so as not to ruin the book, but we see the racial discrimination, the prejudices ... of Alabama (1935) through the eyes of Jean Louise, daughter of a lawyer (she is small, she is about six years old, if I remember correctly ) that he has to defend a black man accused of raping a white girl.
guys read the song of achilles it's so good!
guys can u recommend me some romance books that have academic rivals trope pls like both of them r smart nd competitive in class, most of the time they only argue about school stuffs
all the bright places
mmm i watched the movie, they didn’t get a happy ending T-T is the book better? i’ve read like 5pages of it when i went to the bookstore n it’s pretty interesting
the way the book is written is unique
the writer presents a view from both sides
about the ending, i dont want to say anything (SPOILER)
i would recommend to read the book
hey missed a whole lot in the movie
I knoww it's a masterpiece but I hope to find something similar 😅
okayyy thanks!!!
thank you so much ! <333
Hey, anyone can recommend any books revolving around self-discipline? I am rather lacking in that department and I want to sober up before the new semester starts. Thank you!
How to Stop a Climate Disaster by Bill Gates. Incredibly accessible for anybody looking to learn more about climate change, even if it makes some omissions.
Not sure who recommended The Sailor who fell from Grace with the Sea but I finished it today. Found it difficult to read, and especially found some parts to be implausible. The ending was captivating, however. Great descriptions as well.
Atomic Habits is the one that'll be recommended 90 percent of the time in this Discord. Not really big on self-discipline books, but I love things that inspire me. If you're a fellow writer, try Steal like an Artist by Austin Kleon. That got me to write with more vigour than any self-help book haha.
Has anyone read mindset by carol dweck?
Reading pdf on laptop or real books or kindle?
Thank you.
pdfs on laptop arent very comfortable for reading
using a kindle is similar to reading a real book
so KINDLE is best option..
✨real books✨
im currently reading 12 rules for life by dr jordan peterson, would definitely recommend it.
But the feel of a physical book, the smell of a new book especially when you turn the pages, the beautiful, creative and funny bookmarks you leave within the book to remind where you left off, the beautiful bookshelf you dream of building and a book and a coffee side by side.
These things kinda make it magical for me. So physical books FTW. ✨✨
has anyone read Rich Dad, Poor Dad by by Robert Kiyosaki?
Thank you, Navya!😊
Thanks, Minah!😊
Thank you.😊
Yes, totally recommended
Hi, guys. Does anybody know about a book about disperssion of the light?
Guys, is reading/observing a book in Kindle while listening to audiobook is good/healthy?
Thank you.😊
i dont think so no
you cant understand 2 books at once
Thanks
I'd say you need to be prepared to read this book. I read it years ago and it didn't help me much..
Sorry, i should have asked my doubt properly, i was askin, reading same book while listening to audiobook of same book simultaneously, it acts like a narrator. Is it good?
nope i dont think so..
if you narate the book to yourself you can better your spoken english and understand it better ig
Okay, i got your point.
Thank you very much, Navya!😊🤝
Is it a retelling of Odyssey as a whole or does it simply revolve around Circe?
The title suggests the latter hahaha
yeah even i think its the latter lol
Just finished reading If We Were Villains by M.L Rio, I highly recommend it 😊
Omg this is on my autumn/winter tbr and I’m soooo excited to read it ahah
How did you find it?? (No spoilers lol)
You will not be disappointed IMO!!! I stumbled upon it when I was searching for thrillers in Goodreads... looking at the reviews I decided to read it ASAP! lmk if you've read it would love your thoughts
ooo i havent read thrillers in a long time and i came across the book after reading The Secret History... If We Were Villains is the next book on my tbr haha... ill let you know when i start reading it :))
If you're looking for thrillers, you should definitely try stuff by Frederick Forsyth
anybody got any teen fiction recommends
or maybe smthing like handmaids' tale?
YA or NA??
三島由紀夫全集!!全巻!
—-Complete collection of Yukio Mishima works! Whole volume: Reccomend 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

What does this mean???
it is the hormone of happiness. When I see things that I like they make me happy, and the collection is beautiful
Ok I understand! Thank you
i dodnt get you..
YA means young adult and NA means new adult. the genre.

Hi everyone, I'd love to read about U.S. politics as it is one of the things I'm passionate about! Would you guys have any recommendations on good books?
great
can you tell me the name of that tale/nobel about a man who falls in love with the painting of a knight and then ends up disgusted when he finds out the knight was actually Joan of Arc?
remember the roses
i love it!
finally finished reading this beauty, it’s a masterpiece. highly highly recommend 👌🏽
ooh i've been intrigued by this one, it seems to be very popular; i might give it a chance soon (not that my tbr does need any more addition
)
Ayy same I have been seeing it everywhere…
Yey, Pewdiepie's fav author 😄 😂
Does anybody have a recommendation for mystery and romance books? Any of your favorites?
mystery + romance book : Verity by Colleen Hoover and maybe Layla too
Romance books: Colleen hoover's books 😂
- The unhoneymooners
- The Spanish love deception
- swear on this life
- Retrieval and Transfer by Aly Martinez
- The pact by Karina Halle
Any depressing coming of age books recommendation
When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves - Viktor Emil Frankl
Can anyone recommend something similar to Interview with the Vampire?
abandoned this book that i stole from my dad for years, finally decided to read it, and it’s now my favourite book of all time. was i living under a rock?
this is a piece of art. highly recommended; 1984 by George Orwell
oh yes! this was the first book which got me into dystopian literature... you should also try Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
‘Crescent city’ by sjm if u like fantasy as well
Oh I somehow got Fahrenheit for free the other day
Have u read ‘brave new world’ by any chance? I have the option to get it for a lower price but I’m not certain whether I want to…
alright i’ll add that to my to-read list, thank you! ✨
will start reading it, thanks for the recommendation James
I've read it. It's absolutely life changing.
okok im gonna buy if we were villains or we were liars(was that the name-), which one should I get first?
is atomic habit a really good book or another self improvement bs scam
i found it to have very good points and a very comprehensive style; but ig you should read it for yourself to be able to juge it
I read both when I was younger…. Start with ‘We were liars’ i guess… or not lol. Look them up on goodreads and start with whichever has fewer stars maybe. I can’t remember them very well - it was a long time ago. Have fun.
u mean brave new world?
Yes that one ma bad
Really good book, unlike everything else in the self help genre, it constantly gives studies and evidence that supports its points, is not so vague that it becomes impossible to implement, not so specific that the greater majority of it is unrelatable
if we were villains
It's a very good book imo. I haven't read any other self-help book so I can't make a comparison with most "bs scams" out there
need manga or graphic novel recommendations
recommendation: the gospel of John in the Bible (4th book in the second half, ESV or NLT versions are good) 🙂
you can read it online here! https://www.esv.org/John+1/
What genre
This copy was made in 1948?
Rom-com : Horimiya(personal fav but some chapters are cut in anime series,[if you would in case watch it too in addition to the paperback] need to read book or e-manga) , Rent a Girlfriend, I had that same dream again, Let Me Eat Your Pancreas.
Thriller : Tokyo Ghoul, Death Note
Superhero : Naruto, One Piece, My Hero Academia, Attack on Titan, Fullmetal Alchemist, Demon Slayer.
yeah, pages are all orange and brown, very fragile by now, but the font and ink is perfect
aah. historical artifact @hallow thunder
is there a website or app like where i get book recommendations and discover feature something etc...
kindle app or goodreads
kindle recommends me self help only@gleaming juniper havent tried goodreads. i guz i should try it
romance, horror, psychological thriller, slice of life, or action
thank yooou ✨
Anyone read ‘The Day of the Jackal’ by Frederick Forsyth.? My friend didn’t enjoy it as much and so now I am not entirely convinced whether I should pick it up myself. (The backstory seems pretty interesting as well)
I have, I found it to be a very gripping read
Horror :- Junji Ito works like Uzumaki and No Longer Human
Psychological thriller :- Monster, 20th Century Boys
Slice of Life :- Barakamon, Blue Period, 3 gatsu no Lion
I read some of frederick forsyth's fourth protocol. He is quite good
wowow i read them all except 3 gatsu no lion and blue period 💀 thankss i’ll add both to to-read list ✨
Oh cool I see…Thank youuu < 3
I heard that one’s a catch as well despite its slow start.
Thanks git
recommend me a masterpiece, in your opinion. it can be a novel short story. novella . poem. screenplay
something that will make me rethink my existence in this planet
forgive me leonard peacock
handmaids tale
thanks@gleaming juniper
A Confederacy of Dunces
It's funny because he's defining himself, he truly was disgusting, but down to earth.
Is it a novel? The name itches me to buy a copy
The paperback of the book is costlier than hardcover in amazon... bezos, what r u trying to say
It is, you'll like it if you like satire, know about religion, have read the classics or just like good comedy.
my favourite classic comedy was three men in a boat. have to try this one
Tsuki ga michibiku. The light novel, not anime nor manga
Thanks @sly spruce
We Have Always Lived in the Castle, you could give this book a go
If you enjoyed Three Men in a Boat I'd recommended: To Say Nothing of the Dog. It's a very fun and light-hearted and also references that book multiple times!
Throne of glass
For Git?
Anyone here who read The Silent Patient? What are your thoughts?
nah but ive red that authors new book the maidens
it has this like dark academia vibe and the ending linked to his debut book the silent patient which was really cool
is the silent patient good tho ? @modest birch
Hi peeps out there!
I need a little bit of help.
My little sister is about to turn 18 and I'd like to gift her a book. I don't want to gift her just anything, I want to give a book to her that helps her grow and be more herself. At the same time it should help her figure out things and put down the fear of doing something new.
I appreciate every recommendation, thanks in advance!
its a fantasy book series that, imo, is really good
hmm, thats tough
i would say the hobbit but idk if she will enjoy it as much as i did
I’ve read the series. I was just unsure if the recommendation was for the git guy or not that’s all < 3
forgive me leonard peacock -- matthew quick
its about an 18 yr old guy's 18th birthday and its events
its a book that has changed my outlook on life
you can read about it online
the writer has literally put up the plan of the book on the cover
no spoilers given
oh sorry my bad, no it was not just in general. what do you think of it?
Oh okay lol. Thought so cause it didn’t match what he was requesting.
And of course i loved tog hehe. Regardless of how much I hate it… for now i will devour anything sjm writes unfortunately. I am not a fan of the acotar series (I actually quite despise them for many reasons. I did like the last one tho) And I loved Crescent City which I would highly recommend if u haven’t read it yet. The main character is similar to Aelin.
ummm we are the same
excpet i have only read tog
cant spell lol
but who is ur fav character
top 3
go
Oh shit this is hard (keep in mind I haven’t read kingdom of ash. I started it but exams came up and so I decided to wait on it)
- manon
2.aelin /sorscha - Dorian….
Bonus: Abraxos and Fleetfoot ;b
But then… ahh idk… cause it has been such a long time since I have revisited the books man… I forgot the complexity of each character and how they felt on paper…
How about you?
omg bonuses yesssssss. YOU HAVEN'T READ KOA WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU
Mine: Dorian, Manon, Lysandra
god i love lysandra
Honourable mention: gavriel
HDVZYSVSU I knew I was in for a rideeee and I wouldn’t care for my examsssssssss if i started koa😮💨 My friend had read it by that point and she was so bloody emotionally drained💀
Hxhyxv i was close to putting her on third or second place!! Great now u are making me want to read the series again. I think i read queen of shadow 6 times btw.
READ ITTTTTTT
WELL THEN YOU SHOULD
EXAMS WILL COME AND GO
THE FUTURE IS NOW
KOAAAAAAA
its beautiful
i cried all three times i read it
I guess I’ll never fully get a break… true.
super chonker book
uni or highschool
See that fucking terrifies me cause I get easily attached to books. Like proper attached.
bro same, i cant stop thinking about them when i read them
and i get super attached to the characters as well
I um also get super angry at real life lol
like at life?
as in
if life had a physical embodiment
As in I get angry I cant do more with my life. Obv i am aware it’s fictional lol but idk still… it reminds me of how desperate I am to go into the world and just be passionate about stuff and the people… I crave to dip into the emotions that come with experiences. That might sound stupid but oh well it is what it is
we are the same person
istg
Hahahahhahaa
also
i prefer the fictional worlds to this world
they seem better
easier
and
i want to do a lot
but
i feel there is not enough time
oh well
Who doesn’t xD
Ah same…
its just hard
but what can you do
tog is amazing and that is good
haven't read it yet, i just don't know anyone who did, also the maidens sounds relly good
Is ‘Deep work’ a good book? I’m a student
I found it to be good
ohhh i see, ye its rlly gud especially if you like dark acad and stories that kind of links to greek myth.
just finished reading this, it was a good read:) thanks for sharing ✨
Gimme something that’ll make me think
crime and punishement, 1984 by orwell or anything by dostoyevksi
no clue how to spell his name
great books though
make you think
from the book “The Five Levels of Attachment by Don Miguel Ruiz Jr.”
not finished this book yet but so far it’s really good 👍🏽
Hey can anyone suggest a good book for my communication skill over any kind of person and also that can suggest how to be calm while speaking.
models by mark manson
it taught me how to communicate authentically, truthfully and effortlessly
just bought these, Siddhartha (printed in 1980) and Steppenwolf (1947)
I second this, Dostoevsky is good, specially C&P, Brothers Karamazov, Demons, Notes fron The Underground and The Idiot. start there, you can skip The Gambler tho.
The Pig that Wants to Be Eaten. It's a book about 100 thought experiments, moral paradoxes, philosophical questions with the goal of make you think, you may get an existential crisis from reading it.
Also, Do They Think You're Stupid by the same author, this one debunks a lot of falacies that people use to manipulate your thought and force their point across.
The gambler was shit
Imo
Kinda, that was my introduction to the Russians.
It was a rushed book, not what Dosto really wanted or pictured in the beginning, I see it as an incomplete work that's just a drafty shadow of what could have been another great piece of literature.
I just felt that it was not a true reflection of what dosto was capable of and a lot of his messages were not portrayed properly in that book
Anyone have any book recs about neuroscience/any physics concept ?? Keep in mind im a high schooler so 'dumbed-down' books would be appreciated 😊
Do you guys have any good book recommendations? Preferably sci-fi but any genre is good too.
his dark materials (trilogy) by philip pullman
handmaids tale is good too! very different though
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon is amazing, and also all the bright places by jennifer niven
Less by andrew sean. Not sci fi but a satire. Its fun though
thanks
hi ! has anyone purchased Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu from amazon ? im trying to get my hands on a copy but all the reviews im reading have something to say about awful translations, making it difficult to settle on a seller. any advice would be appreciated ! please @ me if you are able to help <3
just learn another language
definitly search for the best translation/translator of the book, but that depends on the editing and the Publishing house, as well as the date of the edition. I unfortunatly don't know about that specific book but i hope you can find a gem in your researches 🙂
The Tao that can be translated is not the eternal Tao
i made the mistake of getting lots of different translations of Tao Te Ching over the years until i realised they’re all giving the same message.
just try finding the one that you enjoy reading the most 👍🏽
my favourite translations are the Ursula Le Guin and John C.H. Wu translations but maybe that’s because its what i grew up reading
In this video, we tried showing how subtly facts about our history, either Vedic or recent history, are either changed or suppressed by anti forces and their tool being Books of NCERT.
Following the links of books you can explore
- Crimes against I...
ncert supressing hindus? i dont get it
@ornate valve @iron helm thank you so much for the help and advice !! i’ll definitely be looking at the translations you recommended.
Hi guys im new here
For film students, Rebel Without a Crew by Robert Rodriguez is a must read
a good start on yukio mishima? im gonna start reading spring snow but wanted to ask someone profound
Any good books? (preferably non-fiction or manga)
thanks alottt
np, also Sun and Steel is not strictly about bodybuilding as the image leads to believe. He has another bodybuilding manifesto, you can look it up on the web if you are into that.
S&S is about action over pure academic mental masturbation. Life is full of suffering and Mishima despises the man who wears his intelectuality as a jacket and pays full attention to it while ignoring all the beautiful vitality in front of him.
Life is a play, a tragedy. Purely intelectual men can create tragedy, but only men of action can interpret it on the stage and fully live it.
damn thats deep yeah im gonna look more into it, thanks alot gonna start reading the first one today
woahh you recommended this at perfect timing, I just started reading this and it’s soo good. you should read The Jaws Log and My First Movie too if you haven’t already 👌🏽
My First Movie sounds nice, I'll check it out. Thank you!
any non-fiction recommendations?
does someone have the pdf of "atomic habits"?
@grizzled jay check pins in #845877644599361576
okis, thxxx
Deep work or how to win friends and influence people or homo deus
Hi! Is there anyone who studies Film, go to film school or what ever. Because i need some book recommendations or books that you all read at the school or academy?
An Actor Prepares by Stanislavski is a good one
Anyone read “The Poppy War” trilogy? It’s a book my ex recommended to me. It’s on my reading list, and I might try it 😮
Has anyone read The Alice Network? If so, is it worth reading?
Has anyone read mastery by John greene
GUYSSS does anyone know in what order does james suggest reading the books (atomic habits/deep work/cant hurt me)?? i dont remember the order n i have the books n want to start them
you have the order right! See #useful-links if you want it confirmed ^^
Has anyone read Frank Herbert's Dune? it's the book that was recently adapted for film by denis villeneuve, i'm reading it and it's amazing, here's the recommendation
OMG IT'S WORTH IT, yes yes yes. I read the first chapter in pdf bc i didn't know if i would like it, and in the second page i felt in love with one of the main characters, so the next day I went to the bookshop and I bought it in paper. Read it
film grad here, here’s a few great ones i’d recommend other than the ones above;
On Film-Making by Alexander Mackendrick, On Directing Film, Blink of an Eye by Walter Murch, Directing Actors by Judith Weston, Five C's of Cinematography (one of my favourites✨), “Sculpting in Time” and “Films, Stills, Polaroids & Writings” - both by Andrey Tarkovsky, Making Movies by Sidney Lumet (another favourite✨), Sight, Sound, Motion by Herbert Zettl (expensive af but worth it imo)
Okay thank you!
DOES ANYONE USE "SEND TO KINDLE" OPTION FOR PDF?
these good?
Yeah. Read "Think Again or The journey beyond fear or The ministry of common sense*
any one arabic here ?
idk but linking your discord and facebook accounts doesnt sound like the brightest of ideas cus its the internet
?
.
Recommendation to stop procrastinating, being way too productive and steady studying?
Me
hru ?
I'm good, how about you? Are you looking for some Arabic books here btw?
Did anyone read "The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F" before. Can i ask for some honest review about this book thank you
Really depends on what type of books you like. For me personally, I couldn't read past the second chapter. In my opinion, it's just a "motivational speaker" guy saying the same thing you've heard many times before but he throws in some F-bombs (gets old really quickly). Feel free to download the pdf for free and check it out (I've seen people sharing links on this discord). But again, that's my opinion. Maybe you'll really like it.
Thanks for your opnion👍
James give it a 1 star rating on goodreads and for me i don’t agree with some ideas from Mark Manson
How can i find him on goodreads
type jvscholz on the search bar
im soo good and yes im looking for a good arabic books
Idk if I have the right to type in Arabic here since the rules say no
idk but i think its ok since its just a book name and ur not like having a full arabic conversation
MEMORIES OF MY MELANCHOLY WHORES by Gabriel Garcia Màrquez
It's like 100 pages
He also wrote ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF SOLITUDE
Its quite epic
thanks I really like to read 🙂
U r welcome I'm in love with that kinda books if u have any suggestions I'm open
Norwegian wood by haruki murakami😍
Yoo, what do you prefer, read a book every time or read various books at the sime time?
Well when i was reading just a book at a time i could finish them now i have started like 5 and have been having trouble finishing them so maybe one book at a time
Yeah, that's exactly what I think.
And is more frustrating when you are reading big books.
Does anybody have recommendations for good notebook? - especially for journaling
hands down the leuchtturm1917
yeah, i saw it but it's like 20$ and I'm like: naaah
Yah its harder to finish them, so i am gonna try to read one book at a time now
Depends on where you live. I would just go into a book store or an office store and take a look at the Quality of the paper and the binding. I really like Paperblanks but it's expensive, too.
good luck
I'm an atheist
oof
they left?
I was gonna ban either way for controversial topics
doesn' tbelong here
there we go
book reccomendation from me: "is it really green?"
it has factchecks about eco stuff
very interesting
its based on belgium n the netherlands so the numbers might not always work fr ur country
no hahah
Hey, where do you guys discuss about books with tour conoces? or don't you hace anything like that here?
moleskine? i've had both them and leuchtturm and if leuchtturm wouldn't have numbered pages and a built-in index i'd definitely prefer moleskine but it's a draw for now lol
and from experience it's relatively easy to find deals/discounts for moleskines if you spend a bit of time looking around
thanks a lot for all your help!
I like moleskine for long-form journalling and leuchtturm for bullet journaling/agenda or projects
neither is good if you plan to use for mixed media imo
does anyone know any other books that talk about not giving a f* besides the subtle art of not giving a f*?
The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*ck by Sarah Knight. She's in a Ted talk on YouTube as well, I recommend you to watch it
I've been reading the Midnight Library, it's really good so far
Too Soon Old, Too Late Smart by Gordon Livingston, i’d recommend audible version
@iron helm @thick ibex thanks yall! I will check them out 😄
I mean, the Netherlands and part of belgium used to be a giant swamp thousands of years ago so maybe Shrek was there
Touché
I hated this book😩
oh no lol. why?
It was just poorly written imo👀 hard to read through I didn’t even finish it
And just too… idk it wasnt really helpful
Dunno how to explain
does anyone have recommendations for non-fiction books about psychology or philosophy?
The catcher in the rye, it has a psychology/philosophy theme. A contreversial book but overall it is good imo. It's a novel tho, I don't know if this what you're looking for
Oh I don't mind that it's a novel, I will still take a look at it thank you ^-^
How Psychology Works is great if you can't quite keep your attention on other nonfiction books
Meditations by Marcus Aurelius is a good one
almanack of naval ravikant , you can skip to the second part about philosophy , it's available online as a pdf
has anyone read
FANGIRL BY RAINBOW ROWELL?
okay, thanks everyone 🙂
two books at a time, one self development one fiction, works like a charm for me
re-reading The Mind Illuminated by Culadasa and this paragraph always helps me re-focus. recommended
DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY GOOD YOUNG ADULT RECOMMENDS?
DOES ANY ONE USE NOTION AS A READING TRACKER?
henlo, I would like to know how the book club works 👀
Catcher in the rye

navalmanack is a must read for sure, the podcast is great too.
anthony demello's way to love
anthony demello's awareness
kapil guptas direct truth and a masters secret whispers
navalmanack as mentioned before
necessary for anyone that wants to find any lasting happiness/contentment
Thank you ^^
Could anyone please recommend me some free non-fiction podcasts to listen to while running? Listening to music everyday while running seems like a wastage of time to me. Please attach the podcast link as well, if you have any.
Thank you
I need a book to make myself feel like a top student, i already study a lot at home thanks to James, my grades are pretty good, not bad at all but i feel like i need that little thing to become a top student, i heard that carl newport is pretty good at this but any book you could recommend would be good for me
Not sure if this is what you're looking for exactly but I love listening to philosophy podcasts. Philosophize This! is my favourite. I listen to it on spotify but here's the link to his website where you can listen to them for free https://www.philosophizethis.org/podcasts
cal newport ‐ htbasas
Hermitix is a podcast focusing on one-on-one interviews relating to fringe philosophy, obscure theory, weird lit, underappreciated thinkers and movements, and that which historically finds itself 'outside' the academic canon.
The aim of the podcast is to allow autodidactic thinkers, amateur philosophers and the generally curious an insight into...
joe rogan :)
lex fridman, the partially examined life
Hi everyone, I would just like to recommend an incredibly good book, I'm completely speechless, after reading it, it's called "It ends with us" by Colleen Hoover 🙌 ⭐
nope, but what's 30 days?
hi ! has anybody have anything good to say about cal newport’s “digital minimalism” or “deep work”?
I only read Deep Work, i'd say if you need a heavy convincing strategy (very status driven) about the method or are new to what deep work is, maybe go for it?
I listen to Huberman Lab during runs/cycling, not really stories but informative
im convinced !! did some of my own research and ur message tops it off. thank you ! <3
no pb ^^
(but tbf i didn't like that book very much, gave it a generous 2stars)
really? was there anything specific that prompted you to give it two stars?
haha i could write a small essay about that...
but it was essentially because the ideas weren't new/interesting enough for me, and the writing style is ... very bad; which is the reason why i read it so slowly (as a comparison, i read the whole Lord of the Rings trilogy in a fraction of the time it took me for that book...)
ah i completely get you, i experience that too. i do find his writing style a tad unexciting. then again, how exciting can it be with non fiction? hahah
Atomic Habits was well written, for "non-fiction" 😉
and it was very relevant
ah yes, i did love atomic habits ! are we just agreeing that cal newport’s writing has a certain nature then? hahah
he's bloody cocky if that's what you mean XD
thank you for taking the words out of my mouth hahah
from the book Toxic Parents written by Dr. Susan Forward. a really good book to read whether you have toxic parents or not. recommended 👍🏽
thanks for this! seems a great read, will definitely find a pdf copy of this.
does anyone have a reliable place where they get pdfs of books? I have a project for one of my uni english courses which i need quotes from my required texts. However I got covid and all of my textbooks were left in my dorm and I am currently quarantined in my hometown 😦 rip my finals week haha definitely one for the books
see the pinned comments in #845877644599361576 🙂
If the books you are looking for are in the public domain (i think over 70 years after the publishing date or the author's death), you probably should check your state/ capital library, or even if it's english courses oxford, cambridge, or national libraries site, they usually have numerised a lot of books, that you could read online or download for free 🙂
there are also a great deal of numerised books in google scholar
chances are with you uni you can have access to more sources than you think
Can't Hurt Me helped me a lot
there's a book I've been searching for so long! its cover is something like this (this is just an ms paint recreation) if you know it pls let me know its very important to me.
gotta know what the book is about, a cover won't really help in finding it
maybe saying what the book is about combining it with the example of the cover you gave might increase the chances of finding it
yes, but the pseudo-cover is the only thing i have about it
Hi Guys, have some book for reading ( Eng beginner )
For beginner level maybe you should look for childrens book, the ones by Roald Dahl for example (James and the Giant peach, Mathilda ...), The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night by Mark Haddon (simple vocab and writing style); and maybe try out books you've already read in your language so you already know the plot and names of the characters 😉
hi guys, I love space related stuff. Does anyone have a recommended book / magazine? thx a lot!
Definitely check out Stephen Hawking if you like non-fiction books. For fictional ones, I would highly recommend Andy Weir, some of his books are pretty great
Thanks!
hail mary is a great book for any science nerds or science interested folks
Yeah, I think Bill Gates also recommended it as one of his favourite books this year
any books similar to book thief. books that are very metaphorical.
All the light we cannot see is great
Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys as well
Ooh that one was great too
If some of you are in a reading slump or just want to read quick books (under or very close to 200 p.), i lately read those 3 and i highly recommend them 😊 :

Well it talks a lot about physical condition but in my pov u can take the advice for other aspects of ur life in fact when he gives like "advice" it is not directly to body condition but to life in general and adversity and that but i havent finished the book yet
Oh im watching the serie!
Are u enjoying the books?
i am watching the series and i'm going to start reading. Will get back to you soon.
yes! on the second book right now
how far into the series are you?
I was on season 3, havent watched in like 2 weeks but i was enjoying as well have u watched the serie before?
not yet. I might once I'm done reading all the books
I believe the first book leaves off where season 3 starts, from what I've heard
Alright, well if u reading the books then you will probably be disappointed with the serie as usually there lacks a lot of pormenors but maybe u will still enjoy
Ah i dnt know tbh, how many books exist?
8
Oh wow that are a lot of books
wait no I think it's 9 actually
Well the serie is in the 6 season but if one book has 2 seasons then wow a lot of seasons ahead
yup, the last book was released in 2021
Okay, i want jim and naomi to stay together ahah
ooh same
Hopefully they will or it will be like the 100 in which i get super disappointed in the end ahaha have u watched it?
oh hah no I haven't
I just realised i might have spoiled a lot lol mb
Well its also about space i liked the series
ohh I see
Well if u like space related series u can give it a try, there are also books
yess I'll give the books a go. I've got a lot on my tbr already tho so I might not get around to it until a while later lol
Understand u, i have 3 books that i started but cant get myself to finish ahaha. Anyway hope u like the books : )
season 6 is the last in the series. with 6 episodes. there's a time jump happening for which the actors have to age or something and besides their contract with amazon has ended
oh wow. I wonder if they managed to wrap up the series nicely
so far it has been amazing! I can't pass a verdict comparing the novel series and the TV series as I'm yet to start the books. All I can say is, the show just blew my mind!! they've made some modifications here and there with respect to the books but those who've read the book are very happy with the show. Do watch it when you have the time!
"You are here" Thich Nhat Hanh is a beautiful book on buddhist philosophy for life, highly recommended to broaden your view 🙂
Oh i didnt know that
Thats awesome
ME
All your perfects, It ends with us (TW), The problem with Forever, November 9, The invisible life of Addie LaRue (some are not sad sad, but they have point when you can cry or at least there are sensitive moments.
Pls it ends with us is really GOOD!
Has anyone here read Homer's Iliad and odyssey?
ye,a looong time ago tho, maybe not the full text even haha
How many parts does it has?
Is it like a whole big book or books?
depends on the editors, usually you have the whole Illiad in one book and Odysseus in another; but you could find a "complete works" of homer i believe, that includes them both.
i personally prefer the stand alone books since there are morelikely dense footnotes and analysis pages to go further and maybe try to grasp a little better what's going on (since they are old texts, translated, with a bunch of references we don't have as a contemporary reader)
hmmm can you share a pdf of the stand alones?
i don't have the pdfs haha sorry i have old physical copies and they are in french so i don't think that would be very helpful^^
Ahh alright
Thankyou <3
lol it doesn't want to open... bro i hope this is not a virus
Why would it be a virus lol, it's an epub file, so maybe that's why
welp my computer just ignores that hehe
:o it's alright, Thanks <33
Yes, I always find what I'm looking for there
anyone recommend a book to improve/ make my English language and make it more fluent. but plz not a boring book lol. ty
does anyone here like throne of glass book series
What do you like to read?
Does anyone have any recommendations for classics that changed or reshaped your views on life
Or certain aspects of life
I've only read the first one, but this year I want to finish the series!!
Colleen Hoover's books are easy to start reading in English, romance + easy voc. If you like romance, contemporary romance are the best way i think, they have easy voc and they are fluent. Some short classics are too.
-the Nightingale
- The Alice network
- All the light we cannot see
Good girl's guide to murder, one of us is lying
tyy
The Legend Series by Marie Lu is really good ( its a dystopian novel) and Night by Elie Wiesel is good ( it is a bit sad , it is about his experience during the holocaust)
I just watched a couple of random scenes that I've read from the book on youtube. The show looks amazing!
also, just finished the second book and the ending left me absolutely stunned
Noted ty
YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE THE SERIES BY THE END OF IT!!!!
you should definitely watch it then!! we three @gray kayak can then discuss the show, whenever that may be!
i'll be starting Leviathan Wakes today!
sounds great!
and hope you enjoy your read
Yeah i will try to watch but probably only a few months from now as i want to focus on school rn, glad u liked it tho!
its cool! take your time!
Has someone read Norwegian wood by Haruki Murakami or 4321 by Paul Auster?
nope, but currently I'm now reading Murakami's bibliography and I hope soon! (I really enjoyedHard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World)
For those who can speak french 🇨🇵 Thinzar Shunlei Yo ' " mon combat contre la junte birmane " is a perfect autobiography of the activist aiming to describe her struggle against the burmese dictatorship since the coup d'état of 2021 in Myanmar 🇲🇲 The book left me touched by the toughness and the courage that the author and her people have to endure since the decolinazation of the country. Truly a thrilling and genuine book that I would recommend to anyone !
If anyone's struggling with self-sabotage, then The Mountain is You by Brianna Wiest is worth reading. It might seem a wee bit preachy in the beginning but is really helpful in identifying root causes of negative feelings and emotions and rectifying them!
any book recommendations on crytocurrrency?
yes i absolutely love that book! kafka is one of my favorite authors rn
imo it demonstrated a much more nuanced take on the absurdity of life than what ever camus was trying to do with the stranger. i hated that book but that may also stem from the fact that camus' philosophy is ass
yall are actually reading peterson 😭😭😭
whats wrong with peterson
please dont go off into a "i hate the patriarchy, peterson is an absurdist and extreme right winged idiot who hates calling people their preferred pronouns because of so called "legislation" and he is the devil!" i have heard all of those arguments and they stand with no merit and i really dont want a disgusting argument/fight as per rule #7 we can discuss the views but hopefully respectfully and if u want to say everything that is fine i can do that but on private dm, i dont want either of us getting banned. 🙂
the stranger portraits Camus' absurdist philosophy, not the absurdity of life.
the protag of The Trial is a desperate man.
Meursault, on the other hand, embraces his condition and refuses to follow senseless social norms, ||which get him killed at the end, he literally gets executed for not crying at his mother's funeral||
he is dumb that's it lol
the epitome of a pseudo intellectual who fails to even grasp the ideas of the thinkers he claims to love, e.g. nietzsche.
you're correct! my mistake
may you elaborate
When I was trying to better my English, I read dystopian novels because they're the easiest to understand and I found it exciting. I'd recommend Warcross, Divergent, The Hunger Games or The Fifth Wave or if you like historical fiction, Between Shades of Gray is good 😄
ty
Stolen Focus - Johann Hari

Can anyone give their own perspective on audiobooks vs e-books vs normal books
thanks
I tried audiobooks once way back, if you prefer listening someone reading you a book while you do your other tasks like cleanin or painting and the like, its good but i didnt like how they read it 🤣 and i never went back to it. ebooks ! im using ebooks very practical. u can read on ur phone, laptop or any devices. but makes your eyes strain, its good for like saving the paper or not stacking a lot of books at home. normal books/physical copied books are what I prefer, or what im rly into i think it helps me to stay focus unlike ebooks, you can easily switch to a diff app or smth (i use google play books btw) but idk why but books r now expensive LOL so im sticking with ebooks ahahah
Yeah its the same thing I am facing
tho i havent tried audiobooks but for me its the same thing some books are expensive
Thank you :))
If you have a short attention span or get distracted easily I wouldn’t recommend audiobooks.
While I don’t have adhd and am perfectly fine with listening to podcasts or lectures for long periods, I would play myself an audiobook and find myself half an hour later not having any idea what it’s been talking about for the past 28 minutes🥲
But it’s amazing if you can actually listen because it can reduce the time needed for going through a book significantly and you can play it while doing any other task.
yes yes
thats the main advantage of audiobooks
very relatable 🥲
audio books are really great for those time when you want to double task (doing chores, mindless or automatic things) or if your eyes are strained and you can't seem to focus on a page (digital or not). I find it great even for books i have to analyse since i rely a little more on my earing to learn things; BUT the voice and sound quality is something that can throw you off, even for beautiful texts.
As for e-readers i don't really have an experience with them, and although i see how practical and cheaper; i definietly prefer hands down the paper format, the feel and smell of the paper, the visual cue on where you are in the story, the way they look on shelves haha
yeah the feel and smell and the shelves too
a wonderful book with amazing sentences and similes such as “women have served all these centuries as looking glasses possessing the power of reflecting the figure of man at twice its natural size.” even though i finished it a few days ago, i couldn’t get over it. and i have to say its really surprising, disgusting and annoying to see how oppressed women have been in past(!) centuries.
another point that caught my attention while reading the book was this: Woolf argues that the creative brain has both masculine&feminine features. just like the concepts of anima and animus in Jung. even as an example; Marcel Proust, the author of In Search of Lost Time, gave the example.it was very interesting to me that he said that his brain was not almost androgynous, but only feminine.
omg yeeessss 🤌🤌
i've read it not long ago but i can't stop recomending it

; )
Hi, can you guys recommend me some good Self development books
Hello can u recommend me some good source for sat preparation 🙏🏻✨
I think Mindset by Carol Dweck is the best one!
i got an old copy of the da vinci code lying around
does anyone have anything interesting to share about the book to motivate me to read it??
hey! yes finally! it's only been 2 days but I'm so hooked! And tbh me watching the show has actually made it incredibly easy for me to visualise the Scopuli and the Canterbury. how far have you reached?
oh well its got a lot of unexpected twists. and its really worth reading. ive re read it numerous times. and the writing style is just exceptional.
Need some book recommendations for getting back to habit of reading
samee
think of something that has been on the back of your mind for quite a time now. that is what usually intrigues you the most. start from there.
Maybe start with short books, so that you can finnish them quickly, that rewarding sensation will keep you going 😉 i'll recommend short stories, or easy reads like the ones from Edgar Allan Poe, Sherlock Holmes or some Agatha Christie investigations stories; or diving into a genre or a series that you know you like already so the feeling of being hooked into a story comes naturally.
More suggestions: last months i read 3 short books i really enjoyed:
-The old man who read love stories by Luis Sepúlveda
-When breath becomes air by Paul Kalanithi
- A room of one's own by Virginia Woolf
I'd recommend you set some achieveable goal, like reading 10 pages per day, rather than "read 100 books this year", so you can easily sustain the habit of reading 5 minutes here and there and enjoy the process rather than feeling obliged and pressured to do so 😉
Hey thanks really you are amazing like always 🙂
• The Things You Can See Only When You Slow Down by Haemin Sunim
• The Little Book of Sloth Philosophy by Jennifer McCartney
has anyone read mindset by dr. carol dweck? is it better read through the book or i can just read summaries online? im almost half way through it and the abundance of names annoys me; also, the concepts are just being reused and reused to every example. it seems that reading articles online is much more productive than reading the book itself.
is there anyone else who is currently reading or have read grit by angela duckworth? i knew her from ted talk and it's absolutely mindblowing. it says that outsatnding achievement is not talent but passion and persistence, which is called 'grit'. i haven't finished it yet, but i recommend you guys to give it a read also 🙌
planning to read this after finishing james' recos <33
Did anyone ever read "The Giver" by Lois Lowry? I had forgotten about it after reading it in middle school until a few months ago. I finally picked up the series again and I am now on the 3rd book (out of 4), but I really recommend it! I am honestly bad at rating the art I consume since I get easily entertained, but it is just so interesting seeing the life in other societies and how flawed the system can be (this makes sense after reading the first book haha.) Anyway, give this series a chance if you like utopian/dystopian stories!
The song of achilles 😭 there is no any book which made me cry so much like it 🤯 i wish everyone have read the book
just finished "The Death of Ivan Ilyich" and I highly recommend it, life changing.
Hello Brains, looking through my library on behalf of a friend sadly I came to the conclusion of knowing nothing. I was looking for contemporary feminist theory. Disturbingly the newest book i had was Gender Trouble from the 90s. Which books would you recommend?
i think how to make friends and influentiate people by dale carnegie is a good book, but there is the power of habit by charles duhigg too, the two are very good!
just finished reading hippie by paulo coelho and might as well just drop out, save money and start travelling around the world
Does anyone here follow james scholz on goodreads? I'm just curious about his reading list thanks

It is a classic read.
And then there were none by Agatha Christie too
Apart from that I've read a few modern thrillers that i could recommend
- I'm thinking of ending things by Iain Reid
- Now you see her by James Patterson
- Girl on the train by Paula Hawkins
-Gone girl
And a few books on my reading list would be
Dan Brown's Angel and Demons and
Da Vinci Code.
Happy reading!

hi everyone, any book recommendations for just getting into computer science? I'm looking for a good overview rather than a deep dive into one specific area at this point
I tried to find it on audible, couldnt. Lol, will have to read it later
Omg, I just bought that book. Will read it ASAP 💞 🥺
I use, audiobooks, e-readers(a cheap kindle), and paper books. Lmao, I use them all XD
And here is what I learnt from each
Audiobooks : I recently started listening to audiobooks, because I study for like 9-12 hours everyday for a competitive exam but I always loved reading thrillers, but lately, I am just too tired after studying, so before going to bed, I just start listening to a good thriller audiobook, (RN listening to Sherlock Holmes, narrarated by Stephen Fry, truly recommend it) before going to bed, its really calming and saves time for me.
Disadvantage: I see a lot of people saying they loose focus, for me happens once in a while but rarely since I listen at short intervals, like 10-15 mins each time in midst of study breaks. Listening for long might make u loose focus.
**E-books:**Now dont judge but I tend to download free pdf of books on my TBR and convert them to mobi file and send them to my kindle. I switch my phone off when I am reading on my kindle, so in a way, its the closest cheap alternate to paperback, and I have the cheaper model of Kindle, so i saved a lot of money as I have read around 50+ books in that XD, I downloaded them from internet and converted to mobi file, still its not as satisfying as a paperback, but well, I am born into middle class so will make do. But as far as people think ebooks hurt ur eyes, I can vouch that e-readers like kindle are easy on the eyes. They almost look identical to a story book page. And the recent ones have nightlight options on top of that. If u buy the cheaper versions with some good features, its value for money. <33
**Paperback:**Well its the best for me when I have a bit of money to spend, lol, and I only buy the books I want to collect( like books with great cover art) rest I just read on my kindle 🙂
(ps- sorry for any typos)
There is one good one in German Language which is probably not what you re looking for
Do you have any good recommendations from european authors? I am open for anything as long as it s not written in american essay style. I really do not like this kind of text. For everyone able to read German I highly recommend Aladin El-Mafaalani.
okayy tyy :)
i recommend reading abafi"the son of aba " and thank me later (bonus tip: stop reading self help book it's just a waste of time and they all say the same things like waking up on 3am and read 50 book everyday and do 500 push ups this is not true stop being overwhelming andback to reality ).thanks for reading and i hope you guys like abafi
True. Read one and you got them all
if you're on android, try tachiyomi
im on apple
Yea never read self help books. Do what's best for you. If you want to work out go ahead. If you don't you don't have to. It's different for everyone and self care and help cannot be the same for everyone. For example my self care is listening and decoding i suppose classical music. I love trying to understand and learn what the composer wanted to portray. For others it can be different
I liked your approach i think kinda the same tbh 👍
Mhmm
pretty epic book
that's greattt, would love to it discuss with you!
Love the split keeb bro@
Is the book different from the movie?
Hey! The overall story is the same, but there are differences. Idk if you are aware, but the movie is going to have a second part.. there is still time to read the book before the next movie releases! haha
Greetings! I need a recommendation on what to read about communications and psychology. I am interested in:
- improving my communication skills as well as my speech, so it would be more persuasive and professional
- expanding my social connections, so I would have more opportunities and be more influential
- mastering manipulation abilities, so I can transfer social connections into result
The movie says dune part 1 so yea it will
martin eden
No recommendations? :c
Reading - Mexico: From the Olmecs to the Aztecs by Michael D. Coe - Maybe 1/2 way so far but it's giving me a good picture of ancient Mesoamerica or at least much better than what I had previously thought of the development in the region, would recommend if anyone is interested in those cultures.
For some more medieval fantasy type stuff that is a fun read I really recommend the Warhammer Gotrek and Felix slayer series. I was craving some more of that type of stuff after my Tolkien bender. There's something like 15 books in it but they aren't too long, I read a few more Warhammer series afterwards and all were super enjoyable.
Knights of Brettonia, Mathias Thulmann, and Malus Darkblade series', Skarsnik, all those were good too.
definitely recommend this one if you are into shooting-mystery books! Also if you have already watched the movie Shooter or the series
I generally don’t like self help books but this one is really good. It has information about real world things that are actually useful so I recommend reading it. It’s not boring like most self help books
Have anyone read the book called good omen?

Hey, could someone recommend me a book related programming, technology or engineering? Other than these topics, it can be about something that will contribute and widen my vision also.
thx a lot
As a student, would the book The Subtle art of not giving a f$&k be relevant reading to or not ?
Thank you for suggestion but i do not prefer self-help books since i find them frippery and not practical. Geekie stuff would be great 😄
Hello ! Can somebody recommend me some psychology books in any of these languages : Romanian , French , English... i want to read something new.
Hey, I was not suggesting the book, rather I was asking that WHETHER THAT BOOK WOULD BE WORTH READING FOR A STUDENT OR NOT ?
Btw I respect your opinion regarding self help
sorry
I would but thats only because ppl i know read it and found it useful, i personally didn't but maybe that's just me
then maybe I'll give it a try, if found useless, I would give it to someone else
Can you guys suggest any books related to self awareness?
can somebody recommend rocket engineering books?
finished digital minimalism lol, deep work is much better tho i rec
done reading this book, so here's my review
[T/w: mentions of self-harm, suicidal thoughts, addiction]
||"I wrote the story of Charlie Davis for the cutters and the burners and the kids on the street who have nowhere safe to sleep. I wrote the story of Charlie Davis for their mothers and fathers and for their friends."
It was sooo good!! The characters were all so fucked up, everything was so fucked up. I loved it. It doesn't give false hopes, that everything gets better all the way, it was the truth, it was how it is for many people out there dealing with fear of themselves, self harming, having suicidal thoughts, addiction. Everything can turn upside down in split of a second, in a fit of rage and the author is very talented to put that into words, the tension, the fear, just brilliant! There are also mentions of a character(Charlie) having dissociative disorder and I like how that was described.
Although it was a sad book, I loved reading it, i couldn't keep it down. So yeah, I strongly recommend it for people who like reading pyschological novel and like to get into the head of a character. I think this is also the author's story and it obviously is the story of many others.||
I think i must read academic books now ^^'
I want a recommendation of book related to self esteem mind growth self confidence ❤️
Read the Songs of Maldoror. It will improve your personality and change your perspective on the life
:flushed: only 13+ :flushed: are allowed to look at my about me :smirk_cat:

Violet Evergarden light novel
Being you changing the world by Dain heer
THANKS
you're welcome <3
what's the best enemy to lovers you've read?
The cruel prince for sure
serpent and dove, crescent city and hunting for Adeline (very dark and triggering book tho)
hey guys, it's probably out of topic.. but do you have any recommendation on what textbooks should I use for IELTS test preparation?
I did not use any textbooks the last time I prepared BUT there is a website called IELTS buddy that has a lot of practice material and tips and tricks 🙂
aaah thanks Doro. i'll go look at it👍👍
sure
good luck also anyone preparing for IELTS this summer dm me maybe we can make a group
thanks a lot @gleaming juniper and sure i think that's a great idea
Hey ! Would really like to recommend "how to take smart notes - by sönke ahrens" (not sure if I spelled that right but oh well) to any of you who are looking to improve their ability to write academic papers, books or even their everyday note taking. Whole différent thought process ! Read well people 🤌
hii
hii, does anyone have like a guide to reading dostoevsky, which book should i start with?
The gambler is a good book to start with to get a feel for his writing style
Crime and punishment and Brothers Karamazov are great books to read next, but his writing style goes all over the place and can be hard to follow sometimes, especially if you're not used to Russian patronymic naming.
thanks a lot
Since summer break has come, l want to read more about medical field, does anyone have any books recommend about this, like when the breath becomes air or cheating death
dude I'm obsessed with Dostoevsky
Books with a medical theme or medically interesting books?
He's a great writer (duh) however I find I enjoy Tolstoy more as I enjoy the story part. Reading brothers Karamazov was great but I got burnt out by all the sidetracks and non linear stuff at some point
But hey, Tolstoy master of stories, Dostoevsky master of feelings
books that are written by doctors, nurses, etc about their real-life experiences
I read alot of Tolstoy back in middle school
I do wanna read War and Peace once in my life but its too damn big
Russian literature is depressing and thats what makes it special
War and peace is great highly recommend
You can try In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts by Gabor Mate
will checkout later fs
I'd like to recommend "Grit" by Angela Duckworth, i think there are valuable arguments and examples in that book, although it is not as punchy and to the point as "Atomic Habits".
i feel like 'atomic habits' is for anyone who is new to learning how to form habits, for anyone wanting to go deeper, i recommend 'the power of habit'
i remember that the author of atomic habits used the knowledge from the power of habit, just made it easier i'd say
hiiii, i'm going to travel this summer for like 10 days.. do you guys have any recommend both for non-fiction or fiction to read while in holiday? thank you xD
notes:am not much of a book reader so any recommendation would be good, so far maybe i only read like 7-8 books and the best book so far is catcher in the rye
1984 by George Orwell, The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas come to mind 🙂 Both excellent books!
thank youuuuu!! 🙂 gonna buy 1984 todayyyyy
since on the topic of 1984, i don't know if i should read orwell's 1984 or murakami's 1Q84 first. i want to read both of them eventually and i'm leaning towards 19Q4, does anyone have experience with these 2 and which one would you suggest to read first?
I believe you're talking about Murakami's 1Q84 its actually too long but worth it. I'd say go w 1984 first, then 1Q84
What’s better IELTS or SAT?
It’s not worth it.
whyyyy
omg why? this is such a classic dude, with the dystopia and all it really makes you wonder doesn't it?
There's so many layers in that book
My book recommendation for today is Spiderlight by Adrian Tchaikovsky. Tchaikovsky is not a very well known author but I think his writing in Spiderlight is unique. Each character has their own special traits and interact in realistic and humorous ways. You also get to read the different perspectives of the characters themselves as they try to fulfill a prophecy. Give it a read if you like fantasy. My only qualm about this book is (spoilers!) ||Tchaikovsky kills off his best character at one point. ):||
I read it in middle school so I might be biased but be prepared for some dense reading. It’s a really thought provoking book and I highly recommend it, just don’t go into it thinking you’ll finish it anytime soon
finally someone who shares my opinion on that book
Like fr, that book doesn’t have a plot. It starts off and there’s no proper explanation for anything to at least understand the baseline
For me, It didn’t.
Anyways I can recommend y’all one book that I did like and is pretty good
Atomic habits, It’s a life changing book. A complete must read
yeah I don't know, I hated the part where the protagonist reads that one book, it was so badly written and I skipped it the first time reading. If you want to read a similar but better book, Id recommend "We" by Yevgeny Zamyatin. That book influenced Orwell so much that 1984 feels like a bad attempt at retelling it. And Zamyatin himself actually lived in an authoritarian state, makes everything more believable.
that is the whole point! it is a dystopia that is how these stories progress. there is a very similar story called 'things', it uses the same algorithm
have you not read hunger games or divergent, even harry potter for that matter, they don't give you a baseline. you read the book and as it progresses you get it kinda
lets give it a try
i’ll try finish slowly, because i will read it while holiday this summer
thanks for the reco, absolutely gonna buy it soon too
Yeah of course, but I think there are so many dystopian pieces of literature that do it so much better. Just think of Fahrenheit 451 which, for me at least, is the superior dystopian novel.
ah, i haven't read that one. i will add that to my tbr
I highly recommend. Bradbury is one of my favourite authors
LN recommendation.
Oh! Such a beauty, many people likes to talk trash about it but it worths and it will even more if you research a little bit of mr.orwell's life.
Dont expect great amounts of depth in characters that aren't the protagonist, instead of focusing on that enjoy the world system ;) it's where the true gold is.
Im currently reading American psycho, I don't recommend it unless you want to swallow a big Ikea catalogue as interesting as a gold stone, but its interesting if you want to make a parallel between it and the movie. (The history is good tho, but it has many pages dedicated to brands and stuff).
A book on Amazon in english for learn japanese
shoe dog by phil knight
does anyone have a book to learn english?
what language do you want to learn english from?
for my Japanese 101 class at uni we used "Genki I 3rd Edition"
Tank you 🙏
that is such a pretty cover
i also love the cover ✅
this one’s minee
HAHA yes
have you read the freud’s interpretation of dreams yet? i kinda wanna read it tho
Some of it
It reads like literature
The thesis is that dreams are wish fulfillment
He mentions that the material in dreams have a correlation to real world experiences
You can see that idea in one of his earlier paper called screen memories
I'm at the point where he's attempting to address why dreams can have access to childhood memories
@hasty bough I would say it's worth a read
aaahh yessss ive actually been doing some research on dream interpretations too and i found it very interesting
olrite def going to my tbr list
thanks thoo!
He attempts to disprove some issues with his theory by saying that people just wished for the theory to have issues
That shit was hilarious
@hasty bough I heard Lacan has interesting dream theories, but that could be steeped in his own theories, so I would be wary of that recommendation.
If it's from the seminars, it is not that hard to understand, but if it's from the ecrits I wouldn't recommend you read it.
hahahahahahaha
oo i seee
im currently reading Emotional Intelligence by daniel goleman, its reaaalllyyy reallly interesting
have u ever read it too?
