@gleaming juniper Haha, well as per my experience whenever I have more books at my hand I end up not reading even one ! For me, one book at a time works alright. Though I think my fiction reading list have been too limited to Detective novels and that too specific characters.
@knotty isle Aha... Probably another Jee or neet aspirant then xD
Have anyone read a court of thorns and roses? Issa good book, finished it awhile back 👍
I have read the whole series

@hazy perch Same. For me I think borrowing 3 or 4 books at a time works better. If I didn't like a book, I would have the option to read another one, and also when I'm done with a book, there's another book to read until I go to the library again. Also, I love reading mystery books! I used to read detective novels in Arabic and I really liked reading those, never read an English detective novel, send me recommendations plz :))
currently reading : Think like a monk by Jay Shetty
@minor hedge I was thinking of reading it. let me know what you think about it when you're done :))
Sure @gleaming juniper
@minor hedge let me know too please, I was thinking of reading it but just wasn't too sure
currently reading 'The 5AM Club' I am on chapter 6 and so far its really good
:0 we have a book club??
welcome 😄
@gleaming juniper Hehe, even my reading list has quite a many bengali novels, but I do read English ones too, specially Agatha Christie. So I will recommend you novels of "Agatha Christie" and her character "Hercule Poirot"...I like the way, the story will take weird turns at the last few pages. Anyways going specific you may try "The Murder of Roger Ackroyd" , "Murder on the Orient Express" and so on...One novel of her which I don't think you will hear often was " The Endless Night" . I personally loved the writing there, and liked the emotional appeal as well. You may try it too!
did anyone here read "to kill a mocking bird" by harper lee?
i'm currently reading that one lol

@gleaming juniper what is it about?
@dusty sail Im just sending what is written in the back side of it.
The year is 1984. Aomame is riding in a taxi on the expressway, in a hurry to carry out an assignment. Her work is not the kind that can be discussed in public. When they get tied up in traffic, the taxi driver suggests a bizarre ''proposal'' to her. Having no other choice she agrees, but as a result of her actions she starts to feel as though she is gradually becoming detached from the real world. She has been on a top secret mission, and her next job leads her to encounter the superhuman founder of a religious cult. Meanwhile, Tengo is leading a nondescript life but wishes to become a writer. He inadvertently becomes involved in a strange disturbance that develops over a literary prize. While Aomame and Tengo impact on each other in various ways, at times by accident and at times intentionally, they come closer and closer to meeting. Eventually the two of them notice that they are indispensable to each other. Is it possible for them to ever meet in the real world?

@hazy perch Thank you! I will check them out!
@hazy perch And Then There Were None
@void ravine Will check it out! Thanks!
@visual stratus nothing decided
@void ravine Aah! Indeed "And Then there were none" is a famous one. But it was more of a thriller, than a detective novel where you follow a train of deductions ! But a superb thriller though.
Yeah this is true
@minor hedge Hehe. Yea. I was reading Byomkesh somedays ago. Feluda is evergreen, and it is what which attracted me to this world of detective novels. Whenever I visit some place, at the back of my mind I can always see Feluda in the plot xD
There are lots of good ones from Agatha
@woven lake Hehe, I am not a JEE aspirant actually. I am rather studying for Masters entrances, like IIT -JAM. But ofc I have to study mechanics , electrodynamics too. So if you guys have something to discuss , then sure I am in.
@minor hedge Hehe. Yea. I was reading Byomkesh somedays ago. Feluda is evergreen, and it is what which attracted me to this world of detective novels. Whenever I visit some place, at the back of my mind I can always see Feluda in the plot xD
@hazy perch once i visited kolkata, the theme song of feluda was constantly coming in my mind
@void ravine There is one book Albert, which is rarely mentioned but I came by it. It is "Endless Night" . It is again, more of a thriller but I loved the way she wrote it. I can see through the plot though, but I guess that is just me xD
I could*
@minor hedge You are not in bengal?
i'm from Bangladesh
@void ravine There is one book Albert, which is rarely mentioned but I came by it. It is "Endless Night" . It is again, more of a thriller but I loved the way she wrote it. I can see through the plot though, but I guess that is just me xD

Oki, @gleaming juniper & @astral glade then shall we read it after 20 December?
oop i think soo but my exams are probs gonna be in january, but imma try
we can read it after your exams if you want
wait, I'm coming to the DM's
I found Ishmael to be a really good philosophy book, i'm not sure if it's considered philosophy @low nexus
It's about a monkey convincing a human to be more friendly to animals, but it's really good
it's not a typical philosophy book though
@gleaming juniper Do you read books online?
@gleaming juniper sometimes
Anyone to suggest me books .. Which include tooo much curiosity
@knotty isle what do you typically like to read?
@dawn grail errm suspense and interesting stuff
@knotty isle Chaos by Tom O'Neil. That book blew my mind, its been over a week since i finished it and i still keep thinking about it
ooo okay. Into the Water by Paula Hawkins was pretty good. I seriously did not know who the killer was until the very last line. It's a murder mystery but it also has a lot of other triggering and dark material so it can be a bit of a hit or miss. I personally love anything by Agatha Christie, but especially her Hercule Poirot books. Those are great. A Young Adult one that I read recently is One of Us is Lying by Karen M. Mcmannus. Again, not everyone's cup of tea because it's a Y/A novel, and it's not really a suspenseful book but it was a fun read and actually got me out of a reading slump. The Tokyo Zodiac Murders by Soji Shimada was also really good! That was a book that sort of encourages the readers to guess along with the main characters.
I haven't read em yet, but my friend recommends The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Steig Larsson
Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng is a book that's currently on my 'to-be-read' pile but I can't wait to get to it!
And if you like webtoons/manhwas, Sweet Home and Bastard, both by Hwang Youngchan are also absolutely brilliant.
@hollow seal imma read it for sure 📚😍thank you
@dawn grail I can't thank enough 😍😍... Into the water 🙋.. I read that already.. I can't believe my eyes , I met someone who read that😳😳.. That's one of best books I have ever read
@dawn grail imma surely try ur suggestions.. Means a lot 😊💛
@hollow seal imma read it for sure 📚😍thank you
@knotty isle You're very welcome 😋 ☺️
I would also recommend Operation Paperclip: The Secret Intelligence Program that Brought Nazi Scientists to America by Annie Jacobsen
@knotty isle Chaos by Tom O'Neil. That book blew my mind, its been over a week since i finished it and i still keep thinking about it
@hollow seal can u tell more bout it?
of course! so Charles Manson a cult leader in the 1960's all his life has been locked up, his mother was a prostitute and drank heavily, his father no where to be seen. At age 11 or 13 (cant remember) he stole cars and did many illegal things due to his poor up bringing. It was until I believe 1967 or 68 where things really went south. Charles spent 7 or 8 years behind bars and finally does his time. He then starts a cult called the "Manson Family" these guys end up doing so many killings within the late 60's and many robberies and they never got any time in prison for it. why? well the books talks about that, but lets say it involved the CIA knowing fully well what the Manson Family were doing but they were telling the FBI and DA's to let them go, also in the 1950 there the CIA started an operation called MKULTRA where they used LSD to mind control people, get them to commit crimes, forget about what they did and then input false memories into their brains. (the book goes into more detail) and MKULTRA and the Manson Family have a very close connection. People always wanted to know how did Charles Manson get these people into cult and ordered them to kill without no hesitation from the people who were ordered to do so? People believe that MKULTRA had something to do with it, again the book goes into a crazy crazy rabbit hole. There are many other reason and other shocking things that happened with Charles Manson and the 60's but again dont want to spoil it. You would probably question your existence after reading the book lool I know I did for a couple of days
Tom O'Neil spent 20 years writing this book, back to back interviews with people who were involved, witnesses, members of the police, FBI, DA who knew Charles Manson. He references everything he found about Charles Manson and all the interview he did to finish this book.
He also talks about another book called "Helter Skelter" which was another book about Charles Manson which he debunks and proves how that book was a complete lie
very interesting shit I recommend everyone on this server to read it
bro thanks for this awsome review.your summary just made it more interesting to read! i'm gonna by that book ASAP!!! @hollow seal
No problem my guy, it was sold out last time I saw it on amazon hopefully they have restocked
hopefullyyyyy
@hollow seal oh sure I will read that
@knotty isle try Almond by Sohn Won Pyung it's awesome! I really loved it so much and it would really make eager to know more abt Alexithymia and what do ppl suffer from it feels
hey can you guys recommend a crime, mystery or thriller books?
hey can you guys recommend a crime, mystery or thriller books?
@grizzled bronze The book I recommended above, Chaos by Tom O'Neil 😀
I read Noughts and Crosses when I was 13 and it's absolutely great for young readers. It talks about racism, but it's in a world were white people were treated unfairly. It's about a love story between 2 people who struggle to stay together. I would not recommend it to anyone too young like, I think 12-13 and above is fine.
@grizzled bronze Gone Girl, The Hunting Party, The Chain (Adrian McKinty), The Silent Patient, The Owl Always Hunts at Night, One of us is Lying, My Sister, the Serial Killer, Mindhunter.
Thanks guys
@grizzled bronze Gone Girl, The Hunting Party, The Chain (Adrian McKinty), The Silent Patient, The Owl Always Hunts at Night, One of us is Lying, My Sister, the Serial Killer, Mindhunter.
@stable arch One of us is lying is the book that made me like reading haha. It's my favorite book :))
Guys.. Could you suggest me any free e-books app
@knotty isle Usually if I wanted to read an ebook, I would use the library's website.
@gleaming juniper yeah 😩
Kindle is a good app
don't you have to pay for kindle? @stable arch
not for the app itself but for the books yes ^^
If you want to read old books which have lost their copyrights which makes distributing them legal, you may look at Project Gutenberg Site.
Is anyone here planning to read A Promised Land by Barack Obama?
It is anybooks
@grizzled bronze ohkay .. I will go through . Thank you 😃
Just look up library’s in your area with an online program
@keen crest oh okay
@knotty isle www.z-lib.org afaik u get any book here, in as small size possible
Hi

It looks like a pretty good concept, may take a look at it sometime
Anybody read a little life
@earnest bane I... don’t know to be quite honest. It well written, the timeline is confusing though
but the story... wow
I felt drained by the time i finished it
I felt the same way
With so many things going on
I felt like it wasnt realistic anymore
Theres no way all that could happen to 1 person @latent goblet
i don't think i want to read a dystopian book in 2020
@earnest bane Exactly!! I think I gave it 3 stars on good reads
yeah I've heard a little life is literally just torture for those who like torture
I really liked On the Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta, and it's also got some incredibly sad components. But it's nowhere near as traumatic as a little life.
Yeah a lot of people have referred to a little life as “torture porn” @dawn grail @graceful jungle @latent goblet
@dawn grail I’ll check that out!
Anybody read a little life
@earnest bane I had to recover for like two weeks after that book, I was unable to read anything after that for a while 😶 don't know if anyone felt the same haha
Yeah a lot of people have referred to a little life as “torture porn” @dawn grail @graceful jungle @latent goblet
@earnest bane LMAO they do have a point
@earnest bane I had to recover for like two weeks after that book, I was unable to read anything after that for a while 😶 don't know if anyone felt the same haha
@undone sentinel I had to read something right after to stop thinking about it bc I was so mad
Oh woah somehow i did expect to see ‘a little life” here
Those torturing scenes didnt make me cry, those are just too exhausting to read
I kinna like those scenes where people care for each other, Harold’s parts did tear me up
@fiery cradle I feel so bad for Harold he’s def the best character but ended up having the shortest end of the stick by the end
Fiction or non fiction? Choose one
non fiction
same
Fiction or non fiction? Choose one
@dry minnow you ask an impossible task, my friend
Fiction
@dry minnow you ask an impossible task, my friend
@dawn grail both are very significant I must say with non fiction being more direct
@dawn grail both are very significant I must say with non fiction being more direct
@dry minnow I guess it depends on your definition of 'direct' and your preferred method of interpreting messages.
I personally believe art (fiction for example) to be a brilliant interpreter of human emotion, social issues, psychology, philosophy, and more. Without writing a literal essay here, I think that art (in this case using fictional books as an example) can act as microcosms of our societies and paint very detailed images of the processes we live with.
That being said, they do tend to be more nuanced than non-fiction, and oftentimes the 'point' of the stories can be debated, so I agree with ya there 😅

@dawn grail Indeed. I guess each of them has their own way of telling the same story differently. And it's awesome because both serve different audience. But both are inseparable part of literature. A connection between fantasy and reality.
what is this little life book 😮 i might want to read it lol
@winged iron @gleaming juniper I think it’s the book I’ve found to be the most decisive.. I think it’s an “interesting book” and well written but like u Just gotta read it lol
*divisive
What is it about?
pain
It's about pain, from what I've heard. There's just so much of it. But the writing rly is beautiful.
if you look up paperbackdreams on youtube, she posted a reading vlog of her reading a little life. From memory, it's spoiler free.
That’s how i heard about it so i read it!!

How's notes from the underground? Has anyone read it?
Has anyone read The Alchemist
Just started to read today almost done with chapter 1 and i am already in love with the book❤️

I got that book from the library but never got to read it lol. I'll read it after this semester ends
It's amazing. He explains about waking up at 5 am and how to make your morning productive. Importance of journal, books , planning and stuff.
Does Anyone have murder mystery book recommendations? Besides Sherlock and other classics.
The Truth About The Harry Quebert Affair by Joël Dicker
Thank you guys for the recommendations
Well ive read 2 hercule poirot books and definetely going to read more
I'm a hard Agatha fan 😄 It's not a book suggestion but you should watch mini tv series called "And Then There Were None". It is based on Agatha's book. I really enjoyed watching it
Sorry for my english btw 😅
Ill check it. I think im going to be an Agatha fan to lol
I've read Hercule Poirot's Christmast and Death In The Clouds
You are then still to explore her more famous works. It is good you enjoyed those books. You may go for the more famous ones next like " Murder of Roger Ackroyd" . Her stories have a signature trademark of revealing the suspense at the second last chapter, for you to find out that there was some more surprise in the last chapter itself.
Hehe me too. It is like, her's are the only books which I read in a while!
I'm going to buy 2 Poirot's books, maybe The Mysterious Affair at Styles and Murder of Roger Ackroyd
But I still prefer Sherlock to Poirot hehe
Did anyone read Kafka on the shore
it is interesting at the beginning (actually, his writing style always interesting, but in some books there are parts +18, as I have read at google feedbacks), but unfortunately i didn't read fully due to not having time
I actually read it 2x some years in between, I highly suggest you continue reading it! @spice lintel
I will, thnx)
Heyy
If you know you know
.
Hello
Journey Under the Midnight Sun
My favorite is The Mousetrap!
No exit by Taylor Adams, or The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides
Thank you guys for the recommendations!

oh wow, hmm have you tried eBay?

im planning to buy that
damn...
really obsessed with self help/inspirational book
Thats good but be careful, I was once obsessed and got burned out completely from them. Some books can be bs so do some research before you read them buddy
have u read kinyas and kayra
broken dolls by james carol was pretty good too
nope but I've heard the name
i read it last fall and i still think about it
what's that 'bout?

Alright I'll look at 'em, thanks for the recommendations
yw have a nice day 😺
wsup
yow. any fan of haruki murakami here? i've never read his book, where should i start? IQ84? kafka on the shore? norwegian wood?
Kafka on the shore bc its not a series
and me and other members here are starting reading iq84 on december i u wanna group read
@gleaming juniper so the other are series? i just know that. thankyouu! aaak i wanna join too! then iq84 will be my first murakami's novel kkkk
@gleaming juniper
Ok i pinged her she‘ll add u
iq84 is a 3 book series
Kafka on the shore no
The third one idk
okiii
aha i see. the third one is famous in my country, also the first murakami's book that i've heard.
1Q84 was the first murakami’s book(s) that I read and honestly I would not recommend it as a first read
It was really difficult for me to finish the whole thing because it was just so slow-paced
I would suggest Sputnik sweetheart or Norwegian food as introduction to murakami
Norwegian food? Lol
woops lol @gleaming juniper *wood
I really don’t know because I haven’t read anything else from him 😅
hahahahaa okaay. a few novels that i read also slow paced, guess i'm ok with that.
thanks a lot for the suggestion, i'll put it in my list too!
hey guys im a huge bookworm.....tho i mostly read paranormal romances i love other genres too
just got done with khaled hosseini books and they both die at the end also we were liars....last one was just epic!!!
could u pls recommend any books with epic plot twists
Detective books
@gleaming juniper we are liars
I'm currently reading Harry Potter and the chamber of Secrets
currently reading myth of sisyphus and just finished the stranger by albert camus
def recommend if any of u guys r into philosophy
@gleaming juniper wait...Isnt camus the guy that said that humans have no purpose in their existence? So basically meaningless? I heard about him lately
yeah his philosophy primarily revolved around absurdism / existentialism
hey a huge potter head here!!! tell ne how ya like it
wow i started reading it yesterday (reading it for the 440th time btw...). its one of my favorites
The new books arrived!
hey all just saw ur recommendations and started a little life
yeey, please keep us up to date 😄
anyone recommending Game of Thrones after seeing the series?
yeah sure...tho im still looking for books with epic plot twists do recommend......i hv read we were liars already
maybe not id suggest a similar kind called the red queen
shadow of the wind has a nice plot twist. I recommend it
We were liars was soo sad
wiiiii 🎉 the subtle art of not giving a F is still the best self help book that i've read. happy reading anyway 😻
truu so tru.....someone kinda spoiled the ending for me and i was really mad but the plot twist was crazyyyyy
@gleaming juniper yesss wasnt expected at all 🥺
What does it talk about? Would u recommend it
Yup. The ending was something else.
@gleaming juniper of course i would recommend it! it's about accepting ourself, but also keep ourself improved. mark manson told some story, his own experience and others in this book and that makes us understand more, what to compare in our life (my fav is about the metallica part). the language is very lite, easily understood, even for the non-native. he is talking about reality, not about unreachable hopes and nonsense.
@twilit horizon thank you so much, i will consider reading it
makes us realize what's in our control and what's not. and how dangerous it would become. @gleaming juniper you're welcome ✌️
I loved all the books I have read of him.Start with Kafka on the shore, followed by norwegian wood. I am yet to read iq84
Do you guys happen to know any good horror literature? Wanna get into it but don’t know where to start
Already finished Frankenstein and Dracula
I'm thinking of buying Haruki's Strange Library, is it good?
some fatastique horror ? i really like stephen king for horror /psychological book ^^
is there anyone reading 1984 currently?!

Yep I am reading 1984!
Ooo I actually never really understood the hype for Harry Potter
Tried to get into it but couldn’t
Will try it again. Should I watch the movies first or read the books??
Anyone read non-fiction, philosophy to be specific?
I just read Immortality of Milan Kundera and I dont like it too much, are there any recommendations pls?
1984 it's a masterpiece
Beyond good and evil by Frierich Nietzsche (to be honest I still didn't read it unfortunately), the metamorphosis by franz kafka, The Alcimist by paulo coelho (of course), Fahrenheit 451 (another masterpiece), and every book of Fiodor Dostoïevski
I have it but never got to read it, maybe I should give it another try
you should definitely read it
Yeah Im reading “Brother Karamazov” of Dostoyevsky and quite satisfied about it. Im at few pages at the beginning of Metamorphosis and honestly it got me confused
1984 has been on my tbr for 3 months hic
yeah and that's what i find absolutely fantastic about this book, this confusion
Hm I will hang on it till the end for sure
Thank you all, these books will be in my December reading list ✨✨

so what do you guys think of the book Hidden Figures
Brave New World is so cool one of the best novels I ve ever read, anyone read before too?
I would like to read. I liked it so much 1984,Brave New World is similar ?
I like distopic novels
mmmm interesting...... I'll have to look it up
what otherbooks do you guys reccomend
Stoner by John Willians
I want to read brave new world too. I don't think that we could say that it's similar, it's true that both of the books talks about authority and dictatorship, but George Orwell's world is completely different from Aldous Huxley's.
thx, i think i'll like it
You're welcome 😊
Ayoo does anyone read philosophy or psychology related books ?
Im reading one about lying
It's on german tho😅
Oh what's the name ? Maybe there's a translation
It's about how lying is not that bad and that everyone uses them to stand out better or to not hurt someones feelings
Yup, for psychology recent ones I read are FLOW and What every body is saying. For philosophy anything, last was The Prince. wbu?

what is your favorite book
hi
I would say Camus and Hemingway at the moment. What about you?
Oh, Hemingway
Really hard to read but good I stopped tho I might just watch the movie
For a second I thought you would say War and Peace. That thing isn't enjoyable to be completely honest.
oh, that's a good point. One year ago, i bought that book and swore to myself that i'll be finished this book in two week
I honestly don’t love classics
There are some gems out there
But like yeah war and peace just seems too much to read
And keep up with
Also it wasn’t really that engaging
I never really fully finished it
agree
Yeah I got that
Especially in quarantine
Part of me really wants to read
i read demian now :)
And the other part finds “better” things to do
Ooo never heard of Demian
How is that going?
written by Herman Hesse
emotional
I personally love reading autobiographies and memoirs
And just reading about successful people’s life’s
Any one really
i read marie curie's life story
Benjamin Franklin, nikola tesla, Elon musk Steve Jobs, also the bad blood book is amazing
her relationship made me... oh
Marie curie?
yes
I don’t know much about her
oh really
do you know Turkish?
i can suggest you a video but it is in Turkish
Two times Nobel Prize winner go look her up.

Dang
for two different areas
Will definitely look her up

Personally I don't want to waste time on books I don't enjoy reading, although it can be beneficial to push through harder books.
oh, really
you don't waste ur time with reading actually but
it is about taste
maybe you couldn't find ur own taste?
about books
I think he meant that personally he doesn’t enjoy reading those kind of books
But I mean if it’s your taste go for it!
I agree, but if you are really pushing yourself in the process to finish that book it’s only gonna make you lose interest in reading all together
It's not a matter of finding my own taste. But I am constantly trying new things. I have a good idea of what I enjoy as of now, but I won't push myself through any books that's not personally worthwhile.
Ah gotcha
Don't get me wrong I'm not saying that you shouldn't bother reading and digging through some obscure writings. I just want to spend my time wisely on topics, ideas and authors that I am interested in.
i got you
yeah it is ur interest
for instance i feel bored when i read autobiographies but she enjoyed with this kindof books
so it is ur choice
what do you interested in?
my favourite author is murakami by far, i just adore his writing style , and my favourite book from his is the wind up bird chronicle , not as talked about as the norweigan wood or kafka on the shore which are both amazing but this book.. i feel as if it changed me in a way , its just you have those books that when you read them you feel as if you became some else, that you´re not the same person you were before, i don´t know if it makes sense at all hahah but i recommend it
Waaw it sounds really amazing, I'm gonna check it out, thanks for the recommendation 🙏
I want actually to read one of Rumi's book. His words make me dream and are so true.
What can you recommend for newbie readers of murakami?
i think everyone starts with norweigan wood, that was my first as well, you can also try south of the border west of the sun, it´s a shorter book and also one of my all time favorites , and after dark as well, it´s kinda different to his usual books but it´s also a great
Thank youuu!
hellu, just wondering what are your thoughts on picture of dorian gray? i personally struggled with the language lol. i think if i could understand it a bit better i would've really enjoyed the prose.

I feel bored when I read but I am hoping to develop a regular reading habit. I am also a very slow reader which makes it incredibly difficult to finish the book without losing interest. Can anyone tell me how can I do that? Where should I start?
Personally I find listening to some music in a quiet place while reading helps me with concentration. Hope this helps!
start with a book type that you may enjoy like a "thriller" and put min page limit instead of time limit after you read several books about "thriller" you can go with easy classics
I think the best approach is to starting with reading few minutes per day and then increase the time gradually, like 20 /30 minutes the first week and the next week doing 45min/1h. it's like when you work out at the gym, you have to start from simple things and then increase the difficulty. but you have to be costant, don't skip a single day. building an habit requires costancy.
as someone's already said, start with something enjoyable and dynamic, easy to read so you won't get bored;then when you'll trained to stay well focused while reading you can try something more complex like essays or whatever you're interested in. sorry if it's so long but I suck to sum up my thoughts
Totally agree, consistency is the key.
2020 has been a terrible year. For my holiday reading list this year, I chose five books that I enjoyed—some because they helped me go deeper on a tough issue, others because they offered a welcome change of pace. They are:
• The New Jim Crow, by Michelle Alexander
• Range, by David Epstein
• The Splendid and the Vile, by Erik Larson
• The Spy a...
@silver slate i felt the same way about dorian gray. i hated reading it and really struggled to finish it but the plot was nice and would have been enjoyable had the language been different
@half jolt this is not allowed at all
Ive also been getting complaints that you have been sending the link to people in dm’s
If you had read the #723133783573921852 , which you should before chatting, you would have known
You will be receiving a message from me shortly
it was a rather nice book. has anyone read sense and sensibility?
Sense and sensibility? I need to add that to my list ✋
Yup. I read it earlier this year and surprisingly I really liked it. If you are a Jane Austen fan, and want to learn more about the lives of people in Regency period, you should give it a go. Plus it's a classic.
i would rather read necronomicon then a promised land by barack obama
the book is basically an opinion of a person
and the usp of it is that its written by democratic president Barack Obama
it's also good see the opinions of others.. even if it is obama hahaha @gleaming juniper
whats yalls favorite haruki murakami book? i rly want to read one of his books but idk which one to read first
i haven't read any but i heard the wild sheep chase is good
peak culture ......
Norwegian Wood is a great place to start to get a feel for his writing style
But Colorless Tusukuru Tazaki is one of my all time favs
okay thank you!! i'll look into these
has anyone seen burning (2018) the movie adaptation of one of the stories from murakami´s book the elephant vanishes? i´ve heard its amazing, i´m thinking of giving it a watch tonight, what are you ´re opinions if you´ve seen it already??
my favorite is the wind up bird chronicles, im still in the middle of colorless tzukuru but its already amazing, but def not the books to start murakami with, give a try to norweigan wood or south of the border west of the sun
What is almost transparent blue about? I have it in my reading list but dunno much about it.
Good evening everyone,
Tonight I'm gonna start reading Underworld by DeLillo, has anyone read it?
Yeah its pretty good ngl
I read the first part, the baseball game. It was a bit difficult to follow everything but it seems pretty dope
ok
Yes a just finish it. Is my first time reading one of his books
I will read it next
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
One of Elon Musk's favorite books in his childhood

can anyone recommend books for beginner? i want to start reading but i dont know which book should i read first
Ruskin bond's books are good for beginners
hi! has anyone read this i remember by eleanor roosevelt yet? i dont want to start if its not that much of a good book bc i have a pile waiting for me lol
My first book was eragon which is part of the inheritance cycle, if you like fantasy ofcourse. It got me into that kind of thing but the Lord of the rings is a popular fan favourite
Everything depends on what are u into. For me, the book that got me into reading when I was 12, was Percy Jackson, the whole universe was exquisite for my mind. The mere idea of a little guy, same age as mine, fighting against Greek monsters and gods was awesome. Also, some of the characters were relatable, it was cool to see how I was growing up with them. Besides, the writing style is easy to catch up, and it’s pretty easy to understand what happening too.
Percy Jackson is still good it's so great
I read it again some months ago and I'm 25
Hey guys do you have some wishlist book for 2021?
Ready Player One got me to love reading again it's super good. there's a lot more story than there is in the movie
mine so far are are Becoming by Michelle Obama and How to Overcome Your Childhood (pretty hard to get this book) ☺️
Hi guys I just started to read The Name of the Wind I it blows my mind like omg soo gooddd xd absolute recommendation
Did you try Harry potter bc its good and the advice is you can prefer the books that you watch their movie like its not same The Books are best but you can try. What I am saying is you like watching Harry potter try reading
I heard the audiobook, it was intense but worth it
I’m thinking of trying audio books after my exams, is it as enjoyable as reading? Is it difficult to stay focused throughout the story?
You should be crazy working for your dream guys
What?
it depends really, i listen to them in chunks and find it okay to focus tho to me is not the same as reading but i find it a lot more relaxing after staring at papers all day, but id say definitely give it a try, you can get a demo book and see if it works for you or not
I started reading ' Thinking, fast and slow' by Daniel Kahneman. Dunno if you guys have heard of it. Loving it so far.
If you don't mind telling, what is it about?? I'm curious.
who is the author for How to Overcome Your Childhood?
It's about how to have rich conversations, devoid of biases. A psychological classic and an international bestseller. Totally worth a read.
I'm not sure, but the publisher is The Book of Life if I'm not mistaken
Guys if you have any books recommendation, let me know 😄 I'm into self-improvement/self-help books, but open to genres!
Has anyone over here read Dune?
really excited by Denis Villeneuve's movie trailer, thought i would check it out.. lmk if any1 of you has read it
Yes, I loved the trailer, ididnt know its a book tho
i am excited for the movie cuz zendaya is in it
https://dreditheger.com/the-choice/#:~:text=THE CHOICE%3A Embrace the Possible,of choice in our lives. this is the book which is on his table right now
Currently reading the Four Agreements and its really good so far !
Oh I've heard about that book! Is it hard to understand like Sapiens?
I didn’t find it hard, the ideas are simple and well-written! But I haven’t read Sapiens so I’m not sure how different it is @last notch
ah I see, I'll check it out. Thank you! :) @ornate barn
Love that book. Not an easy read tho
I agree. I manage to read just 3-4 pages per day. Its an eye opener though.
It surely is!
it's one of my most favorite books!
hello eny books for 2021 I LIKE DEVLOPMENT BOOK

Did you finish it? how was it? can you give a short description what you learned ?
I am not sure but is it 'burn'?
You can't be disappointed with a psychology book. The content is great. It's a slow read though. I've only started it myself. And so far it's promising.
Cheers buddy for your opinion
after completing the choice, go for The Gift - edith eger (same author)
you should def read the dune book 1
dune book 1 by ?
@solid pecan do u know the writer name?
frank herbert
Does anyone take notes while reading?
Linda Howard
Do you all annotate books? (Except books for university)
I just use the color tabs to stick at the end of my favourite quotes
Ive been thinking ab using pencil or markers to annotate but I cant write or leave any marks or anything on the pages
Im too scared to damage my precious baes
i annotate mine (in general) ! i use pencil or if you dont want to ruin it, u could jus put sticky notes on every pages, bc for some ppl after theyve read it they want to sell it too so the quality is still nice. or if ur insane, use markers bwahaha XD
tbh pencil is like the lesser damage, if that makes sense, cos its erasable unlike markers....👀 👄 👀
I just use a pen and underline, write on the page. Please don't kill me those who love to keep their books intact
If you want to keep your books crisp, maybe use a notebook to write on your fav quotes
I want to annotate book bcause I want to make my books personal (and maybe funny to reread) but Im a perfectionist hic leaving marks in books makes me cringe
I shall find ways to work with the fears i guess
Maybe im have OCD ab this 🤦♀️
hmm i see where ur coming from, id feel the same way but i guess try to use pencil first and see if its sitting right w u, then u could switch to ballpen or markers ! do what u fear but dont be too hard on yourself too :''>
Okay I will try thanks ✨✨
Maybe one day I become insane and use markers hahaha 😂
thank you, but I guess there is no shipping of the choice to my country
i do that too!
Has anyone read the collector's book by John Robert Fowles?
what are yall thoughts about buying counterfeit/reprinted books? i have thought about it since i don't have a lot of money, but i really do wanna read (english books) physically instead of staring at my screen
thinkin about doing the same, but I'm not sure whether it is counts as copyright infringement or not
Maybe try with second hand book
oh my god! it's incredible
It sure is!
the author himself inspires me, the work he's done is just amazing
Of course! Can't expect less from a nobel laureate
does anyone here read books about spirituality? if so, can y’all suggest some good books?
I’ve been working my way through You Are Here by Zen monk Thich Nhat Hanh! It’s more specific to Buddhist thought if that interests you and has been pretty good so far👍🏾
I’ve also heard The Secret by Rhonda Byrne and The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle are good, though I haven’t gotten around to reading them myself yet lol
the courage to be disliked by ichiro and fumitake are by far the best yet ive read and joy at work by marie kondo and scot sonnenshien
i’ve heard a lot about this author... apparently his books are really great! i will check out his books! thanks though:)
ive started reading the celestine prophecy & i love it so far! i have the power of now too but i haven’t started it yet

i've just recently listened to its audiobook, it has a good content. some points may not work for you but for the most part i think they are applicable (depends on your current situation really)
Any agatha christie fans?

I have to read Roger Ackroyd for an exam then I'm gonna read this😊
my fav is "and then there is none"
Oh yeah ive heard about that one. Thx!
Mine too! Love this one.
I finished it in December. The book does have some valid points. The rules mentioned, for instance, holds true in terms of the neuroscientific agenda of the brain.
im only halfway in and im confident to say that it did change me
Finished reading a quarter of it and it's good so far I'm sure it'll be great in changing some of my habits
i'm gonna read it again after my exams haha. its the kind of book you read every year

Hey did yous see Cal Newport is releasing a new book. It's up for pre-order atm, coming out in March. Has anyone read “The invisible life of Addie Larue”? That book is quite popular recently

do you guys read books when you have "study grind" days?
yes sometimes, i try to get in at least 20 minutes of reading a day
bookmark
books I got today, I'm happy to have Atomic Habits now and to start reading it. I've already read Digital Minimalism but I wanted the actual physical version since I have moments I wanna read it but don't want to get my ipad to read it on the NOOK app.
Jimmy is short for James in the US
"short" just means it's used in substitution, all short names are just nicknames. Like how Timmy is short for Timothy. For James it doesn't make much sense, but that's just how it is.
I thought it would be jamy
but whos james
how's that Digital Minimalism book? i've been stumbling upon the 'digital decluttering' thing lately and i've seen a lot of recommendations for the book
it's pretty good! I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about digital minimalism since it covers what it is and also how to fill the time when you don't use devices as much. I liked reading it since it had more detail than the youtube videos on digital minmalism. And Cal Newport's writing doesn't make me bored.
Currently reading Destination Unknown by Agatha Christie.
ahahaha how is the system ı mean how so you choose the book you will talk about
thanks! i'll look it up. i wanted to read his Deep Work book first though, ill get around that one maybe after
Anything and everything about books :)
ı am currently reading
an extraordinary night
Can somebody Tell me if and if yes why they like the Great catsby, i just Cannot wrap my mind around it
ı didn't read it but my aiater said it is a really good book
nice
A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it.
ooo yeah i got atomic habits too!
rn I'm reading Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes
nice
Can anyone tell the best PCBM books for international Olympiads?
Anyone read this book or has plans to start? Its humongous.
Has anyone read the crucible ( from Arthur miller ) here ?
I have it coming for my English literature boards...
guys ı want to be in other book clubs too can you help ?
This seems cool? Have u read it?
currently reading: when breath becomes air
what is this book about?
its an autobiography of a neurosurgery resident who was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer, i’ve just started it today.
yes, it was published after the author had passed away
interesting, then I'll add it to my reading list,ty🤍
it talks a lot about the authors journey into medicine and what a privilege it is to be a doctor, which is something i’m personally interested in, hope you enjoy <3
I started that book a while ago! It was an audio book
I started to read the collector John Fowles
yes so good
I have just finished reading it ngl I cried
@gleaming juniper man I’m literally too dead to read have been preparing for boards. Ughhhh!
😭👍
it’s all good! it’s pretty short and just a play format. 🙂 try a few chapters a day when you wake up
Thanks bro!
What is your program?
You study philology? Me too :’)
What do you mean saying structural?

Can anyone recommend a good fictional book? Besides HP and LOTR
a court of thrones and roses/ the ocean at the end of the lane
What genre of fictional book you're looking for? The ones you mentioned are really more leaned toward fantasy fictions
hi,
Umm.. idk.. I've only read those two so far! I'm new at this.. 😬 whatever you recommend:)
Nicee.. I'll check it out👍 thanks🤗
I liked those two series so far.. any books in the same genre should be fine with me:)
On the same range, I would recommend The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S Lewis, His dark matters trilogy by Philip Pullman, and of course Eragon / The Heritage series by Christopher Paolini 🙂
Thank you ❤️ will check those out:)
Great, you could perhaps try out Brandon Sanderson's books The Final Empire (The Mistborn series), @ornate valve mentioned some good series too for beginners. Enjoy your read!
Has anyone read THE WINNER STANDS ALONE by Paulo Coulo
The seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Has anyone read A Little Life?
I have it on my nightstand waiting for me but don't feel ready
Ohh definitely you have to prepare yourself. It is not emotional, it is traumatising
I have it on my list but ik its very sad so haven’t started it yet
I read like 50% of it and now I don’t have the guts to continue further lol😣
I wanted to read it during my 2weeks break before the next semester but maybe it's not a great idea lol
Yeah that is why I decided not to read it during school 😅
Any Ken Follet fan?
YES
Yup it took me a couple of months, had to take a 2 months break at some point.
How was your experience?
I decided to read more of him this year. Big fan of the pilar of the earth trilogy
Does anybody know a good romance book. Just for fun?
Fifty Shades of Gray
you might have heard about it, also its 3 or 4 books, idrk, but the story is worth reading
or you can just watch movie vesions, theyre equally amazing according to me, but dont contain ALL the good scenes from book
Oh I know they but they’re overrated in my opinion and didn’t really like it. If someone knows a few underrated ones that are not as brutal HAHAH I’m here for it 🚶♀️
Any suggestion on which one to read? I'm reading the rebecca code
I only read his Kingsbridge trilogy and The Century Trilogy, so I can only speak for those. If you enjoyed Kingsbridge, you could perhaps try out this other trilogy. If it's too big of a commitment, The Rebecca Code seems to be decent standalone, so stick with it.
A great book, although I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, it was rough. But if you're ready and determined to go through all the traumas and trigger warnings, go for it!
The infernal devices or any books written by Cassandra Clare. It is actually more of a fantasy romance
guysssssssssssss
i just finished tiger!tiger!
also known as stars my destination
it was epic
recommend 10/10
I’m reading It by Stephen King and i’m loving it so much. I already love the movies
try to read it slowly @woeful mango and enjoy it fully. i wish i could forget and reread it :' )
Have you read any other books by Stephen King?
I read The Shining, Joyland and Salem’s Lot but I didn’t love them. I read Pet Sematary too and liked it a lot
Wow. I also read pet sematary and it was really good. Misery is sitting on my bookshelf. I have still not read it yet.
Misery is everybody’s favorite right? I have to confess that I started reading it but I felt the development of the story was very slowly. I intend to give it a second chance, because the plot is truly very interest
I'll read it soon!
Try out his short stories!!
Oh yeah, I sure will!
Guys, I finished reading the book Collector John Fowles. And I have mixed feelings after it. But definitely, I liked this book. I think to read an analysis about it, in order to better understand the characters.
But it definitely lived up to its purchase
started Cant Hurt Me, couldnt stop reading for a few chapters. has anyone read it through?
I'm huge fan of French literature lol
I heard good things about it
I know it sounds funny but I like trying to read old books in different languages. I can never get through them but they always feel like I'm reading something important

Human Acts (Han Kang) is pretty short, but amazing. Also the Catcher in the Rye is a classic!
Oh my god.. A Little Life tore me apart, and I still catch myself thinking about it even though it has been nearly 5 months since I finished that depressing brick of a book
I am struggling to complete it lol....
I recommend some Mitch Albom books especially the Tuesdays with Morrie :))
Yee that book destroyed me
that book really made me cry (and I rarely do when reading books)😭
Definitely I just stumbled upon it and went on a Mitch Albom binge but none of his other works could compete with this one.
Will check it out, thank you!
Read so much about the book A little life here, that I am very curious about it and want to read it. But at the same time I am very afraid xD
Did any of you read The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller?
Started reading few hours ago.. now cannot stop reading it 😄
yes! currently reading it
About the Book. Greece in the age of Heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the kingdom of Phthia. ... Torn between love and fear for his friend, Patroclus follows Achilles into war, little knowing that the years that follow will test everything they have learned, everything they hold dear.

Why is everybody talking about atomic habits? Is it really good?
James constantly recommending this book honestly made me read it, and it was worth it. 😀 Very accurate and practical ideas, easy to read and straight to the point. Bonus point: Clean methodology; I really liked the teacher-like recap at the end of every chapter, so you can come back to the core ideas.
Aand it's not very big of a book (haha I know sometimes people can be put off by that so..)
This is also a good book to read. Happy reading 📚😊
you literally saved my whole life right there thank you!!
Thats an amazing website tbh
it's beyond amazing
Great book ! Highly recommend! 📚 mikascreen:
Hi
I'm having difficulty navigating this website because the categories are so arbitrary :/
Do you have any pointers wrt that?
Ah. So it's more like going through a bookstore and pick out multiple books you wanna read
Rather than looking for one specific book👉👈
Thank you for your help 😌
Has anyone read The Count of Monte Cristo?
Ah same here. Plus I saw a little bit of the production (musical) and I really want to read it
yeah! i've read it i guess 2years ago in french and it was worth it
Oh my goodness! In French, the talenttttt
😅well since french is my second language, i don't think it's a talent👉👈
Aw it's still great that you managed to get through it!!
Plus my French classes always did the basics: Les Mis, The Hunchback of Notre Dame
I'm a fan of the hunchback of Notre Dame💜but not really for les Misérables
yet, i still love Marc Levy's books more
Haha I'm almost the opposite but I love both because I do be a bit of a theatre geek :>
hahaha oh my gosh that must've been a wild ride lol
Any Iliad fans?
