rich dad poor dad
Thx
+1 this is book is soo good not as convoluted as other business (not really a business book more like a personal blogs in the form of a book) book
can someone suggest a great fantasy novel/book/series
Six of crows is an amazing fantasy duology
Whats it about ?
yep and it feels as if naval is talking to u
It’s a high fantasy genre. About this group of six teenagers who come together to pull off this dangerous heist. All the characters are like misfits / outcasts / criminals. The world building and characters are amazing
hey i saw that we have to read shadow and bone before that . Is that necessary
No no you don’t. Six of crows is way better than shadow and bone and its stand alone so no you dont have to read it beforehand
so basically there are 2 books six of crows and whats the name of the other one
Second one is crooked kingdom
If you want to you can read shadow and bone but its not necessary
i think it's just the cover
prettier and maybe hard cover
Ohhh
but if u have the money and u're a collecter then just go for it
I remember reading Dale Carnegie's "How to Win Friends and Influence People" at around 15, and it's had a tremendous trickle down effect. To add on "What every BODY is saying" by Joe Navarro is also highly recommended.
Thanks
everyone i just finished education of the will-jules payot. i do recommend this book so hard. it has improved my willpower already. this book had written for college and high school students. read it, you wont regret 🙂
Thank you! I might try it 🙂
Ok, I'll try it.
is there any book that talks about possibility of infinity logically and the sequence of reasons ?
Infinity and the Mind by Rudy Rucker
what do you usually read at night before bed?
Non fiction or random Russian authors
Atomic Habits is one of the best books ever !
Prousts In search of lost time
How To Become A Straight A Student by Cal Newport.
I'm pretty sure this has been recommended by James himself, I just finished the audiobook version of it and It's great! Most interesting to me was the fact that It offers a really good time management system which I'll put into use. Although I had hoped there would be more info on technical courses.
Not a book but I wanted to add to the above comment, Cal Newport also has a YouTube channel and it's a great resource for motivation, mental wellness, career related, etc
thank you guys for your suggestions :)
have y'all a nice day
try tuesdays with morrie
confession
1Q84 series is sooo good
That’s an emotional one
actually im haifway through and tho i know its emotional i feel at ease somehow while reading it
best horror books pls
Currently, I'm reading Tuesday with Morrie by Mitch Albom. It's about an old professor named Morrie, who has a terminal illness and his student. Every Tuesday, Morrie and his students talks about life and death. It's a good read especially before bed and makes you wonder what else can you give back to this world.
The Midnight Library is also a good novel
I need some books in turkish to obtain better and bigger vocabulary. Any recommendations?
The Posthumous Memoirs of Brás Cubas - Machado de Assis
Anyone want these book pfd?
-Deep work
-Can't hurt me
-Atomic habits
Yes please, I want can't hurt
is 48 law of power a good book?
Depends on where you are in life and what you are looking for
It's a really negative book tbh
Yes pls
💀
yes man please.. cant wait
its good, if you want to manipulate people. in my opinion it is a pretty useful skill as long as you do it ethically
e
Looking for some self help books or anything really. Would like if someone could send the pdf too.
In which areas?
need some self-help books about discipline and deep practices
books like "deep work" would be nice
atomic habits
did not read it but i have heard its a good book
for discipline
or just read cant hurt me
i already read both of the books
im trying to find a book which lean more to something like 'deep work'
Try ‘flow’ by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
Does anyone have Dante's Inferno pdf? I'm also looking for random book pdfs to read because I'm bored
check on here
there's a ton of book pdfs you can find
I scan them too btw so if it concerns you the site is safe 🫡
will do, thanks!
Thank you!
Is only english books?
I'd advice to be very consicous about which translation you're reading. The divine comedy is troublesome to translate, which has lead to there being vastly different works out there. There's a few youtube videos and blogposts if you want to look it up, it can dictate whatever you enjoy it or not
any recomendations for self improvement books besides ; atomic habits, the 7 habits of highly effective people.
The courage to be disliked
How to win friends and influence people (very useful book)
Eat that frog
The compound effect
Meditations
rich dad poor dad, cuz ig it improves your finances
Can't Hurt me
The Almanack of naval ravikant
Deep work
Ego is the enemy
Haruki is a badass
i recommend Battle Royale by Koushun Takami if yall want an insane horror thriller
I know right?? So good
I recommend Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami
is there anyone who actually didn’t like reading Murakami?
I didn’t like it in the beginning
It gave me a fake vibe, o forced Atmosphere and details, like the narrator was trying to be someone who is not
And it was quite repetitive and made me loose the trust in the narrator
But at a certain point, the fake mundane that was presented had started to become more and more appealing. Also, some of the descriptions were quite attracting, especially the way he described the women.
which book of his?
ohh I’ve only read Kafka on the shore by him and really hated it
I highly recommend south of the border, west of the sun
There is a movie based on a short story, it is called Drive my car
May I ask why?
need good non-fiction/self-help book recs that’s NEW/2023 released
I hated the incest parts of the book. Most people just seem to brush over it or act like it isn’t a big deal but i really didn’t like it. And then after halfway through, i felt the events didn’t make sense and were all over the place, the story turned boring and the ending was ridiculous. The author tried to make the book all deep and philosophical with hidden meanings and metaphors everywhere but I didn’t buy it. This is all my opinion of course
Never reading another of his books again lol 🥲
Hey
Any recommendations for books to improve art and drawing skills
I think books might bring some extra value that isn't on YouTube tutorials
what art style u want recommendations for? realistic or anime style etc?
The way he describes women is attracting ??💀
Realistic will be better
It'll allow to stylize your art better
only some parts, others are quite meh or annoying
Me
Started reading 1Q84 and left it unread
I didn't like the way he describes women and I feel some sexual stuff he writes doesn't add to the plot
But that's just my opinion and how I felt
A childhood favorite. One of the books that got me reading more ficition. Highly recommended. Thanks for reminding me of it btw, I ought to read it soon again
Have you read more of Paulo Coelho?
Any self help books?
Self help is 95% of this channel, just scroll up a bit or search using the search bar and you'll find endless amounts of the same 6 or so books
Read "The pilgrimage" by Paulo Coehlo it's a good book
The Body Keeps the score By Bessel Van Der Kolk.
It's about the brain, mind, and body in the healing of trauma
Totally agree
Almond by Sohn Won-Pyung. I'm listening to the audiobook version on Hoopla, it's pretty good.
thoughts about The Gambler by Dostoevsky?
anyone here know a great book that talks abt clinical psychology
I know a great book about the history of oncology, with a clinical focus...but not psychology
Haven't read it yet. If you are, please give a quick review of it👍
Do you mean non-fiction like "Thinking, fast and slow" by Kahneman, Daniel or course literature?
Any reviews on "the housekeeper and the professor" ?
Hi, can someone help? I want to read a book similar to millennium ( the girl with dragon tattoo) by Stieg Larson
non-fiction ones
the sexual stuff is the plot 😼
Dude thanks, I found some books I was actually planning to buy and scan lol
hey i am suneh and i am totally neew to reading i started off with "Can't Hurt Me-David Goggins" and i have read 2 cal newport books so far (How to become a straight A student and deep work) what should I read next?
Berserk
What are you interested in? Self help, fiction, the classics?
hello guys i kind of need your help. so.. heres the thing its for a christmas exhange gift. do you think you can recommend a book i should buy my teacher? i kind of picked hhim his a political science teacher who teaches about politics his wishlist is any book you recommend hiwever i haven't read lots of book to be able to rrecommend a good one hahaha ohh and can it not be romance please? thank youu guys for your helpp its a bigg assistance to me
Were you thinking fiction or non-fiction? My first advice would not to buy something that is directly in his field, as he's probably either read or heard of it. If you were thinking non-fiction maybe something auxiliary to political science, such as anthropology, history of a certain period relevant etc.
If, instead, you were thinking fiction, do you know any of his favourite fiction books?
new international version of the holy bible
Politics by aristotle is a good book
ohh tthank youu everyoneee
i dont know actually we are not close but i know he read tuesdays with morrie i saw it on his page once not sure if its fiction or nonfiction though
hahahahhaa he specifically said no bible please hahahahaha sorry was not able to replyy i didn't notice it at first
You should give him crime and punishment by foydor dostoeyvesky
Which book should i read first I'm confused i have 5 options, the book thief, crime and punishment, a little life, to kill a mockingbird, the count of Monte Cristo
To kill a mockingbird is a great classic
don’t read a little life
Do you people know any author who has similar feel to Haruki Murakami
Why
people I know who’ve read it have said it’s terrible and not worth reading
Okay I'll not I'm reading Kafka on the shore by murakmai
The Book Thief could be a great start tbh
thank youu
my first book was to kill a mockingbird, would be a great start
Okay thanks I'll start with that
the book thief is a great book
You could try "When languages die - Harrison, David K.".
It's maybe a bit more niche, but its definitely something that could be a massive hit with a poli-sci teacher.
Tbf its one of the most read/well-known books in the world. A middle-aged (i'm assuming) teacher would most likely either have read it if they wanted to, or not because they didn't want to
Depends. Which one are you most excited about? Are you reading to enjoy or analyse? Are you new to reading, and not in the habit of finishing long books?
Reading to enjoy I'm new to classics
What are you reading guys?
Kafka on the shore by murakmai
Ha!!What ?
It's a novel
Pdf please
You could always vibe check them. Sometimes one book will not speak to your current state of mind, at another point in time that very same book could be your favourite. Just start reading the first page, if you are curious, intrigued, or simply glued to the page. Then you know to keep going. If not, save it for another time and vibe check the next book
That's a really nice tip I'll do with every book and which one feels good I'll read it
Just started reading 'Karolinerna efter Poltava' by Efron, Vera. Its about the contribution made by the Swedish POWs to Russia after the battle of Poltava in 1709. Also re-reading "Remembrance of Things Past" by Proust, Marcel. Speficifally Swann's World, the best reading before bed.
Just use it wisely and not to fuel any possible procrastination 🤣
I know
im currently reading "girl with the dragon tattoo" and I like it
recommend me some books like
Mystery,detective type stuff
The Silent patient ,The girl on the Train
anything horror and psychological with like plot twists?
rn im just reading all of lovecrafts stories
do you have any specific book from lovecraft that you particularly enjoy/are enjoying?
call of cthulhu is a classic
at the mountains of madness is my favorite
i recommend buying his collection books with multiple stories
if you are into cosmic horror
let me know what you think whenever
of course

The prince by Niccolo Machiavelli
Hey everyone I’m curious as to know where to start between Camus, Dostoyevsky and Nietzsche. I’ve read a bit of crime and punishment and it’s quite a gruelling read in the beginning, I have also read the stranger years ago so I don’t remember much, any reccs and tips would be much appreciated
If you read Camus, you ought at the very least to read Sartre as well.
If you read Nietzsche while inexperienced you will misunderstand him (like nearly all content creators do). However you could read him now, take notes and then reread him in 5-10 years and see how you've changed.
Dostoyevsky has a couple of short stories, I've heard good things about "white nights" and "Notes from the underground" is a classic.
Keep in mind that choosing translations can be quite important, especially if you are reading in English as a non-native. E.g. Constance garnet is thrown out the window for me, as I often find the prose not very natural to the language of my mind.
All in all, maybe start with 'White nights', into 'Notes from the Underground'. Then transition to Camus ('Stranger' is popular but not my cup of tea, 'Myth of Sisyphus' is more interesting although that's personal taste.) and Sartre; 'Nausea', to me, is the epitome of existentialist fiction. After reading these Authors I'd interject with Frankl, Vikor E.'s "Man's search for meaning".
Should keep you busy for a while
This helps a ton, cheers
Which translation of nausea should i go for
I was never really able to get into Murakami (maybe my mistake was starting with his memoir, What I Talk About When I Talk About Running), but based on the little that I know about his writing:
- Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell for interwoven/nested storylines
- The Savage Girl by Alex Shakar for weird surrealist contemporary fiction (interestingly written if a bit unpolished)
- The Travelling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arikawa (short and sweet)
What are peoples' favorite books? (And why)
Does anyone have a fiction/non fiction rec for a heart wrenching book?
Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro
Thanks, I'll add it to my tbr
fiction - as long as the lemon trees grow by zoulfa katouh
My favorite books are:
-The house of stairs by William sleator, because it was one of my first mystery books and it's very well written plus the plot isn't easily guessed and It was also my first book in which there were multiple p.o.v's which I absolutely love.
-girl in pieces by Kathleen Glasgow, it destroyed me mentally a bit so it accomplished it's lesson.
-every last word by Tamara Ireland stone it's a very cute romance and I thought the ocd in it was also well portrayed.
- lost boy by Christina Henry, it's a perspective to the Peter pan story I never thought about.
- we were liars, I thought it was a cute book, needless to say I was very shocked when I read one of the last chapters.
-heartstoppers very cute graphic novel
-solitaire it's pretty cool and not so focused on the romance aspect
-suicide notes by Michael Thomas ford is also well written and talking about a hard subject
Thanks, I'll also add it to my tbr
Whichever speaks to you. You can go on amazon and read the first pages for free and in that way compare translations.
Sure I'll read em
Ohhh I started the cat one it's pretty smooth till now
Probably will finish it tomorrow
Proust's famous - In search of lost time. A true masterpiece. The most beautiful, soul touching and memorable prose. I re-read it every 2-3 years in its entirety. Proust has left the deepest impact of any author I've read so far.
sharp objects by gillian flynn

Real intriguing stuff, gl with exams
Have you read him
Yes but not as much as i’d like
Have you read foydor dostoeyvesky
I started reading crime and punishment but i’ve never gotten back to it
Wanna read crime and punishment together
Sure, how would we do that?
Like we can just start reading it at the same time and have a deadline to finish to book and then we can discuss it together
Can we do like x amount of chapters every week and then discuss it?
Yes we can do that
Cool
Which translation of “the brothers karamazov” would you suggest?
i would like to join in that too
The nr 1 way of figuring out, is to go to amazon and to read the first couple of pages of each translation. Its more about what clicks with you and your English of your mind, which is heavily affected by your mothertounge. Ergo, its a personal choice. Second best is split, between reading through this compiled list https://welovetranslations.com/2022/01/10/whats-the-best-translation-of-the-brothers-karamazov/ or watching this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_TXWZRQOTE&t.
Okay you can join
What speed will yall be reading at? If yall are going a bit slower I'd like to join as well.
We haven't decided at what speed we will be reading at but it will be a slow read that way we can live through this book

Hello, I am currently a computer science student and am looking for books or audiobooks for my daily commute to university. The books or audio books should be tech-related or at least something that might help me in general. Do you have any recommendations?
you can listen to how i built this
their is also a good podcast called not overthinking
I used to be a big Murakami fan but I realised it wasn't worth sitting through all the stuff he writes about kids.
Try some different Japanese Magical Realists like Kazuo Ishiguro.
Ruth Ozeki's A Tale For The Time Being also has a magical touch to an otherwise grounded story

I finished reading 'make your bed' by William Mcraven. It's a short read, if you're looking to build some skills such as discipline, humility, brotherhood, you can try it. The author was a Navy seal
What are you interested in? It's not a book but there's this youtuber named Lex Fridman that often invites famous computer scientists and they have hour long discussions about their work and the future of comp sci. If you haven't watched his videos I really reccomend them!
It might not be exactly what you're looking for but it helped me figure out what I'd like to pursue and how to get started: The Craft of Research by Wayne C. Booth!
The first couple chapters talk about how to go about actually figuring out what it is you'd like to work on! Which I feel can apply to anything even outside the realm of research :)
I understood you mighty clear if you asked me :)
ahh thank you for your recommendation!!
I'm delighted to hear that haha

Is that a question
yes
I would recommend this book immensely as it taught me many things in conversations, treating others, treating arguments etc.
This book will work wonders for you if you are trying to level up your social skills and especially in your workplace, school. etc
I suggest that all of you check this book out as it can make your life better in both the short and long run!

i love political philosophy, if you're interested in that i reccomend thomas more's "Utopia" (he was the first true communist lol but its interesting how he draws the argument) and maquiaveli's "The Prince" (its basically a manual for rulling in the renaissance but its so real and so mean at the same time that it scares you but teaches you)
they're both very short and easy to rea
read
does anyone have any valuable book recommendations to me as a 14 year old?
Which genre recs are you looking for?
yeah its good
you read any philosophy other than political? - curious because I’ve not tried political philo
Ahm, yes, mainly existencialism as well but fortunatly in portugal all of us have philosophy in High scholl so o could read more complex texts earlier
But descartes' "the discorse on method" is a very good small starter for understanding his process of figuring the thinking process
Then patos' the analogy of the cavern
Plato's
Anddd a portuguese writer, my fav, wrote a book that doesnt exactly try to solve problems but his reflections are immaculate. Its Fernando Pessoa, he his very well known around the world. The book is "the book of disquiet"
oh that’s interesting that they introduce philosophy in high school. thanks for the recommendations. I’m aware of Fernando’s work - it’s been recommended a few times but its not high on my reading list. I’m also not sure if it will do more harm than good by my reading it haha
romance, stories with morals, value, fiction (similar to the book 3 days of happiness)
Yea I read it like 500000 thousands times
an absolutely remarkable thing by Hank Green
I was looking forward to read it. How is it?😶
Hmm...I'd recommend Anthony Doerr's "All the Light We Cannot See"
lol, i have it since 5 years
It is presented as a discussion between Socrates and some followers which gives the impression a serious discussion will be held. However Socrates's opponents are annoyingly compliant and some of his arguments are really outrageous.
Historically the book has an enormous significance but it doesn't really hold up today in its contents I think
Umhmm
Thanks man
There's Norwegian wood by haruki murakami, it's about life as a student and it's damn hrny
There's also heaven by meiko Kawasaki, it's about a middle schooler with some eye problem and that's being bullied and falls in love w another girl that's bullied, it's a lull twisted
(if my explanations weren't bad enough you obviously should read the official description of the books and read some reviews on goodreads if you're still unsure)
thanks
I wanted to pick it up over the summer but the 220 page introduction kinda killed it for me for a bit

Yes yes
Has anyone read "Make It Stick" by Peter C. Brown? What are your impressions? Did it help you to study more efficiently?
it explains the science behind memory, forgetting and learning and also includes various study techniques and how effective they are for retention of information. it is interspersed with anecdotes (from coaches, teachers) and a lot of empirical evidence (might be dry at times)
it is a great book to understand how to learn to suit your needs but I would say in general, don’t simply stick to the formula. the best study technique is the one you’ll actually use. so balance between what is effective but also what is enjoyable to you
another piece of advice is that having a strategy (what you’ll get from this book) is only part of the journey. afterwards you have to execute and experiment with all these techniques. it might take a while to test and adjust and repeat the process but stick with it. all the best
Thank you!
What an opinion 😄
It's a great book imo
Just like Discourses from Epictetus and Meditations from Marcus Aurelius, but yes, it's a philosophy book. You're supposed to be thinking alot whilst reading and understanding the messages
Throughout history each era has had within it a resounding voice; a figure who embodies the very essence of that age. And when we look back to the vibrancy of Periclean Greece we can say, without doubt, that it is Plato who we hear. His dialogues are among the most precious possessions which have been passed down through the ages! Even now, 2000...
hi! can anyone recommend books on electronics in general? :)
the first book seems endless, but the second one is actually readable lol
Nevertheless, you will actually understand it better (and faster) if you follow some sort of philosophy course that allows you to properly examine particular sections of the different dialogues the book has
The necessity for a course largely hinges on the complexity of the book in question. From my experience, the books I've delved into didn't necessitate formal instruction. also, dismissing a book simply because it presents a challenge is akin to discouraging someone from going to the gym because it's a hard challenge, disregarding the numerous benefits it offers.
What philosophy course have you taken? and why do you recommend it
Tho I wholeheartedly agree on the variability of a book's complexity, given the chance he hasn't read a proper philosophy book, he may end up dropping it. Having a hard time trying to translate the dialogues philosophical ideas, by not understanding the situational context they're in, is a usual problem that could be easily solved by either some guidance from a friend who has read it or a short philosophy course.
The understanding of what we consider a philosophy course may be a little it different, for, where I am from you have both undergrad courses and separate, specific courses aimed to those with no formal instruction in philosophy. I was referring to the latter.
And I'm currently in an Energy Engineering undergrad, not formally studying philosophy (for now...)
Philosophy books teach you how to interpret and comprehend information rationally enough in my opinion.
Don't know how a friend can improve your comprehension
You need to improve your comprehension yourself by mastering the language first of.
Okay but how do you rationalise "lets create an überrace of rulers who are genetically superior to the plebs" or "lets censor art that doesn't praise our morals". We are talking about a whole different age, so I know our morality doesn't map to theirs but when he backs those stances up with idiotic arguments it becomes a bit tedious to read.
I finished it today and there were definitely good and interesting parts in it but also just wacko bullshit parts.
The arguments "muh you just got to think harder while reading" or "you don't have the prerequisite knowledge, you first need to study philosophy" are quite redundant imo.
If someone is interested in manga which consists of depression, suicide and other such themes do read ' Goodnight Punpun '
A great stomach turning and disgust filling manga
I just finished it and have been sad ever since
Why u want others to cry also
Yes
I want them to suffer
Jokes aside I already mentioned what can be present in the manga so it's their responsibility for the trauma
Not really. Foucault's Hermeneutics hardly teaches you how to interpret it; same thing happens with philosophy books that, although reading them are a "must", require you to have some sort of knowledge about the historical baggage that led that author to write the book in question.
Ever heard about the Socratic method/ Elenchus?
I haven't
yes i will not read it Ok
Highly agree with the last line
Especially in Marcus Aurelius' meditations ( sorry if I got the spelling wrong ), he writes the book in the midst of war, famine , when he is joyful, depressed or whenever he feels like it.
So sometimes it doesn't make sense what he is talking about, and understanding the authors situation leads to a better grasp on the text. It reminds of one meditation regarding the rain, that you cannot control nature and how the weather goes; so there is no point in cursing it or blaming it for a bad day. I believe he wrote this during a rainy day, or when he saw someone blame the rain for a bad day, and it just makes more sense.
Does anyone have book recommendations? I was planning to read more this year but I no idea what to read (type of book or type of genre)
fiction or non fiction? do you have any sort of genres in mind at all?
I don’t really know, although I would like to try something new before i mostly read hard science fiction
fantasy? or murder / thriller?
Thriller sounds good I think
The Mindf*ck series by ST Abby
The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides
Rock Paper Scissors by Alice Feeney
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
Thanks
Then you should look into it, it adds a whole new perspective to how one may consider philosophical ideas are created.
There's this commonly shared idea that ancient philosophers were locked in their rooms, writing and rambling with themselves all day, when in reality, many of them believed (Specially Socrates) writing was not an effective mean of communicating knowledge.
Thanks for the recommendation

anyone have any book recs that are similar to mieko kawakami's "all the lovers in the night" or books that are of japanese literature with similar vibes?
Convenience store woman by Sayaka Murata
or Heaven which is also by Mieko Kawakami
books for the SAT
Is that her latest book?
I never heard about it
Short book "One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich" (by Nobel laureate Solzhenitsyn)
-makes you realize how good your life is
-better understanding of ussr history/Stalin repressions
Books for ACT/SAT are waste of money
go online and learn general concepts and then just grind out practice tests and gain pattern recognition
thats about it
how? the novel is a complete tragedy
Meow is everything
alex turner was reading this whilst making tranquility base hotel and casino
great book
<@&942391219206647828>
wow I didn't know that
I recommend "The Joy of Imperfection" by Damon Zahariades . It actually showed me how much I was unfairly criticizing myself and the mistakes I made by trying to achieve perfection. The book emphasizes self-acceptance and embracing imperfection, which helped me become more realistic when planning and making decisions. It's a great read for anyone who struggles with self-criticism and unrealistic expectations.
.
“It’s as if extroverts are seeing “what is” while their introverted peers are asking “what if.”
worth a read for any introverts to learn more about yourself
hello! has anyone read The Count of Monte-Cristo? is it addictive?
3 body problem, how's the book?
I’ve been researching the same lool. If you watched the netflix show I hear you can skip the first book and start at the dark forest. It seems the first book is mostly setup and the 2nd/3rd are where it gets more interesting
Thanks, that helps a lot
it's quite complicated and the writing is stiff but the idea itself is really fascinating. I'd say try but if the writing style doesn't suit you then try the series instead
Anyone read books by Homer?
Homerus?
I thought he (if he exists) only wrote the Illias and Odyssey. According to wikipedia however there are more works attributed to him.
Never read anything in whole though. Read a children's adaptation of both, my father told me bed time stories about the Odyssey and I've watched movies, cartoons, ...
money wasted 😢
Any sci-fi recommendations?
project hail mary
fire book ngl finished it yesterday
has anyone read dune cuz i got the book and my friends say that it isn't that good
ive heard the story is epic but it's too complex and dragged out. so lot of people are not able to finish it
the murderbot diaries
Tuesday with morrie
dune is an amazing book, but it tends to be a little confusing at the beginning, i'd recommend you read the first 100 pages and then start it over, that way you can clear any doubt about who anyone is and what are they doing, in my case it was a very slow read, but very very good! once you get it, everything is way more easy to understand

It's about coping with grief basically
Also I have a ton of pdf books if y'all want some, I use them a lot for my kindle
can somwone tell how to make amazon acount i have kindle but it say it need amazon acount ,i dont understand it
just go on to the amazon website and follow the instructions to create an account
then you can sign in to kindle with the amazon account
O okay thank u

Can anybody suggest me a finance related books ? I'm new to this subject!
I read Malcolm gladwell's outliers to get reading again. His stories are engaging. I loved the ones about the girls basketball team, David and Goliath, charter schools, and hockey.
If you're premed, I recommend Mountains Beyond Mountains. It's about a doctor who wanted to save Haiti from tuberculosis. He grew up poor, was smart as hell (Harvard med school I believe) and driven (if I recall, he flew back and forth from Haiti to Cambridge while in med school to treat people and get his degree). He died a couple years back but inspired many to help eradicate 3rd world diseases.
Tracy kidder wrote mountains beyond mountains. He's a very talented writer. Read a truck full of money if you like tech stories. It's about kayak, the cheap flight company.
Immunity to change by Lisa laskey and Robert Keegan + The allegory of the cave
Wait that's pretty cool I didn't know that. I have a Kindle but I honestly prefer irl books

Do you order books or get them from bookstores
I like going to bookstores. I'm aiming to go like twice a month or something . However not all of the books I want are in the local bookstore so that's when I order.
Ohh I see
Where I live it's so hard to find bookstores which have good novels etc. and I don't like to order everything
Local library or university library are good choices too. If you aren't going to reread it, there's no point in owning it. It also gives you a deadline to finish it bc you can only have it out for so long
My uni is trash af 😭
They have a big ass Library but most of the books are academics related
Read their PDFs
I love reading out of hard copy too but I just can't buy or rent so many of the books I want
Yeah that's what I do now don't have any other choice
any book to learn to get organized to become more productive?:)
I like my kindle for reading nonfiction and real books for reading fiction. Idk why though lol I think physical fiction is just more fun
Poor dad rich dad
Rich dad poor dad*
I thought it would be the opposite lol . I hate the kindle UI tho imma change it soon
anyone here have horror or fantasy or western gunslinger recommendation books? 🙂
the shining by stephen king
i recommend anyone into adult political/fantasy/dystopian fiction to read the red rising series by pierce brown. it is adult fiction and has heavy themes, personally im 16 and i absolutely love it because it challenges me but its also super funny and hard to put down so, def my favourite series of all time as someone who grew up on the hunger games (the first book is kinda similar to the hunger games, just a lot more mature, but the rest arent)
honestly the only books where i love the main character just as much as everyone else
ah i love dystopia! would you recommend it to someone whose english isn't their first language? because i've been trying to read more books in english in an attempt to improve, but i need to know if it's something that's easy to read or not :)
i would say its pretty difficult only because its a lot of technical/machinery terms that even i dont understand i just assume based on context and english is my first language so you could definitely try it but it might be a slow read
understanding the world building can be tricky at first
if you havent read it already, 1984 by George O'rwell is pretty good. I read it for the first time in high school when I first started getting into reading and it wasn't too difficult for me!
then for just a general book recommendation, Freedom is a Constant Struggle by Angela Davis is wonderful.
oh and anything by Ross Gay! he's a wonderful writer.
right! i've looked it up, and the book has been translated into my first language, so i'll add it to my list, thanks :D
I haven't read it yet, but it's on my wish list too!!! I've read Fahrenheit 451 and I'm just finishing reading the Scythe Arc trilogy (which I'm loving)
i want one 😊
please provide me with the pdf of the book u mentioned
thank you :D
awesome!
cell 8, the authors are an ex convict and ex policeman, questions the morality of the death sentence
roslund and hellstrom

that sounds interesting
it is and the editor of the book has done a good job, you're constantly on the edge
@everyone what are the Best books u've ever read in ur fav Genre?
It's hard to name just one book. But for now, I can name 2 books.
Across the universe - Beth Revis
(It's actually a series of 3 books. this is the first book)
I am pilgrim - Terry Hayes
When I read this book translated into Turkish, I read it as a series of 2 books. I don't know if it is a series or a single book in its original language. It's a very good detective book. I liked it.
Many of my favorite books were written by Turkish authors. I don't think it has ever been translated into a foreign language. If I think of another book, I will add it.
Tell me who translated this
I actually took a random pic from google, ill read it in italian
Does the translator matter that much ?
Personally i think that's a greeeaaat book
But u should commit to reading it
What i mean is this is Not a book where u can turn off ur brain and read it like a novel
It will certainly make u think and reflect
Good to know, thanks
He Talks in a way that it feels like He is literally talking to u
U're the Listener in the conversation
Seems cool asf
It iiiiis
But be ready
Dostoevsky's books are like a Black hole
Once u're there never think abt getting out
Im a non fiction reader, i think reading some dostoevskij is going to improve my assets, other than being a good read
Huge fan of hawking and his work, not scared about black holes but interested in them 😉
Dostoevsky's books are gonna Show u the depth of human nature
Same
Science is beautiful
But I would say if u're interested in Psychology u'll definitely like russian literature as a whole
I am actually, definitely going to read it
You should
Tell me if u want any passages to have an idea
Thanks, but i want to read it all by my self
Alrightii
There is a passage in page 24 about maths
It might differ in Italian

Yup crazy and unexpected
That's how this book is
Well i don't know about the Italian translation but translation kinda matters because if it is not a good translation it will ruin the fun of the book
If you wanna read in English then i would say read the Richard prevar and larissa volokonshky one
Alright, thanks
Even the KYRIL ZINOVIEFF & JENNY HUGHES is a pretty good one
Yeah malai
@mighty gate did you read crime and punishment ?
i haven't completed it yet due to exams
but i am already loving it
i am reading it in french and it's quite longer than the english one
but dostoevsky never fails to deliver no matter the language or the translater
After you finish a Dostoevsky book, what does it leave you with?
Personally, a mix of emotions
Confusion, surprise...
But most importantly it makes u think
And reflect
About urself, ur real self, ur real pure desires and wants apart from society's
How weak or Bad we can be without even noticing
The main Characters of his books are mostly People who are brutally honest about their inner and Deepest thoughts
Which makes us relate to them regarding Things we always try to hide, ideas we try to ignore
U might even hold so much respect for Them (despite them being Bad People) because they are brave enough to say Things u never had enough courage to admit.
His books are a lot more than a Story or a good read
Damn
I like that
Maybe a shoud get more in to Dostoevskij
I read White night
And there Is the things that you have listed in the main character
The more I think about it the more I realize the protagonist was exactly everything you described
Thanks man
That was the first one i read

It's my Mother tongue
The language and the arabic literature is indeed interesting
Same, what country are u from?
Same over here 😂
Nooo way hhhhh
Wld lblad hhhh
Fr fr
Anyone wanna read the count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Duma together
I'm on page 51
No it's not
It's basic life advice and telling the concept of logo therapy
I personally think it's good Overall If u haven't read a lot of self developpement books, it's a good way to find ur purpose, if u have then u'll find it pretty basic advice that we hear All the time
And tbh it's a very easy concept that can be explained in just a few lines, a whole book Just for Such an easy to understand idea is Not a really wise choice.
In case any of y'all is interested in japanese concepts as a whole
Simple advice can be the one missing piece we're looking for at times, i like to have stuff like that near me as a reminder
I also have a Google doc filled with some Jim Rohn advice that i keep and read it from time to time to keep myself in check, things like that can be everything we need sometimes, don't you think?
Can u send that doc pls
@craggy pawn @finite pebble

Im collecting goodread friends like Pokemons lmao
by the way i finished white nights by Dostoevski today, what an enjoyable book and even though its about unrequited love, it doesnt make anyone the villain nor the hero, a totally reccomended short read (less than 90 pages like hello thats hella short)
i looooove the beginning of this novel, when it's described the perception of the main character while taking a walk at night... his fear of not recognizing the surroundings anymore.
I'm interested in reading Herman Hesse. Have you read any others? If so, which one would you recommend to read first?
Hiii
Has anyone read "The Great Gatsby" before??
I was recommended this book a while ago and I mostly heard good stuff, but I kinda wanted to know what more people thought bout it before reading it
Well I have only read Demian which is really good and I recommend it, I also have Siddhartha on my reading list so I will read it soon
Yea I just loved how funny and light-hearted was the dialogue between the narrator and Nastenka, totally my favourite part of the book
top tier book
I finished goodbye tsugumi by banana yoshimoto yesterday and I really enjoyed it, it's literally the perfect book for summer, you can feel as if you are in the summer nights at the beach with the main characters, suffering and being happy along with them, totally recommend it
And again, this author specialises on talking about magical realism, love and grief so keep that in mind for the story
I still think y'all should give it a try it has quite a minimalistic writing style and it's a relatively short read (187 pages approx)
I started to read this beauty last night tho, I'm only a few pages in
I've just started reading kitchen by her

Looking for my first real book to pick up. Closest thing so far has been light novels for anime’s so looking for a good page turner
Otherwise I’m open to anything… I need to figure out what I enjoy or don’t enjoy right now
Flow (a.k.a. Az öröm művészete - The art of happiness) by Csíkszentmihályi Mihály
Or "The Almanack of Naval Ravikant" is also pretty good (and free).
Hi, I'm looking for a book to read (not 2day but oneday)
Si-fi book or not
Main theme is humans die or being tortured
Ex: all tomorrow & I have no mouth and I must scream
It may sound basic buy my type of shit, any recommendations even novels or short stories are good and I'd love to check them
Just no happy ending please
Blood meridian😭
Read Brother in the Land or some war type stories Ig
I dont want one with main character/s, just apocalypse, war books are mostly about hope or discovering self something something
Aa okah
Like your life or what ,
I'll let you know once I find it funny, but yes no happy ending or main characters, it's hard to find em
Try slaughterhouse 5
the main character is one guy but it splits him into like many pieces
it feels like 7+ people
Then Read Silent Patient ,It's like psychological thriller and check the novels of Stephen King Ig those are mostly based on horror and such stuff .
Try World War Z ,Its a novel about zombie apocalypse
I have a poem for people who overthink about the future or that :
What if it's my last?
They say I'm young
Stop worrying so much*
You have a whole life ahead of you
So stop acting like tomorrow won't come
But how can they be certain
That today is not my last?
How can they be certain
Tomorrow will even come?
So I'll run through the fields
And do whatever my heart desires
Even if it seems embarrassing
And my cheeks do that thing when they go red.
I'd rather live each day like it's my last
Then waste every day thinking I have a future cast.

What i talk about when i talk about running and sputnik sweetheart recently, norwegian wood last year i think
bought kafka on the shore
im halfway through norwegian wood
nice tho..
ive read 1Q84
i haven't read any other works of his, what would be a good place to start?
I'm also a beginner for Murakami. though Norwegian wood is a good one to start with.
ooh alright thank you
personally 1Q84 was a monster and very different from what i'd been reading previously
hmm sounds fun, okay I'll add it to my reading list.
7 habits of highly effective people (something like that) and how to win friends and influence people.
I liked Norwegian Wood very much but it is pretty divisive, some people love it, some people hate it. Main criticism I heard was that it has a lot of unnecessary sex (whom are imo not unnecessary but rather some kind of reoccurring theme meant to illustrate something about the characters mindset and thats maybe not what those readers expect).
I liked most of them parts though. I'm reading white nights now. Wbu
just finished Atomic Habits, probably going to read East of Eden or Kafka on the Shore next
How was it
Okayish; felt like it could all be told in a way shorter book but it contained a lot of new insights for me
Ohh

I haven't read it yet
